The weather took a turn for the worst.
Actually that would be putting things mildly. All June wanted when she was driving Raf home was an end to the dangerment that her son and his friends were putting put in when they got wrapped up in the space robots business. That's why she took the young child to get examined by professional doctors.
Now she and him find themselves perilously being pulled into the maw of a massive tornado. The only thing stopping the car they are in from completely being lifted into the wind storm is the yellow Autobot Bumblebee holding on for dear life with one hand holding onto the cars hood and bumper while the other holds onto a nearby utility pole. Raf has already moved onto the hood of the car and manages to climb to safety and latch onto 'Bee's arm.
Ms. Darby is about to start climbing out the side window when the car lurches a bit.
"Ms. Darby!" Raf shouts as the hood and bumper on Junes car begins to slowly tear off. June looks on in worry and fear as her hands slowly begin to warp the steering wheel, her breathing coming in ragged hyperventilation as she watches the car slowly tear off from the autoboot trying desperately. Much to her amazement, she can see the sadness and worry in the large machines optics as it can do nothing reaffirm its grip, even as the utility pole begins to splinter a little.
Suddenly, it perks up, then an angry look of determination creeses its face as it looks like its gearing up for something.
"Wha—?" She mutters in confusion as the bumper is held on by the barest piece of metal.
It tears off.
"HRRRRAAAAAAAAHHHHH!" In that same instance, a figure bursts out from behind 'Bee, yelling as he does. It's the barest half of a second for her to recognize the robot as the armor used by none other than Mason. His helmet isn't polarized so she can see the determined angry yell on his face as goes into the air, bringing both of his blades up and out.
*SHING*
In a matter of the other half of the second, Mason stabs both his blades into the engine block of the car just as 'Bee lets go of the bumper and grabs onto the legs of Mason. The car lurches for a little from being let go but stops as Mason holds the automobile in place. "Hang on Ms. Darby!" Mason shouts as he strains to hold the vehicle in place to keep her from being taken away. Ms. Darby looks about frantically as she realizes her car is still held in place and now that Mason is holding the car by the entire engine block, they have a better hold on her now.
*CRANK*
But only by a bit.
The servos in Mason's armor strain to hold the car in place, warning signs popping up in Mason's feed as he desperately tries to hold the vehicle in place. Unfortunately the car is too heavy and the winds too much. He needs to think of another plan soon or else his armor will break and he will lose Ms. Darby.
A crazy plan forms in his mind, one that he's not sure will work but he doesn't have a choice. "Ms. Darby!" Mason shouts, catching the mothers attention. "I need you to get ready, hang on…!" He wrenches one of his blades out and stabs it further up. "And trust me!" He wrenches his other blade out and does the same.
"Wait wha-?! What are—?!" She begins to question as slowly Mason begins to pull the car towards him, getting closer and closer to the windshield.
"I said…" He shouts as he makes it to the windshield. "I need you…" He wrenches his left blade out. "To…" He raises it into the air. "TRUST ME!"
*SHING*
With one slash, he cuts a line right through the windshield. It stays intact for second before it spider web cracks before it shatters into a thousand pieces. Ms. Darby cries out as she expects to be showered by the glass but instead of going towards her, it is immediately sucked outwards and pulled straight to the tornado. Immediately Ms. Darby cries out again as she feels the immense pressure of the tornados winds almost sucks her out of the car.
"JUNE!" She looks up at her name being called. Mason has retracted the blade of his free arm and is holding his arm out to her. "Please! Grab on!" He shouts for her to do.
She looks uncertain for a second but as her car lurches for a second, she knows now she really in fact doesn't have a choice. She tries to hold onto the steering wheel as tight as she can as she slowly inches her way forward. The pressure from the winds pulls at her hard and she does everything she can to hold herself in the vehicle as she stretches out one of her hands towards Mason. With the prevailing winds their attempts to grab onto each other are hard to do as Ms. Darby's arm is thrown about, while Mason's is able to keep still but only barely. After a few more tries, Mason lurches himself forward just a little and grabs onto her arm just as she grabs his.
