Part 1 ~ Chapter 7

A little while after the tribe left to attack the nest, Hiccup was practicing how to fly in the arena as he waited for Astrid to bring the others. He wobbled and flailed slightly to try and not lose balance.

"Whoa..gods this would be so much easier if Luna was here to teach me.." He muttered as he got his balance back.

As he was practicing, Astrid and the other's entered the ring. Astrid smiled and crossed her arms as she watched Hiccup lap around the arena, but the others were very wary of the Night Fury.
"How are you so calm right now Astrid? W-we just witnessed Hiccup die! Not to mention we're in the arena with a Night Fury!" Fishlegs said terrified.

Astrid looked at the Ingerman, her smile not faltering. "Because Hiccup's not dead. He's here with us."

"Like a ghost?" Tuffnut asked as he looked around the arena for Hiccup.

"What? No! Hiccup didn't die!" Astrid said with her hands on her hips.

"You sure? 'Cause he was gone when that smoke cleared. He was totally eaten by one of those dragons." Ruffnut said, pretty sure in her theory.

Astrid gave them all a deadpan expression. "Are you guys serious? Do you see any blood in here? Any severed limbs or torn up clothes? No?" She asked as she gestured around them.

"So what if there's no physical evidence of him dying? He obviously was eaten whole. I say good riddance." Snotlout said as he crossed his arms.

Hiccup whined as his earplates folded against his head. 'He really hates me that much..?'

Astrid facepalmed and ran her hand down her face. "Okay. Seems like you guys aren't getting what I'm trying to tell you guys at all. You guys remember when the Night Fury that's flying around us right now was cowering in the corner? Do you guys really think a Night Fury of all dragons would cower away like that?"

Hiccup screeched at her, feeling very offended. Astrid smirked at him.

"It's the truth!" She said as she stuck her tongue out at him playfully.

Hiccup huffed and landed beside her, giving her a halfhearted glare before he looked at the others.

Fishlegs took a closer look at the dragon in front of them and his eyes widened slightly as he realized that Astrid was right. The Night Fury's eyes gave it away.

Snotlout didn't seem to have the same revelation that Fishlegs did as he went to grab his hammer. Astrid noticed this and grabbed her axe. Hiccup shrank down with a whine as his earplates fell flat against his head as his best friend and his cousin glared at each other.

Fishlegs then got between them with his hands held out. "Stop!"

Astrid and Snotlout looked at the Ingerman shocked as they lowered their weapons.

Fishlegs then looked at Snotlout and the twins. "Astrid's right! Look at the Night Fury closer. See anything familiar?"

Snotlout rolled his eyes as he looked closer at the dragon then his eyes widened in shock. "No way.."

The twins eyes widened as well as it sunk in, then smirks formed on their lips. "Cool.."

Snotlout slowly walked towards Hiccup, but the young dragon backed away from him, whimpering. He laughed slightly as he set his hands on his hips. "Well I'll be damned. That really is Hiccup."

"Told you!" Astrid said as she set down her axe.

Snotlout looked back at her. "How is this even possible?"

"Let's just say it's a failsafe for the species to not die out. That's all you need to know. Now, enough chit chat. We've got a battle to get to." Astrid said, then she unlocked all the cages.

As the tribe was setting up to attack the Nest, Stoick pulled aside his council to go over a plan of attack. He grabbed a stick that was nearby and drew out the plan.

"When we crack the mountain open, all hell will break loose."

"In me undies. Good thing I brought extras." Gobber joked, trying to lighten the mood a bit.

"No matter how this ends, it ends today." Stoick continued, ignoring Gobber's comment.

The council nodded and Stoick went to the mountain and gave the signal. The catapults were released and the boulders broke through the side of the mountain. Stoick gave another signal and a burning ball of straw was sent through the hole that was made, showing hundreds of dragons crowded together in the cavern.

It was still for a few seconds, then Stoick charged at the dragons with a battle cry and the other Vikings joined in. The dragons got spooked and flew away. Not a single one attacked the Vikings as they fled.

