"Would you like some tea?" The god in front of Kyros said as he snapped his fingers and tea appeared literally out of nowhere, levitating in air.
"It is chai, with latte. I think you might like it. Also need it since it is also believed that it restarts the brain." The god said with a playful smirk as he gave the cup to Kyros, who calmly took a sip from it.
"Thank you, and you are?" The young lord said as he tried to be as respectful as possible. The being in front of him was a literal god and even if he wasn't part of the group that gave him powers, he still was more than likely strong enough to destroy him and all of the lands under his control with a snap of his finger.
"My I am hurt. Not realizing who I am even though you are following me along with lord Amun Ra and that scarlet dude Seth?" The god said with exaggerated sadness and smirked as Kyros' eyes widened.
"Thoth."
"That is right." The god of wisdom nodded his head with a smile.
The ibis god who saw the creation, created the three hundred and sixty five day calendar, taught mankind the language of hieroglyphs and held the knowledge to resurrect Osiris after his death at the hands of Seth. A god of wisdom that actually was helpful rather than turn innocents into monsters.
And Kyros was drinking tea with him. With a god. What was his life?
"Is there… a reason you are here?" Kyros asked, trying to be a bit more relaxed but still not sure how to act in fron of a god.
"Oh yeah, give me a second." Thoth said before his hand disappeared in the air and then came back with an orb in them.
"You're gonna need this soon." The god of wisdom said as he gave the orb to Kyros.
"And this is?" The young lord asked as he inspected the round crystal in his hand.
"It is a 'God Follower Decider', A GFD for short. When one of your followers put a hand on it, one of the gods of Ma'at shall answer and they will get the perks of being their follower." Thoth said proudly while Kyros was looking at the device with far more interest now.
"But why did YOU bring it to me? You could have just sent it and have make Zehuti give me a notice." Kyros said with a tilt of his head, finally somewhat used to the god of wisdom's presence.
"Zehuti, it was kinda nice that you named your system after me." Thoth smiled as he spoke. "But as of why I personally came down here, I wanted to see you that's all." The god shrugged at Kyros' unbelieving gaze.
"It isn't that far fetched. Among the gods of Ma'at I am the one who likes you humans the most. I still remember my first students whom I taught the hieroglyphs, and the ones I taught magic. So yeah, I wanted to see you and decided that this was a chance to do so." The god of wisdom said as he placed his hand on the back of his head with a carefree smile.
This was the truth, while the gods of Egypt treated the mankind definitely better than their Greek counterparts did, excluding a small episode of anger where Ra created Sekhmet and let her go wild on humanity, but even then they were less benevolent and more neutral. Most of their interactions were done through using Pharaohs as their avatars.
But Thoth was different.
He was one of the oldest gods, he had came out of the chaotic waters of the universe much like Ra himself, along with the other first generation of gods. He had watched as the waters stilled and then took shape, as the creation began he was there. Among the gods, he alone understood what was happening at the start, he was the one who learned how to decipher all nature and turn it into words. For all intents and purposes, Thoth should have been an arrogant god who saw mortals and even some of the other gods as beings below his notice.
But he didn't.
Instead he walked among the mortals. He taught them how to write, to discern plants from one another, how to prepare medicine, diplomacy and even magic.
In many ways he was the Prometheus of Egypt who was not punished and did what he did genuinely for helping rather than pissing off the other gods.
"Thank you." Kyros bowed his head, actually feeling grateful for the god in front of him.
"Now now, don't do that. You are a pharaoh now! Pharaohs shouldn't bow so easily!" Thoth said as he laughed merrily before getting up.
"Anyway, I think I overstayed already so I shall take my leave and you should prepare to welcome your new servants."Thoth said before a frown appeared on his face. "I really hope you treat them well, we don't need another Moses incident no matter how unlikely such a thing is in this world." Thoth said as he wagged his finger playfully.
"Also, just a little piece of advice. When you try to learn the magics of Amun Ra, do NOT think him simply as a sun god. Remember well that he is the pharaoh of heavens." Thoth said and prepared to leave but before he could Kyros asked a question.
"Lord Thoth, Zehuti said that the gods of Ma'at wanted demi humans to be treated better, for me to help them. Is there a specific reason for that?" Kyros asked and Thoth answered with a serious expression.
"There are several reasons, firstly them being humanoids with animal features mean that they are, at least physically, similar to us. So the fact that people would abuse those who are similar to us somewhat pisses us off. Also, this might surprise you but even gods can learn." At that Thoth grimaced as if he had eaten something sour.
"Unlike Olympians who never had to deal with some apocalyptic event from outside, the situation we had with Moses have, for a lack of better term, humbled us. It showed that our actions have consequences. So, we decided that the guy who is our champion being in a country with high level of discrimination made us decide that him doing some nice things about it would be... nice." Thoth shrugged with a goofy smile on his face.
"I understand." Kyros nodded, satisfied with the answer he had gotten.
"Well then, see ya!" And then Thoth disappeared with a flash.
Then Kyros went towards his door, knowing that he had much to do.
