27: BurnScar
The day had started out pretty well for Lois Lane all things considered, several weeks ago she was almost fired for her reckless action, her boss yelled at her so much that Lois was surprised she didn't end up with some kind of hearing damage.
Even so, she was not fired and instead had obtained some of the clearest and most important images of that fight.
His face had been on the front page and his name had gained weight in the industry just as she had wanted.
She was just starting her career so she didn't have many great marks to her name, yet a single great mark was enough to boost her and she had been having some busy days since then.
It was a shame that the fight at the Stark mansion took place so far away, no one found out about it until it was almost over and at that point no good images had been able to be obtained.
But people had made their own assumptions.
Monsters, was the most popular name by which they were called, their appearances had not been too many but it was enough for people to realize that something was happening on the planet.
After the fight that destroyed the Stark industries offices the number of them had increased, none as strong or important as the first recorded but they were still there.
Defiant had made quick work of taking care of any monsters as fast as they appeared on the radar so it was pretty hard to know they were there if you didn't search properly.
But as a reporter Lois had enough contacts to know that the cases had been increasing.
This wasn't something that would end anytime soon, not much was known and Lois suspected that if she wanted to get any answers she could only do so from two people.
One was Defiant and the other was Tony Stark.
For the former it was almost impossible to find him, he traveled all over the world constantly and even if Lois grew wings she seriously doubted she would be able to get an interview with him anytime soon.
For Tony Stark it should have been easier.
It is necessary to emphasize the should, because it wasn't, since he became Iron Man the playboy who had been constantly on the front page of many magazines and newspapers stopped giving face-to-face appearances.
The presence of the man who had been wandering around all the parties and important events simply vanished.
Contacting him now was almost as difficult as talking to Defiant.
So here was the situation that lois was in, the two people who could give her some inaccessible answer unless she did some crazy thing to get some of them attention.
Mmm, well she's done a lot of crazy stuff before so doing one more shouldn't be a problem.
As Lois watched as she contacted Defiant a tremor pulled her out of her trance.
She looked out the cafeteria window where she was and saw a thick cloud of black smoke coming out of the side of the Baxter building, then an explosion shattered the wall outwards raining debris towards the ground.
Two more explosions followed and the panic began to spread.
Lois quickly took out her cell phone and called.
"Jimmy! Where are you? Quickly come with me to the Baxter building"
"To the Baxter building!? Where are things exploding?!" Jimmy's voice became high, lois grimaced, so she hated the interns.
"Yes right there!"
.
.
.
Daniel cleared the smoke with a slap, the air moved and was expelled through the large hole in the wall.
I look down where Doctor Storm should be, now there were only charred remains of what was once a human.
"NO!" Susan suddenly appeared out of her invisibility state running towards her father's remains.
Falling to her knees she did not seem able to understand what had happened.
"You Killed Him!" johny roared, anger clouding his judgment.
He moved like a flash running towards Spencer starting to fight him.
Daniel sighed, had passed again, had been in his arms, had been holding him and yet could not save him.
He gritted his teeth.
This day he seemed to want to strike his will but he was not weak enough to allow something like this to stop him.
At least not now, not when I had a fight to win and an enemy to hit.
He moved quickly and reached a remote part of the room.
When he had brought everyone to the lab he had made a quick trip then to his farm to bring some things.
He had foreseen that a fight could happen because of what he brought his suit, I do not hesitate to put it on quickly.
He should make another one, one that would allow him to wear it under his clothes so that he wouldn't have to waste time, although it actually took him less than a second to change.
When he put on the goggles he did not hesitate and accelerated at full speed towards Spencer.
Johny had actually been giving serious trouble to
villain?
Daniel didn't know whether to call it that.
It certainly wasn't good and the accident seemed to have brought out the worst in him.
By killing Doctor Storm he had ceased to be a victim and had become the enemy.
And if his words were an indication, he wouldn't settle for just killing Doctor Storm.
So Daniel would have to stop him.
His figure blurred leaving a secondary image behind him.
The secondary image seemed to address Spencer and this quickly teleported not far trying to dodge.
That was his mistake.
The real Daniel suddenly appeared behind him and his fist hit his face hard.
Enough strength to break an ordinary person's jaw.
Spencer had stopped being common long ago.
Although his face turned hard because of the beating, this did not bring down Spencer.
His burned hand took Daniel's arm and a burning burn formed in the place where they touched, Daniel opened his eyes slightly before an explosion generated from his arm sent him flying backwards.
The explosion didn't seem big but the power behind it wasn't a joke.
Daniel looked at his arm, the explosion had broken his glove and part of his coat sleeve.
A slight burn was on his skin, burn that quickly disappeared.
This complicated things a bit.
.
Ben opened his eyes, the explosion pulled him out of his trance, felt the vibrations on the ground, slowly stood up.
