It was a sunny spring day, and Little Miss Music was humming to herself as she walked down the sidewalk. She was heading to her Senpai house to see what he was up to. It's been a couple of days since the last time they hung out and she's looking forward to seeing him again.

When his house finally came into sight, she quickened her pace until she was running to his front door. Right as she came to a halt on his doorstep, the door opened and at first Little Miss Music expected to come face to face with Mr. Grumpy. But he was carrying a white cooler that was blocking his view so he didn't see her.

She stepped aside and he walked on, unaware that she was there. She hesitated before quietly speaking his name. He dropped the cooler and spun around. He seemed to relax when he saw her; then annoyance sparked in his eyes.

"Don't sneak up on me like that, Miss. Music!" he snapped. Then he calmed down and reached for the cooler. "What are you doing here?" he asked as he picked it up and carried it to his car. She followed him.

"I was wondering if you want to hang," she said, watching as he set the cooler down and opened the back door of his car. "But you seem to be going somewhere," she added, a little embarrassed that she didn't call ahead of time to make sure he wasn't busy.

Mr. Grumpy put the cooler in his back seat and turned to her. "I was going fishing," he told her. He paused before asking," Do you want to come with me?"

"Oh." Normally she'd jump on any chance to spend time with her Senpai, but honestly, she thought fishing was really boring and she hated the smell of fish and she hated eating fish.

But I can't turn down Mr. Grumpy! she screamed at herself in her head. Suddenly she remembered what he told her on their Valentine's Day date, when she ate the liverwurst sandwich even though she hated it and it made her sick.

"I don't want you to eat something or do something just to please me," he'd said. "I want you to do something because you want to do it."

She was torn. She wanted to go just to be with him… But fishing was horrible!

She noticed that he was getting very impatient as she hesitated. Quickly, she nodded, deciding that she'll go just to spend time with her Senpai. "Yes, I want to come," she said.

"Okay. I just have to grab a fishing pole for you." He went back inside and returned with a pole that he put in his back seat and closed the door. Then he walked over to the passenger seat and opened the door for her. She smiled and thanked him as she got in.

He got into the driver's seat and started the car.

They drove for a while in silence which was finally broken when Mr. Grumpy asked," Did you ever go fishing back where you used to live?"

No, she said in her head, because it's so boring! Out loud, she said," I never had time. I was… busy doing other stuff…" She trailed off and prayed that he wouldn't ask her what kind of stuff because she wouldn't know how to answer. She just said that to avoid confessing how she really thought about fishing.

She frowned, suddenly imagining how upset Mr. Grumpy would be if he ever found out that she doesn't like fishing at all and she was just pretending to to please him.

Should she confess? She was still struggling with how to form the words she needed to tell her Senpai the truth when he pulled into a parking lot and cut the engine off. She looked around and gasped when she saw the water. She's been to the lake, but this wasn't the lake. She hasn't been here before in Dillydale, but she grew up in Florida and has been to the beach countless times. This place looked just like it did in the real world: a stretch of sand that leads to a large body of water with no land in sight as far as the horizon.

She climbed out of the car and stared at it until Mr. Grumpy joined her. He took in a deep breath and let it out. "Love that sea air," he remarked, glancing at her.

She nodded quickly and turned to help get the stuff out of the car. Mr. Grumpy took the cooler and one of the poles, leaving the other one for Little Miss Music to carry. She followed him to the boat docks. There were only two boats tied up and Mr. Grumpy approached the nearest one.

As she walked out on the dock, she glanced at the other boat and wondered who it belonged to. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't realize Mr. Grumpy was trying to get her attention until he cleared his throat.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah?" She blinked at him, realizing he was standing in the boat now.

"I was going to help you over," he said, looking a little embarrassed.

She blushed and gave him her free hand. He held her steady as she climbed over the side of the boat. Then she was standing beside him.

He flashed her a shy smile and then hurried away to get the boat ready to set out. She offered to help him, but he said he didn't need help.

