Chapter Fifteen
Sitting up in bed with Matt as the two of them prepared to talk to her brother for the first time since they got married, Alex took a breath as she looked at the screen that was showing her brother's name; his caller ID since he was the one calling her this morning. Yet, she couldn't find it in her to answer the call. Why? She had no idea. She just felt so nervous when it came to answering this call due to the fact that she didn't know how he would react, react to the fact that his baby sister got married without any of their family being there; something that her husband could clearly see based on the fact that she was still staring at her phone rather than answering her brother's call. "Hey, you okay Alex?" Taking a breath as she put her hand on top of his, Alex turned her head and looked up at her husband. "What if he hates me?" Matt was confused as he heard Alex say that, unsure of what she was trying to say. "What are you talking about Alex? Last time I checked, Marc loved you more than anybody; well, maybe except for your handsome husband." Alex smiled as she heard Matt say that, while also leaning up and going to kiss the man of her dreams softly. Her new husband.
After all, what he just told her most certainly is the truth; he loves her more than anything and will always love her more than anything. "Well, maybe until we have a daughter." Matt thought about it, before nodding. "Yeah." Staring at her husband, Alex slapped his chest as that was not the right answer; but Matt already knew that, because he was just joking. And he continued to joke with her when he put his hands up to surrender. "Hey, calm down. I surrender and was just joking." Alex looked at her husband as he said that. "Yeah, you were just joking when we both know that's also going to be the truth." Matt smirked as he heard Alex say that, before bending down and kissing the woman he loves. "Don't you know it. Still, I will always love you more due to the fact that you're the mother of our children." Alex smiled as she heard Matt say that, as that was something that she couldn't wait to be. She couldn't wait to be the mother of his children. The woman who gives birth to his children and makes him a father. "God, I can't wait until you make me a father." Alex agreed with Matt, smiling as she kissed her dreamy husband again. "You're going to be such a great dad."
Matt took a breath, while also sighing. "I can only hope to be a good father." Looking at her husband, Alex grabbed his hand as she held him close. "Hey, look into my eyes." Matt agreed with his wife. "You are going to be a great father. I've already seen you with Violet before and you are amazing with her. Please don't doubt your abilities to be a great father." Matt agreed with Alex as she told him that, smiling due to the fact that he just loves it when she makes him feel better. And now, that's precisely how he feels. He feels much better when it comes to his ability to be a father, something he showed his beautiful wife by kissing her forehead softly. "Thanks." Alex agreed with Matt, smiling as she was more than happy to do that. "No problem baby. Now listen, we need to call my brother back due to the fact that we missed his call. Either that, or we should expect him to call back momentarily." Matt agreed with Alex, before watching as she grabbed her phone once more. After which, she proceeded to hit her brother's name so that she could call him back; hoping that his wife Abby is there with him due to the fact that it may calm him down, but it turned out she wasn't.
And that's due to the fact that he's currently on his way home from the office gym. "So, you went ahead and got married without us you little bitch!" Matt was about to say something to defend his wife, when Alex put her hand up to keep the peace between her husband and brother. "You say a word, I get dressed." And let's just say that Marc was horrified when he heard his sister say that. "OK. Didn't need to know that you were naked, and in bed with your HUSBAND!" Alex laughed. "I meant out of…you know what, you don't get to say a word considering you spent the first week as a husband naked in bed with Abby!" Marc laughed. "Shut up, I was trying to make mom and dad grandparents before you got pregnant by that idiot you now call your husband." Matt was offended when he heard that. "HEY!" Alex was about to give her husband a bit of shame, when she realized that was fair. "Don't make me go all boss on you and give you a project that keeps you in Missouri rather than in Illinois!" Turning her head, Alex looked at her husband as that wasn't fair. "Do you want to be a father next year?" Matt gulped as he heard Alex say that, well aware that was a possibility.
