Alphabet Soup - Overwhelmed
Maura had been having trouble writing stories for her creative writing class. She was frustrated. Jane could tell that something was bothering her friend so she asked, "Maur, what's wrong?"
"Nothing Jane." Maura replied as she turned her head away from Jane and looked down at the carpet. They were sitting in her living room after having just finished eating dinner together. They were set to watch a movie but Jane could sense that something was up with Maura, she wasn't acting like herself.
"Liar, Maur, we have been friends for years. I know when something is wrong and besides your neck is turning red. You are breaking out in hives because you are not being honest with me."
Maura thought for a moment as she put her right hand to her neck, and then said, "Jane, it's really nothing for you to worry about. I will figure it out."
"Maur, you know if you tell me what it is I can probably help you."
"I don't know, Jane, I don't want to burden you with my problems."
"Maur, you and what you term as 'your problems' are not a burden to me, ever, so spill, please."
"Jane."
"Maur."
"Okay."
"Okay, really."
"Yes."
"Okay, so what is bothering you?"
"I am behind in my creative writing assignments. I am overwhelmed. I am having issues with writing."
"Okay, so what are the assignments, maybe I can help you."
"Well for starters, I am a few weeks behind on my daily writing assignments. Each class we have a new short story due and I haven't completed any of them for over two weeks. My instructor said as long as they are in by the end of class I will be okay. He has faith that I will complete them."
"Maur, it is not like you to get so far behind. Actually, it iss not like you to be behind on anything. Please show me your assignment sheet."
Maura pulled out her assignment sheet and passed it to Jane. Jane reviewed the assignments and thought to herself, 'why is she having such a time with these assignments, they should be easy for her.'
"Maur, I don't understand, these assignments are not that hard, you should be able to complete these with little effort."
"I know but every time I start to write, my mind goes blank. Well, not blank, I just think about one thing and it overwhelms me and won't let me think about anything else." Maura honestly tells Jane. She had been trying to figure out a way to tell Jane and maybe this is the way to do it.
"Wow, it must be something special if it is occupying your thoughts like that."
"You have no idea, Jane."
"Well, how about this. Don't worry about your assignments for now. Write about what is on your mind. Write until you feel you have everything written down and then maybe you can write about your assignments."
"Are you going to read what I write?" Maura asked.
"Only if you want me to. It is okay if you don't want me to read what you write. I just feel that if you can't talk about it maybe by writing it down you will not feel so overwhelmed by it."
"You are a great friend Jane."
Jane blushed a little, "I am just trying to help you Maur. I have never known you to be like this and I want you to pass your creative writing class."
Maura curled up on one end of the couch with Jane at the other. The fireplace was roaring and Jane was playing a game on her phone. Maura curled her feet under her and Jane glanced over and noticed the smile on Maura's face. Maura was really thinking. Jane saw the pen moving and was happy that Maura seemed to be writing.
Half an hour went by and Maura put the pen down. She turned the pad over placing what she had written so that Jane couldn't see it. "I am finished, would you like another beer?"
Jane smiled at Maura and replied, "Sure, thanks Maur." Maura went to the kitchen and poured herself another glass of wine and retrieved a beer for Jane. She walked back over to the couch and sat down. This time she extended her legs out towards Jane and faced Jane with her back to the arm rest of the couch. Jane could feel that Maura was staring at her. "What's up, Maur?" Jane asked as she was curious as to why she was staring at her.
"Would you like to read what I wrote?" Maura offered.
Jane replied, "Sure, if you want me to."
"I do." Maura stated as she reached for the pad of paper and handed it to Jane. Jane read it and raised her eyebrows as she looked at Maura.
"Maur, what does this mean? All you wrote is the word YOU."
"I know, you overwhelm me, all I can think about is YOU. I should be writing about my assignments but my brain will only let me think about you."
"I am sorry, Maur, how can I help you?"
"Kiss me." Maura said with a huge smile. She had dreamed of Jane kissing her and she could think of nothing else.
Jane smiled, "Okay, I would be happy to kiss you."
"Really."
"Yes."
"You really want to kiss me?"
"Yes, Maur, I really want to kiss you. Don't you want me to kiss you?"
"Yes, I have wanted that for a long time. I can't stop thinking about it."
"Alright then, come here." Jane motioned for her to move closer. Jane moved closer as well and they met in the middle. Jane took Maura's face in her hands and kissed her. Maura didn't respond at first. After a few seconds Maura responded and deepen the kiss. She loved the feel of Jane's lips against hers. She didn't want this feeling to end. She pulled Jane in closer to her. Jane broke the kiss so that she could breathe.
"Wow, Maur, I never knew kissing you would feel so good."
Maura didn't reply with words, she just pushed Jane back so that she was laying on the couch and followed her kissing her hard as their arms fumbled around trying to pull themselves closer to one another. It was awkward but fascinating at the same time.
They kissed for a while before Jane broke the kiss again as she remembered what the first prompt was on Maura's assignment sheet: 'Who is the most interesting person you can think of? Create a list of questions you would ask them in an interview.' Now she understood why Maura couldn't get past that question, "Maura did you select me as your interesting person to interview?"
"Yes, I did, and I am stuck on what questions to ask you."
Jane sat up and pulled Maura up with her. "Let's write down some questions you can ask me and then we can resume kissing some more and then I will answer the questions and we can kiss some more."
"That sounds like a fabulous plan, can we get back to kissing now? I rather enjoyed it." Maura said as she pulled Jane into her so that she could continue making out with her. They fell asleep in each other's arms on the couch without writing down a single question. They both had smiles on their faces as they sat curled up together on the couch.
The next day after waking up on the couch, they stretched and untangled themselves from each other and set out to begin their day. They each went to different bathrooms to shower and get dressed. Jane was the first to reappear and she made some coffee and then looked in Maura's refrigerator to see what she could make for breakfast. She quickly decided on making omelets and had just plated them when Maura joined her in the kitchen.
Maura leaned up and gave Jane a kiss on the cheek and stole her cup of coffee and took a seat at the kitchen island as she drank Jane's coffee. Jane just smiled and poured herself another cup of coffee and passed Maura an omelet. "So, I looked over the rest of your writing assignments and as much as I would like to continue kissing you for the remainder of our day off, I think we should knock out some of your writing assignments."
Maura frowned, she would much rather continue kissing Jane. "But, I …"
"No Maur, you cannot kiss me until you have at least one week's worth of your daily writing assignments done." Jane said as she continued to smile at Maura. "They are not that hard and shouldn't take you that long to complete. How about you do the first ten and then we can go to the beach together."
Maura smiled, the thought of seeing Jane in a bikini, that in itself would be worth finishing ten assignments. "Okay."
"I will even let you kiss me at the beach, you can hold my hand also." Jane would let Maura kiss her anytime she wanted but she wanted Maura to catch up on her assignments. She didn't like seeing her overwhelmed and she would not let her return to that state. She didn't like seeing Maura like that. She would much rather see this new kissing version of Maura, she was enjoying being the object of Maura's desires. She had been attracted to Maura for quite some time but didn't know that Maura felt the same way and to think she owed this all to a writing assignment.
"Jane, would you go out on a date with me?" Maura asked a little nervously.
"Of course, Maur, I would do almost anything for you. Going on a date sounds like a great idea."
Maura was no longer overwhelmed and two hours later she had her daily writing assignments done and was on her way to the beach with Jane. She already had a plan in motion for their first date.
