Both girls didn't say a word for a long time. Maxine's body occasionally shook with a silent sob. Vic held her tightly and Maxine held back even tighter. Victoria was trying to think of something to say. Perhaps she could tell her about how Chloe was alive, try to apologize for what Max had done, but she knew there nothing she could say to make up for or justify what Max had done to her.

Maxine was the one to break the silence after her sobs subsided. "They put me in prison for what Max did." Vic opened her mouth to say something but then found no words. "You tried to help. Spent millions on lawyers and the appeals… There was just too much solid evidence. My finger prints on the morphine injector. The simple fact Chloe was paralyzed… The main thing we had in my favor, but also was damning against me, was the audio recording from the monitoring system they used to check in on Chloe with. Apparently Chloe asked Max to put her to sleep. That she didn't want to be a burden on her parents anymore. She wanted her last memories to be that perfect day and night that Max had given her… The Prices were going to lose the house to the bank just from the debt, Chloe's life insurance would have fixed that." Maxine went quiet again. She bit her lower lip hard, trying to not start crying again.

"I'm so sorry." Vic whispered into the brunette's hair. She didn't dare say anything more. Maxine squeezed her eyes shut, in doing so a few tears were pushed out.

"I know- at least I hoped with every fiber of my being, that if it had been Us that visited her… She never would had asked that of us. She sounded so worried about the money. What they owed would have been a drop in the ocean to you, let alone your family. I know you like being the rich girl at school, but I know that even more you liked that everyone thought that Nathan and the Prescotts were the richest people in the town. When really it's you…" Maxine was half rambling at this point. "I tried so fucking hard. I tried. Tried to rewind it, take it back. Bring Chloe back. But I couldn't. Something, Max, I don't know, was blocking me. The cops dragged me from their house as I was coughing blood and bleeding from my eyes. It hurt so much but I didn't care. I would have killed myself just to bring her back."

Victoria took in everything Maxine told her. The horror was beyond what she could imagine. She put her cheek against Maxine's head and cradled her against herself. Maxine was right, the Prescotts were multi-millionaires but her family had trillions. Hell, her eighteenth birthday was mostly taken over by all the paperwork she had to fill out and meetings she attended. Being given a third equal share in the company made her worth close to a trillion dollars herself. She hated and loved it at the same time. She had anything she ever wanted but also saw everyone around her struggling. The silver spoon thrust in her mouth at birth had long since become rotten and disgusting.

"After that, time travel wasn't really of much use to me. What's the point of rewinding just to extend the time you're in prison." Maxine loosened her grip on Vic's arm to interlace their fingers. She took a few deep breaths to steady herself. "After the years of failed appeals, I just gave up. I stopped accepting your visits, refused to read your letters. Eventually you and the letters stopped coming all together. One day, the guards got sloppy and I just slipped out. I didn't know what to do, except find you. I did. You were in the arms of another woman. You were happy, and I was happy for you… I went into the forest, found a high cliff. Then jumped." Vic's breath hitched and she grabbed Maxine's hand harder. "Then the next thing I know I was in the Two Whales and it had only been hours for Max. That's when I vowed to destroy everything she loved. After I said that she locked me away in her mind. Using me as a dumpster for all her mistakes. I cherished every one of them though. Anything was better than nothing. Not gonna lie, watching you scream at her made me feel good. Knowing that she continued to fuck up with you. Just… I don't know, Made me feel like I was the real one meant for you, not her."

Vic rubbed her cheek against Maxine's hair. "Maybe I'm just destined to fall for you, no matter the universe."

Maxine raised their hands and kissed the back of Vic's. "From what I've seen, it does seem that way. Or at least Max pursues you instead of Chloe."

Vic bit her lip, did she dare? At the moment Maxine seemed a lot more willing to answer questions than Max ever did. "… Instead of Chloe?"

