It takes until two weeks before the entrance exam but goddammit, he cleans that beach. He celebrates by climbing onto the last pile of trash to be transported onto the truck, and yelling to his heart's content at the rising sun.
He startles All Might by that, a lot, as the hero thought he was yelling from being in danger, but he double startles him by actually being done. Together they pack the last truck and All Might drives it to the landfill. On the way back he announces a cheat day for them both, as a means of celebration.
They go to some fancy restaurant, that Izuku can't help but notice he wouldn't be able to afford, but All Might shushes him and tells him it's on him today, that he deserves a treat after all the hard work. Izuku doubts eating dessert for breakfast is a healthy choice but he's not complaining.
They are led to a far away corner of the restaurant into a private booth, and All Might does a quick sweep for bugs before settling in his seat. Izuku is, understandably, unnerved.
"Midoriya-shounen, all those months ago I promised you to give you my quirk when the time was right," he says gently, "Today is the day, but…" Oh Kami he changed his mind didn't he— "You're gonna have to consume a part of my DNA for that."
"What."
All Might plucks his hair. "Eat this."
Izuku chokes on air.
Then he chokes on a hair.
The dessert he eats afterwards lessens the aftertaste, but doesn't fully remove it.
That's not the end of surprises for the day though. All Might makes a few calls and suddenly Izuku is excused from school for the day (thanks mom), and… Kami, surely not… going to UA?
"All Might, but… why? What's happening?"
"I want you to meet some people and copy their skillsets," All Might explains with a cheeky smile. Izuku's brain grinds to a halt.
"B-But… Wouldn't it be cheating? Getting all their skillsets…" Izuku mumbles out, and All Might looks at him like he grew a second head.
"Cheating? Midoriya-shounen, it's your quirk, how is it more cheating than using any other quirk in existence?"
"Oh," Izuku says, "Oh." He doesn't say more until they're well in front of UA gates.
And then he turns into a fanboy, as is usual for him.
He gushes and squeals and mutters as All Might expertly leads him into the teacher's lounge. Oh Kami. The teacher's lounge? He's going to copy the skillsets of heroes!?
He, inadvertently, assumed he would be copying the skillsets of students… Oh Kami.
"All Might, I can't," he digs his heels in and forces the hero to stop right before opening the door.
"Sure you can, Midoriya-shounen, now in you go." With that he opens the sliding door and pushes Izuku inside.
All eyes are on him. He gulps.
"I am here! With my student!" All Might announces cheerfully, entering the room behind him.
"Good morning," Izuku said barely above a whisper, but in the volume vacuum that All Might's booming voice left it was just loud enough.
Every single hero gathered in the room stares at him in silence, until finally, blessedly, Present Mic breaks the quiet.
"Welcome little listener! No need to be so shy, come on!" He gestures widely around him, and All Might, the traitor, pushes him forward again. "What's your name? Big guy over there was really secretive about you, you know!"
"M-Midoriya Izuku-desu!"
"Midoriya, huh?" someone grunts from the floor, and Izuku nearly jumps as he sees a… human caterpillar of sorts. The man is wrapped in a yellow sleeping bag, with long dark hair… Izuku doesn't recognise him. But he must be a teacher so… Oh well, maybe he'd recognise him through learning his skillset? "Thought you'd share a surname with your son."
With his what!?
"He's not— I'm not his— Son!? I—" he sputters, red in the face. Behind him All Might chokes on blood.
"Ah." The caterpillar man says, a heavy silence lingering. "My bad," he finally concedes.
"Where would you find him then?" Midnight asks, clearly baffled. Did she think I'm his son too?
"In a villain attack," All Might wheezes out, still winded from choking. "He really impressed me with his quick thinking and bravery and I started mentoring him," he briefly explains. It's really not a full description but it's enough for them to know, certainly. "Completely unconnected to that, his quirk is really special, and also the reason why I brought him here today!" He puts his hand on Izuku's shoulder. "I'd like to ask all of you to shake his hand."
"That's it?" Midnight asks with a frown. "What's it gonna do?"
"Nothing to you, everything for him," All Might replies cheekily.
"Alright…"
What follows is each and every hero giving him their hand to shake, and Izuku spending way too long doing that each and every time, feeling new skillsets settle in his mind and muscles. That is until he gets to the last, the caterpillar man and—
"You're Eraserhead!" he exclaims, perhaps a tad bit too loudly. The hero's eyes widen before narrowing dangerously.
"How do you know it?"
"Well your skillset includes a lot of shady things for one, you have a lot of skills connected to your sight and keeping it sharp, as well as the fact that I couldn't immediately recognise you…" he trails off realising that he started rambling.
"My… 'skillset'?" There's a glint of recognition in his eyes. "You've got an information quirk," he states, confident in his assessment.
"Mmm… Not exactly…?" He cringes slightly. "But close enough."
Eraserhead squints at him, but lets the subject go.
They leave quickly after that, after all the teachers have to teach the future generations of heroes after all.
Izuku feels like he's buzzing with all the knowledge he now possesses. He knows how to fire a gun, how to use a whip, how to walk soundlessly, how to sing— so many new skills, some more, some less useful but all unique.
He can't wait until the entrance exam, he's going to crush it.
