Being of plastic, man of heart

Prompt: "Out of everyone you could have chosen, why did you have to pick me?"

I was inspired after reading Salllzy's Fallout work, which she hasn't posted yet, but has found a home in my head. I hope she will continue it so we can all enjoy it. It's so good! I have literally been begging her to write more of it. Tag me (#ESMprompts) or give me a shout out if you'd like to try this prompt yourself! I'd love to read them!

"Of all you could have chosen, why did you choose me?"

The man seems to ponder his words after you have asked him this question, as elegant or rough as he is. You get a good chance to look at him again. He doesn't look quite human, his voice is raspy, and his eyes unnatural, and yet it feels as if he's the most humanlike thing you have encountered all the while wandering.

He picked you up on the side of the road, after you had gotten into a fight with some raiders. When you first heard the sound of his revolver, you thought you were done for until you saw him shoot at the raiders, and not at you. It felt like a miracle at the time.

He's a good shot, he has humour to spare, and he hasn't let you down on any occasion. The fact that he's an android doesn't bother you anymore, you just like his company and he takes whatever help you offer.

It's a better existence than you had before, and you don't think about changing the arrangements any time soon.

Nick smiles softly at you, and then does something very humanlike of shrugging as he looks at you again. He seems to struggle to find the words, but you let him ponder on it while you add some wood to the fire pit that you dug.

"You remind me of someone in Nick's memories."