What was going on?
He didn't know and he didn't know if he should go see.
I look at his hands, hands covered with rocks, his skin gone, deformed beyond recognition.
What kind of monster was he?
Another explosion pulled him out of his dark thoughts.
'What's going on?'
.
Johny went through several walls, his body of fire burned everything in its path yet the impact was enough to disorient him.
Spencer had touched it, just a little bit and that was enough to create an explosion that sent it flying.
That should have been impossible, his body was pure fire, he had some kind of intangibility because of that.
He was still beaten and felt it.
But that didn't stop him, he stood up faster than he was knocked down and his figure became blurry, his body moved faster than the sound of fire burning any resistance the wind could generate.
He's back in the fight.
Johny had learned from his earlier mistake, not going straight to Spencer instead attacking him from his blind spot.
His arms held Spencer's torso and it started to burn with all its might.
"Agh!" Spencer gritted his teeth as he felt Johny hold him the fire began to burn him and the pain was unimaginable.
Daniel didn't let go of this opportunity, his fist slammed into Spencer's cheek this time hard enough to rip the head off any human
For Spencer it was just enough to break his jaw.
The burned skin snapped at the blow and his jaw seemed about to fall off.
"HAA!" Spencer literally exploded the explosion genre from his body creating a large expansive wave that sent Johny and Daniel flying.
The whole building shook and it was only thanks to Susan that there was no major disaster, the explosion stopped dry surrounded by a blue energy.
Having come out of the trance of her father's death, Susan's expression turned dark.
I look at Spencer and her outstretched hands began to tighten, the explosion began to compress and all the energy in her was forced back to its origin.
For a moment she thought she had him trapped, that illusion ruined when a hand almost grabbed his face.
Her pupils shrank when I noticed Daniel holding Spencer's hand that was only an inch away from touching her.
There was a crack, the bone in Spencer's hand broke like a dry twig.
"Enough" the cold voice echoed in the shattered place.
Daniel had had enough of this fight.
"No! Not yet!" Spencer tried to break free but Daniel had already learned his movement pattern.
Quickly his claw-like hand grabbed his face and squeezed, the entire front of Spencer's head seemed to have been crushed inward.
His eyes came out of his beads leaving him completely blind.
"Hiaaghh!"
His cry was miserable but none of those present felt sorry for him.
Johny arrived and saw his father's killer writhe on the ground, reached out his hand a flame began to condense into a fireball.
Daniel saw him but did nothing to stop him, he had no right to do so, not after what he did to those who killed his family.
Just as Johny was about to fire the fireball, an energy field enveloped her and compressed her into oblivion.
"Why!?" johny looked at his sister in anger.
"don't become what he wants you to be" Susan had long ago grasped what Spencer had been planning, even with the pain of losing her father I don't let her mind get clouded.
"You don't see him johny, he wants this, he wants to kill you or you kill him, he wants to escape responsibility and punishment," johny gritted his teeth.
The fire in his body burned with force I look at Spencer, he also had noticed, during the fight Spencer had focused on him and not on daniel.
That was also his mistake, he paid no attention to the biggest threat.
"He killed our father, how can I... how can we leave him like that?!"
"Don't stay like this, he'll get his punishment, but you mustn't stain your hands, he doesn't deserve it"
Seeing the brothers speak Daniel realized that he really missed his own.
He already knew that, but he didn't feel it as much as he does now.
"ha! Agh, c-as you're always useless, you can't finish what you started and now you cower behind your sister's skirt." Spencer laughed on the floor, even with his face destroyed he could still formulate some words.
"Your attempts to provoke him are futile, this fight is over" Daniel approached, what should I do with Spencer? Should I hand him over to Latveria along with the prince?
"I'm not done fighting yet," Spencer seemed to have guessed Daniel's thoughts.
Suddenly the burns on Spencer's body began to glow, blood gushing out, boiling blood giving off steam.
Daniel stepped forward, wanted to stop Spencer before he used any other tricks he had.
But even with his speed he can't stop it in time.
Suddenly dozens of hands formed by blood and burnt flesh came out of the puddle that had formed due to Spencer's blood.
In a second dozens of deformed figures were shot
Johny sped his flaming fist beating one of the figures burning his head to the ashes, but that was not enough when he felt a hand touching his chest.
Then there were several explosions, daniel crashed into a wall and johny rolled across the floor.
"Don't let them touch you have the same power to generate explosions as him!" daniel looked at his body, several hand-shaped scars were imprinted on his suit.
Although the explosions weren't as strong as the ones Spencer made directly, their amount made up for that.
"I noticed!" johny stood staggering, even if his body was of fire he could feel those explosions.
Dozens of figures running towards them at great speed, they were very fast rapids.
But before they got too close, a huge figure ran through a wall, hurling several of the blood monsters down easily.
