Chapter 1: The Crushing Blow
Izuku Midoriya stood there, under the dazzling sun, before his idol and the Symbol of Peace, All Might. His heart raced with anticipation, and he felt a mixture of excitement and anxiety as he clutched his notebook filled with hero profiles, quirks, and strategies. The very moment he had been waiting for had finally arrived.
"All Might!" he exclaimed, his voice quivering with reverence. "I can't believe I'm meeting you in person!"
The iconic hero, with his towering, muscular frame and the ever-present smile, nodded in acknowledgment. He'd grown accustomed to the enthusiastic reactions of his admirers, but he noticed something different in the eyes of this particular fan. A glimmer of determination that stood out from the rest.
"All Might, sir," Izuku continued, his voice growing more resolute, "I've always wanted to be a hero just like you. I've studied everything about you, your heroic deeds, your unwavering spirit, and your incredible quirk."
The hero's eyebrows raised slightly, intrigued by the young man's passion.
Izuku pressed on, "I know I'm quirkless, but I've been working on strategies and ways to contribute to society without one. I want to prove that even someone like me can be a hero."
For a moment, All Might's smile faltered. He looked down at Izuku with a mixture of sympathy and sorrow. His deep, resonant voice took on a somber tone. "Young man, it's noble to have dreams, but you should know that being a hero without a quirk is nearly impossible. It's a harsh reality, but you must face it."
Izuku felt a crushing weight descend upon his chest. The words, "nearly impossible," echoed in his mind like a relentless drumbeat. All Might's revelation was like a cold shower on a blazing hot day. He had expected rejection, but not like this, not from his greatest hero, the very person who had inspired him to dream.
His eyes welled up with tears, and he fought to hold them back, not wanting to show weakness in front of his idol. He nodded weakly, unable to muster a response, and turned to leave, his heart heavy with despair.
As Izuku walked away from that encounter, he felt as though he was leaving a piece of himself behind. All Might's words, "give up on this dream," echoed in his mind relentlessly, like a cruel mantra. The realization that he would never be a hero, no matter how hard he tried, gnawed at his very soul.
Izuku's footsteps echoed in the empty hallway as he made his way back to his room. Each step felt heavier than the last, like he was trudging through quicksand. The encounter with All Might had shattered his world, and he couldn't help but replay their conversation over and over in his mind.
His thoughts were a jumbled mess. "Give up on this dream." Those words had cut him to the core. But why had All Might said it? Was it really impossible to be a hero without a quirk? Izuku couldn't accept that. He'd read countless hero biographies about quirkless individuals who had made a difference.
Izuku's heart ached with a sense of loss. The dream he had nurtured for as long as he could remember now felt like a distant, unattainable fantasy. What was the point of studying hero profiles, strategizing, and analyzing quirks if he could never use that knowledge to save people?
As Izuku's footsteps echoed in the hallway, he was unaware of a presence approaching from behind. Suddenly, a hand landed on his shoulder, causing him to jump in surprise. It was his childhood friend, Katsuki Bakugo.
"Bakugo...," Izuku muttered, wiping away a stray tear.
Bakugo's expression was a mix of concern and frustration. "What the hell happened in there, Deku? Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?"
Izuku hesitated, unsure if he should reveal the truth about his conversation with All Might. But Bakugo was his closest friend, and he deserved to know. Izuku took a deep breath and recounted the conversation, his voice quivering with emotion.
"Bakugo, All Might... he told me to give up on my dream," Izuku confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. "He said that without a quirk, it's impossible to be a hero."
Bakugo's usually fiery demeanor softened for a moment. He looked at Izuku with a mix of sympathy and frustration. "Damn it, Deku. Don't listen to that crap. All Might doesn't know everything. You're better than this."
Izuku looked up at Bakugo, his eyes filled with gratitude. "Thanks, Kacchan. But I don't know what to do now. My whole world feels like it's falling apart."
Bakugo didn't have all the answers, but he was determined to help his friend. He clapped Izuku on the back, his voice filled with a rare sense of reassurance. "We'll figure it out, Deku. We'll show them all that you can still be a hero in your own way."
As they walked down the empty halls of U.A. High, the weight of All Might's rejection still hung heavy in the air. But for the first time in weeks, Izuku felt a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, he could still find a way to be a hero. And he knew that with Bakugo by his side, anything was possible.
