Part 3
Jules starts pacing back and forth in the kitchen Eventually nausea takes over and she runs to the bathroom and throws up.
Sam follows behind her with a wet rag and holds her long brown hair back while rubbing circles on her back.
When she was finished she sat down on the floor back against the wall.
Sam hands Jules a napkin and she wipes her mouth. He then puts the wet washcloth on her forehead
Jules: thanks (she smiled weakly)
Sam: talk to me Jules..what's going on?
Jules: What are you talking about Sam?
Sam: don't profile me. And don't try to change the subject. Something is wrong. Something is going on with you. You have been throwing up for days. This isn't normal.
Jules, what aren't you telling me?
Jules: sam, can we not do this now? please.
Sam: then when Jules. Huh? You won't talk to me. You refuse to talk to anyone at work.
Jules: sam please, not right now. (Her face was turning pale) Sam...stop it
Sam: come on Jules.
Jules threw up 3 more times
Sam: Jules...
Jules was embarrassed and now in tears and upset with Sam
Sam: Jules I'm so sorry.
Jules: I'm fine just leave me alone. Jules cleaned herself up and brushed her teeth and went to bed.
Sam felt awful for talking to Jules like he did and for upsetting her.
He was just really concerned and wished she would talk to him. He cleans up downstairs and then goes to check on Jules. She was asleep on top of the made bed. He grabs a blanket and lays it on her and kisses her head. He decides to sleep in the guest room for the night bc of the earlier incident.
Sam looks at the clock and it says 915pm. He decided to call Ed
Hey Ed, sorry it's so late.
Ed: it's ok. What's up? Is everything ok? Is everyone ok?
Sam: I was just wondering if Sophie talked to Jules tonight
Ed: of course they talked
Sam: no I mean talk. Did Jules mention anything to her about what may be going on? I don't know why Jules won't talk to me. I did make her upset earlier tho
Ed: look Sam Jules will talk to you. She just has to come around. And another thing Sophie never tells me what is discussed. It's girl code man. You don't break the girl code.
Sam: you're right. I'm sorry for putting you on the spot.
Ed: hey sam Sophie wants to talk to you.
Sam(surprised) ok.
Sophie: hey sam
Sam: Hi Sophie, I'm sorry it's so late
Sophie: it's fine. Look let me give you some advice about Jules.
Sam: ok I'm listening
Sophie: trust her. Trust that she will tell you what's going on. Be patient with her and just listen to her no matter what it's about make sure you listen to her ok.
Sam: ok. Anything else?
Sophie: yeah make sure you stay close to the house tomorrow ok. And don't ever ask me to break the girl code again.
Sam: ok. Thanks, Sophie. And don't worry I won't.
Ed: goodnight Sam.
Sam: night.
Ed: So I guess he doesnt know shes pregnant
Sophie:Yeah,..wait how'd you know?
Ed: Sophie, I saw Jules get sick today and she's passed out, she's distracted and moody. All out of character for Jules.
Sophie: You saw the box in the trash can didnt you?
Ed: Yeah that too.
Sophie: You can't say anything to anyone. You have to let her tell you.
Ed: I don't know if I can do that. It's dangerous having her out there and if something were to happen to her I would never forgive myself for not making sure she was behind a desk.
Sam lays down. He tries to sleep but can't.
He starts cleaning downstairs. He ends up rearranging the pantry, cleaning the refrigerator, the microwave, the bathroom, sweeping, and mopping. Doing the dishes, he straightened up every cabinet and drawer. He does some laundry and throws away all the expired food.
He finishes and puts everything away. He goes back upstairs and is finally able to go to sleep around 2 am.
Jules wakes up suddenly
She wasn't sure what caused her to wake up so abruptly. So she walks downstairs to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water.
She notices it looks different so she turns on the light. The kitchen was spotless. The living room was spotless and all the laundry was washed, dried, and folded.
She opens the pantry and sees everything organized.
She starts to tear up because Sam had done all this and she knew she couldn't stay mad at him.
She goes back upstairs after turning out the lights and goes into the guest room and sees sam asleep.
She walks to the bed and gently kisses him on the head.
Sam stirs and opens his eyes.
Sam: Jules what are you doing up? Are you ok? Do you feel sick again?
Jules: I'm fine. I guess I just had a weird dream because I woke myself up. I just went to get some water and saw how nice and clean and organized the downstairs is. Thank you sam for doing that.
Sam: no problem. I'm sorry for being a jerk earlier.
Jules: I'm sorry for overreacting earlier. Starts crying. Please don't leave me, Sam
Sam: its ok Jules...wait leave you?...why would I leave you?
Jules: I don't know that you are. I just dont know how you're going to feel about some changes that are coming and really fast.
Sam: Jules it's ok. I'm not going anywhere. I promise.