On the other hand an energy field surrounded a group of monsters and squeezed them until compressing them and turning them into a meat paste.
Seeing this as an opportunity Daniel and johny sped up to the remaining group and cautiously began to fight them.
The explosions continued to resound all over the top of the building.
.
There were flashes, a green light, a destination.
A voice
"v-tor"
"Vi-or"
"Victor!"
The young man lying on a stretcher suddenly opened his eyes.
.
Ben screamed, his rock fist slammed into another of those abominations of blood and flesh easily crushing her.
On his left side he felt a hand touch his back and then an explosion made him stagger slightly.
"Ragh!" waved his arm in the middle of the monster that had attacked him from behind.
A red hand filled his vision the next second and he prepared for the explosion, but a flaming figure stepped in front of him quickly tackling his attacker and reducing him to ashes.
Both looked at each other for a second before nodding and fighting the creatures flooding the lab.
Several energy fields were deployed enclosing the monsters and then compressing and crushing them inside.
For his part daniel struck using distance, each blow generated a current that destroyed any enemy that stood in front, a palm cut split in two to several of the monsters that tried to attack him.
They could not go on like this, Susan was the only reason the building had not suffered so much damage but that would not doubt if she was overwhelmed by the number of enemies there.
His eyes running through the figures, he looked for Spencer in the crowd but could not see his figure.
But he did hear it, an almost imperceptible smile formed on Daniel's lips.
He quickly took a sharp turn and his body broke match when he threw himself into a specific place among the crowd.
"Q-What!" Spencer could not dodge Daniel's onslaught, he folded like a twig when his back was broken by impact.
His monsters shuddered and tried to run towards him but the Storm brothers and Ben were not going to let this happen.
Johny quickly went through several of them, Ben directly crushing them all.
But Susan was probably the biggest contributor.
A large energy field locked up more than half the monsters and brutally crushed them.
At one point all the abominations Spencer had created vanished.
The man fell to the ground with his back broken, his shattered face could not form an expression but judging by how he twisted it would probably show pain.
The four approached him and looked at him, Daniel looked at the group of three, none of them looked really hurt, which relieved him.
"What do we do with it?" johny asked, clearly upset.
"I don't know if we can deliver it, even that wounded is very dangerous" Susan hesitated, what are they supposed to do now?
"Don't worry about it, I'll handle it," Daniel stepped forward, whether he had to kill Spencer or lock him up he could.
Ben stood silently watching the disaster around him, fire and smoke surrounded the floor and several walls were broken.
The lab became almost unrecognizable and probably the only part in good condition was the one that Susan had been protecting, the place where that guy named Victor was.
.
Daniel approached Spencer and I held him up with one hand, he would have to go with Tony to help him create a temporary cell for this guy just like he did before.
"j-ja-ha-ha, I really lost" Spencer's voice made him feel cautious, he thought he'd already lost consciousness.
"W-but, I'm a really bad loser."
His deformed face gave a horrible smile.
Daniel's pupils shrank.
Without hesitation he moved and took Susan in his arms, and johny who had been looking at Spencer also moved and pushed Ben back at the same time.
.
Lois came under the Baxter building, looked up at the cloud of smoke coming out of one of the upper floors.
"What are we supposed to do here lois?" Jimmy olsen looked at the smoke nervously.
"let's go up"
"What!?" Jimmy should have heard wrong right?
"Get ready we have to see what's going on up there" lois started looking for a way in.
"Lois! I don't think that's-" Jimmy's words were interrupted when a bigger explosion than any other occurred at the top of the building.
There was a blinding flash.
Then the rubble started to rain and Jimmy decided to start running.
I take lois's arm and drag her with it.
Of course it was too late to run now, they had come too close when everyone else had long since walked away.
Jimmy screamed when he saw a piece of debris approaching them too fast.
He closed his eyes feeling that his death had finally come.
Of course that didn't happen.
When his body wasn't crushed in a paste on the floor, he opened his eyes and saw some kind of blue energy field enveloping him and lois.
The debris crashed into him but didn't seem to affect him at all.
"Quick Jimmy! Take Pictures" Lois' scream reminded Jimmy of his work and quickly pulled out his camera.
There were two blurred figures in the sky that destroyed the largest debris while several energy fields stopped any other debris escaping.
In just a few moments the situation seemed to have been resolved by just leaving a cloud of black smoke from where the explosion had occurred.
.
Daniel quickly returned to the site of the explosion, where Victor was?
When the explosion happened you didn't have time to take it, would someone else die in front of him without you being able to save him?
Fortunately the fight had taken them away from the place where Victor was so there was a small possibility that he had not died due to the explosion.
Soon he reached the stretcher where he left Victor but what I saluted was an empty bed.
The explosion had not reached her but the one that should have been lying on her had disappeared.
"Damn it!"