"Aaaahhhhh!" She screams as he pulls her out of the car just as he pulls out his remaining blade. Her body slides out of the car just as its pulled into the air and sent flying into the tornado. Mason wastes no time in wrapping his free arm around Ms. Darby's back and pulls her in close to him. He quickly encloses her in a bear hug as tries to hold onto her tightly, but not tight enough that he accidentally crushes her. Without the added weight of the car, 'Bee is able to hold on more securely and safely brings Mason and Ms. Darby close to him and Raf and slowly begins to step his way back and away from the tornado as it moves away from them. Thankfully the power of the tornado is unable to pull the Autobot into its depths now that he is holding onto less weight and moving further away from the natural disaster.
"Puh!" Mason grunts as he slams onto the ground on his back. A short distance later is all they need to make it out of harms way and both members of the Autobot team can rest. Ms. Darby yelps as they fall but still holds on tight just in case, especially considering the fact she doesn't want to take the chance of getting sucked into the air like her car. Mason sighs as he leans his head back and on the ground. "Ms. Darby?" Mason questions her. Slowly she inclines her head upwards and looks directly into Mason's helmet. His helmet doesn't have its polarization as he looks worriedly at the mother. "Are you okay?"
"…" She doesn't respond at first, still staring at him until she slowly looks around and takes note of the fact that the winds have calmed down some. She slowly begins to let go of the teen and carefully pushes herself off of him. She's shaking as she does but manages to calm her breathing for a bit as she places herself on the dirt. Mason sits up and looks worriedly at her as she takes calm even breaths. She takes one final long deep breath with closed eyes before letting out a long exhale. She looks up at Mason and smiles at him. "Yes, I'm okay." The winds are still pretty rough but still not in any danger of them being sucked away,
Mason sighs in relief and nods his head. "Good. Good." He turns to the Autobot. "'Bee! Raf! Sound off." He orders.
"We're okay." Raf replies from next to Bumblebee. The Autobot in question simply gives a thumbs up in return, no doubt tired from the strain of having to hold onto several objects from getting pulled away from him.
"Good to hear." Mason replies and pushes himself back to his feet. He examines himself a little, especially his arms as he feels some stiffness in his joints from the strain he had to endure just now. Still his suit is working as intended so until he can get it examined and repaired, he'll have to make do for now. "C'mon." He extends his hand to the mother, who carefully takes it, and he effortlessly pulls her up but slowly. "We need to get back to base. I know you don't want to go back considering the whole thing you said earlier about us kids there with giant robots and all that but right now we're in it and we need to be somewhere safe, i.e. the Autobot base." He informs her of what they need to do. If the weather on the planet is going haywire, then the storm they just survived is one of many other possibilities they may have to deal with and need a properly protected place to be safe in.
Ms. Darby looks unsure for a second but as she looks back to the twister, she turns back and nods firmly in agreement with him.
"Good. 'Bee saddle up! We're headin' home." The large yellow Autobot nods before he transforms into car mode. Mason enables his bike and looks to Ms. Darby. "Hop in Bumblebee with Raf. Pretty sure you don't want to be in an open top vehicle right now."
"No I do not." She makes a line straight to the Autobot and quickly gets in the passenger seat while Raf shimmies himself into the back passenger seat. With seatbelts on and doors firmly closed, both 'Bee and Mason speed off back to the base with Mason radioing in.
"Ratchet! This is Mason. We're on the way back." He calls the base.
"That's great news Mason! I'll be ready with the doo—"
"Mason!" Jack suddenly shouts into the mic, making Mason wince but quickly shakes it off once he recognizes the worried tone in the teens voice. "My mom—?!"
"—Safe and sound." Mason interrupts him with the good news. "Both she and Raf are good to go. We're bringing them him."
"That's great to hear. I'll be ready with the door now that I've got a lock on your signals." Ratchet informs them before he cuts off the signal.
It doesn't take long for them to make it back to the base. As soon as they make it in, the humans disembark their rides. Mason sighs as he removes his helmet. He looks up and watches as Jack runs up to his mom in concern.
