Chapter 1: It's not Harry Potter without Dursleys in the first chapter

Mr and Mrs Potter, of number 61, Dundas Street, were proud to say that they were perfectly extraordinary, thank you very much. They were the first people you'd expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they would wear and talk about the most nonsensical things.

Mr Potter had been involved in law enforcement, but after a recent midlife crisis, and an altered Sherco motorcycle later, he had abruptly quit. Now, he and his eldest son were supposedly professional sportsmen, but nobody knew what the sport was in which they partook. People often questioned whether it was to do with the three large hoops they had erected in their backyard. He was a scrawny man, shorter than most, and would have passed for normal if it weren't for his peculiar lightning bolt scar and messy black hair. He had bright green eyes that would purposefully look the other way when his children were playing up. Mrs Potter was simply beautiful. She was red headed and her eyes were brown and were sharper than a double edged sword. This came in very useful as she spent so much of her time watching her mischievous children, whom her husband mysteriously never noticed causing trouble. The Potters had three children and asides from their misdemeanours, were in their opinion brilliant.

The Potters lived a simple life, but they also had a secret, and their greatest fear was that somebody would discover it. They didn't think they could bear it if anyone found out about the Dursleys. Mr Dursley was Mr Potters first cousin, but they hadn't met for several years, in fact, Mr Potter pretended he didn't have a cousin, because his cousin and his on and off partner were as unPotterish as it was possible to be. Mr Dursley was in fact the notorious, blue haired, online gaming legend, Ninja. The Potters shuddered to think which neighbours would come visiting if the Dursleys arrived on the street. The Potters knew that the Dursleys had a teenage son, too, but they had never even seen him. This boy was another good reason for keeping the Potters away, they didn't want Lily mixing with a child like that.

When Mr and Mrs Potter woke up on an exciting Saturday, our story starts. Mr and Mrs Potter were celebrating. 24 years of responsibility was coming to a glorious end. Their youngest, and though they would never say this out loud, most exceptional child, was graduating. Mr Potter was almost certain Mrs Potter would be found later tonight bawling her eyes out into a pillow at having an empty nest, so for now, they were enjoying riding the wave of pride and happiness. Of course, it was also very appropriate they enjoy a good Fire Whiskey at 10 o'clock in the morning on a day such as today. Mr and Mrs Potter fondly reminisced over their youngest girls achievements, and they decided to write out a soppy graduation letter. Much to their children's embarrassment, Mr and Mrs Potter always went overboard with praising them, because Mr Potter hadn't received any reaffirmation as a child, so the letter read:

Dear Lily

First, we just want to say how proud we are of you. We never in our wildest dreams knew it was possible to achieve as well as you have. Your work in experimental magic with Frank is incredible and we are in awe of you. We would've never had war to face in our life time had this sort of magic been discovered when we were younger. You have outdone your old man, and will go down as being the most influential Potter. We love you so much, and we hope you will still visit often when you go off to be Miss Famous at your Ministry internship next year. Congratulations on graduating Lils, (well it was never a question for us that you would.) We can't wait to see where the next chapters takes you. You've left a legacy at Hogwarts that will inspire the next generation. While your achievements are awesome, we are most proud of the person you have become. (Don't mind the cheesiness to come, it's all true!) You are kind and true and you look after the lonely ones. Words don't describe how much we love you. We hope you like the gift we got you! The necklace reminds me of a time turner Hermione and I used in our third year. Hermione used it because she was the brightest girl of her age. It is a symbol to us of your intelligence in what you have achieved at Hogwarts. We'll see you later on tomorrow, when you board the Hogwarts Express for your final trip!

Love Mum and Dad (Well you're an adult now maybe you can start calling us Haz and Ginz like Scorpius does, cheeky git)

Lily read and reread her letter. It filled her with joy to think of how proud her parents were of her, and how much they loved her. She had a competitive edge growing up with two older brothers, and being a Potter. Lily had a certain level she felt she needed to perform at with her parents being who they were, and she strived to do her best. She was true to her strengths, and didn't bother trying to be who she wasn't. From a young age she knew she would never be a duelist, and so she honed her skills in her main talent areas, in experimental magic, and Herbology. This is what lead her to come up with some of the most amazing, and ground breaking magic, that changed the Wizarding world.

She looked out over the grounds of Hogwarts, as she reflected on the past seven years spent here, and what her parents had written in her letter. She felt full of pride from what her parents had said, right up until she caught a glimpse of the necklace box in the package that had arrived from her parents. There had been a niggle and frustration playing at her mind for the past few months as she neared the end of her time at Hogwarts. She couldn't help but think, so what? If even in her moment of greatest achievement receiving a special award for services to Wizarding kind, she felt like this, it was going to be a very empty life. She had so many questions and wanted to go back and enjoy living in the moment, instead of always striving for the next thing at Hogwarts.

Looking down at the necklace, she knew she had to do it. This was her last day, her last chance to use the schools experimental magic room with plants used in the green house. She may not get another opportunity like this for a long time. Even though she hadn't finished her research in this area, she had to try. She desperately wanted to go back to where her Hogwarts adventure had started and complete her research in time travel, and maybe even relive a bit of it again. She didn't want to leave Hogwarts just yet, it felt like home to her.

