Marceline lost track of time after her last class of the day, she had gotten into a conversation with her band mate Keila, who was taking the same English class as her. They'd been discussing lyrics for a song they were writing. When Marceline noticed the time she immediately pulled her phone out to see three missed calls from Ash. She told her friend that she had to go and began rushing to her car and trying to call Ash back. On the fourth ring he picked up.
"Marcy! Where are you?" He said. She could tell he wasn't too happy with her.
"Ash! Baby! I'm so sorry I was talking with Keila and I just lost track of time." She was in the process of unlocking her car, but the car was not in the mood to listen to her.
"You said you were going to make dinner tonight. Ash is hungies!"
Marceline rolled her eyes at his arrogance, jiggling her key in the keyhole until it turned.
"Okay, I'll be home in a bit. I'm kind of tired though, can I just pick something up on the way?"
Ash whined "Awww but baby, you promised you'd make me salmon? You can't just promise me something and change your mind! That would make me feel like you're a liar."
Marceline snarled, but took a deep breath. "Fine. I'll be home soon." Marcy could hear him smile over the phone
"Good. Oh! Also I drank our last redbull, you'll have to replace them tomorrow! Thanks pookie-wookie-bear, kisses!" He hung up the phone before she could even respond. Marceline groaned and hit her head against her steering wheel.
"Why am I even fucking dating him." She thought to herself then quickly shook it out of her head. She began the drive home thinking of what sides to put with the salmon and realizing she didn't have anything. Ash had a decent amount of food that she could use as a side, but he didn't allow her to use any of "his" food when she made dinner for the both of them. She decided to make a pit stop at a local grocery store chain, Goosey's, and just pick up some rice-a-roni and some frozen vegetables. She sent Ash a text while walking in and headed to the back. She stood in front of the wall of boxed rice, deciding which flavor would go best with the fish when she heard her name being called and footsteps heading to her.
"Marceline! Hey! Marceline!" Once she looked up she was able to put a face to the voice. Finn was running towards her with Jake following close behind. Once they got closer Finn held his fist out for a knuckle bump, which Marceline reciprocated. "What's up? What are you doing here?"
"Well, I am in a grocery store…" She held the box of rice up a little and smirked at the boy.
"Oh, right. That makes sense." Finn rubbed the back of his neck with an embarrassed laugh. "Have you met my brother Jake yet?" He motioned towards him.
Marceline waved and said "Not formally, but I did kind of eavesdrop on a conversation or two." Finn laughed but Jake furrowed his eyebrows so slightly Marceline barely noticed. "Not on purpose of course." She lied.
Jake laughed "Oh okay good I was a little worried for a second! But anyway, It was good to see you, I've got to head home to my lady before she goes nuts."
"Oh same here. If I'm not home in five minutes my boyfriend is going to go apeshit.
Finn and Jake frowned. "Aw man, Bonnie was hoping-" Finn was cut off by Jake elbowing him in the side.
"Well, see you Monday Marceline!" Jake pulled Finn away quickly, leaving Marceline to wonder about what Bonnie was hoping.
Marceline arrived at their apartment shortly after. Their apartment was only on the second floor, so she didn't have to walk far. Once she entered the apartment she said a greeting to her boyfriend who was not on the couch where he usually is. He came out from the bedroom and crossed his arms.
"Where were you?" He said angrily.
Marceline held up the bag of frozen broccoli and rice-a-roni. "I had to stop at the store, I texted you."
"Stop lying." Ash flipped his far too long platnum mowhawk out of his eyes "I know you were with Bongo."
Marceline laughed incredulously "I'm sorry, what?" She dropped the grocery bag on the floor. "Bongo? He's my fucking band mate, how many times do we have to have this conversation?" She pushed past Ash to put her backpack on the couch.
"As many times as we have to for you to stop fucking him." Ash glared at her.
Marceline whipped around to face him "I'm no- Ash he's not even in the U.S. right now he's visiting his family!"
"Well then, who are you fucking?" He shouted at her
"What the FUCK!" Marceline threw her hands up and was yelling back at this point "You have my fucking location on! You think I'm gonna be getting fucked in the middle of Goosey's? Oh yeah babe that feels good, hold on let me just see if this watermelon is ripe yet." She said in a mocking tone.
Ash furrowed his eyebrows and got closer to her "Don't you fucking patronize me bitch."
"I'LL PATRONIZE YOU ALL I WANT ASSHOLE! MAKE YOUR OWN FUCKING SALMON!" She stomped into the bedroom and grabbed her bass, picked up her backpack and headed towards the door.
Ash rushed in front of the door and stopped her in her tracks. "Baby, no don't leave! I'm just hungry, let's just calm down and have a nice dinner together. I'm not eating without you." He put his hands on her shoulders, which Marceline promptly shoved off.
"Fucking starve then." She pushed against him and left the apartment. As soon as she got in her car she pulled out her phone and texted Keila.
Marceline: hey kei, can i stay over tonight. Ash-hole and i got in a fight again.
Marceline stared at her phone for a few minutes waiting for a response, but she didn't receive one. She racked her brain for who she could stay the night with. Her Dad crossed her mind but that idea was shooed away as fast as it came. Bongo was in Mexico with his family and Guy… well, Guy was gross. She knew where she could stay, but she didn't want to be scolded again. She sighed and dialed the number, slowly reversing from her parking spot.