.
.
.
"Monster attack on the Baxter building? Just a few minutes ago a series of explosions leveled one of the upper floors of the Baxter building, at the beginning of assumed that it was an accident in the laboratories but recent images show the hero Defiant and another figure destroying the rubble and controlling the site of the explosion, so far not se-"
Tony looked at the footage, the attack on the Baxter building caught him off guard, his new building under construction wasn't too far away so I considered going there.
It wasn't until Defiant contacted him to assure him that everything was fine that he decided to stay in place, he hoped the boy would tell him exactly what happened and if that other flying guy was an ally.
Things were getting more interesting.
.
.
.
Carol looked at the projected screen, the images worried her a little, another incident with monsters?
She should have been there, but she had been busy with some farm duties and did not learn of the incident until it was over.
"So they call them monsters, I certainly couldn't describe them any other way after seeing the analyses that boy gave me," the voice of his mother, his biological mother, reached her ears and Carol turned to see her, her projection was with her.
Using the earth projection technology and connecting it to the ship's systems was quite easy, now her mother could communicate with her and form a projection in Daniel's farm workshop.
"Do you think there's a way to save them? Fix them?" Carol asked, that was something Daniel had been investigating without much success.
Her mother seemed to think about it for a moment before she shook her head.
"the analyses they showed me are too basic and superficial, if I just follow them then it is impossible, I have to do a deep analysis using krypton technology to be able to say whether it is possible or not" the projection looked at a white glass the size of an apple on the work table in front of them.
Carol also looked at the white crystal.
"You must choose a place soon Lara, once it is formed you will have access to some krypton technology"
Before the name Carol pressed her lips slightly in a thin line.
Lara.
The name his biological parents had given him.
She wasn't sure if she liked it or not, it was certainly disconcerting to be called that way.
"Once Daniel gets back I'll talk to him about choosing a place," something like what the crystal at the table could do was too important, it would be very helpful and helpful for Daniel, so waiting for him to come back and tell him was the best thing.
His mother's projection shriveled her eyebrows at the mention of Daniel.
"It's yours, it's your heritage, I don't see why you should wait for its return," his projected voice had a slight hint of rebuke and doubt.
Carol also wrinkled her eyebrows, her mother and Daniel, were not getting along as Carol would have wished.
The main problem was that Daniel didn't interact too much with Carol's birth mother.
He spent a lot of time doing his thing which was good for Carol.
That was the deal, right? He did his thing and she was fine with it.
Her mother didn't seem to share that opinion.
At least not since I let it out that I'd been telling her everything she told her, all the information and knowledge that she gave her.
She kept giving him knowledge or information but had been asking a lot about why he shared it with Daniel and what he wanted to do with that knowledge.
"I look forward to your return because it is important and I want you to help me choose the place"
Carol replied.
His mother narrowed her eyes slightly.
"Do you really trust him?" his question took her somewhat by surprise.
"of course I already told you," she told him when she first met her.
"I guess I didn't think that trust was so deep" his mother was also honest
"If you really trust him then I have nothing more to say" she looked into her eyes, Carol held her gaze.
"there is no one in this world I trust more" she replied.
The staring contest lasted a few seconds before her mother agreed to accept the fact.
"Okay, let's wait for him to come back," Carol smiled at his words.
"yes"
.
.
.
"The world is getting worse" Jonathan Kent pressed his lips in a fine line.
Concern filled his countenance completely.
The news that came every day only made him more nervous.
Ever since Defiant appeared the world seemed to have turned upside down.
Things that used to go unnoticed by people now attracted attention, rumors that seemed like stories were now revised again trying to find truth in them.
The world seemed to be waking up and realizing that the extraordinary was among them and the only reason they hadn't found out was because they hadn't looked hard enough.
And that worried the middle-aged farmer too much.
Jonathan wasn't sure if Carol's secret would be kept safe in the face of a world that was actively seeking the extraordinary.
"You must watch the news, it's bad for your health." Martha came to her husband's side, watched the television, smoke came from the top floor of a building and flying figures destroyed falling debris.
She denied and turned off the TV.
Your husband flaps his eyebrows at that.
"Stop worrying so much, Carol is no longer a girl, what we can do for her is increasingly limited, she has to forge her own path now" his wife always seemed wiser than him.
Jonathan remembered the date, Carol would soon be 18.
Martha was right what they could do for her had already been done, what would follow from here depended on Carol, she just wanted her daughter to choose the best option.

Note:
Chapter 23 Revelations has been rewritten from the middle down, if you have read it before September 14, 2023 you probably want to read it again.
I hope the fight wasn't boring, I really hit myself when I created such an annoying enemy to fight.
I had planned to go up more chapters but something came up, I don't have time to edit and translate them, doing that takes several hours probably go up one more chapter this week but I don't know when exactly.
