After Crait, Rey left the Resistance. She didn't really choose to join in the first place, and after that whole mess with Luk Skywalker she had lost some faith in them. She still kept in contact with Finn during her smuggling runs in the Falcon, and sometimes sent Chewie a quick message. But that was mostly it.
And you know what? Rey enjoyed her new life. Smuggling was fun and adventurous, everything Jakku wasn't. She got to live a life of excitement.
Well, that was until the Resistance forced her to come back. It started out as small messages about her being the only person who could defeat Kylo Ren, but quickly turned into death threats. Eventually, they just gave up and captured her, only letting her out for battles.
So here she was, pale, ribs showing like the prisoner she was, forced to face Kylo Ren in battle. They had been fighting for a few minutes, both in heavy clothes for the snow, when Rey's hood slips back.
Kylo takes a deep breath taking in her black eyes and pale face. Then it all adds up. Why she had been fighting reluctantly, and all the despair he felt through the force.
"You have no choice, do you?" He said softly.
Rey activated her lightsaber again, but then felt something off. She gagged a few times, dry heaves, before her gaze started swimming.
The last thing she remembered seeing was Kylo's terrified face.
Kylo quickly caught Rey before she fell. His dear Rey. Why hadn't she joined him? This would've never happened on his watch. Ever.
He picked her up gently, wrapping her own cloak around her for warmth, and trudged back through the snow to the walkers.
He deposited her inside his personal walker, knowing her shivering self would be safe there. He called in a retreat, knowing full well capturing the Reistance's Jedi was a victory.