And now, Alex knew that her husband was scared. "Then don't do that again, because my brother is a great dad to that little girl of his. If you want to learn what fatherhood is like, then you need to stay on my good side." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, well aware that was the case; while also acknowledging (in his mind) the fact that her brother probably doesn't want to hear them argue about pregnancy and having kids due to the fact that it's about their sex life. "Ok. So, I'm just going to ignore and try and forget everything that you guys just mentioned about your sex life out of my mind, as that's the last thing that I want to be talking about when we're supposed to be talking about the fact that you guys are married! Sorry about the early morning call by the way. Now, I need to know when and whether I need to keep a secret until Christmas." Alex was confused as she heard her brother say that. "What are you…" That's when it clicked in her mind, he thinks she's pregnant already. "Oh, no Marc. Not yet." Turning his head, Matt looked at his wife. "Right?" Alex agreed with Matt. "No, I'm not pregnant yet. I would've told you if I was babe." Matt agreed with Alex.
After all, he knows that Alex would've told him that she was pregnant; because that would've led to them getting together much sooner, and him leaving Hallie when he got a chance to much sooner. But right now, it's not time to think about her when he instead needs to concentrate on his wife and new brother-in-law/his project manager for the midwestern United States, but more as his brother-in-law, rather than his boss. "So, do mom and dad know yet? Are you going to tell them over the phone or in person?" Alex sighed. "We actually need to figure that out. I just hope dad isn't mad. We just wanted to get married as I didn't want to wait. We want to be together for the rest of our lives, and I wasn't interested in waiting any longer." Marc agreed with his sister as she said that, well aware of how long she's waited to be the official woman in Matt's life. "I know that you've waited a long time to be the official woman in Matt's life, so I am very happy that you're finally his wife. I promise that me and Abby are both very happy for you." Matt smiled as he heard Marc say that, glad that he was happy for them. "I appreciate that Marc, thank you." Marc agreed with his boss.
He then went ahead and (tried) to go for something. "You know, you could show me a bit of appreciation by giving me a…" Alex then went to stop her brother in his tracks. "Marc don't push it! I'm still mad at you over the fact that you didn't choose me to be Sacha's godmother!" Marc gulped, agreeing with his sister as she said that; well aware that she wasn't the happiest when he chose both of his in-laws to be his daughter's godparents. "Yeah, I might as well shut up right now." And that was when Alex heard the dogs bark. "Yeah, you guys need to shut up too. We're on the phone." Turning his head, Matt smiled as he looked at Cassie and Theo. After which, he patted the bed to invite them both to join him on the bed; but only Theo decided to join him on the bed, which meant that he wanted to get some guy time. Running over to the bed after getting off his dog bed, Theo smiled as he jumped up and then made his way over to Matt. After which, he curled up into a ball next to him just like he always did when he was on the bed with him. "Hi buddy." Putting his hand on top of his dog's head, Matt smiled as he scratched it and just held both his wife and little pup close to him.
However, what Matt was doing was also confusing Marc. "Ok. What are you doing there. What's with the buddy and all the noises?" Matt smiled. "Oh, that's just Theo our Jack Russell Terrier; he just joined us on our bed." Marc agreed with Matt as he said that, as that made sense. "Right, it's early. You guys must still be in bed. God, I hope that I didn't wake you guys up?" Matt shook his head, as he didn't no. "No, Alex was up early this morning. She already took a swim today." And let's just say that really confused Marc. "Ok. It's December now. How can you take a swim in December?" Alex smirked as Marc asked her that question, before deciding to make her brother jealous. "We have an indoor pool here at our place in Mokena." Marc was shocked. "Well, looks like I know where I'm coming in the future if Sacha ever wants to take a swim in the winter! God, I get to go for a swim for free rather than have to pay for a membership at the YMCA!" Matt agreed with his brother-in-law as he said that. "See, there are other ways to get benefits other than a raise. Marc, I am going to save you some money. By the way, why do you have a membership at the YMCA when we have a gym?"
