He broke up with Kathleen! He broke up with Kathleen!'

The thought ran through Angela's mind over and over as she drove to the restaurant to meet Andy for their date. Normally he would have picked her up but he had just gotten off his shift so she told him that they could just meet there. When she had been getting ready though her mind hadn't been on their date. Instead it had been on Tony and Kathleen. And the fact that just a couple nights before he had met her Father. She remembered how sucker punched she had felt. Like this was it. Tony's relationship with Kathleen was serious. More serious than she had thought. She had spent the whole night fretting wondering how well Tony and Kathleen's Father were getting along. She knew of course that he would love Tony. Everyone did. And as much as she hated to think it she had to accept the fact that this would change their relationship. And not just between Tony and her but between Tony and Kathleen as well. After all there is usually only one reason why you introduce the person you are dating to your parents.

So she had resigned herself to the fact that Tony and Kathleen were more than likely going to end up getting married. And it pained her. It did. But there really wasn't anything she could do. She had decided to give him the chance to explore a relationship with Kathleen. Yes, she could have asked him not to date her. After all, he had told her in Jamaica that he did see her in his future. But that obviously had left his mind that night in the hotel room. And then the next day when she had given him an out all he could say was that he didn't know if it was over with her. She remembered how shocked and hurt she had felt. Was he really telling her that he was willing to throw away everything they had been building the last seven years on another woman? On a woman he had complained to her about time after time telling her how she was a MISS KNOW IT ALL or as the study group always said: MISS I HAVE A BETTER IDEA!

She shook her head as she slowed down for a red light. How had they gotten here? In Jamaica it felt like they were on their way. But, he hadn't been ready.

"Angela , I don't know about us until I know about me!'

And she had understood his reasonings and concerns. And she had been willing to wait for him. And when he had chosen his major she had been so proud of him. She knew he would be a great teacher. After all, the kids loved him and he was so outgoing and charming. Teaching was the perfect job for him.

'I always knew you would do big and important things.'

And she had. There was never any doubt in her mind that when he decided to go to College that he would go far.

UNTIL. UNLESS

That is what he had said when they had started making out in Jamaica and it looked like they were going to take things to the next step. But he had stopped them by saying that he didn't think they should do "this" until they were married. And then it was unless they were married.

The light turned green and she drove on. Until they were married. Unless they were married. Where in the hell was that when he slept with Kathleen?! Why was he okay with sleeping with her without being married but not with her?. She wiped her eyes. Had he just been stringing her along? Did he really not have those feelings for her? No, that couldn't have been it. There had been so many times in the past where he had told her how he felt without actually saying the words.

Being there for her after she had been fired and encouraging her to open her own agency.

Selling his Tony Micelli baseball card so he could buy her the beautiful crystal vase for Christmas.

Remembering that pink roses were her favorite flower.

Helping her complete her list at Inspiration Point by giving her the sweetest kiss.

Recreating her prom for her.

He had always shown her in his own way how he had felt even if he couldn't or wouldn't say the that what he had done earlier when he had told her that he had broken up with Kathleen?

'There was just a lot of stuff getting in the way. College. Work. And uh….Things.'

He glanced her way when he said "things." And she knew without him saying it that the things getting in the way was her. And she felt so relieved. The long nightmare was finally over. Watching him get ready to go out with Kathleen was over. Knowing that he was spending the night at her apartment was over. And knowing that she would never come home and see them making out on her-their couch was over. She had felt like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. She had him back. And then they started singing together and he told her that he would make some popcorn so they could watch SINGING IN THE RAIN.

That was when it had hit her. She couldn't stay. She had a date with Andy. And even if she was happy that Tony was finally free she knew she couldn't and wouldn't treat Andy like that. He was a good man and even if she didn't feel for him like she felt for Tony he didn't deserve to be dumped just because Tony had ended things with Kathleen.

She pulled into the parking lot and found a parking space. She cut the engine and exited her jaguar. She walked into the restaurant and saw Andy waiting for smiled when he saw her and stood up. She smiled back and walked over to him.

"Hello Angela." he kissed her on the cheek.

"Hi Andy."

They sat down.

"So how was work?"

Andy shook his head. "It was brutal."

"Oh I'm sorry. Do you want to talk about it?"

"Yeah, I think that would be nice."

And so he told her about the grueling day he had at the hospital. And she listened and offered the occasional comment.

UNTIL. UNLESS.

She knew then and there that she wouldn't end things with Andy until she felt like it was the right time.

She knew she couldn't end things with Andy unless she felt it was the right thing to do.

After all, she had given Tony the opportunity to date Kathleen. It was only fair that he did the same for her.