"Are you alright?" He asks her.
She takes a moment to respond and soon enough nods. "I will be." She looks hesitant for a second. "Jack…" Ms. Darby says her sons name.
"Mom, I—" Jack tries to apologize to his mother from the earlier spat they had and him refusing his mom to go.
"I know." She interrupts her son, just happy to be back with her son. "Me too."
"But you're grounded till you're 30." Ms. Darby kind of kills the warm fuzzy feelings by being stern with her son. "Mm, 25." Thing is Jack doesn't look all that put off by it, nor does it seem like his mom would go through with the punishment. Mason thinks they are just mostly happy they are okay and safe. Soon Ms. Darby turns from her son and looks to her rescuers. "Thank you." She thanks Mason before looking at 'Bee. "Thank you both."
"It's no problem ma'am." Mason replies to her. "Theirs no way we were going to lose you or anyone of us, no matter what." 'Bee agrees with what he said. She nods and walks away with Jack casting one last look at them, nodding as he does with a smile.
"How are you feeling?" Mason looks to the side to see Arcee walking up to him.
"Oh, uhhh…" He puts on his helmet and quickly pulls up a diagnostic of his suits systems. "Well, most of my suit is still in working order. I've got some warning signs of some possible structural damage on the joints of suit, mostly around my arms, but provided I don't decide to lift anything way bigger than me then I should be goo—"
"I meant, how are YOU feeling?" She places emphasis on Mason himself and not his armor.
"…" He doesn't answer her at first, keeping silent till he takes off his helmet and looking at her. She has a look of concern about her as she looks at him. He sighs and leans forward on his bike while the others are trying to make sense of the situation as a whole. "Honestly, I'm doing alright…" He looks down a little before he looks back up. "Physically I mean. Mentally… damn I…" Mason sighs depressed at the situation still plaguing his mind.. "I don't remember it, I really don't, but I just can't believe that I… I attacked you guys… I just… I just can't."
"Mason," Arcee tries to comfort him as she kneels next to the depressed human. "It wasn't your fault. Something took control of you, forced you to fight us. I know it forced you because of all the times you've fought with us, helped us, and saved us, I know for a fact you wouldn't want to intentionally hurt us." She sincerely tries to help him feel better about the whole thing.
Mason smiles at Arcee and nods at her. "Hm, thanks Arcee. I appreciate what you said…" He frowns a little as he puts on his helmet and transforms his bike onto himself. "But that doesn't change the fact that it was my body used against you guys." He walks away towards the group looking towards Fowler as he seems to have more to add to the whole situation.
Arcee looks down at the still saddened human, but she does hope in her mind that she at least did something to help alleviate her partners sad mood, if even a little.
She walks up alongside the others as the news anchor on the monitors informs everyone of what's going on, sort of. "World leaders are classifying these bizarre weather patterns as a global emergency."
"Global?" Ms. Darby asks confused.
"So it really is not just happening here." Mason mutters as he walks up to them making her look at him a second before they focus back on the news.
"And scientists believe the phenomena to be somehow related to the current planetary alignment."
"What have you learned, Prime?" And just on cue Agent Fowler walks in and begins a small tirade and how annoyed he most likely is considering just how crazy everything is going for pretty much everyone at this rate. "And you better not blow smoke up my oven." He demands of the Autobot leader. Mason thinks that if it were anyone else that the human was demanding of, theirs no doubt they would not accommodate Fowlers request. The government agents takes this opportunity to notice Jack's mom in the room and suddenly gets a little nervous. "Ms. Darby. What a nice surprise."
"Special agent Fowler." She returns the greeting to him.
"We have learned this," Ratchet begins to explanations as he pulls up the readings. "As with the so-called magma from the volcano, these earthquakes originated far below the Earth's crust, from the very center of the Earth's core, in fact."
"Quakes don't start there. Do they?" Agent Fowler points out and he is right. More commonly an earthquake goes off from shifting tectonic plates on the earths surface and volcanos take a long time to form as magma slowly breaches and pulls under the earths surface, not having a complete and straight shot directly from the earths molten core.