Jules: I'm so sorry Sam, for everything. I'm just on a roller coaster of emotions right now and I haven't figured out how to control it yet.
Sam Jules, it's ok to cry.
Jules: I guess now is as good a time as any to talk. I was going to wait until after my appointment to talk to you.
Sam: your appointment?
Jules: yeah I'm going to see my doctor
Sam: that's a good thing right.
Jules: I mean it's mostly for confirmation
Sam: confirmation of what?
Jules: remember when we went to the store and I said I needed shampoo. Well I lied to you.
Sam: huh?
Jules: I was getting something else.
Sam: ok but I didn't see you with anything
Jules: that's because I paid for it and then put it in my purse. I found you and acted like I couldn't find any shampoo.
Sam: ok. Jules, will you please just tell me, sweetheart. You don't have to beat around the bush with me.
Jules: ok so the other night when I got sick I started thinking about what you asked me about PMS. I looked at the calendar on my phone and at my tracker app.
Sam: ok so what does that mean? You said you weren't on your period.
Jules: I'm not. That's why I checked my app because you made me realize that I haven't had my period. So last night when we were at Ed's I talked to Sophie. She told me to talk to you.
Jules gets up to go to her purse and pulls out the wrapped pregnancy test and gives it to sam.
I wanted it to be a little bit more special when I told you but here.
Sam unwrapped the test. " Jules is this what I think it is" he sees the 2 lines.
Jules shook her head yes.
Sam: Jules you're pregnant?
Jules: yes. I'm sorry I didn't come to you sooner. I was just really scared and I didn't know how to tell you...
Sam picks Jules up and spins her around and gives her a huge kiss.
Jules: sam I wouldn't spin me around too much.
Sam puts Jules down. He kisses her again
Sam: I can't believe it. This is amazing.
Jules: you're not mad
Sam: of course not why would I be mad
Jules: I don't know because it wasn't planned. We were so careful.
Sam: Jules we're going to have a baby.
I couldn't be happier. I'm not going anywhere. I love you so much Jules
Jules: I love you too Sam. So do you want to go with me to my appointment?
Sam: yes I would like that only if you want me to.
Jules: as long as you don't pass out bc I'm going to need you to hold my hand
Sam: I'm there. (Sam sees Jules face, her worried expression) Jules tell me what's on your mind.
Jules: It's nothing. I'm fine
Sam: are we going to do this again?
I can see it all over your face. What's wrong?
Jules: sam, I'm really scared.
Sam: it's ok to be scared. I'm going to be with you every step of the way. I promise.
Jules: I don't want to let the team down.
Sam: Jules the team will be fine. This is bigger.
Jules: you're right. This is bigger
Sam: I can't wait to tell the team
Jules: we can't tell them yet.
Sam: why not? They will eventually find out.
Jules: most people don't announce a pregnancy until the 2nd trimester around 4 months. I don't want them to be distracted. It'll be fine.
Sam: Jules? Like it was fine when you had to run out of the truck because you had to throw up.
Jules: how'd you know about that?did spike say something to you
Sam: Jules did you think no one was paying attention or looking out for you?
Jules: Maybe Ed. Sophie told me Ed saw me but he never came to me and asked me anything
Sam: no Jules I saw you. I saw you throw up multiple times.
Jules: why didn't you come to me?
Sam: I didn't want to make you mad or upset. But now that I know why you're throwing up I'm not as upset with you for not telling me. I am upset with you for not taking better care of yourself.
Jules: sam I'm a grown woman. I don't need to be babysat.
Sam: you're also a police officer. Most pregnant women don't have your job. And I'm not babysitting you. I'm just trying to look out for you... By the way, We're having a conversation.
Jules: ok fine. Let's not argue please. I seriously don't have the energy.
Sam: well you know when we fight we always make up.
Jules: uh..slow down tiger. Doctor at the ER said no vigorous activity remember.
Sam: damn..ok well we can always just make out.
Jules: no offense Sammy but I don't feel like doing anything, but sleep which is hard to do because I randomly throw up throughout the day and night.
Sam: maybe you can talk to your doctor and she can give you some medicine to help so you can have some relief .
Jules: Sophie said she was sick alot with izzy.
Sam: maybe you will feel better soon.
Jules: I sure hope so. I can't throw up for the next 8 months.
Sam: not to mention they won't let you work if you're sick Jules.
Jules: i'm not contagious Sam.
Sam: I know that but if you're stuck in the bathroom most of the shift that's not ideal for you. You need to rest and relax.
Jules: if only it was that easy (she smiled at him)
Sam: come on let's get to bed.
Jules: thanks for cleaning up.
Sam: no problem.
Sam and Jules go upstairs and go to bed.
