"When do you think Adrien will text me, Tikki?" I ask, as I spoon oatmeal into my mouth. "Marinette, for a very patient person, your certainly very impatient about Adrien's surprise!" I smile and blush. "I know. But now that I know who's under the black mask, I just want to spend all my time with Adrien." Tikki fumbles with her little hands. "Weren't you doing that before?" "I didn't know it was Adrien under the mask. But I'm glad it was. He's the most patient, loving, friend a girl could ask for."
Its not like I didn't have guy friends in the past, but now there all away at college, and as my time as Ladybug, I found they weren't as nice as I thought they were. Adrien, (and Cat, for that matter) never changed, always sweet and cheerful, and always could make me smile on a bad day with a hug and a loving pun…
Ding! I jump in surprise as my phone lights up and I send my cereal spoon flying. Tikki and I are quiet for a moment, looking at each other, then burst into laughter. My phone starts ringing, and I have to wipe tears of laughter from my eyes as I answer Adrien's call. "You'll never guess what just happened, love," I tell him, still giggling. "Um, you won fashion of the year designer and your moving to New York," Adrien teases. "No, even better. I was talking to Tikki about you, and then you message me and I got surprised, therefore throwing my cereal spoon across the room." "Oh, that is good. So that's why my ears were burning. Now, I've made you wait long enough, so I will tell the surprise….." "Coffee?" I blurt, clapping a hand over my mouth. Adrien laughs. "Yes, we are getting coffee, but we're going to the Louvre. More details to come." "Are you coming here or am I meeting you there?" "There's a Starbucks near the prymaid, so I'll meet you there. I'll be the suit." "Okay, I'll see you soon."
I transform in a small patch of sunlight and tug on a pink sweater. Then Tikki and I are off, and I wonder what Adrien could be planning.
"Don't you look pretty in pink, Bugaboo," Cat says with a smile and a hug. Of course, with compliments like that I blush as pink as my mother's pink peonies. "Don't you have a sliver tongue," I grin at him, flicking his gold bell. I take a closer look at it. "Did you polish your bell this morning? It looks particular shiny." Cat winks. "M'lady, have you heard me even though this colorful and shiny, means its extremely dangerous?" I cup my chin, pretending to think. "I may have heard that, but the only time your ever dangerous is when your attacking a toy mouse or my yarn basket."
Cat and I get in line for coffee, and find a small table. The sky is painted a special blue as the painter found a new shade of blue and wanted to share it with the world. "M'lady, you have a glow to you," Cat whispers, and I nod, finding his hand. "Cat, I have a secret for you," I whisper, and lean over to whisper in his ear. "Oh?" "I love you," I whisper, and his ear does a little flap, making me snort with laughter. Cat leans back, his eyes warm. "I don't know, Bugaboo, coffee does peculiar things to you."
When we finish, we get in line for the Louvre. "Is it nice to actually see the Louvre. and not worry about a akuma?" I ask,as we enter the first gallery. "Yes, but if your trying to figure out the surprise, that's not it, Bugaboo." We talk our time, arms linked and stroll through the galleries. One particular painting catches my eye. A sailboat sits upon the water, in full sail with the sun rising or sinking behind it. "I would love to sail away on a boat like that," I say wistfully, staring longingly at the painting. "As long as I was with you, Kitty." Cat coughs, a smile on his face. "You do know, if did have a boat like that, you couldn't escape my puns?" "Correction: I'll wear my aqua suit, but I could handle a few puns." "Only a few?" Cat backs up against the wall, checking to make sure we're alone. Then he plants a kiss on my lips. "I'd just through you overboard. I mean, there are catfish, are there not?" "Keep this up, and you won't have to wait for the boat for the puns. Ah, here we are."
I look at him curiously as he opens a small door that says "Studio" and leads me inside. A couple of easels are set up in the middle of the room, plus some sort of stand. "Surprise! We're going to paint each other! I always see you painting in your sketchbook, and I thought we could paint each other." "Oh, love. This is perfect. But since you've done more modeling then me, you go first."
I'm in heaven as I study Cat's figure, as I have him stand in a pose that looks thoughtful, but Cat's eyes are shifted to look at me, and you can see the mischievous look in his eyes.
Lunch is provided, sandwiches, lemonade and scones, and we spend a perfect afternoon painting each other. We have to leave them here so they can dry, but they'll call us when they're ready.
Its late afternoon when we get back to the apartment, but the kitchen is still dark. We begin to prepare supper for Mama and Papa, and Cat is quiet as he tears up lettuce for salad. "What are you thinking?" I ask, as I fill the pot with water for mac and cheese. "Mother and I used to do what we did today. Sure, it wasn't as fancy, but we always had fun. Mother would pose in the most ridiculous fashions, but even then she always looked beautiful." He smiles at me. "But even if Mother is gone, I can make new memories, right here, with you."
I think back to when I caught sight of Cat staring at my family photo. Maybe soon I'll have a surprise of my own, but I want my parents to be in on it first.
An hour later, Cat is pouring the milk into glasses as I pull a pan of garlic bread out of the oven as Mama and Papa walk through the door. Papa looks bushed, but happy. Mama looks at the table, then us. "Oh, Tom, they made us supper!" Papa's mustache twitches and his eyes twinkle. "Correction, they made me dinner, now what are the rest of you going to eat?" we laugh, and Cat hugs Mama and Papa.
Cat is a chatterbox during supper about the day, and even though I know he has me to talk to, he finally gets to talk about his day to people who care about him and love him, just like real parents should.
We visit some more after supper, me with my knitting, and Cat falls asleep. I stroke his hair gently and Mama smiles at me fondly. We let Cat nap for about a half-hour, and when he wakes, its time for him to go.
"Thanks for the perfect day," I hug him tight. "Good night, Cat." He takes my hand, and kisses it, bowing low. Then with a wink and grin, he's gone. I shut the door with a happy sigh, and turn to find my parents staring at me.
"Cat's so good for you, honey. I'm so glad your dating." Dating? Is that what were doing? I don't remember making any official, but we can discuss it later. "Yeah, I'm not alone anymore." I stop and realize how true really are. But a yawn escapes, and Papa smiles. "Why don't you head up to bed, sweetie? Since you and Cat made a wonderful meal, Mama and I will take care of dishes tonight." I nod, trudging slowly upstairs.
I boot up my computer, hoping to listen to some music for awhile, but I type in the search engine "Deserted Islands" for sale.
Each one is more beautiful then the last, and I stare at the palm trees, a small lump in my throat. Yes, Paris holds special memories, but holds many sad ones too. If could make a wish right now, it would be sailing on the sailboat with Cat, no destination in mind.
I plug in my headphones as I lay down in bed, dreaming of laying out in the sand, on a sandy beach. Of course, I couldn't lay out for to long, or I would look more like a lobster then a cute ladybug.
I wonder what Adrien's thoughts on possibly leaving Paris are? It will have to be a question of when we next see each other, so in the morning….
Meanwhile, I'm going to drift off now…..