Marc sighed as Matt asked him a very good question. "Abby likes to go there for some classes. They have Zumba and Aerobics classes that you don't offer at the staff gym, and I have tried to talk her out of it a lot of times. But she also has friends that go there, and they don't work at Casey. She also says that she's going to take Sacha there in the new year for mommy-daughter things." Alex agreed with her brother as he said that, as that made a lot of sense. "Hey, don't question what your wife wants to do. I think it's a good idea for her to go to the YMCA while you're at work, or she can come here in the new year when Matt's back at the office." Marc was confused once more when he heard his sister say that, so he decided to ask something for clarification. "Ok. I thought you were going to be back at the office on Monday?" Matt laughed. "First of all, I just got married yesterday; so, I was never going to be at the office tomorrow. And for what it's worth, my witness was my best friend who was there paying a parking ticket. So, don't be offended when you hear that I asked my best friend to be a witness rather than a relative." Marc agreed with his brother-in-law, as that made a lot of sense.
I mean, why ask a relative when his friend is already there to be a witness. "Hey, meant that you got married faster. I just hope you know Alex that…" Alex agreed with her brother, already well aware of what he was going to say. "Oh, that's already in the works. We just wanted to get married so that we were official, not that we weren't already thinking of ourselves as married as that was how we plan on acting." Matt agreed with Alex as she said that, as that was how they planned on acting whether they were legally married with the certificate or not; he planned on treating her as his wife the moment they came out in public. "And I promise Marc, I am going to treat your sister with the love and respect that she deserves." Marc agreed with Matt as he said that, as he was glad that he said that. "Good, because I don't care if you're my boss. You hurt my sister, I hurt you!" Matt gulped, while also agreeing with Marc as he said that; well aware that he was going to defend his sister regardless of the fact that he was his boss, not that he would expect anything less. "I wouldn't expect anything less." Marc agreed with Matt. "No retribution when it comes to my sister. I'm her brother!"
Alex agreed with her brother as he said that, as she can guarantee that he will not face any retribution if he ever confronts her husband when it comes to her. "Believe me Marc, that's something that you don't need to worry about when it comes to you being the overprotective big brother that you are." Marc was then about to object to being defined as overprotective, before shutting up due to the fact that he knew that's exactly what he is. He's overprotective and will protect his sister without worrying about the retribution that may come as a result of his actions. "Ok. You got me there. But you're my baby sister and I will always want to protect you." Matt agreed with Marc as he said that, having the same sentiment when it comes to his (older) sister. "I feel the same way about my sister. I always warned her husband Jim that I don't care if she's my older sister. I'm her brother, and I will protect her at all costs. She doesn't have a dad to do that, so I am going to do that. And so far, he hasn't pissed me off; so, I haven't had to do anything to hurt him." Marc laughed as he heard Matt say that. "Okay, sure." Matt was shocked. "I haven't!" Marc agreed with his boss once more, not buying it.
After all, people do talk at the company and it's no secret whatsoever that Matt doesn't approve of his sister's choices when it comes to her husband. "Matt, I hate to say this; but it's no secret that you do not approve of your sister's choices when it comes to husbands. You just put up with him due to the fact that he's also the father of your niece Violet." Matt agreed with Marc, as he knew that was the truth. "Yeah, you're right." Turning her head, Alex was shocked that her husband just said that. "Sorry, but did you really just say that to my brother?" Matt agreed with Alex, smiling at the woman he loves. "What? I can admit when he's right. By the way, Marc. I need to talk to you about something quick. I already spoke to Alex about this, but do you by any chance know who my mother is?" Marc was a bit confused. "No, Alex has never said anything." Matt sighed as he heard Marc say that, before deciding to rip off the band-aid. "My mother is Nancy Q. Casey." Marc was shocked. "Wait, your mother is the husband-murdering crazy wacko who murdered her husband due to the fact that he was allegedly abusing his son." Taking a breath, Alex rubbed her husband's back. "You okay?"
Matt sighed as he looked at the woman he loves, as he hates that he has to deal with this sometimes. "I'm going to go make breakfast. Do you want anything?" Alex agreed with her husband, before wrapping her arms around his and kissing it. "Can you make me eggs?" Matt agreed with Alex as she asked him that, before wrapping his arm around her and kissing her softly. "See you soon." Alex agreed with Matt, while also watching him get up so that he can walk away to go make them breakfast. At the same time, she took a breath and waited for him to leave their room prior to saying anything to her brother due to the fact that this is a sensitive topic.
