For the uninitiated, i highly recommend just reading the comic first, but i'm not a cop so:
There's 9 Links each representing the Link from one or several games. They've been brought together via portals through space and time made by 'The Shadow', a shapeshifter whose goals are unknown.
The Links are (nicknames may not be a complete list)
Time, aka 'Hero of Time, Old man' - Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask
Warriors, aka 'The Hero of Warriors(?), The Captain, knight' - Hyrule Warriors
Twilight, aka 'Hero of Twilight, the rancher, ranchhand, wolf or Ordonian' - Twilight Princess
Sky, aka 'The Hero of the Skies, the first, skyloftian, knight' - Skyward Sword
Wild, aka 'The Hero of the Wild, cook, champion, knight' - Breath of the Wild (not Tears of the Kingdom)
Legend, aka 'Hero of Legends, veteran, collector' - Link to the Past, oracle games, Link Between Worlds, the yoshi egg one
Hyrule, aka 'Hero of Hyrule, traveller, wanderer' - Zelda I and II
Four, aka 'Hero of the Four Sword, Smithy' - All the games featuring the Four Sword
Wind, aka 'The Hero of (the) Winds/Seas, sailor, youngest' - Wind Waker
But anyways I always felt like Twilight would have a lot of mixed feelings about Midna's way of departure. So i wanted to strike some kind of middle ground between complete resentment or all forgiving infatuation. That with the Twilight Realm being criminally underused. Made feel inspired to dive into some under explored material (Or, more accurately, wanting to read a certain kind of fic and deciding to write it myself lmao) So if the premise sounds somewhat familiar please hook a brother up!
The others will probably shower him with questions soon, when they're done turning, but first he needs to take it all in. Part of him loathes himself for thinking this, but he'd been hoping one of these portals would lead them to her realm. It's the reason why he had ran head first in to it the first time - without so much as goodbye too. He hopes they're not too worried about him. He should've at least left a note. In his defence: when an otherworldly portal, similar yet distinct from the twili~ she spoke of twilit, materialized in front of him he assumed it must've been urgent.
"You know this place, don't you?", squeeks Legend. The sight brings a smile to Twilight's face. If he had a green for any time he'd been rightly accused by the pink rabbit he'd have two now. Wouldn't even buy him some milk, but it'd still be more than he'd like.
"This world is the one from which that cursed artefact hails from then, is it not?" The wariness on Sky's face sobers him. If the ethereal glow and the barren landscape weren't already familiar, he'd probably be more concerned too. The dark mist that had corrupted the palace is all around. He saw it flowing from some rocks in the distance too. It shouldn't have been a surprise, the Twili hadn't spoken of Ganondorf as if he had been the first. It wasn't like Hyrule had been completely cleansed after the defeat of the Demon King and the retreat of the Bulblins either. Reconstruction aside, Nayru knew Bokoblin and the like still hid inside the Faron Woods and Link suspected the rest of the Kingdom was no different. Still their presence was muted, less like a ferocious bear hurdling down the door and more like fleas. Perhaps this realm was no different, if this is even the same land he remembered it is probably some backwater. There is no palace or civilization in sight, just rocks floating in the ether as far as the eye could see.
The screams of agony probably didn't help.
"Not exactly." Twilight replies, "I'm told it was more a courtesy of Ganondorf himself. But i do think i've been to this world before, though only once and not this area. They call it the Twilight Realm."
Legend pauses for a beat. "Would the same trick still work here?" he asks, gaze turned to the rest of their group. They're a bedraggled bunch, a blond one eyed wolf joined by viciously scarred fox, a lion, a cat, a badger and lastly an elk, horns and all. All but one stumbling around in varying degrees of panic and curiosity. The unsurprising exception simply laying on his stomach and looking at the still familiar Links intently. Perhaps it isn't his first time, though nothing would faze the man anyways.
"Yeah the mist here is pretty thin and the Master Sword oughta be blessed anyhow. Just unsheathing it and holding it up should dispel it and reverse the effects. Afterwards we just need to keep it at be bay and stick together."
"Alright, hope everyone's ready!", Sky didn't wait for a reply before holding the blade of evil's bane skyward. Like clockwork the air became a little lighter and others returned to normal. Looking non to plussed about their successive transformations, but otherwise no worse for wear.
"Y'all okay?" Sky asks. His face is a bit befuddled, though with something haunted creeping into his eyes. The latter always seemed to set in whenever the "future's" problems showed up.
"So long as that's a one time only deal i think we're fine.", Warriors said, apparently more interested in a strand of hair than his surroundings.
"Somehow i doubt that." Four piped up, dusting himself off before grimacing at his hands.
"This mist isn't as powerful as the Shadow Crystal, so if you find yourself enveloped by it make sure to have Master Sword at hand. Or you'll just have to make do like i did."
"Shouldn't be a problem then," quips Warriors. Swinging his arm around the rancher's shoulders as he does.
Twilight huffs, but any serious rebuttal is cut off by Legend.
"A Moon Pearl should be enough to keep it at bay too, if this place is anything like the dark world where i hail from." That got a look, though the smithy only made a nod of agreement.
Warriors only keeps his blank stare for a beat before returning his attention to Twilight.
"Well then Wolfboy lead the way."
"Yeah, about that." He doesn't have much of a clue of where they are. Most of these rocks just look the same to him. Up a head there was a cluster of them that looked promising. There might be more of those weird towers around it as well, though with the distance it was hard to tell. He'll should pull out his hawkeye to confirm, but one of those towers was so close he could almost make out the blue hue characteristic of the Twili. Still that left one problem... "I don't suppose any of y'all know how to fly?" Twilight doesn't need to wait out a verbal response to understand he's getting a resounding no, though a particularly mournful one from Wild and Sky. "Clawshots it is then, follow me. We should first move to the closest tower and plot our course from there. If i'm right we shouldn't be to far from the palace anyhow."
"Will we make that before nightfall?" It was the first thing Time had asked since they arrived, the slight look of doubt on the man would have normally been more discouraging.
"We don't need to worry much about night in the Twilight Realm. The dusk here is eternal i'm told. But if we feel the need to rest it shouldn't be any less safe than camping anywhere has been."
Now that they had a plan, everyone got ready to resume their journey. Arriving at the edge of their starting rock there were some questions about the Clawshots, but with a little communication it became clear that aside from Hyrule and Wild it turned out everyone had a serviceable equivalent with enough extra's to cover the remaining two. Then with a little trail and error they went about crossing the shorter gaps on their way to the tower.
Twilight breathed in. It was only a matter of time now.

I'm not actually sure how the transformation would work in the Twilight Realm. I know you get transformed immediately when entering the dark world in a Link to The Past. And i know when you enter the the Twilight Realm in the game initially you stay human, and only transform while enveloped in the black mist. But i don't know if you transform should you de-equip the Master Sword while there regardless of mist. I can't check as i don't have the game on hand where i am and i had trouble looking it up online, so if anyone knows feel free to let me know. If you do then i guess the Chain would just all carry Moonpearls.
And For anyone wondering i got the Chain as
Twilight - Wolf
Legend - Pink Rabbit
Time - Blond Wolf
Wild - Fox
Wind - Cat
Warriors - Persian Lion
Four - Badger
Hyrule - Elk (mostly as a placeholder on this one)
Sky - Monkey (didn't come up, but hey.)