"Tiny tremors rising and failing in a consistent pattern, almost like… by the Allspark!" Ratchet suddenly shouts with his optics wide. This gets everyone on edge as the medic has a sudden realization and starts tapping wildly on his terminal. "If I convert these data points to audio files…" He stops as he stares at the screen.
"What? What is it?" Fowler asks.
"Well, listen."
Ratchet shows everyone some shifting wavelengths on the screen.
*Thump-thump… thump-thump… thump-thump*
The others can eerily hear the sound, but Mason can almost hear the complete indistinguishable sound.
"It's a heartbeat." He mutters in awe at what he is hearing. The others look at him before back to Ratchet who confirms what he said is true. While they aren't looking Mason has to place a hand to his head as the sound pounds in his head a little, giving him a bad headache.
"A cybertronian heartbeat?" Jack questions just what it is more specifically.
"How is that possible?" Ms. Darby questions exactly how this is happening for them. "A heart pumps blood. There's nothing inside the earth to pump except…" She stops short as she can't come up with a valid excuse for it.
But Raf does know what it is.
"Blood of Unicron."
"Okay, hold on." Miko begins to ask the hard questions about the whole situation. "You mean something's living down there inside our planet?"
"I fear that the Earth's very core is not comprised of magma as your science has suggested, but of Dark Energon." Optimus informs them all eerily of the sheer scale of the problem they just might be facing all things considered.
"And if we're hearing a Spark, then Unicron is the rising darkness that the prophecy foretold." Ratchet finishes his leaders explanation.
"So, how do we stop this thing from rising?" Agent Fowler quickly asks what to do.
"That, I am afraid, was not foretold." And of course Optimus does not have a solution for their problem.
"How can something be in our Earth's core and be alive?" Ms. Darby asks.
"Such a thing is not unprecedented. Before the beginning, there was Primus, and there was Unicron." Optimus begins to go into a long explanation of the past and how things came to be for the Cybertonians. "One, the incarnation of creation the other of destruction. For aeons, Primus and Unicron battled the balance of power shifting between them more times than could be counted. Only by creating the 13, the original Primes who preceded me, was Primus finally able to defeat Unicron and cast him out. Primus became one with the very core of our planet, creating life through the well of allsparks, while Unicron was never to be heard from again… until now."
"Maybe we can find the hole this Uber-'Con left when he dug himself all the way down there and fill it full of explosives." Agent Fowler in his usual gungho way is ready to blow his enemies to kingdom come without remorse.
Unfortunately its not going to be quite that easy for them to do.
"Agent Fowler, I do not believe that Earth became Unicron's home but rather that with time and gravitational force, debris collected around the slumbering titan."
"Forming your Earth itself." Optimus and Ratchet reveals to everyone exactly what the theory is revolving around the ancient being and his place in earth.
"Meaning," Mason begins to say, coming up next to the government agent. "We can't blow up Unicron, as that would mean blowing up our very own planet as well." His explanation does not inspire confidence or relief for the agent.
"And he's only awakening now due to the magnetic pull created by the planetary alignment." Arcee points out that bit of fact for them all and the cause of all this.
"Okay, well, what happens now when Unicron wakes up from his billion-year nap?" Jack asks.
"Yeah, does he stretch and kapow! Earth poufs to dust?" Miko asks.
"…"
"You don't know, do you?" Ms. Darby catches onto to the silence from Optimus.
"My guess is that Unicron has transcended physical form as we know it. Nonetheless, we must find a way to ensure that this force of nature never fully awakens. The fate of your planet depends upon it." Optimus proposes that they do. Everyone is in agreement in trying to figure out something to make sure Unicron doesn't fully awaken, as if he does then the whole of humanity, and the temporary home of the Autobots will be destroyed in an instant if he does awaken.
Everyone is nervous as they wait for their leader. Optimus has gone through the ground bridge to some locations that has the strongest readings they can find following the quakes that Unicron has been starting.
"Ratchet, this epicenter is consistent with the findings of the others." Optimus informs them over radio. "Its terrain is rich in ore."
