A/N: This takes place on the Sonic Boom episode: Knuck-Knuck! Who's there?! Rather than shrugging just after Knuckles ran off crying, he runs after him but Knuckles says something he may regret later.
Sonic walks to him as Knuckles was on the way 'home' with dinner. "Hey Knuckles what's up?" Sonic greeted as he walks to him. "Oh just picking up dinner for my family, went to that new falafel place. It got stellar reviews on Eggman's food blog. But enough chit chat, Charlie and Belinda are waiting." Knuckles said happily while walking with the food. Alarmed by those names, Sonic stopped. "Charlie and Belinda?!" Sonic asked in shock as Knuckles turn to him. "But their villains! They try to destroy you!" Sonic said with a alarming but stern tone.
Knuckles gasped in shocked. "How dare you use facts to besmirch my family." Knuckles said offensively. "A family that has loved and taken care of me in the past 22 in a half hours." Knuckles said 'on the verge of tears' as he gasped. "Your a heartless monster!" Knuckles said in an upset tone before he threw the bag and ran away crying.
"Wait!" Sonic shouted as he ran after him as he picked up the bag. Knuckles stopped as he turn to him. "What do you want now you, big royal pain?!" Knuckles blabbed out loud. "Knuckles, not so loud, someone would hear you." Sonic protested quietly just after shushing him.
Then things got a little bad between them. "Knux, you know it's true, Charlie tried to destroy you all because you ruined his life. Even though, you didn't mean too." Sonic said with a little serious tone.
"But he's showing that he's a good person Sonic no matter how bad they are." Knuckles said 'defending Charlie and Belinda'
"But this is possibly a plan to hurt you. You know I'm right." Sonic said. Getting frustrated.
"Ugh. I wouldn't expect you to understand my situation Sonic. You actually have a family. Not just two loving parents but you have an older brother and sister that looked after you. To top it off, you spend your life in a palace far away from here." Knuckles said in a upset tone.
Sonic wasn't so happy about what he said.
"Knuckles! Do not bring that up. That has nothing to do with this." Sonic said with an offensive tone.
"Oh it has everything to do with this! It's obvious that you think for one minute that I can't have a family like Charlie and Belinda yet you have a 'Perfect life'." Knuckles said without hesitation.
"Knux! I'm telling you right now. They're really going to hurt you. My guess is that they're using your vulnerability's to their advantage. They're villains they don't care about anyone but themselves..." Sonic said getting more frustrated. But Knuckles interrupted him.
"STOP USING FACTS TO SHAME MY FAMILY SONIC! YOUR MORE THAN A HEARTLESS MONSTER YOUR A ROYAL COLD HEARTED BRAT! I HAD ENOUGH OF YOU KEEPING YOUR EYES ON ME LIKE I'M A FREAKING CHILD! MAYBE YOU SHOULDA STAYED AT THE PALACE WHERE YOU BELONG! YOU DON'T EVEN BELONG HERE SONIC! I SWEAR I WISH YOU WOULD JUST GO HOME TO YOUR CASTLE!!! JUST SO I DON'T HAFT TO DEAL WITH A COCKY, AMATEUR, HEARTLESS BRAT LIKE YOU!" Knuckles shouted angrily in tears. Sonic was in shock and deeply hurt as his eyes widened.
Knuckles huffs in satisfaction and runs off. Failing to see what he started.
Sonic didn't know how to process what he just said. He felt his head and closed his eyes tightly. He was hearing voices in his head all at once.
First voice: What kind of prince wants to go as he pleases?
Second voice: How should I know? He's not like his older brother. That's for sure.
First voice: Yeah, a prince is supposed to be defending his kingdom not run around the world.
Second voice: Why can't he be more like his brother?
Third voice: That's what I thought too. The kid shoulda stayed with his mother and father.
Fourth voice: Ha! He should be more mature like his sister. What good is he if he can't take things seriously?
Seventh voice: Obviously he shoulda been more serious like his father.
Fifth voice: He maybe a prince but come on he is such a disgrace.
Sixth voice: Some child of a Queen he turned out to be.
These voices got louder and louder as Sonic started to cry and scream.
"SHUT UP!" Sonic shouted as the voices halted. He was in tears as he was heavily breathing.
"It's not true. It's not true." Sonic muttered.
"Hey Sonic, are you feeling okay? I can heard you screaming" A familiar voice said in concern.
Sonic turn to see Tails with worry. Sonics tears were visible. But Sonic wipe them off.
"I-I'm fine. I'm just feeling..." Sonic said but he trailed off with sorrow. Thinking Knuckles was right. He doesn't belong on the island or this village.
He just arrived at Charlie and Belinda's house and sat down with a pouty face.
"Knuckles dear, what's bothering you?" Belinda asked in concern.
"Sonic said you guys are villains. Honestly he doesn't even belong here." Knuckles answered her.
"I think it's time for the talk." Belinda said to Charlie.
"Wait what did he mean by 'He doesn't belong here?" Belinda muttered in a question in confusion.
Charlie sat down and Knuckles sat on his lap 'causing his legs to be shattered.
