The next day, the gang met up in the library to discuss the two problems they were currently facing: the demon Balthazar and the Mayor who wanted to be a giant demon. Xander had an idea for how to deal with them both. His suggestion for how to deal with Balthazar was acceptable to the gang. His suggestion for dealing with the Mayor wasn't, at least to some of them.

"We need to figure out where this Balthazar is holed up. We should pay Willy a visit and see what he has to say. Once we know where he is, I can just lob a grenade into his lair. Should take care of him and stun any vampires he's got in there with him. Or at least stun him too. Then we go in and finish them off while they're stunned."

"Considering most demons prefer the sewers or a warehouse to make their lairs in, that will probably work. But where will we get a grenade, Xander? The same place you got the rocket launcher?" Giles asked.

"No, I can make one. It's not hard. Just household chemicals in the proper proportions. How do you think I make the gas bombs I use to stun the vampires in their nests? I just mix it before I go raiding."

"You make your own bombs, Xander? Do you realize how much trouble you could get into doing that?!" Willow asked.

"It's not like I stockpile them. Willow. It's it an as needed basis kinda thing. Once we know where this Balthazar is, I can make up two or three, depending on how many minions we find out he has. Any unused ones, we can use on that nest on Jacobson that we marked a couple of days ago. Twofer deal."

"I've been researching this Balthazar, I'm afraid there isn't much that is recent since it was believed that a sorcerer had killed him a century ago. He had a cult of vampires that worshipped him. The number of them is unknown." Giles told them.

"A sorcerer, huh? Probably the Mayor since we know from Finch that the Mayor has an amulet that he stole from Balthazar." Xander said.

"That is a good possibility, yes." Giles answered.

"Okay, so we've got a possible way of dealing with the demon. What about the Mayor? How do we handle him?" Buffy asked.

"We kill him." Xander said.

"What you mean, we kill him?! He's human, Xander!" Willow exclaimed.

"He's a human who sold his soul so he could have enough time to sacrifice hundreds, if not thousands of people for a century in order to turn himself into a giant demon. He deserves to die." Xander answered.

"But we can't just kill him, Xander!" Buffy protested.

"Why not?" Cordelia asked. "Or do you prefer we wait, let him sacrifice more humans, succeed in turning himself into a giant demon and risk him eating the entire town before we do something?"

"Well no, but there has to a better answer then killing a human!" Buffy exclaimed.

"I don't see what. It's not like we can catch him and turn him over to the police. He's probably the reason why the police around here are so stupid, that or they all know what's going and are just as complicit in all of those deaths."

"How exactly would we kill him, Xander?" Giles asked.

"There's an easy answer to the one, too. Remember Private Alexander Harris, the guy I turned into on Halloween? Among all the knowledge of the army that he left behind is being a sniper. Someone who can hit a target at distance. I've spent some time at the local gun range since, thanks to Halloween, I know guns can injure and dust vampires. Provided you use the right ammo or caliber of bullet, I mean. I can shoot him from several hundred feet away, police my brass and be gone before anyone is the wiser. I also know how to destroy and dispose of the rifle so no one ever finds it."

"That just might work." Jenny said, thoughtfully.

"I'm all for it." Joyce, who hadn't said anything up to this point, said.

"Mom! You're advocating killing someone?!"

"Buffy, the first time I found out about all of this was when that idiot Ethan spiked the band candy so vampires, apparently hired by the Mayor, could kidnap four newborn babies and sacrifice them to a demon. How many times do you think he's done something like that?"

"The sacrifice to Lurconis had to be done every fifty years following the initial one. So that would have been the third time in the last century he sacrificed babies to this particular demon." Giles told them.

A statement that stunned everybody into silence. Then Buffy, followed by Willow, quietly agreed it was probably the best way to deal with the Mayor.

After questioning Willy, they found that Balthazar was holed up in the basement of a warehouse and had approximately fifty vampire followers with him. Xander mixed up three of his bombs and then lobbed them one after another into the lair. Then armed with super soakers and stakes, while Buffy and Faith had swords, they went in with protective head gear on and dusted the vampires while the Slayers did a slice and dice number on the grossly oversized and unable to move, demon Balthazar.

Two days later, after confirming via archival evidence, that Mayor Wilkins was indeed over a century old and hadn't aged a day: a news report stated that an unknown shooter shot and killed Mayor Richard Wilkins the Third. His body disappeared from the morgue and was never found.

The Scooby Gang disposed of it, after all, they knew of demons that consume human remains without the making them dead part.
