Chapter One

X-x-x

Unneeded.

Replacement.

These words she had known were coming. She knew she wasn't like the powerful Miko before her. But she was herself. She sacrificed a lot to stay and correct the mistakes of the Shikon no Tama.

It was her fault it shattered. It was her fault people died.

It was all her fault.

So why is it she was standing over her body as her soul left hers, bloody jewel having been ripped from her hands, and in the hands of the one she swore to love, even if he could never love her in return. As long as she could be by his side...that had been enough of her.

But where did that kind of love get her?

Dead.

Betrayed.

Her heart hurt at those words. Her blue eyes, dimming as she looked at the couple who were alive and smiling at one another, the jewel turning black at his feet...but neither noticed as they walked away leaving a body...her body by the well that led to where her family once was.

The family she wasn't there for when they passed. She had been too busy in the past. Kagome Higurashi regretted that. Maybe she could finally see them after a year of mourning them.

Though, Kagome felt she wasn't going to go to Heaven like them. She had made too many people suffer from her actions.

She closed her eyes once more, before a bright light engulfed her sending her hurling into a seat, tears still falling from her cheeks as she looked at four people sitting at a table, as the once black Shikon No Tama, rolled across the table leaving a small trail of blood behind, situating itself right in front of Kagome who blinked her eyes at them, eyes void of emotion.

"Well, this isn't something that normally happens." A woman muttered, making Kagome glance up from the table, blinking again as she took in the form of a woman that had kind eyes and pink hair

Looking around with dull eyes she could see three people across from her, and besides her was what looked like a Japanese man in a plain white shirt and dark slacks. She turned her attention back to the woman who was watching her with concern before Kagome's eyes went to the jewel that sat in front of her, still soiled with her own blood.

There was total silence and Kagome wasn't going to be the first one to talk, she was still in a bit of shock, and at the moment she had no want to try to make conversation. Kagome knew she was dead, there was no way she could have survived him...

"...you weren't meant to be here..." The woman muttered as she gently picked the Shikon no Tama up, handing it over to a young-looking kid with gold eyes and hair. She said nothing as her eyes followed the movement.

"Priestess..." the younger male spoke, causing her to look straight into his eyes, and could see the sadness in them. Kagome wondered why he would be sad on her behalf.

"You weren't supposed to show here...the jewel brought you to us asking for you to have a second chance at life..." The young male spoke, his voice calm and soft as he talked to her. Kagome felt her heart ache at that.

"Why won't it let me die?" Kagome broke out, her voice raw and full of emotion as everyone in the room heard her speak. The room was silent as the tears started to flow from Kagome again.

"Didn't I suffer enough? Didn't I give enough?" Kagome was about to start begging. She wanted to be with her family, "Can't I die in peace and see my family again..." Her voice broke as she looked down at the table, her tears leaving wet spots on the wood.

"I'm tired...I just want to rest..." She finally whispered out, and she could feel the tension in the room from her words but what she spoke, was the truth. She was so tired. She just wanted to rest for one in her life. She was only eighteen and she was done with life.

"Kagome Higurashi, Guardian of the Shikon No Tama. High Priestess of the Soren Shrine. You were brought here by the Priestess and Creator of the Shikon No Tama, Midoriko. She wants you to enjoy life again. She wants you to have a life without the burden of the jewel..." The young man paused looking at Kagome who brought her eyes up when he said her full name.

"Midoriko brought you here now that the jewel is no more. That your soul has nowhere to go since you can now not reincarnate because of the Priestess Kikyo being brought back to life along with all others who died in Naraku's reign." Kagome took a deep breath in at that. So he didn't just wish for Kikyo back. That was a small relief to her...only just...

"But why..." Kagome whispered, "I am ready to move on..." She really was. To go see her family again. To beg forgiveness from them...

The woman spoke next, "Because you deserve it. Because you need it too...to heal before you move on."

Kagome paused at this. She didn't think she deserved it...

"We are offering someone else a chance to go to a world because we need to transfer some of the magic there, but I think you would do well in this world along with him." The old man with a long beard spoke next, giving her a sad look as he motioned to the man who was sitting in silence watching everything that was happening.

"I just want the pain to stop..." Kagome said, her heart hurting. She was tired of being hurt by people. She trusted the wrong person and look where she ended up. She had once wanted to be happy, now she just wants to numb it all.

She could see the looks she was getting from everyone, before there was soft light surrounding her making her feel a big at peace as her body curled in on itself, "You will find you happiness and we will help as much as we can...but will you try one more adventure..." Kagome looked at the woman with pink hair and could only close her eyes in defeat. She knew she would have to agree one way or another...but if she did this maybe she could get over her past sins.

"Fine..." It was spoken softly, almost so no one could hear it but she could tell it was as the woman gave a bright smile at her, clapping her hands together.

Kagome didn't know what she was getting herself into, but hoped she didn't have to have her hands be covered in blood like she did in the feudal era. She could hope that she could find some peace in this life.