"You see, we are villains but that doesn't make up bad people." Charlie explained.
"Well technically it does." Belinda corrected him.
"But we took you in when no one else would. And if you wanna continue being part of this family, then you will haft to be a villain too." Belinda said to Knuckles as he looked down.
Sonic and his friends were walking all the way from that new falafel place.
"Ugh, if I don't eat Baba Ghanoush again, it would be too soon." Sonic said as he placed a hand on his stomach.
Suddenly a laser was shot at them but they dodged it.
They saw Charlie laughing with Knuckles by his side.
"Sorry guys, nothing too personal but family comes first." Knuckles said before he started to fight his own friends.
At the same moment Knuckles was fighting Amy and Sticks. Sonic twitched as the voices came back. Louder than before. He closed his eyes tight.
Voice one: If you want to prove yourself worthy. Then be serious and make your father proud!
Voice three: fulfill your destiny!
Voice two: Face your enemies as your brother does. You are prepared to be, who your meant to be. Prince Maurice Olgivie Hedgehog.
Sonic opened his eyes with a hateful gleam in his emerald green eyes. No doubt the voices got into his mind.
When Knuckles started to fight Sonic, he didn't hesitate to beat him.
In tears Sonic spindashed him on the face twice as he howled angrily.
"Hey, quit it!" Tails shouted. "No can do Tails! He's a traitor!" Sonic said as he spindashed him in the stomach.
"Is he okay?" Amy asked. "I dunno." Sticks answered as she shrugged.
Sonic and Knuckles fought real badly. Sonic was bruised but he didn't care, he kept fighting Knuckles really seriously.
That's when they face their attention on Charlie and had him defeated. But Knuckles punch the ground to stun them (but Sonic landed on his feet). He freed Charlie by the net and they continued fighting.
"Come on Knuckles, step aside. We're not gonna fight you." Tails said.
"But I would." Sonic muttered to himself as he wiped the blood off of his lip.
Belinda sees this as an opportunity to use Knuckles as a human shield as she told her husband to use him as a human shield.
That's when Charlie did. Knuckles was really fond of Charlie and Belinda's affection towards him for one day.
So he thought. But when Sonic spindashed towards him, he picked up Knuckles and blocked him. But Sonic didn't hesitate to hit him hard.
"Ow! Sonic not cool!" Knuckles said.
"Oh can it you rat!" Sonic said with a mixture of hurt and anger.
"Charlie, I'm not sure this is how families treat each other." Knuckles said as Charlie squeezed him a little.
"You idiot. We're not family. Are you so dense that you don't know when someone is taking advantage of you?" Charlie said while getting irritated.
"Hmm, it gives me something to think about." Knuckles said with his hand on his chin.
"But I don't like thinking, I like smashing." Knuckles said, before flipping Charlie over. The team defeated Charlie once again. But Sonic wasn't satisfied.
"Kids, you teach them right from wrong and they just disappoint you. By picking right." Charlie said as he gets out of his damaged mech suit. Belinda helped him and they ran away.
"OH NO YOU DON'T!!" Sonic shouted as he spindashed Charlie and broke his arm.
"Ow! Hey you broke my arm!" Charlie shouted as he felt his broken arm. But that's when Sonic beats him up really badly as he screamed.
"Okay! Stop! Enough! You win! Please stop!" Charlie begged with a bloody nose, broken glasses, and bruises. Belinda helped him up and dusts him off.
"What got into him?" Belinda asked in concern.
"Probably in a bad mood. Now can you take me to the doctor cupcake?" Charlie asked before Belinda agreed to take him to the doctor.
"Great to have you back Knuckles." Tails said. "Sorry guys, I shoulda realized I had a family all along, Charlie and Belinda. No no wait. It's in the tip of my tongue." Knuckles said with honesty.
"What's it say?" Knuckles said as he stick his tongue.
"We're your family Knuckles." Amy said with compassion.
The group hugged as they Aww. Knuckles was happy about it.
However. He noticed someone wasn't hugging. He counted his teammates and sees Sonic wasn't hugging in the group.
"Uhh Wheres Sonic?" Knuckles asked in confusion. The group broke the hug as they looked around. That's when Knuckles spotted him covering his face and hugging his knees on the bench. Knuckles felt a little bad before he walked to him.
Once Knuckles reached to him, Sonic stood up and looked down with tears in his eyes.
"What? No I told you so?" Knuckles asked in confusion. Sonic said nothing and looked away from him as he sniffed.
"Okay maybe I do owe you an apolo.." Knuckles said but he got cut off when Sonic snapped.
"THE ONLY THING YOU OWE ME IS A TRIP BACK HOME TO MOBOTROPOLIS!!" Sonic shouted in tears. Knuckles jaw dropped with shock.
Sonic sniffed and shook while the voices in his head were whispers. Staring down at him like he was Scourge The Hedgehog.
"Whoa dude. Calm down I know I called you a heartless monster. Now bring it in Sonic." Knuckles said as he was gonna hug him.
But Sonic stepped back as Knuckles try to walk to him and hug him.
