Soft humming filled his ears as his hands moved rapidly. In a wide hallway with a cramped bench, he sat cross-legged with his back smushed up against the cold wall. His large green sweater kept most of the chill that filled the hallway out, now and then he would catch himself pulling the sleeves back down to cover his hands. Everyone time someone walked past him he would try and cross his legs tighter in hopes that he would make himself smaller to the human eye, unsuccessful with that he was. His mind was focused on his handheld game as his eyes subconsciously tracked the bodies of the people who walked the hall.
Once the hallway was clear he quickly stood up and took his bookbag off the floor and threw it over his shoulder. He moved through the hallway with his head down and his feet moving quickly. At the end of the hallway were the employee's bathrooms which he entered while locking the door behind him. Moving swiftly he checked each stall in the bathroom to make sure the bathroom was empty. Making his way over to the counter he sat his bag down to pull out his silver laptop that was covered in a variety of different green stickers that didn't quite make any sense. Logging into the laptop he tapped his fingers onto the side of the laptop as he waited for all the windows to reopen.
When the windows he needed were open he clicked on the window with all the security feed of the cameras that surrounded the place. Before today he had carefully picked out clips from each camera that he could eventually loop on the camera for whatever security guard watching. Once that was done he slid his bag back onto his shoulder and made his way outside the bathroom with his laptop sitting on his arm. At the end of the hallway, there were double doors that were locked by a keycard that he just happened to have inside his pants pocket. Only a handful of people had access to the room and his father happened to be one of them. With one last look over his shoulder, he scanned the keycard and slipped into the room.
Honestly, he hadn't the faintest idea of what he was expecting to see, and this sure wasn't it. The entire room was an artificial terrarium filled with eggs and creatures he had never seen before. They were colorful and some were barely big enough to reach his knees. Most had no legs as they hooped around on their little bottoms in what most would call cuteness. At first, none of the creatures seemed to notice him until he tried to move further into the room only to trip over something and land on his stomach. Rolling to his back he was quickly surrounded by the tiny creatures as they looked towards him in curiosity. As they deemed him safe head to toe he was quickly covered in fluffiness.
He let out giggles as he pulled off the blob on his head that was trying to eat his circle-rimmed glasses. As he was setting the blob down he suddenly remembered that he had held his laptop in his arms as he fell. Sitting up made the creatures that were on his chest roll off and onto his lap. He muttered a quick apology as he helped one of the blobs sit back upright while looking around for his fallen laptop. I spotted it sitting on the ground with a tiny green slim creature with what looked to be a pacifier inside its mouth. The green slim made its way over to the laptop as it tried to get on top of the keyboard.
As he rushed to grab the green slim off of the laptop the other creatures held onto his legs so he ended up falling back onto his knees and elbows while holding the green slim in the air. His own emerald eyes stared into the beady of the green slime. The slime around the yellow pacifier extended and pushed his crooked glasses back in place. Unsure of what to do he placed the slime back on the ground and sat himself down on the ground crossed-legged. His hands gripped his ankles as he stared at the slime before he lifted his hand and petted the slime on the head. The slime seemed to smile as it pushed its head further into his palm with a noise that sounded like a happy squeal.
The slime jumped onto his lap as it rubbed its head onto his stomach almost like a cat would. He wrapped his arms around the slime and hugged the slime as he continued to pat the slime's head. Their cuddle session didn't continue for long as the doors were slammed open and several people stormed through. Startled, he turned around only to see his father staring down at him as he shook his head while holding onto his nose bridge with a sigh. His father gestured for the people behind him to go away as he walked further into the room.
The slime in his lap let out a squeak as it stared at his father with big eyes. His father pushed up his glasses before reaching down and picking the slime up from his lap and into his arms. He caressed the slime as he let out a breath."It shouldn't have been you, If only you had let go of your curiosity your sister would have found a replacement instead." He shook his head as he turned to look down at him on the floor."But you'll have to do it, it's not like we can do much about it now."
It was always like this, his sister over him. He thought that it would all change after the divorce seeing as his father would be spending more time with him. But of course, the man would grow to miss his sister who was with their mother. He clenched his fist as he glared at the grass on the ground and avoided looking at his father. A whine caught his attention as he looked up at the slime that was in his father's arms. The slime was whining as it stared down at him while trying to jump out of his father's arm. When the slime succeeded in jumping he quickly caught it as he held the slime close while it cuddled up to him.