Maxine let out a little sigh but kept the back of Vic's hand against her lips. "My- Our, first love was Chloe. For me, we met on the playground at recess when I was in second grade. I was hiding under the climbing wall and she was playing tag. She saw me and asked if I wanted to play with them. I said no, expecting her to go away but she just crawled under the wall and sat next to me. Saying, 'alright, we can spy on everyone else together then'. We were two peas in a pod after that. She introduced me to her friends, we played together during recess, passed notes in the hall. Eventually we started going to each other's houses. I fell for her fast and hard, never thought she felt the same way… But she did. Sorry I'm talking so much about another girl. I'm pretty high."

Victoria chuckled softly. She didn't mind in the slightest. Maxine, and Max as well, had made it very clear the only person they wanted was Victoria. "I won't lie and say I'm not a jealous person, but something tells me I don't need to be jealous."

Maxine smiled against Vic's hand. "No you don't, you're the only person for me. Sorry I was… rough when I showed up. I didn't mean anything bad against you, only against Max. She just, fucking only chooses you. Every time I wake up I see your face and it just, just pisses me off. Why can't I wake up to her being with Taylor." Maxine mentioned Taylor knowing her and Vic had hooked up in the past, one drunken tryst, in her timeline at least.

"Gonna be like that every time?"

"...You want me to come back?"

"I'm not gonna let you just stay away, In that darkness." Vic squeezed Maxine for a second. "I got you in my grip now. Not letting go."

Maxine thought that over for a while. "Max isn't going to take that news well, you have to know that?"

Vic let out a long sigh, Maxine could hear a little anger in it. "To be honest, I didn't take the news of her keeping a different version of herself locked away in her own personal hell very well either."

Maxine looked down at Vic's hand. Their fingers still intertwined, she rubbed her thumb across Vic's pointer. "...Thank you. You're not always nice to me."

Vic couldn't imagine that. Then again, she couldn't imagine that Max had super powers before this morning. Or that her favorite professor was a disgusting bastard. "Well I can be a major bitch kinda often… Sorry. I'm trying to be better."

"For her." Maxine let the evil thought slip out.

"No. Bitch." Maxine giggled at that. "Did a lot of thinking last night. I'm kind of a shit human being. I've always hated myself on some level. I need to be better for myself, otherwise… I- I want to be proud of myself for once."

"You will be, I've seen it."

"Well I'll believe it when I see it." Vic rested her cheek against the back of Maxine's head again.

"I love you Victoria."

Vic's breath got caught in her throat. Where did that come from? She could at try to return it in the most honest way she could. "Pretty sure I'm falling for you. Both of you, which is weird to say. I mean, does this make me poly or what?" Victoria chuckled. "Fuck, how is Chloe going to react to this?"

Maxine's body tensed completely. She then let go of Vic's hand and quickly turned around in Victoria's arms. Desperately she grabbed Vic's shoulder a bit too roughly. "What do you mean how will Chloe react? She Cant be alive. Please tell me she's not alive. Please." Maxine was starting to hyperventilate.

Victoria used a hand to cup Maxine's cheek. "Hey it's okay. Nathan shot her but she's in the hospital, and Kate is with her. She's okay."

That only served to fuel Maxine's panic. "No! It is not okay." She climbed over Victoria and got out of the bed, only to begin pacing. "You- You don't understand. You don't know. The storm. Rachel. She's- I can't let it happen." Maxine went to Victoria's desk and grabbed Vic's keys. "We're going to the hospital. I need to see Chloe."

"Whoa, You're high as hell, you shouldn't be driving." Vic slid into a seated position, holding out her hand for the keys.

Maxine stopped pacing, and just gave Vic a deadpan face. "I smoked a joint on the way here Vic. Plus you have never seen me drive yet, and you kinda love it. I freeze the town and drive around like it's my personal playground."

Vic gave her an exasperated look. "I'm not getting my keys am I?"

"I mean, we could wrestle for them? No powers, promise." Vic laughed a bit and shook her head.

"While that does sound fun, not right now. But if I say pull over, you pull over."

"Ooo, so later then?" Vic rolled her eyes. Maxine held out her hand for Vic. "Come on, let's go Tori."

Victoria bit the corner of her lip and took Maxine's hand, letting her pull her up. Maxine kept hold of Vic's hand and headed toward the door.

They had to get to the hospital, and Chloe had to die.