Now that Matt was gone, Alex took a breath and sighed as she laid down in bed some more; she laid down so that she could be comfortable as she spoke to her brother about this topic. "Ok. You need to take it easy and relax when it comes to that." Marc laughed. "Alex, are you kidding me? You married the son of a murderer! Wait, do you really believe the lie that his mother told him?" Alex sighed. "Marc, shut up." Marc then did just that, as he knew not to mess with his sister when she spoke to him in that tone. That snippy tone that always put him in line. "Marc, this has to stay in between us; I never told anybody in our family about this, because I never hoped to have to tell anybody." Marc agreed with his sister, just listening. "Marc, it's true. He was abused when he was a kid." Marc was shocked as he heard his sister say that. "Wait, so all the rumors. All the suggestions that she did it due to the fact that he was abusing Matt…" Alex agreed. "Marc, I can't go into details as it's not my place. But I can say this. When Matt told me, I just knew it in my heart that it was true. There was way too many emotions for it not to be true. And he still has a hard time dealing with it."
Marc agreed with his sister as she said that, clearly able to tell that this is a sensitive topic. "Marc, he promised me that he would never do it if we had children. He actually said that to me, and I was just shocked that he even thought he had to promise me that when he's such a great guy; I mean, he wouldn't hurt a fly." Marc laughed, as that was the truth. "God, he even fires people in the best way. I rarely hear him yell. And when he fires people, he gives them time to get back on their feet and finish their projects." Alex agreed with Marc as he said that. "Yeah, that's because he wants to be the opposite of what his father is. Apparently, his father was ruthless while he was the head of the company and fired people without a care in the world. The company had no heart when he died, and now it does because of my husband. He's been through a lot, and I would appreciate it if you didn't think that it was fake. You saying allegedly just broke his heart. He still deals with it sometimes and is scared to become his father." Marc understood why Matt would think that way. "I hope you know that I never meant to say stuff like that. I should've known." Alex couldn't help but agree with him.
I mean, why would someone lie about being abused? And that's something that she was going to tell Marc. "Marc why would someone lie about being abused. Really, answer me that question." Marc agreed with his sister, already well aware that no human being could ever truly lie about being abused; nor would they want to lie about being abused. "Yeah, that makes no sense. Why would someone lie about being abused as a kid. I just hate that I even thought otherwise. Can you please make sure that Matt knows how truly sorry I am?" Alex agreed with her brother as he said that. "You can tell him yourself in the future. I just hate what you did as it may cause problems now Marc. You really screwed up and I am not happy over what you did. I hope you take time to think about what you've done and just how it might've screwed up my marriage for a bit." Marc gulped, well aware that was a possibility. "Matt would never take it out on you. He loves you too much." Alex agreed with her brother, well aware that her husband loves her too much to take his anger towards her brother out on her. "I know. And I just hope that this doesn't screw you over with him Marc."
Marc agreed with his sister when she said that, as that most certainly is exactly how he feels. He hopes that he isn't screwed over by this. "I'm going to write a letter of resignation just in case. If you think that's what I should do, then let me know. I want to make this easy for Matt after the pain I just caused him." Alex laughed. "I am sure that I can talk him out of making you resign, but we'll see. If I can't, I'll let you know when you need to send it in. But listen, I have other things to do now. Most importantly, I need to go make my husband feel better. How you have a good day Marc." Marc agreed with his sister, before hanging up the call that he was having with her. Meanwhile, Alex took a breath as she thought about what just happened between her brother and her husband.
Alex's POV: As I just sit here in bed for a moment, I took a breath due to the fact that I absolutely hate what just happened. I mean, how can my brother be so stupid? How can he truly believe that Matt would ever lie when it comes to a topic which is so serious? Abuse is a serious matter, as is assault and parental abuse. It's also something that can easily stay in the shadows due to the fact that it always happens in the confines of a family home and rarely comes out into the public. And when it does get out, the children are normally trained to try and lie about it to make the accusations go away; or else, they can easily face the consequences should this get out to the authorities. And for my brother to not know what when he's a father just baffles my mind. I mean, how could he not believe Matt when he spoke that way? When he spoke in a way that almost brought me to tears. I know what my brother did was wrong, and I can only hope that Matt knows that I know that; and that I spoke to him and made sure that it wouldn't happen again. Hell, maybe I should even talk to my parents once they know about me and Matt; then they can talk to Marc about it. How he's a real idiot.
