Chapter Two: Harry visits royalty
Harry spent a lot of time in the village, he and Katrina became close, he came to think of her as a little sister and he spent many days in her company. He even taught and gifted her a rapier so she could defend herself. That in turn caused more of the village women to come to him for self defense classes that he was all too happy to comply with. When asked why by the menfolk who didn't like seeing women fight, Harry said that while he hoped they never would need his classes he believed that every living being deserved a chance to defend themselves. Quite a few of the young boys and men came to him after that as well. After a while Harry brought a patch of land on the edges of the village, building a small home. Harry used magic sparring to help with the building to make it easier, the house wasn't much in fact it was more as a decoy for when he had people overwise he used his apartment trunk. Brom and he became close as well, Harry got the feeling that Brom was overwhelmed with the weight of the world on his shoulders and happy to share some of the load. Brom told him about many of the major players in Alagaësia as well as the history of the land in more detail that Death hadn't bothered with. Harry in turn taught him the finer points of warfare and homed his swordsmanship to a deadly edge, while Brom was an gifted swordsman and could certainly hold his own Harry thought he could be better. Harry was also working on a potion that could help improve Brom's connection to his magic, something he hadn't told Brom yet as he didn't want to get the man's hopes up. Once Brom had heard of his teleportation ability Brom asked the range on it and Harry had answered as long as he knew the area or had been shown it he could apparate there. Brom then showed him a memory of an area and asked him to take him there.
Harry had grabbed Brom's shoulder and apparated to the area, once they landed with a loud crack Brom took several deep breaths and Harry smiled.
"Sorry side-along apparition sucks the first few times." Harry said, Brom half hearted glared at him but instead started following the path they had landed on.
"Turn yourself invisible into we get into the room with Ajihad and Arya." Brom told him, Harry nodded, he had told him about Death's cloak which he was wearing including his Basilisk skin armor and the Sword of Gryffindor on his hip. Harry followed him into Farthen Dûr, after the many magnificent sights that he had seen not many could cause Harry to stop in surprise but that's what he did when they rounded a bend and the entrance to Tronjheim appeared in all its glory. The two giant statues of griffins, Harry smiled fondly at the sight of the griffins which looked the same as the ones back home. They continued though with a few of the humans and dwarves stopping to look at Brom but he must have been known here because they didn't stop him. Harry stopped once again when he came into the main hall and saw a gigantic red gem sixty feet in diameter. Carved to resemble a rose in full bloom
"Isidar Mithrim, the Star Sapphire." Brom whispered, Harry looked up at the gem in wonder wondering who had made it as it hadn't been covered in either Death's or Broms history lesson. Brom led him to a long corridor with a large set of doors with six guards, a mix of humans and dwarves, the door opened and out stepped a large man blinking in surprise when he noticed Brom.
"Brom?" The man questioned.
"Aye Jörmundur it's me, I have come to speak to Ajihad and Arya if she is here." The man Jörmundur nodded, stepping back inside motioning Brom to follow him, Harry managed to slip through before the doors closed. After the natural greetings and surprise at seeing him was over Brom got straight to the point.
"I need all of you to take an oath in the Ancient Language that you won't speak what I'm about to tell you to anyone outside this room."
"Why must we gag ourselves in such a way?" Jörmundur asked.
"What I'm about to tell you must be kept secret, it could very well be the difference between winning the war or not." Brom spoke, all of them looked at Brom in surprise they knew he wouldn't joke about something like that.
"Arya, your mother will be informed as well and she will be required to take the same oath." Arya nodded. After a few minutes of discussion they all agreed and gave the Oath.
"Good." Brom said and then launched into his tale after swearing an oath that it was true.
"About a month ago I met a man in Carvahall. At first I thought he might be a Dragon Rider of old or even Galbatorix in disguise with the amount of power I could feel from the man." Brom paused as gasps of shock were heard.
"I questioned the man and he allowed me to look through his memories." He paused again, he and Harry had both agreed to leave certain things out such as him being the Master of Death.
"The man had been sent to our world to help topple the Black King." If it wasn't for Brom's oath of truthfulness they wouldn't have believed him. Brom mentioned to Harry who dropped the invisibility causing shouts of alarm from the three in the room who grabbed for their weapons.
"Kausta Mor'ranr." Harry said in the Ancient Language, even though Ajihad and Jörmundur couldn't speak the language the magic of it allowed the two to understand that he meant them no harm, the three relaxed slightly but still held onto their weapons. Harry bowed to all three and as the highest ranked among them turned to Arya first.
"Atra esterni ono thelduin." Harry began. Arya was surprised when the new human performed the traditional elven greeting speaking first out of respect to her. Brom must have told him she thought.
