Chapter 12: Training with Brock and Facing a New Rival – The Challenge at AJ's Fake Gym

After his hard-fought victory over Misty at the Cerulean City Gym, Ash, Brock, and their Pokémon took some well-deserved rest and relaxation. However, Ash was eager to continue his journey to become a Pokémon Master, and he knew that he needed to strengthen his team even further.

Ash and Brock decided to embark on a rigorous training regimen in the rugged terrain surrounding Cerulean City. They pushed themselves and their Pokémon to their limits, honing their skills and learning new techniques.

Ivysaur and Pidgeotto, who had both evolved during the battle against Misty, were at the forefront of this training. Ash and Brock focused on improving their teamwork and developing powerful combination moves.

One sunny day, as they were deep in their training, a new challenge emerged. A trainer named AJ approached them with a confident grin. AJ was known for his strict training methods and his Fake Gym, where he tested the skills of aspiring trainers.

AJ issued a challenge to Ash. "I've heard about your recent victories, Ash Ketchum. How about a 2 vs. 2 battle at my Fake Gym?"

Ash never turned down a challenge. "You're on, AJ!"

The Fake Gym was a rocky battleground with a makeshift arena. The battle was about to begin, and Ash knew he needed to put his training to the test.

AJ released his first Pokémon, a powerful Sandshrew. Ash responded by sending out Ivysaur, his newly evolved Grass/Poison-type.

The battle commenced:

1. *Sandshrew vs. Ivysaur*

- AJ's Sandshrew started with a rapid flurry of Fury Swipes, its claws striking with precision.

- Ivysaur, however, used its newly acquired ability, Leech Seed, to create a patch of seeds that hindered Sandshrew's movement.

- As Sandshrew struggled to free itself from the Leech Seed vines, Ivysaur used Vine Whip to strike its opponent from a distance.

- The combination of Leech Seed and Vine Whip wore Sandshrew down, and it eventually fainted.

AJ was impressed by Ivysaur's strategy but remained confident. He sent out his second Pokémon, a determined and speedy Doduo.

2. *Doduo vs. Ivysaur*

- Doduo was quick and agile, using its Double Team to create illusions, making it difficult for Ivysaur to target the real Doduo.

- Ivysaur countered by using Solar Beam, charging energy as it braced itself against the Doduo's onslaught.

- When Doduo finally made its move, Ivysaur unleashed Solar Beam, creating a blinding beam of energy that struck Doduo directly.

- The powerful Solar Beam was too much for Doduo to withstand, and it fainted, leaving Ash victorious in the first part of the battle.

AJ was impressed by Ash's strategy and the power of Ivysaur's Solar Beam. He acknowledged Ash's skills as a trainer but reminded him that the battle wasn't over yet.

Before the next part of the battle could begin, a new challenger arrived on the scene – a trainer named Ryder. He was confident and looking for a battle.

Ryder grinned at Ash. "I've heard about your recent battles, Ash. Mind if I join in for a 2 vs. 2 battle?"

Ash, always eager for a challenge, accepted Ryder's proposal. The stage was set for a thrilling double battle, with AJ and Ryder teaming up against Ash.

With Ryder joining the battle alongside AJ, it was set to become an intense 2 vs. 2 showdown. Ash and Brock, well-prepared from their training, stood ready to face this new challenge.

Ryder sent out his first Pokémon, an electrifying Magnemite, while AJ released his second Pokémon, a determined Sandshrew. It was a battle of Steel-types and Ground-types versus Ash's Grass/Poison-type Ivysaur and Flying-type Pidgeotto.

The battle began:

1. Ivysaur and Pidgeotto vs. Magnemite and Sandshrew*

- Magnemite, hovering with magnetic grace, initiated the battle with a Thunder Shock aimed at Ivysaur.

- Pidgeotto reacted swiftly, swooping in to intercept the attack with a Gust, redirecting the electrical energy away from Ivysaur.

- Sandshrew, seeing an opportunity, rolled into a swift Rollout attack, targeting Ivysaur.

- Ivysaur used Vine Whip to anchor itself and create a defensive barrier, deflecting Sandshrew's Rollout with ease.

- Ash saw an opening. "Ivysaur, use Solar Beam, and Pidgeotto, follow up with Aerial Ace!"

A remarkable synergy unfolded. Ivysaur began charging Solar Beam while Pidgeotto circled overhead, ready to execute its Aerial Ace.

- As Solar Beam reached its peak, Ivysaur released the powerful energy beam, targeting Magnemite.

- At the same moment, Pidgeotto dove down with astonishing speed, executing an Aerial Ace that hit Sandshrew with precision.

The combination attack struck true:

- Magnemite was hit by the Solar Beam and couldn't withstand the powerful Grass-type move. It fainted.

- Sandshrew was struck by Pidgeotto's Aerial Ace, its Rollout disrupted, and it also fainted.

The crowd watched in amazement as Ash and Brock's teamwork prevailed in the first part of the battle.

Ryder and AJ shared a nod, acknowledging Ash's skill and strategy. But the battle wasn't over yet, and Ryder was ready to show his own prowess as a trainer.

Ryder sent out his next Pokémon, a fierce Growlithe, while AJ released a determined Rattata.

2. Ivysaur and Pidgeotto vs. Growlithe and Rattata*

- Growlithe, a Fire-type, began with a powerful Flamethrower, targeting Ivysaur.

- Ivysaur used its Solar Beam once more, intercepting the Flamethrower with a beam of pure energy, creating a dramatic clash of Fire and Grass types.

- Rattata seized the opportunity, launching a swift Quick Attack at Pidgeotto.

- Pidgeotto evaded the Quick Attack with a graceful aerial maneuver, narrowly dodging the fast-paced move.

Ash knew that the battle was heating up, both literally and figuratively.

- "Ivysaur, finish charging your Solar Beam!"

- "Pidgeotto, use Whirlwind to create a powerful gust of wind!"

Ivysaur continued gathering energy for its Solar Beam as Pidgeotto executed a Whirlwind, generating a fierce windstorm on the battlefield.

- Growlithe's Flamethrower was disrupted by the gust of wind, extinguishing the flames harmlessly.

- Rattata, caught in the whirlwind, struggled to maintain its position.

With the charging complete:

- Ivysaur unleashed its Solar Beam, targeting Growlithe with a powerful blast of energy.

- Pidgeotto used the wind to its advantage, diving in with a devastating Aerial Ace aimed at Rattata.

The combination attack struck true once again:

- Growlithe couldn't withstand the Solar Beam's power and fainted.

- Rattata was hit by Pidgeotto's Aerial Ace and also fainted.

Ash and Brock had emerged victorious in the 2 vs. 2 battle against Ryder and AJ. The crowd applauded their impressive teamwork and strategy.

Ryder, despite the loss, wore a determined expression. "You're quite the trainer, Ash. I'll remember this battle."

As the battle concluded, Ash couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. His journey was filled with new challenges, new friends, and new rivals, and he knew that he was one step closer to achieving his dream of becoming a Pokémon Master.
