Chapter 16: First True Encounter With Team Magma! Saving Dr. Cosmo at Meteor Falls!

Ruby - "Ok. So where do we start looking for clues on Team Magma?"

Michael - "Slow down Ruby. Let's at least have lunch first. Can't do anything on an empty stomach."

Suddenly everyone's stomachs growled.

Applejack - "Time to eat then."

Rainbow/Yang - "Agreed."

The rest of the party followed the trio into the Pokémon Center and had lunch, along with having Nurse Joy heal their Pokémon.

Ruby - "Ok. As I was saying before. How do we find clues about Team Magma?"

Michael - "For now, let's just go around the town and ask questions. Meanwhile, Weiss and her team will restock on our supplies so they last us until we reach Rustboro City."

Weiss - "Simple enough. Let's finish eating, then get moving on our tasks."

Rarity - "Agreed."

After lunch was over and the party got their Pokémon back, Weiss led her group over to the Poké Mart. Meanwhile, Michael and the rest of the party went around the town looking for clues. Both halves then met back up in front of the Pokémon Center.

Bea - "So how'd the clue searching go?"

Pinkie - "Well we learned "Men and women in weird red clothes" marched through the town to the house you guys passed to reach the Poké Mart."

Whitney - "After that. They led a scientist named Dr. Cozmo out of the house and towards Meteor Falls."

Clair - "So then Team Magma's gotten a good head start on us already."

Michael - "Well then. We'll just have to be faster."

Michael quickly double checked the supplies that Weiss's group got. Then after they were packed away, the party made their way to Route 114. While traveling along the Route, both Michael and Rainbow caught a Swablu, along with Michael also catching a Zangoose and Seviper. Michael sent his three newest catches home, while Rainbow kept her Swablu.

Fluttershy - "Hard to believe that a Pokémon this cute turns into a Dragon-Type."

Yang - "Altaria's a Dragon/Flying Type throughout its entire evolution line, right?"

Michael - "They aren't actually."

Pinkie - "They're not?"

Michael - "No. In fact. Yang. Could you please bring out your Salamence and Garchomp?"

Yang - "Sure thing."

Yang quickly brought out her two Psudeo-Legendaries.

Michael - "First, I'll start with Garchomp. Garchomp's entire evolution line is Dragon/Ground, and this carries over into its Mega Evolution as well. Next is Salamence. Bagon and Shelgon are both Pure Dragon-Types, but once Shelgon evolves into Salamence, it gains the Flying-Type. And this Dragon/Flying Typing stays when Salamence Mega Evolves as well. But then we finally get to Altaria. As a Swablu, it's a Normal/Flying. Then upon evolving into Altaria, the Normal-Type is exchanged for Dragon-Type. But it still gets crazier."

Bae - "How so?"

Michael - "Well much like the Typing exchange that happens when Swablu evolves into Altaria, it happens again when Altaria Mega Evolves. But this time it's Flying being exchanged for Fairy. So remember Rainbow. You not only need to teach Altaria over to counter her main weaknesses, but also any weaknesses when she Mega Evolves too."

Rainbow - "Right."

Michael - "There is an upside about Type matchup when you Mega Evolve Altaria though."

Weiss - "What's the upside Michael?"

Michael - "Normally, Altaria's weak to four Types. She takes double the normal damage from Dragon, Rock, and Fairy moves, and quadruple the normal damage from Ice moves. But when she Mega Evolves, three of those weaknesses change. Ice goes from dealing quadruple the normal to double, and the Dragon and Rock weaknesses are replaced by Poison and Steel ones. Now the good thing is that the Talonflame you're getting in Kalos will help you out with the Steel Weakness. But you still need a Pokémon of yours to learn either a Psychic or Ground move for the Poison Weakness. Skarmory can also assist with the Fairy Weakness, and both can cover Altaria's Weakness to Ice."

Rainbow - "Hopefully I can find a third Electric-Type that can learn a good Psychic or Ground move."

Michael - "Just be patient Rainbow. You'll know the Pokémon you want when you come across it. And speaking of which."

Michael brought out and opened up the case Stuart had given him back at Devon Corp.

Yang - "Key Rings?"

Michael - "Yeah. I HAD meant to give you, Rainbow, Fluttershy, and Blake yours before we started walking towards Fallabor Town. But I unfortunately forgot to."

Blake - "Better late than never at least."