"Atra du evarínya ono varda" Arya returned the greeting.
"Un atra mor'ranr lifa unin hjarta onr." Harry finished, gently taking her hand as she offered it and kissing her knuckles. Harry glanced at the elf, taking her in, she was stunningly beautiful with almond-shaped green eyes, long raven-black hair much like his own but where his resemblance to a bird's nest her's was long and straight, held back by a leather strap, she was a tall woman even an inch taller than him.
"Ajihad, Jörmundur, Arya Dröttningu, my name is Harry Potter." Harry said with a bow,
"Well met Harry" Ajihad said sitting back down as did Jörmundur and Arya.
"Brom speaks highly of you, stranger tell us why should we care what you have to say." Jörmundur asked, both Ajihad and Arya looked at Jörmundur oddly.
"Do you not trust the man who created the Varden? Or trust in the magic of the Ancient Language?" Harry questioned.
"I am here to help you kill the Black King, I have many years of experience that I can lend to you but if you are not going to trust the word of your founder then I am much better off leaving here and going to the elves. I hear that they value the word of their elders." Harry threatened, Arya raised an eyebrow at him.
"Peace Jörmundur, if Brom says this man is trustworthy then he is trustworthy." Jörmundur scowled but said nothing. Harry launched into a simplified tale of his origins mainly that he was a traveler from another world and he was over 3000 years old, he had a vast knowledge on warfare and magic and numerous abilities that the Varden might find useful. All of them sat quietly though this Jörmundur looked like he wanted to interrupt several times but a stern look from Ajihad stopped him. When he was finished his story the three were looking at him in a mixture of awe, wonder and even a little fear.
"You have certainly lived a long life, Viätor." Arya remarked, Harry let out a short laugh.
"Understatement of the year my lady." Harry said before he grew serious.
"So this Higher Power has sent you to our world to kill the King?" Jörmundur asked? Harry shook his head.
"That is not my role, Fate has decreed that to another. No my role is to guide, to teach. With apparition I can easily move between here and Carvahall." Harry said and produced two small handheld mirrors.
"These are communications mirrors that my godfather invented, myself and Brom will have one as will King Hrothgar." Harry said, he turned to Arya.
"I plan on giving one to your mother as well." Arya looked uncomfortable at that, Harry raised an eyebrow, there was a story there but he paid no mind to it for now.
"Simply say the name of the person you wish to speak to." The three of them looked impressed.
"I have heard of the wards of Du Weldenvarden and I'm hoping that because this is different magic it should go through if not communicating with the elves will be a little difficult." Harry frowned thinking about the problem.
"When do you plan on going to Ellesméra?" Arya asked, Harry looked towards Brom.
"I think a few days here to introduce Harry to King Hrothgar as well as show him around will be all we need." Brom said, Harry nodded agreement.
"Very well then I assume you don't need someone to show you to the King's throne?" Ajihad asked, looking at Brom. Brom nodded and they both said their goodbyes. Brom lead Harry though many corridors and stairs.
"I thought the dwarves were a small race. Why the bloody hell did they have to make such a big city?" Harry asked, Brom chuckled.
"It is said that Tronjheim can house the enter dwarven nation in times of a crisis and has indeed saved the nation a few times." The size boggled Harry's mind, he had seen a few massive cities in his travels but never to this size. The pair walked for a while until they came upon a large set of double doors with a dozen dwarves guarding it; the dwarves must have been told of Brom and Harry's arrival because they opened the giant doors without Brom saying anything. Walking down the long pathway Harry noticed several large statues of Dwarves that, judging by the crown and hammer, were past Kings and Queens. Upon coming up to the dwarven King, Harry and Brom both bowed.
"Rise." King Hrothgar ordered. The two stayed silent as the King seemed to study them. The pair gave King Hrothgar much the same briefing as they gave the Leader of the Varden.
"If it wasn't for you swearing in the Language of Magic I would have you thrown out of our Great City for fear of you being insane, however now you have given me much to think about Veneficus." Harry sighed inwardly yet another name that he had no doubt these people would call him. Would it be so bad to call him Harry?
As they were making their way out of the city they were stopped by Arya.
"Viätor, would you please give this letter to Queen Islanzadí?" Arya asked, looking slightly nervous.
"Of course my Lady." Harry said with a small bow. They both left the city but not before giving Ajihad, King Hrothgar and Arya some enchanted amulets of protection.
Harry and Brom appeared with a loud crack at the edge of the wards of Du Weldenvarden.