Around 8 am Jules woke up and got ready for her appointment. Sam cooked them breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen. He then finished getting ready and they headed to the doctors office.
At Dr. Kline's office
Jules Callaghan (the nurse called her name and she and sam followed her to the triage area.
They obtained her height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, O², . They also ran a bunch of routine blood tests including an hcg blood and urine test. And tested her blood sugar.
Nurse Carmen: ms. Callaghan, what brings you in today?
Jules: well I took a home pregnancy test and it was positive so I needed to make sure. Also I've been having really unbearable nausea and vomiting. Headaches, stomach cramps, etc.
Nurse C: ok, your blood pressure is good.
Your sugar is low . 70. Ill have your test results before you leave.
Your pulse is a little high. Are you nervous?
Jules; I guess a little bit . Ok maybe alot
Nurse C: it will be fine . we will get you taken care of . If you will change into this gown. Everything off. Opening in the back and you can cover yourself up with the sheet. Dr Presley will be with you shortly.
Jules: thank you.
The nurse walks out and sam helps her with the gown.
Sam: jules you ok..you're shaking.
Jules: I told you im really scared.
Sam hugs her and rubs her back. He kisses the top of her head. There is a knock at the door.
Dr. Presley: hey Julianna. How're you?
Jules: I'm ok.
Dr Presley: hi im Dr Presley nice to meet you.
Sam: im Sam Braddock. Boyfriend. And father(they shake hands)
Dr. Presley: so Carmen said you took a test and it was positive.
Jules: yes I..well we just wanted to confirm.
Dr. Well it shouldn't be too much longer on the test results. First im going to listen to your heart and lungs and then ill have you lie back and im going to just listen to your stomach ok.
Jules nodded her head.
Dr Presley palpated Jules abdomen and then did an internal exam.
Dr: jules I want to do a pelvic ultrasound. I can see more than on an abdominal ultrasound.
Jules: ok. (She responded nervously)
Sam: um Dr Presley should I step out of the room.
Jules: Samuel Braddock don't you dare leave me. I told you...no passing out. (She whispered)
Dr Presley: jules its ok to be scared. This is all new. Its exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. Its a roller coaster of emotions.
Your body is going through alot of changes.
Jules: you can say that again. I honestly thought it was a concussion.
Dr Presley: what do you mean?
Jules: well a few days ago I passed out at work during workout. I went to the ER. I had thrown up and was dizzy so they assumed it was a concussion. The hospital didn't run any kind of pregnancy test that I'm aware of which I thought was weird since I thought it was routine. It wasn't until the other night after I had thrown up that I realized I was late and had not gotten my period.
Then I took a test. I got sick at work yesterday a few times and at home late last night.
Dr Presley: so you're definitely having morning sickness. I'll give you some anti nausea medicine to help with that so you don't become dehydrated.
Jules: thank you.
Dr Presley: ok Jules i need you to lie back im going to start the ultrasound.
Jules ok (she lied back and the doctor began the ultrasound)
Dr p: ok just relax. Jules, sam look at the screen.
Jules and sam look:. You're definitely pregnant. That dot right there is your baby.
It looks like you're about 6wks along.
Ok im going to take some measurements then im going to let you get dressed and we will go over your blood work. Ok
Sam: Dr presley when can we tell our families?
Dr: actually thats a personal choice but most people like to wait until the 2nd trimester bc the risk of miscarriage is lower.
Sam: ok.
Dr p: anymore questions?
Sam: maybe later (sits down,)
Jules:sam you ok?
Sam: yeah just overwhelmed but very excited
Dr Presley: be ok Sam. It's normal to feel overwhelmed and nervous. I can give you a list of books if you want to check them out. They seem to help first time dads.
Sam: yeah that sounds great.
Dr p: ok I'll be back.
Jules got dressed and waited for dr Presley to come back in.
Jules: Sam are you sure you're ok.
Sam: im fine Jules . honest. I just want to be there for you the best I can and I just want you to relax and be calm and focus on growing our baby (he put his hand on her stomach and smiled)
Jules: I know I guess I need to start listening to my body and not try to do too much. I'm just so used to pushing myself i know it's going to be hard to take it easy.
Sam: we just have to communicate and not get upset over the small things.
Jules: yeah I know.
Sam kisses Jules on the cheek.
Dr Presley knocks on the door and comes back in.
Presley: hi, well I have your blood test results. Your blood work looks pretty good. Your iron is low. You're anemic, that can make you very tired, have headaches, feel dizzy and lightheaded, short of breath, and have a fast heart beat. Im also concerned about your blood sugar being low. I want you to monitor your blood sugar three times a day and write it down. I also want you To start a food journal to see if we can determine if it's from not eating enough or if it's from the morning sickness.
Everything else looks great. Thyroid, cholesterol, etc.
