After a few weeks, Olly was doing better and joked to Mario a few times that his jumping had been "1-upped" by the king. Mario thought it was funny until Luigi joined into the joke as well. Olly found Olivia outside, poking at an over-sized egg with a stick. The white egg was splattered with light blue spots.
"What are you doing? Mario was going to take us to the Water Vellumental today for questioning. You said Mani raised the Water Vellumental, right?" Olly tilted his head, his gaze wandering to the egg. "What is that?"
Olivia shrugged, her shoulders falling heavily. "Also, the water Vellumental's name is Lemon. It looks like an egg of sorts?"
Olly lifted it, Olivia moving from her crouched position. "Do you think it's edible?"
"Really, Olly? You're thinking about food now?"
Olly chuckled to himself. "Maybe scrambled...?"
A crack appeared on the egg as Olly held it, startling the twins.
"Weh?!" Olly exclaimed.
"Huh?!" Olivia gasped.
More cracks appeared, Olly flinching and beginning to panic.
"Aah! It's alive! I'm not ready for that kind of commitment! But I can't just drop it now, can't I?!"
Olivia took it from him and placed it on the ground. "There! See? It's an easy fix!"
The twins crouched down, watching the creature create more cracks on the egg. Luigi had just exited the house and saw the two staring at something. He walked back inside.
"What do you think it is?" Olivia asked. "A bird?"
"A dragon," Olly exclaimed, rather excited.
A light blue reptile-like creature stuck its head through the egg shell, the giant nose being poked right away by Olivia.
"Haha, boop!"
"Uhh...what is that supposed to be?" Olly asked, disgusted. "It's not a dragon..."
"Olly, you can fold a dragon. You don't need to raise one."
"I still thought it would be cool..." Olly wiped the egg shell of the reptile's head. "There you go, little guy." He giggled softly. "He's kind of cute-"
"Who says it's male?" Olivia asked, clearly insulted. "It could be a girl for all we know!"
The creature stared between the two as they bickered over it. Luigi was watching through the window when Mario came over to his brother.
"What are they-a doing?"
Luigi shrugged. Mario exited the house, Luigi following.
"What are you-a doing?"
Olly turned, holding the creature. "We're cursed to be parents now...I could take care of the Folded Soldiers, so I think I can do this. I'm not sure about Olivia though. I don't think she can even keep a houseplant alive much less a lizard."
Olivia gasped and snatched the reptile from her brother. "So rude! He's going to turn into a brat because of you!"
Olly took it back. "It saw me first, I'm its parent!"
Olivia did the same. "Well at least I can be nice!"
"I can be nice! I'm nice to you!"
"Stop, stop, stop." Luigi grabbed it from the twins. "One, this is a Yoshi. Two, you are both too-a young to raise something anyways, so why do you-a care?"
Both the twins huffed, facing away from each other.
"Livi's the rude one. Why won't she just give me a chance?"
"You're the rude one," she shot back. "You DID try to kill me with a rock."
"A few weeks ago. I'm a changed origami creation. Why are you too stubborn to see that?"
"Maybe because you killed two Folded Soldiers by throwing them off a bridge?"
Olly tapped his chin. "Oh, I did do that. I'd forgotten about that."
Olivia sighed, then faced him. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have argued with you. You are older than me, even if it's only by an hour or so; and a lot more mentally mature than me. I should try to listen to you more..." She fiddled with her hands.
Olly rubbed the back of his head. "Me too...You are sweet and forgiving like I can't seem to be. I guess this is kind of my fault..."
Luigi smiled at them and handed the Yoshi to Olly. "Share the Yoshi, and be-a careful please!"
Olly returned the smile. "Yoshi. Such a silly name. How about uh...Shoot, I'm terrible with names."
"Bluey!" Olivia suggested.
"But it's light blue...Hmm..." Olly muttered to himself for a minute before smiling at his sister. "Skye. That's it! A sky blue Yoshi named to match!"
"Yay! She has a name!"
Olly nodded. "Alright, Mario. We can leave now."
Mario and Luigi had to take a long kart ride there, but they had made it within two hours at least. Mario slid out the kart and helped Olly out. He didn't want anything to do with karts anymore after the crash, and Mario had to force him onto it at first.
"Lemon! We're coming in, okay? Don't get upset, please!" Olivia smiled at Olly. "I think she'll understand."
"If you say so..." Olivia held his hand as they entered. He was clearly unsure, and holding his hand last time had helped.
They stopped, Mario and Luigi following the entire way, at the circular arena at the end of the shrine.
Olivia waved to nobody in particular. "Leeemoooon! I'm baaaack!"
A shadow moved from one of the upper levels that was unreachable from the ground floor. It increased in size as it charged towards them. Her scales reflected the light, shimmering like water. Gold bangles wrapped around her neck near the base as her head, along with her wrists and near the end of her tail. Her eyes were a piercing golden yellow.
"I thought I told you to stay away, Olly!"
"Um..."
Her gaze went to Olivia. "Oh, hello again. Wait...You brought him here?"
Olivia nodded. "He's my brother. Anywho, we need your help!"
"With what? Did your...BROTHER...drain the lake again?"
Olly shuddered.
"No, we found this weird book. Apparently, Olly can't understand most of it, just some."
She inched closer, her tail wrapping around him. "Hmm...part Ancient One? That's rare, very rare..." She back off, the pointed end of her tail brushing past him and knocking off his crown.
"You're not making any sense," Olly said as he replaced his crown.
"I'll help you, but only Olly can enter."
"What? Why?"
"It feeds off of power. Olivia's simply not powerful enough to remain within this story for long enough. It'll be easier if I only send you."