Michael - "Rainbow gets hers first since she got her Swablu out right now. Along with your Key Ring, you also get the Mega Stones for Altaria, Ampharos, Manectric, and Aerodactyl. Fluttershy. Along with your Key Ring, you also get the Mega Stones for Venusaur, Sceptile, Beedrill, Pinsir, and Heracross. Yang. Along with your Key Ring, you also get the Mega Stones for Salamence and Garchomp. And finally, Blake. Along with your Key Ring, you also get the Mega Stones for Sableye, Sharpedo, Gengar, Houndoom, and Banette."

Rainbow - "Man Fluttershy. You and Blake sure have a bunch of possible Mega Pokémon to choose through."

Blake - "I'll say. But that does make selecting for our final teams more fun."

Yang - "Sucks we'll be stuck with the lone Mega Evolution for the entire battle."

Michael - "Not quite."

Fluttershy - "What do you mean by that Michael?"

Michael - "Before I left for Hoenn, Akira told me that she's working on an update to the Battle Disk that'll allow us to Mega Evolve as much as we want."

Ruby - "That actually sounds pretty cool."

Michael - "I know right. Anyway. Let's keep moving so we can stop Team Magma."

Girls - "Right!"

Yang returned her two dragons, along with Rainbow returning her newly caught Swablu. Then the party continued along Route 114 before finally arriving at the eastern entrance of Meteor Falls. Upon entering the cave, the party was amazed at the size of it.

Ruby - "Talk about a massive cavern."

Weiss - "I'll say. You could easily fit a gym in here if you wanted to."

Meanwhile, Rarity was writing down in the notepad she kept close by.

Michael - "Taking notes Rarity?"

Rarity - "That's right. The rest of the girls and I agreed to taking inspiration for our own gyms from multiple locations."

Michael - "Clever thinking."

Suddenly the party heard voices coming from further inside the cave. They then slowly move towards the source of the voices.

Team Magma Grunt #1 - "Hehehe! With this meteorite, that thing in Mt. Chimney will..."

The group of Team Magma Grunts then noticed Michael and the girls.

Team Magma Grunt #1 - "Heh? I don't know who you brats are, but if you get in the way of Team Magma, don't expect any mercy!"

Then just as the first grunt moved towards Michael, another voice stopped him.

? - "Hold it right there, Team Magma! You're badly mistaken if you think you can have your way with the world."

The voice was revealed to belong to Archie, Team Aqua's Leader.

Team Magma Grunt #2 - "Hehehe! Even Team Aqua joins us! But it's too much trouble to deal with you all..."

Team Magma Grunt #1 - "Heh, it doesn't matter! We've got the meteorite, so off to Mt. Chimney we go! Hehehe! Be seeing you, you Team Aqua dingbats!"

The Magma Grunts then quickly hightailed it out of Meteor Falls and back towards Mt. Chimney. After a few moments, Archie approached Michael.

Archie - "Michael, right?"

Michael - "Yes. What do you want Archie?"

Archie - "I do want to apologize for mistaking you for a Team Magma grunt back at the museum in Slateport City."

Michael - "Not at all."

Archie - "Ahahaha. You're one odd kid. Anyway, Team Magma's a dangerous group of total fanatics."

Michael - "Yeah. Fanatics of wanting to expand the landmass. Just like you and Team Aqua are for wanting to expand the sea."

Archie said nothing due to being stunned by Michael's comment. Then the two grunts that followed Archie ran towards him.

Team Aqua Grunt #1 - "Boss, we should give chase to Team Magma..."

Archie - "Yes, yes, we must! We've got to hurry. They're no telling what they'll do at Mt. Chimney! Michael, you and your friends should keep an eye out for Team Magma too. Farewell!"

With that, Archie led his pair of grunts out of Meteor Falls and towards Mt. Chimney as well.

Clair - "Well that happened..."

Michael slowly walked over to the man in the lab coat, who turned out to be Dr. Cozmo.

Michael - "Dr. Cozmo, right? Did they harm you at all?"

Dr. Cozmo - "Yes, I'm fine. And I'm very sorry. Team Magma asked me to guide them to Meteor Falls... But they tricked me. As well as taking away my meteorite... Then, another group named Team Aqua showed up. After that... I didn't understand a single thing. But that Team Magma... Just what are they gonna do with the meteorite at Mt. Chimney?"

Michael - "He's right. Just what do they plan on doing with it?"

Flannery - "So now what do we do?"

Michael - "For now. All we can do is head for Mt. Chimney and stop Team Magma."

Bea - "Michael's right. There's still time."

Michael - "Before we get moving though. There are a few questions I want to ask you ma'am."

Suddenly, an old woman appeared out of nowhere in front of Michael. This also caused the girls to freak out a bit.

? - "Oh. And just what questions might you have for me young man?"
