Chapter 3

Halloween Evening

Ok, you are all most likely wondering why i am being so secretive towards my Mom. The reason is that she doesn't usually like me going anywhere at night as you might've guessed when she said that i am 16 not 18. This was something i had felt i had to do tonight like almost a calling to make this comic happen. Going to the castle tonight will be the best for place for inspiration! I can see the story now... Weatherman comes across this old castle, when he enters he is swammed by the resident bats who live in the castle, then he comes across a room full of coffins and hears a vampiric voice calling out to him saying "I see you have meet my children!". This is going to be sooooo good! Keesha, Jyoti and i can study the bats behaviour (for Keesha and i once again) and look around the castle tonight to help us with the story. Its a shame that Tim couldn't be with us tonight as he is abroad, his artistic talent would have been great for the illustrations but luckily Jyoti very kindly said she will help with the pictures.

Evening was approaching and i have managed to get all my things that i need to take with me, torches, pens, notepad, water, snacks etc. During the day i was thinking about tonight and texted Keesha and Jyoti a new time to meet and decided that we all meet there instead of my place, 5pm meet at castle!. I then receive a text back from Keesha "Make up your mind Ralphie!" i then simply text her back saying "So we can watch how the castle changes when the sun is going down light to darkness!, she texts me back with a simple "Fine! Ok!". At least Jyoti's message back was just a simple "Cool! Make sure to bring lots of torches! See you there!". I knew what to tell Grandpa when i leave the house tonight. I'm just telling him that i am meeting Keesha and Jyoti down the street and still say that i'll be back at 9pm. I also thought about if he see's me, orginally i was going to attend Carlos's party as a vampire. Well i'll still put on my vampire costume but not the full costume. Just the fake fangs, cape (which luckily covers most of my body) and black shoes so i can easily take them off when i am no longer in site from Grandpa. No make up or hair gel in my hair but i did chose to leave my lucky red hat at home.

Its time, i am now in my half vampire costume and ready to meet Jyoti and Keesha at the castle. I've packed my backpack with everything i needed including lots of notepads and pens to write notes. Taking a deep breath i slowly walk down the stairs, i hear the TV glaring so loud. I had written a note and placed it on the kitchen bench for Grandpa in case he doesn't here me leave to tell him that i have gone out trick or treating with Keesha and Jyoti. Heading towards the front door, i shout out that i was leaving now and that i will be back by 9. Even with the TV on so loud, Grandpa still yelled out "Ok, have fun my boy". I slowly exit the front door and slightly slammed it so Grandpa could hear it. Finally! I was outside and the younger tricker or treaters were beginning their shifts. I went to grab my bike from the garage, jumped on it and began to cycle down the street as fast as i could, feeling the wind through my costume cape. I began to hear comments of little kids pointing out that there was a vampire cycling down the street. I smiled bearing my fake fangs that i had in my mouth "Wish i was a real vampire i'd be able to turn into a bat and fly towards the castle" i said to myself. I know reader, vampires are not real! Like the constent reminder i get from Keesha. I made it slightly out of town towards the lake where the castle was located.

The sun was beginning its desend and the air started to get cool, i hadn't noticed the full moon that was beginning to rise behind me. I see Keesha and Jyoti just outside the castle with their bicycles and in their Halloween costumes. Keesha dressed as a female professor and Jyoti a witch along with backpacks on their backs. As i got closer, the sound of the lake and bats squeaking could be heard. "You took your time Ralphie!" Keesha yells out to me with her arms folded as i park my bike with the others "Oh come on Keesh, i'm here on time for once! Its 4:30pm on the dot!" i answered back to her. Jyoti giggles "Now, now you too! The quicker we explore this castle and get what we need for the comic, the quicker we will be out of here and Ralphie's Grandpa will not suspect a thing!" she says to Keesha and I, "Are you scared Jyoti?" I ask her "No not at all, i'm just exctied to be doing this! So you say that the last time you both were here on a Field Trip right?" she asks as she walks towards the front doors. Keesha and i confirmed and told her that it was another one of Ms Frizzle's wacky Field Trips (Valerie Frizzle). We followed Jyoti to the old steel double doors, "So Ralphie, still think this place is haunted?" Keesha asks me "You remember that the bats in there are just normal mammals like you and me right? Not vampire bats!", "YES Keesha! I know not to fall for anything that's in a comic book or on a TV Show! I remember what we were taught on that Field Trip!" i firmly told her. The 3 of us stood in front of the large doors frozen like iceblocks in a ice mold at the doors began to open themsleves, i swallowed hard on some saliva and looked towards Keesha and Jyoti "Well, shall we enter?". "What's the matter Ralphie? Scared?" Keesha says as she was trying to tease me, "Lets!" Jyoti simply answers and goes ahead to enter. Gosh, that girl was fearless! Keesha and I soon follow into the dim hallway, little patches of the sunset was peering through the windows but it wasn't long until a swarm of bats come flying towards us! "Incoming!" i shout, we all duck to get out of the way as the bats flew out the door to go hunt. This was like the idea i had for the comic. It wasn't long until they had all flown away, i swear i felt some of them touch me even though i had ducked right to the ground. Then only slience could be heard.