However, that may mean that I need to tell them that I got married. I just hope that they're okay with the fact that they weren't there. You know what, I am just going to do it. I'm going to call my parents and tell them that we're married. And that's precisely why I just grabbed my phone and went to call my mom. I just hope that she's already awake. And actually, that's precisely what she was; because she soon answered the phone the moment I called her. "Wow, that was a fast pickup mom." My mother Linda agreed with me when I said that, well aware that she answered fast. "I'm currently in the car, me and your dad are on our way to your aunt Melinda's place for her birthday; remember?" I then realized that, forgetting. "Right, in Seattle." My dad John agreed with me. "Yeah, so that's where we'll be for a few days. So, why did you call us this morning baby girl?" Taking a breath, I sighed. "Uhm, you remember how I told you guys that I was dating my boss in secret?" My dad agreed. "He's lucky that he's a great guy. Now, what is it?" I sighed when he asked me that. "Well, we're not dating anymore." My dad got mad. "That bastard! First he makes you his mistress, then he…" I then ripped of the band-aid and just told my parents. "Made me his wife." My parents were both shocked when I told them we were married.
Especially my father. "You're married!" I agreed with them. "I know. But he just got lied to by his ex-fiancé. She was pretending to be pregnant. We got together, and we got married yesterday at the courthouse. I just told Marc when he called us." My dad was shocked. "Wow, that's a lot of news." I agreed with my dad as he said that, well aware that was the case. "Listen, I know that it was wrong for you guys not to be there. But we were just out, and it happened. I know, it was stupid and…" My mom then stopped me. "Alexandra. Please, take a breath sweetheart and just take it easy. We both know that you love Matt, and that's all that matters at the end of the day. The fact that the two of you love each other and are now committed to each other." My dad concurred, agreeing with my mom. "Well, unless he breaks your heart. Then, he'll have to talk to me about that." I laughed. "Marc said the same thing when I told him and Abby. By the way, we can talk about Christmas at another time. We need to figure things out. I just wanted to tell you ahead of the Christmas Party when we're going to be attending as husband and wife." My dad agreed with me when I said that, quite happy.
After all, he probably loves the fact that we're finally going public with our relationship. "I'm not going to lie and say that I'm not happy that you guys are finally going public, when I'm thrilled that you guys are finally going public. It's about damn time that my baby girl gets to be on her husband's arm. I just hope you know that you owe me now!" I was confused when I heard my dad say that. "What are you talking about?" My mom laughed. "Sweetheart, you're our only daughter. You really think that we're not going to be okay with us giving you the wedding of your dreams." My dad concurred with my mother. "And I am going to want to walk you down the aisle." I agreed with my dad as he said that. "Ok. Just know that it may be a while, and I am not making you pay a cent for the wedding." My dad laughed. "Sweetheart, it's okay. I've been saving for a long time!" I sighed. "Dad, my husband is wealthy. I am not making you pay for a damn thing when it comes to our wedding. Do you understand?" My dad finally agreed with me, understanding my point of view when it came to why he wasn't going to be paying for our wedding; and it's due to the fact that my husband is wealthy.
Plus, it made more sense for Matt to pay for the wedding rather than make my parents pay for it. "We can use the savings to help pay for your wedding dress then, because I want to help a bit. Or we can do something else. Just let us know what you want us to do with that money. I promise though, we're both thrilled with the fact that you're finally married. Took you long enough!" I laughed as I heard my dad say that. "Only took my husband's ex to fake a pregnancy. So maybe no asking about babies for a while." My mom was shocked as she heard me say that. "Wait, she faked a pregnancy?" I agreed with my mom, as that's precisely what Matt's ex Hallie did. "Yep. She faked a pregnancy to keep Matt around longer. She's that type of woman." My parents were both surprised as they heard me say that. "Well, I'm sure that we can figure things out. Just let your husband know that we approve of him, and that we know about his story. I went to school with his mother, and we kept in touch when she went on trial. I hate that she was even found guilty." My mom was surprised. "Wait, you think she should've been found innocent!" I sighed, as I wasn't going to be hearing about this from them.
