Chapter 42

The End of the Battle

Levi took down the last Titan and landed on the ground. He ran towards Kara. She was laying on the ground, unmoving. It worried him. He didn't want to loose his daughter like he lost his best friend.

"Kara." Levi said, rolling her over. She moaned in pain. Levi sighed in relief that Kara was alright, but hurt. Kara's eyes open and saw the Titan getting away with the Beast Titan.

"Father. They are getting away." Kara said, grabbing his shirt.

"Can you stand." Levi said. Kara nodded. Levi helped her up and she had to bite her lip to stop from screaming in pain as she wrapped her arm around her stomach. "Wrap your arm around me. Your in no shape to use the ODM gear." Kara knew there was no arguing with him. Kara wrapped her arms around Levi's neck. Levi shot his hooks forward. Kara felt pain rip through her and blackness takes her as they neared the wall. Levi landing the roof, jolted her awake.

"Captain. Kara!" Eren said as Levi let his daughter go. Kara knelt on the roof, holding onto her side. Bertholdt laid on the roof with his limbs missing. Kara looked around and didn't see her other friends except Eren and a burned body laying behind him.

"I just used the last of my gas. Quick, give me your gear so I can chase him." Levi said as he held out his hand to Eren.

"Right!" Eren said, starting to unhook his gear.

"Hurry!" Levi said. The burnt body behind Eren coughed. Kara's eyes widen as Eren gasps and turns to the body.

"Armin." Eren said.

"Wait that's Armin?" Kara asked. Eren nodded as he crawled over to the body. A gasp comes at the words and Kara saw Mikasa now standing on the roof with them as Eren goes over Armin's body.

"Yeah! Hell yeah! Armin's still breathing! I hear him! Keep going. Don't give up! You can make it!" Eren said.

"That's Armin?" Mikasa said. Mikasa was in tears as Kara looked at the burnt body in shock. Eren turns to look at Levi.

"Captain! Get the syringe!" Eren said. Kara watched as Levi reached into his pocket to get the syringe. Eren grabbed Bertholdt and held him. "Turn Armin into a Titan, and then we can have him eat Bertholdt!" Levi looked at Eren. "Hurry up and inject him!" Kara watched her dad.

"Father?" Kara asked. Levi pulled out the box.

"Right." Levi said. Mikasa gasped and pulled out a smoke gun. She shot a red signal in the air. Levi started handing the box to Eren. A grunt comes and Kara turned. Her eyes widen. Floch was climbing onto the roof with Erwin on his back.

"Levi... Captain. I finally found you. It's the Commander. He's hurt! His stomach is gouged, and his insides are all torn to shreds. The blood just won't stop. I though that injection might be able to help him, but... what do you think?" Floch said. Kara grabbed her head. Armin was laying dead and now Erwin was here and he was alive but barely hanging in there. Eren looked at Levi. Levi pulled the box back. Kara stared at her father in shock.

"Captain Levi?" Eren asked. Levi takes Erwin from Floch and lays him on the roof. Kara was knealing next to Armin. Levi put his hand over Erwin's mouth.

"It's faint, but he's breathing." Levi said. Kara looked towards Erwin. "Erwin. You're alive." Levi looked down. It was a hard decision when he had two comrads laying dead on the roof. Kara stood, holding her side as Levi looked at the box. "You know what has to happen. Erwin gets the shot." Eren growls and stands to his full height.

"Eren. Don't." Kara said. Eren shot her a glare that made her flinch.

"You can't. You told me you'd use it on Armin." Eren said. Tears were almost streaming down his face. Levi looked at Eren.

"I'm going to revive the person who can save humanity. Floch gasps. Mikasa pulls out a sword. Kara grabs her handle. She knew she was in no shape to defend Levi. Levi eyed Mikasa. Mikasa was in shock. Kara gripped her handle tight. Levi was looking between Mikasa and Eren. Kara was behind Eren, but Levi knew she couldn't defend him or help in her shape and Floch seemed shaken by everything. "You two. Do you have even the faintest damn clue what you're doing? It's Erwin. The Commander of the Scouts." Kara looked at Erwin. She was surprised he was still alive. She could tell the injuries were bad. "And you're telling me to watch him die? There's no time for this. Just get out of my way and take Kara to safety so she doesn't get eaten." Levi goes to move, but Eren grabs the box. "Eren. Check your emotions."