She power walked back to the common room as she didn't want to run to cause anyone alarm, but she desperately wanted to do what she had been pondering for months.

Frank Longbottom sat in his usual chair by the fire place, relaxing with not a care in the world. Not in quite as contemplative of a mood as Lily, thinking about Puddlemere and who was going to be playing in tonights game. Unfortunately, he was cut off from his daydream from a loud, "up", being yelled at him across the room. He looked up and grinned, he saw Lily walking towards him. "Oh how wonderful to know I've been upgraded to the position of broomstick in your life," Lily laughed and replied, "if only you were as obedient as one".

"Obedient hey? That word should only be reserved for Twinky, after she has had a few butter bears and is instructing the kitchen staff," Frank said sharply.

"Oh my deepest apologies, my vocabulary is too vast for you, Lily said sarcastically. "Go back to thinking about how Johnson is going to play tonight, and her carpal tunnel hand."

"Hey I wasn't thinking about quidditch," Frank said, trying to fight the grin coming on.

Lily gave him her knowing look as she raised her eyebrows at him.

"If looks could kill women, seriously. I should start calling you the Basilisk," Frank joked in reply.

"Oi don't joke about that. A girl died," Lily replied sharply.

"Come on Lils, even Myrtle would appreciate my humor, although not as much as your Dad," Frank chuckled.

Lily smacked Frank across the arm, but couldn't help a giggle.

"Ow," Frank winged overreacting, and then started laughing.

"We both know you deserved that. Your mother didn't teach you to have a mouth like that" Lily said abruptly.

"Anyways, to what do I owe the pleasure of being told 'up,' by your highness?" Frank asked with a hasty grin.

Lily's light hearted look changed to one of determination, but was only picked up on by Frank because he knew her so well.

"Don't ask questions Frank come on, or you will talk me out of it," Lily replied bluntly.

"You're hard work you know that Lily Potter, but you have peeked my curiosity," Frank exclaimed.

"You know me Frank, as peaceful as a dove, and as shrewd as a snake," she said with a wink.

Frank smirked and said, "you know your wink that is actually a blink that looks like you've something in there, it never gets old Lils. I'm going to miss our banter next year. Well mostly mine, and your reactions."

The experimental magic building was modern, and looked very much like a research laboratory. To the far side of the room were three rows of plants, set up at stations for investigation. This transitioned to three row of potions, set up in a similar manner, with high tech computers and microscopes at each station. The next three rows were the divination, fate and time rows, and contained all sorts of white globes, mugs, different types of sand and all sorts of old books with different prophecies written down in them. The closest three rows, contained an array of new muggle technology that was being magically modified, from Teslas to iPhones, and everything else in between.

"Frank, I want to have one last look into the Tempus perennial before we finish in the experimental magic block."

"Lily, I don't think you should be going near that with a ten foot poll," Frank replied brusquely.

"It's already been done though Frank, it's not like its new magic. There used to be time turners in existence. So really, I'm just recreating, I'm not inventing, so the normal due diligence doesn't apply here. There is also a counter spell that will work to bring me back," Lily said with as much confidence as she could muster.

Frank begrudgingly agreed that she was some what right, and dropped his guard thinking about how they had never messed up an experiment before.

Lily and frank made their way to the far end of the room, picked up the perineal, and carried it to the divination section with a fast walk.

"Ok Frank, so this perennial would have been planted here seven years ago, when this building was created. So the spell I'm going to use, after I turn it into a port key, should take me back seven years, back to when we started school. Then, once I'm there I can use the stem cell acceleration device to push the plant back to its original age, then it should port key me back here, with the counter spell. It's been done before in here. We've written notes on objects, sent them back in time, and found them and sent them forward in time, and they have reappeared on the right date for us. The only difference, is the portkey and travelling with a person part," Lily explained.

"Well it makes sense Lils, I just think you should leave it to someone else who maybe, I don't know, is at the end of their life, and nothing to lose in trialling this. You still have so much life left to live, and I don't want something to go wrong for you," Frank replied slowly.

"Oh, don't be a pessimist Frank, it will be fine but I'm flattered you would miss me if I wasn't here. I'd miss you too," Lily said smiling, as she gave him a hug. "See you soon OK, don't worry."

Lily performed the spell Tempus perineal, and felt the familiar force of the port key pulling her. Everything went black. She reappeared in a forest she didn't recognise. A tremor ran down her spine. Immediately she knew something wasn't right. She wasn't standing in the brand new experimental magic building block, she was in the middle of nowhere. She looked down at the baby plant, and realised her mistake. It hadn't been planted when the building was created, it had been moved. She had no idea how old the plant could be, or what year this was. She pulled out her phone to see that it had a notification, it said no matches found. She opened the app, and saw the picture of Wesley Dursley who her and her friends had catfished only days ago. How she had laughed and laughed with her friends about this at the time. She couldn't even find it in herself to grin at this point. The page refreshed, and said no-one in this area. A tear slid down her cheek and landed on the phone. She had gone back so far that the muggle research for the stem cell acceleration device hadn't been performed. There was no way she could get back for years, and by then too much would have happened for her to return. She had just lost everything, and had no idea where she was.