The tribe stopped in confusion and watched the dragons flee. Luna whimpered and struggled against her restraints to try and flee with the other dragons as well.

"Is that it?" Gobber asked, very skeptical about the whole situation.

"We've done it!" Spitelout cheered and everyone besides Stoick and Gobber joined in.

Amidst the cheering, there was an odd rumbling sound that slowly gained volume that was coming from the cavern. Stoick's eyes slowly widened as he realized that there was another dragon.

"This isn't over. Form your ranks! Hold together!" Stoick ordered and the cheering immediately stopped as they all readied themselves.

As the tribe was preparing themselves, a gigantic dragon broke out of the mountain and sent giant pieces of rock flying every which way.

"Get clear!" Stoick shouted and everyone scattered.

Luna became more frantic in her thrashing as she tried to escape her shackles to escape.

"Beard of Thor…what is that?!" Gobber asked as he got clear of some debris.

"Odin, help us. Catapults!" Stoick bellowed.

The catapults pelted rocks at the dragon, but everything just bounced right off its hide. The dragon became irritated and trampled the catapults that were closest to it. Some Vikings were running away in fear, while others were still trying to attack.

"Get to the ships!" A random Viking yelled out and most of them started to make their way to the ships.

The queen of the Nest noticed this, and Stoick noticed as well. His eyes widened and he looked towards the boats.

"No! NO!"
The queen glared at the boats and set fire to all of them. Luna screeched out of fear as the boat she was trapped on was set aflame.

"Heh. Smart that one." Gobber stated when he saw all the boats alight with bright red flames.

"I was a fool." Stoick said as he watched the queen destroying everything. He looked towards Spitelout with his mind set. "Lead the men to the other side of the island."

Spitelout nodded. "Right." He looked at the rest of the tribe and gestured for them to follow as he started towards the other end of the island. "Everybody to the far side of the island!"

As everyone was following Spitelout, Stoick stayed behind and Gobber walked over to him. He noticed and gave him a quick glance before looking back at the queen.

"Gobber, go with the men." Stoick ordered.

"I think I'll stay, just in case you're thinking of doing something crazy." Gobber answered with determination clear in his tone, knowing full well that his chief and best friend was planning to sacrifice himself for the safety of the tribe.

"I can buy them a few minutes if I give that something to hunt." Stoick explained, not tearing his gaze away from the dragon.

"Then I can double that time." Gobber said as he placed his good hand on Stoick's shoulder.

Stoick looked at his best friend and they both nodded in agreement. Both of them started running in opposite directions waving their arms about to try and get the attention of the queen.

"HERE!" Stoick shouted to try and get the dragon to follow him.

"Oh, no, HERE!" Gobber said to confuse her.

Their strategy was working somewhat. The queen kept looking between them and trying to hit them with fire or her paw.

"Come on! Bite me!" Gobber teased.

"No, me!" Stoick tried, but he then became distracted as he saw his son and the other teens fly past, the other teens on the backs of dragons that flew behind his son.

"Ruff, Tuff, watch your backs! Move, Fishlegs!" Astrid ordered. The three teens in question nodded and got out of the way as a stream of fire flew through the air where the Gronckle and Zippleback were seconds ago.

"LOOK AT US! WE'RE ON A DRAGON! WE'RE ON DRAGONS! ALL OF US!" Tuffnut shouted as he and Ruffnut flew over Gobber and Stoick.

Hiccup looked around and noticed how low they were to the ground. That wasn't that good of an idea with how large the queen was.

"Up, let's move it!" He screeched to the other dragons as he flew higher in the air.

The other dragons followed suit and grouped close together.

"Fishlegs, break it down!" Astrid ordered.

Fishlegs nodded and looked over the queen. "Okay! Heavily armored skull and tail made for bashing and crushing! Steer clear of both! Small eyes, large nostrils! Relies on hearing and smell!" He listed off loud enough for the whole group to hear.