"Huh...?" Olivia asked. "You lost me."
"Same," Olly admitted.
"I know a technique. It was taught to me by Mani, who raised me."
"That's actually what we're here about!" Olivia exclaimed.
"I know. Show me the book."
Olly brought out the book and handed it to her. She motioned him to place it on the ground, so he complied. She closed her eyes, focusing.
"Olly, I don't like you, but you wish to know." She sighed. "Summon your Magic Circle."
"How'd you-"
"Don't make me lose my focus, brat!" She growled, teeth bore. "Just do as I say or you won't see it at all!"
Olly looked at his sister. "Livi..."
"I'll be fine! This'll be great!"
Olly closed his eyes and summoned his Magic Circle.
"Without our magic," Lemon snapped. "Use your own, and only your own!"
"But I can't-"
"She can, and she's weaker than you! Figure it out!"
Olly sighed. "Here goes..."
He made the other vanish and focused on Fold of Life. It felt so weak by itself; Olly didn't think he could.
"I can't really feel it..."
Lemon opened her eyes, huffing steam from her nose. "You idiot." She came over and touched a hand to his face.
"I can't really breathe..."
"Shut. Focus. You'll find it. I'll help, since you're being held back by your own mind and heart."
Olly lifted her hand from his face. "You're not making any sense. Blocking my own power? Can I even do that?"
She glared at him. "Yes. It's possible to refrain yourself from reaching your full potential. You don't wish to hurt anyone again, so you're holding yourself back." She replaced her hand on his face, this time only a clawed finger.
Her eyes began glowing blue, Olly's joining in with purple.
"Wait, are you sure this is a good idea? I mean, I did fold you last time-and reality for that matter-and we don't know HOW strong I am. Do you really want to risk this?"
She raised her brow, annoyed; still silent.
"R-right. Oops..."
"His eyes are glowing again," Olivia said to Mario as he came to join her.
"Yeah, I-a wonder what that's about."
"Is it natural for his eyes to-a glow," Luigi questioned.
"I think so," Olivia said. "It happened a few times when he was evil. I wonder..."
"What is it?" Mario asked.
"I wonder if it glows when he uses really powerful magic. Didn't my eyes glow yellow for a moment when I summoned that Magic Circle?"
"You glew," Mario corrected. "And-a Bowser's eyes did too. You glew yellow like Olly did when he-a lifted the castle."
"But the Water Vellumental's are too," Luigi pointed out.
"She called Olly an Ancient One. Well, part. I wonder if it has to do with the White Toads on Shangri Sp-Aah!"
"What is it?" Luigi asked, worried.
"That's where we should go! Shangri Spa! They knew about Kaaptan Teeowed, so why wouldn't they know about Mani and Sandi? Or that book?"
Olly began glowing purple, screaming.
"No, no! Stop! This hurts!" He attempted to take her hand from his head, but she sat still like stone. "Lemon...! St-stop!"
"You're almost there. Remain calm."
Olly froze. "I don't like this anymore...!"
"Olly?!" Olivia attempted after her brother, being stopped from Mario.
"We should-a trust her. She knows-a what she's-a doing."
Olly's face had turned into a dark purple, eyes still glowing.
"What's wrong with him?!" Olivia demanded.
"Tainted magic. I need to get rid of that first before he can use his abilities properly."
"But you're hurting him!"
She shook her head, eye contact never leaving Olly. "No, purifying. It only hurts because he's so used to it. It's only the tainted magic that's hurting him."
"How do you know?"
She removed her claw. "Because I had to do it once before. I made sure I fully understood that ability before using it to make sure I didn't hurt anyone." Her tail curled to block her feet as she sat, watching Olly. "Three, two, one..."
Olly fell to the ground, his face back to its usual pale color. "Uhg..."
"Olly!" Olivia rushed over. "Ooh...Please tell me you're okay!"
"Wh-why'd...you help me...?"
Lemon smiled. "You kind of remind me of Mani's sister."
Olivia helped Olly from the ground. "Sister? Mani had a sister?"
She nodded. "Sandi, I believe it was?"
"I KNEW IT!" Olivia cheered. "Well, I didn't know she was Sandi's sister..." She snickered. "People think you're a girl, brother."
"Don't start this back up again!"
Lemon's smile faded. "It'll take a while for your energy to recover. Apologies, it's been years since I've had to do that..."
Olly shook his head, smiling. "Don't be. I didn't realize I was doing that anyways...so I guess this is better than not having my full power tamed." Olly stumbled. "First my legs, now this. When can I get a break?"
"Never," Mario joked, straight-faced.
"That doesn't help any!"
The Mario Brothers burst into laughter. "I was-a only joking!"
Luigi's laughter died when he saw the glare Olly was giving them. "You have to-a liven up a little."
Mario's did as well. "Yeah...So you-a wanted to go to Shangri Spa?"
"Wait, we're leaving?" Olly asked, tilting his head.
"We have a different lead!" Olivia said. "A better one! We need to head to Shangri Spa...and not for the baths this time..."
"Maybe we might be able to sneak one in while Mario and Luigi aren't looking," Olly suggested.
"Olly!" She playfully shoved him. "You're just as bad about them as I am!"
"I've never felt so relaxed before in my life...Aahh, I'm getting warm just thinking about them."
"Stop joking about that!"
"Alright, if you insist..."
"Farewell, Origami Folk! I'll keep watch of your book if you ever wish to return! I'm still open to sending you inside the pages!" She walked in a circle around the book on the ground. "I'll see if I can read it. You two are so curious indeed..."