"So, what does that tell us?" Agent Fowler asks for clarification.
"It follows that the natural metals in your Earth would be extensions of Unicron. His limbs, if you will." Ratchet quickly explains what it is they are expecting of the being.
"So, he did have his morning stretch, which is why these quakes happened." Ms. Darby says.
"Optimus, I'm detecting a swell in Unicron's spark activity." Ratchet quickly informs their leader.
"Rest assured, Ratchet, I will proceed with vigilance."
*ZzzT*
"Optimus?" Ratchet quickly asks in concern as they seems to be a small static malfunction on the comms.
"What's wrong?" Arcee asks.
"I'm not sure. Some sort of… interference it seems. I'm doing what I can to get Optimus back on the line." Ratchet begins tapping away on his console to get things going again so they can talk to their leader.
"What do you think happened?" Jack asks out loud.
Mason thinks for a moment before he comes up with some sort of an idea. "Well, he is in a canyon of sorts. Adding to all the rich ore and metals there its possible that we hit a spot of interference there."
"About as good of an idea as any." Ratchet agrees before he suddenly gets a grim thought. "Though with the potential for Unicron to shift the landscape I worry that it may be him that is interfering with our ability to speak to Optimus." He surmises the possibility of what's going on.
This does not bode well for bringing the others worries down. At this point Optimus is the one that pretty much knows everything and anything about Unicron and they need to get him back on the off-chance that Uni—
"PARASITES!"
"Ahhhh!" Mason shouts, grabbing his head.
And here it is. Sorry for how long this was to release. Kind of was in a major inspiration mood for some of my other stories and kind of put this on the backboard. Sorry about that folks. In any case sorry for how short this chapter was compared to my usual stuff, decided to go ahead and focus on just getting something down and out for this story since many of you requested an update and such. It's not much but hopefully you all liked the conclusion to the weather anomaly that was going to plague some of the members the Autobots team.
Make no mistake people, until I make a notice on this story that it's no longer being continued, I will continue to make progress in this story and my other stories. Thing is inspirations come on suddenly and their will be moments where I will spend long amounts of time working on a few specific stories just to keep the momentum going. It's not the best and I'm sure theirs plenty of you that prefers I work on some of your favorite stories but sometimes it takes way too long than I would like and I apologize for future moments of lack of updates.
OutlawSnide7: It's a hell of an idea. Can't really say if I'll do any of it and such but its an interesting to think about as the story progresses. Lord knows I'm always figuring out different things to work on with this story so we'll see how things go.
Blaze1992: Could be a combination of both anger and the Dark Energons effects on him. But bottom line is that Mason has a lot to deal with considering the armor he's used all the time and the introduction of the Dark Energon.
Pyrojack25: I don't really get it myself as well as much on the idea of a cyborg for him. I mean its an interesting idea but I've always liked the idea of an almost full blooded human going on par with helping out the Autobots in certain situations, such as combat.
Mixable: Thank you. Glad you like it.
The Hellbound: Thank you. Hope you like more as it continues.
Animefan60 (Ch.6): He's barely into his late teens and he's dealing with situations where he's almost going to die. Of course he's not going to be the best considering everything and has to use what he can.
Melwe9: Romance is an idea of had and thought about for the story. Of course any chances of that happening will be far later on if that would be the case but we'll see.
SpicyArbiter: Thank you for all the reviews. Hope as more of the story progresses you continue to enjoy as things go.
Prime808: Sorry about that. My inspiration for other stories kind of went overboard for a bit.
Lwwas-forever: That's quite the theory you have there… and one that fits very well with the whole thing.
Velocitron: Glad you think so. I do what I can to keep things and the characters canon to themselves but also slight changes with the addition of my OC's to stories. Glad to hear everything is setup nicely that you and others like how all of the story is progressing.
Thank you all for your support and I hope you all continue to enjoy my content throughout all what I write. Go ahead and fave, follow, review, whatever you wish. Thank you everyone, take care, have fun reading, but most of all have a great day each and everyone one of you.