"Come on Sonic, bring it in." Knuckles said trying to be nice.
"NO!" Sonic said in tears.
"Oh come on I'm trying to apologize to you and your acting stubborn!" Knuckles said with a little frustration.
"APOLOGIZE FOR WHAT?! CALLING ME A HEARTLESS MONSTER OR SAYING THAT I DON'T BELONG HERE?! YOU SAID IT YOURSELF YOU DON'T WANNA BE NEAR A ROYAL BRAT LIKE ME!" Sonic shouted in hurt and hatred mixed together.
Knuckles gasped as his eyes widened. Charlie and Belinda 'who got back from the doctor', Mrs. Vandersnout and Dave stopped and looked at them.
Sonic sobbed with heartache. Knuckles was confused about this at first with a raised brow.
"MANIC! I WANNA GO HOME!" Sonic shouted as he sobbed in tears before running away as he cried.
A few of the villagers were looking at each other while muttering.
"Oh dear. What gotten into the poor kid?" Mrs. Vandersnout asked in concern.
Knuckles thought back to their argument. Before he gasped with his eyes widened. "I HAD ENOUGH OF YOU KEEPING YOUR EYES ON ME LIKE I'M A FREAKING CHILD! MAYBE YOU SHOULDA STAYED AT THE PALACE WHERE YOU BELONG! YOU DON'T EVEN BELONG HERE SONIC! I SWEAR I WISH YOU WOULD JUST GO HOME TO YOUR CASTLE!!! JUST SO I DON'T HAFT TO DEAL WITH A COCKY, AMATEUR, HEARTLESS BRAT LIKE YOU!" His own voice said in his head as he gasped while the words echoed in his head.
"Oh no! Manic is going to kill me!" Knuckles said with panic as he placed his hands on his head.
"Sonic wait! I didn't mean any of that!" Knuckles shouted as he ran after Sonic.
"Who's Manic?" Charlie asked. "You don't wanna know!" Eggman answered his question while walking passed them.
Once Knuckles arrived at Sonics shack, he sees Sonic feeling super depressed and hateful. He was laying on the hammock crying super hard.
Knuckles felt bad as he looked down. Sonic hears his footsteps and looked up in hatred and depression. "What do you want? Can't you see I wanna be alone?" Sonic said before he started crying on the floor.
"Oh Sonic, I-I-I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you I-I was just angry. Im also sorry for not listening to you and calling you a heartless monster. Look I didn't mean what I said to you. I actually want you to..." Knuckles said with guilt and panic mixed together.
"No Knux. Your right. I don't belong here. I'm just a cowardly prince running away from his true destiny. Maybe I shoulda been more like my brother, mature like my sister, and serious like my father. Maybe I shoulda stayed with my Mother." Sonic said with a mixture of tears and sniffs.
"Maybe I should just go home to mobotropolis." Sonic suggested before Knuckles held him close as Sonics eyes widened.
"Please don't go. I'm sorry. I really am, my angel." Knuckles said with concern and guilt while he held him tight and cried in guilt.
"Angel?" Sonic thought in his mind. "Listen, I never meant what I said. I'm not ready for you to go. I never knew who my family was until after the battle against Charlie." Knuckles said while holding the blue hedgehog in his arms.
Sonic started crying in Knuckles arms.
"To be honest, I rather have you look after me than you going home to your castle." Knuckles said with a little sadness.
"Why? A prince in secret like me doesn't belong here y oh said it yourself." Sonic said in sadness.
"Oh Sonic. I never mean to say that. To me, you belong here with me. I mean, I like you." Knuckles said with a blush.
"Huh? What do you mean like me?" Sonic asked as he sniffed as they broke the hug.
"I mean I.. I like you 'like you'. I love you!" Knuckles said as he blurted out. Sonic sniffed and felt his tears falling down while blushing.
"Listen. I mean, yeah it was a mistake to listen to Charlie and Belinda but I rather be with you than those two." Knuckles said while wiping his tears.
"Oh Knux..." Sonic said softly. He didn't know what to say. Sonic was a little flattered. Though he didn't what to do.
"Look. You maybe a hedgehog prince from mobotropolis and I'm a echidna guy from Angel Island. But it doesn't matter. No matter how different we are. I want you to be by my side." Knuckles said with a blush.
What he said was beautiful and true. They can be by each other's side no matter what they are. Sonic felt it moving as he smiled and sniffed.
"That's beautiful Knux. I felt choked up listening to that." Sonic said trying not to show his mushy side but failed.
"So what do you say my blue Angel? Can we forget this and get some lunch at Meh Burger together?" Knuckles asked.
"Only if you want to be my secret boyfriend. To be honest. I like you too Knux. I just don't show it." Sonic confessed as he blushed.
The red echidna smiled knowing Sonic felt the same way.
The two walked to Meh Burger hand in hand. The two had dated in secret since. To the public he hangs out with Amy and the others but in secret Sonic and Knuckles date without showing the villagers seeing the signs. They make out in Sonics shack without anyone knowing. Things between them are lovely and peaceful.