Jules: thanks doctor Presley. What about work?
Presley: now Jules i know you're an SRU officer but with you being anemic and having severe morning sickness i really want you to work from a desk or from the command truck.
Jules wasn't very happy when she heard this.
Sam: jules I know you don't want to be behind the desk but I really think it would be safer.
Jules: Sam, i want to work.
Sam: you will still be working just safely from the truck or with Winnie at a desk.
Jules: dr Presley is there anyway I can delay working from the desk. I am not used to sitting.
Dr p: I understand but for your safety and the health and safety of your BABY I really think it would be better if you were
Jules: ok Dr. Presley. I dont want to do anything to put him/her in danger.
I havent told my boss yet. Noone knows besides Sam. Is there anyway I can wait until the 2nd trimester?
Dr Presley: i will let you work but the first sign of anything, I mean anything, you need to tell your boss and you need to work from the desk or truck.
Jules: ok. I understand.
Dr Presley: i want you to take the iron with your prenatal vitamins. Also no heavy lifting or extreme workouts ok.
Jules: ok but I may need you to write something for my work without telling them I'm pregnant because if not they may not go along with it.
Dr Presley: i can do that. Light duty etc and it will just say you're under my care.
Jules: thank you dr Presley.
Dr Presley: take care of yourself Jules.
Jules: I will. (She smiles and then looks at sam) Sam i have to use the restroom ill be back.
Sam: ok.
Dr. Presley: sam, please make sure she takes care of herself and takes it easy.
Sam: Dr i dk if she will listen to me.
: just try ok. If she listens to anyone it will be you.
Sam: i'll try. Thanks dr Presley
Sam shakes the doctors hand and Jules comes back. Dr Presley hands her some prescriptions and also a list of books to read for both her and Sam.
Dr presley: Jules, please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns. You know what to avoid. If you're not sure about something give us a call. There is a list of food and drinks and medications to avoid and which ones are safe. Also some tips to help with morning sickness. I have you some anti nausea medicine and that should help.
Jules: thank you Dr Presley
Dr: i'll see you back in a month unless you need me before then. If you will see the front desk on the way out you can get your next appointment set up
J&S: thank you.
They got their appointment and left.
In the car
Sam: so whats are your mind Jules.
J: im ok just a little nervous.
Sam: it will be fine. Im here
J: I know. So how about lets get something to eat. Im kinda hungry.
Sam: ok. What would you like?
Jules: hmm..how about chic fil a. I really want some waffle fries and a 1/2 tea 1/2 lemonade.
Sam: are you sure you don't want something a little more nutrient dense..like fruit and a salad?
Jules: sam a few fries aren't going to hurt me. Besides i actually want food so isn't that better than not eating.
Sam: well yeah
Jules: I rest my case...so please Sam.
Sam: ok fine you can have your waffle fries. But it's salad and chicken for dinner...with water..
Jules: ugh fine..
Sam drove Jules to chic fil a. She ate exactly what she wanted. Then they went home.
Sam: so what do you want to do?
Jules: well we can always have dessert (she smirked) only if you want too.
Sam: what kind of dessert are we talking about? Chocolate, ice cream..
Jules looked at sam her eyes wide and eyebrows raised and smiled.
Sam: oooh..that kind of dessert..wait I thought the doctor said no strenuous activity.
Jules: we can always just make out. Nothing vigorous about that.
Sam: true. (He smiled at Jules and leaned in for a kiss)
She kissed him back and they start making out. Sam picks Jules up still kissing each other and make their way to the guest bedroom.
After about 30 minutes Jules started feeling weird. She stopped kissing Sam and sat up in the bed and moved to the edge
Sam: what's wrong?
Jules: I dont know i just started feeling weird.
Sam: maybe it was too much stress
Jules: sam we were just kissing
Sam:I know but maybe we shouldn't make out until the doctor clears you.
Jules: sam...im ok. I think im just freaking myself out.
Sam: are you sure we don't need to go back to see Dr presley. Maybe we should go to the ER just incase it's something more serious
Jules: its not like that. Im not in any pain . I think its just hormones.(Sam looked at her concerned)I'm sure it's nothing .
Sam: jules you're going to go and take a hot bath and relax..
Jules: ok.
Jules took a bath and went back downstairs
Sam: you feeling any better?
Jules: yeah im ok just tired
Sam: you want some tea?
Jules: Honey pear.
Sam: coming up..
Jules drinks her tea and then they watch a movie.
Jules falls asleep. Sam decides to finish straightening up the house.
He starts making dinner when Jules wakes up.
Sam: hey how're you feeling?
Jules: ok. Im just so tired. I don't get it
Sam: Jules you're growing a baby you have a right to be exhausted.
Jules: I have so much to do