It wasn't long before they were heading out. Little Miss Music stood at the front of the boat while Mr. Grumpy started the boat and moved away from the dock. She decided to listen to music as she watched the boat pushed against the waves, bobbing up and down. She focused all her energy on not getting sick. She was so lost in her music that she didn't realize they stopped until a tap on her shoulder startled her.

She jumped and spun around to find Mr. Grumpy standing behind her. His mouth moved but her music was still on. Hot with embarrassment, she paused her music and said," I'm sorry, what?"

He sighed. "I said, this looks like a nice spot to find some fish."

Little Miss Music looked into the water. How could he tell which spot would be better than any other? To her, every spot out here looked exactly the same. But she decided to trust him. He was the expert after all.

She watched as he got his pole ready and then he helped her get hers ready. Soon they were both standing there with their lines in the water. Little Miss Music tried to stay still, but she was very fidgety. She hated just standing here. And of course her restlessness was annoying Mr. Grumpy, who kept glancing at her and sighing.

Finally, seeming to have had enough of her squirming, he set down his pole and turned to her. "You know the fish can feel the vibration of you move through your line," he told her, with just a tiny hint of annoyance like he wanted to get mad at her, but he was holding in his temper.

"Sorry," she muttered.

He sighed and opened his mouth, but before he could speak, there was a tug on his line which was still in the water. He reached for his pole, but as soon as he grabbed it, the pole was yanked forward, also carrying Mr. Grumpy with it.

Little Miss Music gasped and rushed to save him before he was thrown into the water. She held on tight to his feet, while he struggled to pull in the line, seeming unwilling to let go of the pole.

Her grip was slipping. She tried to hold on, but not even a moment later, there was another mighty tug and he flew out of her grasp. She ran to the edge of the boat and frowned down at him as he floated in the water.

"Are you okay?" she called out.

He was grumbling to himself as he swam to the side of the boat and climbed the ladder. He stood dripping in front of her, and she avoided his eye as he kept muttering under his breath. She heard him say," Lost my pole." And," That was the biggest fish I ever saw!"

She shifted her standing position. "I-I'm s-sorry," she whispered.

He took a deep breath and let out a huge sigh. "It's fine," he muttered, but she could tell that he was more upset than he was admitting right now. He glanced at her pole next to them. "But we only have one pole now. We both can't use it."

She grabbed it and handed it to him. "You use it," she told him. When he frowned at her, she quickly added," It's your pole anyways. I'm fine just watching you."

Shrugging, he took the pole and casted out the line again, this time holding on tight to it. She stood beside him without speaking. She felt terrible that she made him lose his pole, and she didn't want to risk saying something that would upset him even more.

After a while, Mr. Grumpy pulled in the line and sighed. "I doubt there's anymore fish around here after I splashed into the water like that."

Little Miss Music lowered her gaze and didn't say anything.

He seemed to notice how miserable she was because he patted her kind of awkwardly on the shoulder and said," It's no big deal. Um accidents happen."

She looked up at him. "Do you want to go home?" she asked quietly.

He glanced around. "It's quite peaceful out here," he replied. "Why don't we just stay here for a bit?" He walked over to the cooler and opened it. "I brought sandwiches," he said, but then stopped and shook his head. "It's liverwurst, though."

"It's fine. I'm not hungry." She can wait to eat until they got back.

He shrugged and grabbed a sandwich for himself and a can drink that he gave her. They sat down, and he ate while she drank her soda. For a while they sat in silence. Then Mr. Grumpy asked her," So, what kind of music do you like?"

She stared at him. He's never asked her that before. She was so shocked that she didn't say anything for a long time. Finally, she pulled out her phone. "My favorite band is Simple Plan," she said, scrolling through her playlist. "This is my favorite song ever." She pressed play and the song started.

Do you ever feel like breaking down?

Do you ever feel out of place

Like somehow you just don't belong

And no one understands you?

Do you ever wanna run away?

Do you lock yourself in your room

With the radio on, turned up so loud

That no one hears you screaming?