"I don't think I will ever get used to that." Brom said, trying not to throw up, Harry chuckled at him. Brom turned to glare at him. Harry ignored him, he pulled a miniature chest from his pocket, setting it on the ground. Harry tapped it with his wand and it expanded. Brom, now a little more used to Harry's magic, only raised an eyebrow in surprise. Harry opened the lid and looked over to Brom.
"Give me a second I'm gonna get us some brooms." Brom frowned wondering how brooms could help them but then Harry stepped into the trunk and climbed down. Brom stared at the trunk in amazement going over to look down he saw a ladder leading to what looked like a room.
"Come down if you want!" Harry's voice called out to him.
Hesitantly Brom stepped onto the ladder and climbed down closing the lid behind him. Once he got to the bottom of the floor Brom looked around. He was in a large dining room that wouldn't be out of place in a small manor. There were comfortable looking chairs and couches, a large dining table and an unlit fireplace. He saw several bookshelves filled with books. He was startled when he saw the moving paintings of people and several places that he had never seen.
"Harry James Potter! Why are you bringing a local here?!" One of the paintings of a female with bushy hair spoke while glaring at Brom.
"Relax Mione Brom's a good sought." Harry's voice came from one of the few doors in the room.
"Brom I would like you to meet Hermione Granger, my best friend." Harry introduced the two, Brom was still staring at the painting of Hermione in shock. Hermione turned an amused look towards Harry.
"You didn't warn him about me did you?" Hermione asked, Harry smiled.
"Nah it's more fun this way." Harry said, staring at Brom.
"How is this possible? The room? The painting?" Brom managed to ask, Harry laughed.
"Magic." Brom glared at him.
"Undetectable Extension Charm, very handy piece of magic. The portraits are a bit harder to explain I'm sure Mione can explain it better"
"There is no limit to your magic, is there?" Brom asked with a hint of envy he knew that nothing the Rider came up with could have made this possible.
"I have long since said that there is no limit to magic, only the imagination of the caster." Brom agreed with that statement, still his mind was trying to come up with a spell that would work with his magic to do the same thing. Harry came out holding two brooms, they certainly looked a lot more fancy then a normal broom and Brom could feel the magic in them. The pair left the apartment trunk, Harry held out a broom to Brom who took it still looking like he expected this to be one big prank. Harry grinned at him and placed the broom between his legs kicked off. He laughed when he saw Brom's face and gave him a short lesson on how to fly a broom. Soon enough the pair were speeding towards Ellesméra. Soon enough Harry felt a burst of power and a white spiritual being appeared in front of him slowing the broom down the spirit changed to the shape of an elf
"This is Gilderien the Wise guardian of Ellesméra; none may pass if he does not allow them." Brom told Harry, Harry felt like Gilderien was peering into his very soul, the elf spirit smiled at Harry and then vanished allowing the two to continue on. There were a few cries of alarm from elves who saw the pair but Harry paid them no mind instead following Brom to the Queen's Hall. Landing in front of the home Harry saw an female elf that could only be Arya's mother behind her were several important looking elves, one male elf stood out from Harry, Harry could feel his diminished magic the same type of magic that he felt from Brom and slipping into his mage sight Harry could tell that his spine was twisted.
Brom and Harry both gave the customary greetings.
"Brom it is so good to see you after all this time." Queen Islanzadí said after the greetings were done.
"As is you my Queen, I had originally planned to remain in Carvahall however upon meeting Harry here those plans changed." The Queen's eyes flicked towards Harry, a calculating look in her eyes.
"And why have you decided to bring this human into the heart of Ellesméra?" The Queen asked, Brom then gave them a rundown on Harry's abilities. Abilities that Harry had to show off by transfigurating a twig into a bird and conjuring a chair. Now seated in one of the many rooms of the Queen's home and after Harry had given her Arya's letter the Queen asked him a question.
"So Viätor, why have you come to Alagaësia?"
"As I told Ajihad and King Hrothgar I came to help kill the Black King, I can help guide and teach the next Dragon Rider so that finally the Black King could be brought down."
"From what Brom tells me you could go kill King Galbatorix right now." Queen Islanzadí said,
"I properly could." Harry admitted.
"If I was allowed to use my full power I could kill him from here with a thought but I have been restricted in what I'm allowed to use, it has been fated that another will kill Galbatorix and I am to aid them." Harry could tell that the elves didn't believe him even if they were speaking the Ancient Language. So Harry dipped into his power suffocating the room with it, allowing the elves to taste a hint of his power. After a few seconds Harry let up allowing the room to go back to normal, the elves were staring at him with a mixture of awe and horror, Brom more used to his companion wasn't that affected but was still in awe of the amount of pure power he felt.