"Sorry, Captain. Can't do that. Tell me. Why didn't you give Armin the injection right away?" Eren said.

"I was thinking about Erwin. Considering the chance that he might be alive." Levi said.

"But you couldn't have known that Floch would carry the Commander here. There's no way you would've seen that coming." Eren said.

"You aren't wrong, Eren. But the fact remains, he's here now. So, I'll revive him." Levi said. Eren gasps and grabs the box. Levi punches Eren in the face. Mikasa runs towards Levi. Kara jumped in front of Levi and gasps as Mikasa's fist collides with her stomach and shoves her away. Levi turned to Kara's cry in pain as she hits the roof before Mikasa tackles him to the roof with sword pressed to his neck. Kara was in and out of consiousness from the pain. She rolled onto her stomach gasping for air. She didn't hear the conversations or the others arriving.

"Pipsqueak!" Jean's voice pulled her from her consiousness. She felt hands on her and saw Hange, who had a bandage on one of her eyes, holding Mikasa as Levi pulled himself to his feet. Kara saw Sasha also badly hurt on Conny's back. Jean was pulling her to her feet. Kara wrapped her arms around Jean and burried her face in his chest. "You alright?"

"No. My ribs are broken and Mikasa punched them and made the pain worse." Kara whispered. Mikasa fell limp noodle in Hange's arms. Kara heard Eren yelling at her father, but Kara didn't want to listen. She was trying to focus on breathing. Levi saw Kara in Jean's arms and was safe. Levi got the needle ready and stood.

"Everyone get out of here right now. I don't want Erwin to eat one of you instead of Bertholdt." Levi shouted. Jean wrapped an arm around Kara. "Jean. Make sure she gets the care she needs and get her out of here."

"Yes, Captain." Jean said, wrapping an arm around Kara and latched onto a roof and got out of there as Hange and Floch got Eren and Mikasa out. Kara sat on the roof as Jean wrapped bandages around her, wrapping her riibs. Kara felt her heart breaking. Of all the soldiers that came. Her friends, Floch, Hange, and Levi were the only survivors and now they were giving the Colossal to Erwin. Eren and Mikasa sat off to the side. Jean finished and Kara pulled her shirt down. Jean pulled her against him.

"Can this just end and we can enjoy a life with no Titans." Kara whispered. Jean pressed a kiss to her forehead. He was relieved they had both survived. Hooks landed on the roof and Kara's eyes widened as Levi landed on the roof with Erwin with him. "Father?"

"It's my choice. Armin will get the Colossal." Levi said. Everyone shared looks. Jean helped her stand as they watched as the Titan Armin started crawling across the roof towards Bertholdt who was waking up. The Titan grabs Berholdt. Kara clung to Jean's arm as Bertholdt starts screaming as the Titan starts putting him towards its mouth. Bertholdt sees the friends watching in horror.

"Guys, please! Help me!" Bertholdt screams. Kara turned her head into Jean's shoulder as the Titan puts Bertholdt into its mouth as he screams. "Annie! Reiner!" The screaming stops as the Titan bites into Berholt. Kara felt tears in her eyes. Kara had lost another friend and the Commander that helped Levi save her.

'I promise Erwin. I will help my father kill the Beast Titan.' Kara thought as she heard Hange confirm Erwin was gone. Armin's Titan fell to the ground. Kara gasped as steam came off its body. Jean wrapped his arm around her and Levi and Hange watched as their soldiers used ODM gear to get to Armin. Armin was pulling himself from the Titan body. Eren and Mikasa helped him and Kara cried in relief that he was healed. Kara felt exhauten finally take over and she fell against Jean, letting blackness take her fully.