After a while Little Miss Music noticed that Mr. Grumpy was staring at her. She paused the song and blinked at him. She had been mouthing the words and every time she did this, her eyes started to water. Every. Time. No matter what song she was singing along to. They were watering up now, and when she blinked, tears streamed down her face.

Quickly, she wiped away her tears. "S-Sorry," she murmured.

"Are you okay?" he asked, and she turned back to him to see the worry in his eyes.

"Y-Yeah." She cleared her throat and started again. "It's not bad crying. I usually tear up when I sing. The emotions of the lyrics hit me, that's all."

He hesitated. Then he suggested," Maybe… um… listen to happier songs?"

She frowned. "It's not that this is a sad song. I'd tear up to a happy song, too. Maybe for a different reason. I just get so emotional when I sing. That's why I don't really sing in public." She swallowed, embarrassed. "I guess my songs are more powerful than most other people in Dillydale listen to. But I love them and I wouldn't stop listening to them, even if they make me cry. But I do have happy songs. Here, let me find one." She went through her playlist again and stopped at the first song you considered happy. This time she didn't sing along with it, even though she really wanted to.

I've been stopping at green lights

Got lost on my way home

I'm sleep walking at night

I put my shirt on inside out

Umbrella in the sun

My head up in the clouds

My friends just laugh at me

There's only one thing it could be

I've come down with love

Got bit by the bug

I'm sick and I feel confused

I know it's true

I've come down with love

I can't get enough

I won't break this fever

I need her I'm bit by the bug

Once again she noticed that Mr. Grumpy was watching her, but this time he was blushing, and when she looked at him, he glanced away from her. Suddenly embarrassed, she paused her music.

"I have other happy songs," she stammered, and she desperately looked through her playlist, needing to find one song with a happy meaning behind it. She was surprised when Mr. Grumpy laid his hand on hers and she looked up to see him watching her.

"It's fine, Miss. Music," he said, looking very shy. "Listen to what you like, whether they are happy songs or not. Just don't let a song upset you too much." For a moment they sat there, with his hand on hers. Then he cleared his throat and pulled away, to her disappointment. He stood up and helped her to her feet. "Let's get back. It'll be dark soon."

Suddenly Little Miss Music noticed the sun was starting to set. She nodded and watched as he went to start the boat. They rode back in silence, but it was comfortable silence, and Little Miss Music almost felt disappointed when they made it back to shore.

She offered to take the cooler and fishing pole while Mr. Grumpy tied the boat back up. Then they walked to his car and Mr. Grumpy drove to Little Miss Music's house. By the time they got there, it was completely dark and Mr. Grumpy walked her to her doorstep. He seemed to hesitate about something. Then he said," I had fun today."

She beamed at him. "Me too." She shifted her standing position, suddenly self-conscious. She lowered her gaze for a moment before looking back at him. She noticed he was looking shy too.

Then she saw that he was leaning toward her. She was frozen in her spot, not sure what to do. She didn't even move when he laid a soft kiss on her cheek. He pulled back and immediately turned away.

"I'm sorry," he stammered. "I-I don't know what came over me." He stared down at the ground.

Little Miss Music felt herself relaxing, a dreamy smile spreading across her face. "Oh, Senpai," she whispered. "It's okay." She ran forward and hugged him.

He didn't move at first. Then he hugged her back. Finally, they separated and said goodnight and Little Miss Music went inside. She wanted to call her best friend, Little Miss Calamity and tell her everything that happened today, but it was really late and she didn't want to risk waking her if she was asleep. She decided to tell her tomorrow.

Suddenly exhaustion hit her. She went to get ready for bed, greeting her kitty, Jingle who was stretched out on the bed. When Little Miss Music entered the room, the black cat woke and lifted her head.

"Hey, Jingle," the Little Miss said, smiling. "You wouldn't believe what happened today!" She might have to wait to tell Little Miss Calamity, but she can tell Jingle right now. Even if she was a cat and might not understand her, she needed to tell someone and nobody was here but Jingle.

With a happy sigh, she climbed onto her bed and started her story from the moment she went to go see her Senpai that morning.