"Cute isn't she?" With wide eyes, he turned around to see a man with lilac hair that he knew as Val staring down at him with a smile. Val was holding a phone with a forest green case that had the letters DK in white printed in the middle of it. Val hummed as he glanced at the screen of the phone."She's a Bubbmon, no wonder she chose you."
He blinked up at Val in confusion."What are you talking about and what is all of this?" He watched as Val held out the phone to him as his father glared at Val. Once he took the phone Val laughed at his father."What it's his now there's no reason for the glare."
Ignoring them he flipped the phone over so he could see the screen. On the screen was a picture of the slime in his lap and a page full of information about it. After reading it he looked down at the slime."So you are something called a Digimon?" The slime squeaked up at him as she jumped up and down in excitement. He smiles and pats the head of the green Digimon."Well, I'm Masumi but most call me Milo."
"Mmmmm Mii Miii!" He let out a laugh as she struggled to get the sound of his name out correctly. Poking the cheek of the slime he let out a hum that mimicked the sound that the slime made."I think I'm gonna call you Bubba." Bubba let out a squeal as she rolled around on the grass before hopping up and making her way onto his shoulder to curl up against his cheek. He poked Bubba's cheek again with a laugh."I'm glad you like it, I've never named anything besides robots before."
The sound of dramatic sniffles drew Masumi's attention as he turned his head to see Val whipping invisible tears from his eyes with a handkerchief. Shaking his head with a breath Masumi stood as he held onto Bubba when he turned to face his father and Val who were both staring at him with very different looks. While Val looked like he was ready to pull out a random party popper his father just stared at him with that tired look in his eyes that he always had when looking at Masumi. His father took a deep breath as he pushed up his glasses and typed something on the table that he carried."We should quickly get you fitted before the others get here."
And with that, his father walked out the room leaving them behind to watch his back as he disappeared down the hall and out of their sight. Val turned to him just as he had finished rolling his eyes at the dramatic exit of his long-time friend and coworker. Throwing on his usual smile Val took ahold of Masumi's elbow as he walked him out of the room." Ignore your old man, instead let's focus on getting you ready to meet the others so we can go over everything."
Masumi glanced up at Val from the corner of his eye as most of his attention was on Bubba who was currently watching the blank halls with interest."Others what others?" Val paused for a second no doubt confused before his face lit up in understanding."I'm just all over the place today, My apologies it's just been such a busy week preparing for this moment. Ehem anyway, I won't say too much now but there are others your age that have been chosen by other Digimons and you'll be working together with them for the foreseeable future."
At the mention of other people Masumi quickly pulled his fabric mask out of his pants pocket and placed it snuggly on his face. At the sight of the mask on his face, Bubba's little beady eyes widened in surprise causing Masumi to huff out a quiet chuckle. When they finally reached where they were meant to go his father was outside of the door talking on the phone quietly. At the sight of them approaching, he finished his phone call as his eyes met Val's and they both nodded in understanding about whatever was said.
As the door was opened the first place Masumi's eyes went was to giant screens that made up an entire wall. The next thing or person that caught his interest was someone that he wasn't entirely surprised to see standing there. As her eyes met him she quickly spoke in surprise."Milo, you too?"
Making his way over to her his eyes went to the two Digimon that sat on a table watching him and Bubba with interested eyes. He turned to look at Yuki with nodded as he tilted his head slightly towards the two Digimon." Are they both yours?"
As he suspected, Yuki blinked up at him with those ice-blue eyes of her as she nodded."Yes, that is correct." Now that he thinks about it he should have expected her to have a part in whatever this is considering how close their families are. The Kurogane and Mori family have been intertwined since the beginning of time, it was said that one cannot exist without the other. He and Yuki were practically raised together and likewise with his sister, which is why he was slightly irritated at the fact that she had kept this a secret from him.
"Here, take this." His father suddenly appeared next to him with a matching green watch to the phone. Taking the watch, Masumi fastened it on and watched it sync with the phone. Putting his arm down he turned to look at everyone that was just standing around waiting for something to happen. The door opened and they all turned to look and see who it was. His eyes widened in surprise and confusion as he saw his sister walk through with someone following her."Mami?"