"Alright! Lout, Legs, hang in its blind spot! Make some noise, keep it confused! Ruff, Tuff, find out if it has a shot limit! Make it mad!" Astrid instructed.

"That's my specialty!" Ruffnut said excitedly.

"Since when?! Everyone knows I'm more irritating! See?" Tuffnut said as he flipped himself and the head of the Zippleback he was steering upside-down, the Zippleback head did not look too pleased.

"Just do what I told you!" Astrid shouted irritably. "Hiccup, go check on the tribe! I'll be back as soon as I can!" She finished as she steered the Nadder towards the boats.

"Don't worry, we got it covered!" Snotlout shouted as Astrid flew away from the group.

Hiccup gave him a deadpan look before they all split up to do their own tasks. The young dragon sped around the island, noticing that the majority of the tribe was safely on the other side, then he looped back around. He landed and looked over his dad and mentor. When Hiccup was satisfied to see they were unharmed he was preparing to take flight once more, but was stopped when he felt a hand rest on his head. Hiccup looked over at the person and crooned a bit worried when he saw it was his father.

"Son, I…I'm sorry…for–for everything." Stoick apologized.

Hiccup crooned softly and leaned into his touch as his way of telling him he was sorry too.

"You don't have to go up there." Stoick said.

Hiccup backed away a bit and gave him a look that said 'We're Vikings. It's an occupational hazard.'

Stoick chuckled and rubbed Hiccup's head. "I'm proud to call you my son. Dragon or not."

Hiccup purred then he pulled away and noticed that Astrid had gotten Luna free and was flying once more to help the others. He gave his dad a gummy smile before he took to the air again himself just as the twins got Snotlout off the queen.

As the others got clear of the queen, Hiccup circled around the dragon and his eyes widened as he noticed she had wings.

'That thing has wings! Okay, let's see if it can use them!' He thought, then sent a plasma blast at the queen and quickly flew away from her. Hiccup then looked back to see if that worked.

The queen was very irritated and she slowly unfurled her wings and lifted off the ground. The young Night Fury became rigged and looked forward. 'Well, she can fly.' He thought then shook his head and focused. 'Now I just gotta slow her down.'

Hiccup flew towards the sea stacks that surrounded the Nest and proceeded to dodge all of them with ease, but the queen just plowed right through them as she chased him down. Hiccup looked back at her then shot up into the dark clouds above.

The queen followed him and the young dragon circled around her, using his black scales and the dark clouds as a way to stay hidden from her. As he circled around her, she flew around in circles sending fire in random directions. With the coverage of the clouds, Hiccup was able to release plasma blasts and puncture holes in the queen's wings.

He kept at that for a few more minutes, but as time went on it became difficult to dodge the fire the queen released. Hiccup's eyes widened as he dodged a stream of fire, but he screeched in pain as some of it hit his left tailfin. He then released a plasma blast at the queen as he came out of the clouds.

"COME ON! IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO?!" He taunted through the pain.

The queen got super pissed off and started to chase the young Night Fury again. Hiccup quickly turned around and started to dive, preparing himself for the final blow. The queen dived after him, her anger very prominent in her attempts to harm him. As Hiccup dived, his tailfin began to hurt even more from the strain and the air speeding past him, not making the burn feel any better as it did.

Hiccup whined slightly, but steeled himself and kept focused on diving. The queen started to build up gas in her throat to release fire upon the young dragon the closer they got to the island. The closer they got, the more nervous Hiccup became.

'Just a little longer..' He thought, waiting for the right moment.

When the queen was about to release a stream of fire, Hiccup took the chance. He flipped himself and quickly released a plasma blast into the queen's mouth then tried his best to get higher in the air as the queen's gas went off inside her and set her body aflame. He dodged all the spikes on her back as she fell and made contact with the island, exploding from the impact.

With how focused Hiccup was on dodging all the spikes, he didn't notice the queen's tail coming ever closer to slamming into him. He screeched in fear when he finally noticed it, but before he could get out of range, the tail slammed into him. The impact was so hard that it knocked Hiccup out and he fell into the fiery inferno below.