"What are you?" The elf with the twisted spine asked, Harry smiled sadly at him.
"A wizard." The elf raised an eyebrow.
"I will be sure to explain my backstory once we get to know one another." Harry said, moving his eyes around the room to move back to the old elf.
"Now would you like me to fix your spine?" Harry asked, the elf looked taken aback as did the rest of the elves.
"You can do this? Our best healers couldn't." The Queen asked, Harry nodded.
"I would vanish his bones and then I have a potion that would regrow them." Harry answered, the magic in the Ancient Language allowed them to see he was telling the truth.
"Can you do this on someone else first? So we can see the processes and maybe on something less important than a spine an arm perhaps?" Harry nodded agreement he could tell that they didn't want to risk this elf.
"What about regrowing limbs? Can you do that?" The elf asked, he was trying not to appear too hopeful but Harry could tell this meant a lot to him.
"Sure, regrowing limbs is child's play." Harry answered. The meeting ended shortly after, the Queen, the elf with the twisted spine and another male elf stayed behind.
"Harry this is Oromis the Cripple Who Is Whole and this is Lord Däthedr he has agreed to allow you to vanish his bones and regrow them." Harry shook their hands. Harry turned to Oromis.
"So you got a weird title too huh?" Harry asked, Oromis crocked his head.
"In my home world I was known as the Boy Who Lived, a ridiculous title that the public gave me."
"How did you get the title?" The Queen asked, feeling an opportunity to learn more about this mysterious being.
"A Dark Lord heard a prophecy that I would kill him so he came after me killing my parents, before he turned his wand on me. He was about to kill me but my mother did something and his spell backfired, destroying his body instead." The elves looked horrified, children were considered blessings in their culture so to go after one with the intent to kill was something they couldn't even comprehend.
"Your parents are heroes." The Queen declared, Harry gave her a sad smile. Harry then turned to Lord Däthedr
"Ready to get your arm vanished?" Harry asked, the elf Lord gave a nod.
"The vanishing itself won't hurt but the regrowing can be painful, I have another potion that can put you to sleep for it if you wish." Harry offered but the elf shook his head.
"No, I want to feel the whole thing." Harry nodded.
"It will take about 24 hours to follow regrow the arm." Harry warned the elf nodded and Harry pointed his wand at his left arm.
"Ossio Dispersimus." The bones vanished, Lord Däthedr looked amazed at his left arm now flopping about with no bones. Using his right hand Lord Däthedr pushed his left hand all the way back. The Queen and Oromis looked amazed, Harry handed Lord Däthedr a potion.
"Now go somewhere you will be comfortable staying for 24 hours and drink this, I would advise moving your arm as little as possible during that time." Harry told him, Lord Däthedr nodded, taking the potion and leaving the room.
"If this works, the elven kingdom will be in your debt Harry Potter." The Queen told him, Harry bowed.
"Happy to be of servios my Queen." For the next 24 hours Harry spent the time exploring Ellesméra or talking to Oromis and Queen Islanzadí when she was available. After the time was up Lord Däthedr assured the Queen and Oromis that his arm was in full working order. Harry then did the same to Oromis's back in a spare room in the hall. Harry then spent that 24 hours checking out the Queen's impressive library. Harry was so engulfed in a book about the Rider of Old that he hadn't noticed that the 24 hours were up and was surprised when Oromis pulled him into a hug.
"Thank you." Oromis whispered to him, Harry awkwardly patted him on the back.
"Happy to help."
Authors Note
Harry's I can see your soul power is a part of being Master of Death, it's also not a foolproof way to determine if someone is good or evil it's more of a way for Harry to know if he can trust someone or not. And him being able to tell Eragon is 'fate touched' is another special power of his.
I am aiming to have Harry be more of a guide or teacher than a powerhouse and he will have restrictions on what he can and can not do.
While I aim to stick as close to canon as I can there will be differences and even some over Harry Potter characters making appearances. Harry's past won't be the same as canon either. Also I can't find a layout of Carvahall and I'm not going through the books to put one together so I'll be putting my own though but it won't affect the story much. Also I can't find any mention of money apparent from Crowns however I don't think that a tankard of ale would cost a gold coin so the currency in this story will be Copper, Silver and Gold again this won't affect the story too much but thought people might like to know. The first few chapters will be about a few years before the start of Eragon and then a time jump to the start of the book. Also a note that for words that don't have one in the Ancient language I will be using Latin instead.
It was never made clear if the common people knew Brom was a Rider or not so I'm just gonna have them know. I am by no means a medical expert so forgive any mistakes I might make. Wow big Authors Note hopefully they won't be as big as this from now on. Hope you enjoy it!