I already dealt with it with Marc, and I am not dealing with it again. "Ok. I am not dealing with this again. I told you guys and that's all that matters. You guys know that me and Matt are married, and I hope that you guys are okay with that." My dad agreed with me when I said that. "Of course, we are sweetheart, and we hope that you guys have a happy life together. Now, are you already trying for kids?" I laughed, before sighing. "I think we might wait." My mom was surprised. "Really, I mean…you are getting to your mid-thirties." I sighed, well aware that was the case. "I know mom, I know. But first, we need to deal with something else." Both of my parents were confused as I said that, as they didn't understand. "And what might that be?" I sighed. "We need to come out as a couple first. I'm still not his official partner in the eyes of the public. They don't know I exist, and I need to come out." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, while walking in with her normal morning tea. "Yeah, we can talk about that if you want." Turning her head, smiling as I looked up at my handsome, boxer-clad husband. "Hey, what are you doing up here?" Matt smiled. "I made you some tea that you like."
I agreed with Matt as he said that, smiling because of how great of a husband he already is. "God, you're already such a great husband." Matt smiled at me as I said that, while also walking over to me in our bed. "Just a warning, I'm on the phone with my parents." Matt agreed with me, while also setting my tea down on my side table. "Hi Mr. and Ms. Jacobs." My dad laughed. "Oh please, call us John and Linda; we're family now son." Matt agreed with my dad as he said that. "Of course, John. So, I can only assume that means that Alex told you?" Linda agreed. "Congratulations to the both of you Matt. We will have to have dinner in the future, we can host if you want." Matt laughed. "Believe me, you'll want to come here. I can finally give you guys a look into your daughter's new life. A life where I promise to protect her to the best of my apologies." John agreed with his son-in-law as he said that, as he had no doubts in his mind that he would do just that. "I have no doubt in my mind that you'll do just that. Now, we're off to Arizona to see my sister."
Turning my head, I smiled at my amazing husband before telling him why my parents were headed to Arizona to see my dad's sister Melinda. "It's her birthday." Matt nodded, agreeing with me before grabbing my hand. "Why didn't you tell me? We could go and fly your parents down too." I shook my head, as I didn't want to go. "No, it's okay. I would rather take it easy and just relax for now. We just got married." My mom agreed with me. "Plus, she's coming down with early onset Alzheimer's." I was shocked when I heard my mom say that. "Wow." My dad agreed. "Doctor says not too many visitors." I agreed with my dad as he said that. "Well, at least send her my best if she remembers me." My dad agreed. "I will. Congratulations again. Love you sweetheart." I agreed with my dad, before taking a breath and hanging up. Meanwhile, Matt looked at me as he grabbed my hand. "You okay with that news you just got?" Nodding, I agreed as I was okay. "Yeah, I am." Getting close to me, Matt smiled as he leaned in and kissed me softly. "Let me know if that changes, okay?" I agreed with Matt. "Breakfast?" Matt nodded as he kissed me again. "I'll be back." I smiled and agreed.
After which, I put my hand on his face and kissed him again. "I love you." Matt agreed with me, before getting up and walking away to go make us breakfast. Meanwhile, I grabbed my tea and started to drink it this morning as a way to take it easy and relax.
Matt's POV:
As I walked away to head back downstairs and make us breakfast, I couldn't help but think about what I just learned about Alex's family. How her aunt has Alzheimer's. I can only imagine what her parents are going to be dealing with when they go to Arizona, as it's just tragic. And I can't help but wonder whether Alex truly is okay. I just also hope that she talks to me if she needs to, because the last thing I want is for her to hold things in when I can (maybe) help her deal with things. After all, that's my jobs as her husband and I plan on taking that job very seriously. I want to help her as much as I can, which means that she needs to talk to me. But for now, I'm just going to take it easy as I go make us some eggs for breakfast. Maybe even some egg sandwiches as I know that she loves those.
