It was close to eleven AM and the Blackwell parking was mostly empty. A student was getting into his car to leave. A squad car was pulling up as close as he could to the student entrance. Max Caulfield was in the front passenger seat. She had been informed classes were called off for the next week. Most people were taking advantage of this and sleeping in. Mostly from the stress of the afternoon before. She had argued with herself the entire ride to ask the officer to take her to hospital. Though she never did ask. It was a silent ride. Max just stared out the window, wishing so dearly for sleep.
"Miss Caulfield? We've arrived." The last name bit to the bone. It was enough for her to realize the car had stopped and they had reached the school.
In her mind and memories she was no longer a Caulfield. Long ago she had gotten used to Mrs. Chase. "Maxine? I can take you somewhere else?" There was worry in his voice. Max knew he was one of the few good cops left in Arcadia Bay. She had found that out in the past. After she had mutilated every cop in that station to get access to The Monster. He gave the info willingly, saying he hated the Prescotts more than any cop in all of Oregon. That hadn't stopped her from making sure he was telling the truth.
"N-… Never Maxine. No, but thank you. Right now I just want to get to my bedroom." Max was staring up toward the roof. How would Kate try it this time.
"Understandable. You have my card and I put my cell number on the back. Call me if you need anything. Just to talk even." Max nodded in agreement. If only she could actually tell him what was going on.
"Thank you for the ride." With that Max opened the door and stepped out. She heard the window rolling down behind her.
"Remember, call for anything. I'm here to help." Max gave him a tired smile and nodded again. She wondered if he'd be so helpful if he remembered her ripping his fingernails off like she did.
It wasn't long before she was in the hallway of her dorm. Luckily she missed running into any students. She walked down the corridor and stopped outside of Kate's room. Max sighed and knocked on Kate's door. There wasn't an answer. Panic flowed into her veins like fire. She didn't knock again, but was now slamming her fist against the door. Still there was no answer. Max was about to slip through time to get into Kate's room until she heard a door open to her right.
A shaken Victoria said. "Kate went to the hospital to see Chloe… Can we talk?"
