Joseph Joestar was still nervous about the idea of a sparring match. This was against a 17 year old girl that was Jotaro's friend. He never enjoyed the idea of hitting a woman unless he had to and that only grew with his age. But he also needed to see for himself if Koi could handle what was to come. He knew he needed all the help he could get, but even this for some strange reason felt like a stretch. Joseph remembered his Hamon ability was weak at best until Lisa Lisa and Caesar entered his life.
After starting his new life with Suzie Q, Joseph didn't have much need for Hamon. But it was still there and he could use it if he had to. When gaining his Stand, Hermit Purple, his Hamon ability essentially combined with his Stand. He could still use Hamon separately, but it was mainly back to basics.
18 years ago, Fred Kitsune learned the basic ways of the ancient technique known as Hamon. Now, it was passed down to their daughter, Koi Kitsune. He sighs, remembering how desperate her father was to learn and Joseph could see that same determination in Koi's eyes. She didn't know anything about most of all of this, but now she was more than willing to help with no questions asked. She was desperate to learn and grow, that was for certain.
Joseph found Koi, looking over the Zen garden; deep in thought. For anyone, this was a lot to take in and for Koi, she had little time to grieve her father's death. Now, she was finding out that Koi herself was the intended target of Dio's attack and not her father; making her even more convinced this was her fault even though she wasn't home at the time.
"I know what you are thinking and let me say that this was not your fault" Joseph breaks the silence. Koi kept looking over the garden of the Kujo residence, "I can't help but feel like it is though" Koi states, not making eye contact "If only I was there and I-... I could've helped him. Maybe save him" She adds frustrated.
"Possibly taking his place in dying? Koi, fate and destiny work in mysterious ways. Perhaps learning this was meant to be" Joseph sighs and sits beside her. He knew pain and grief first hand.
"Not like I know where this Bastard is anyhow and not like I can just up and leave Japan... overnight" Koi sighs.
"I am interested in something however Koi. Maybe it will be a good way to get some of that pent up frustration out. A sparring match. Just Hamon and battle experience. Rules are simple, last man standing wins" Joseph offers. "Besides, it will give me an idea just how well your father taught you Hamon." He adds as Koi scoffs.
"You'd clearly win that one in a heartbeat. You are more experienced than me after all." Koi rebuts as she then stands up. "But I suppose it's not a horrible idea. I heard you guys talking a little earlier and I certainly have nothing to lose except my wounded pride." she adds as Joseph chuckles and stands as well.
Joseph and Koi found a spot to do their sparring match within the large property. They made marks equidistant each to each other to signal the edge of the ring. They now stood opposite to each other, ready to Spar. Holly spotted the two curiously. "Is everything okay over there?" Holly asks
Joseph looked over to his daughter and smiled. "Don't worry Holly, just some innocent sparring. Nothing to be worried about" Joseph tries to reassure his daughter. Holly smiles cheerfully, not seeming to mind now before walking off.
"So my guess it's whoever is last man standing in the ring wins?" Koi questions as Joseph nods.
"Though do not expect me to take it easy on you because you're a girl. I'm giving all I got, so I'd recommend you do the same." Joseph adds simply, getting in a fighting position. Koi got into an offensive position, taking a deep breath. Suspense filled the air as Koi suddenly started the fight by running forward, holding two fan-shaped Hamon discs. Koi immediately tried to slice him, but it blocked by Joseph's hand. The delicate but sturdy edge of the Hamon Fan going along his hand.
Joseph realized two things off the bat: Koi's Hamon was mainly melee range by making small weapons and it was a more offensive and aggressive fighting style. If he did take her as a student while on the road, he'd have to teach her a more dynamic fighting style that utilized long and short ranges. He also realized that having a full Hamon user meant one major thing: Although she can't directly harm a Stand, she can fight the user that controls it, which would be a major advantage especially when fighting with Dio.
He also noticed the more they fought, the faster Koi was tired because of her aggressive combat style. She was decent at best at using Hamon, but still had a lot to learn. Almost in a way, reminded him of himself while he was younger. Joseph finally managed to get an opening, hitting Koi in the side strong enough to get her out of the ring.
"Game, Set and Match." Joseph chuckles in victory. Koi sat up and dusted herself off. Joseph walks over to Koi and offers her a hand up. Koi accepts it and stands up.
"You're a good fighter. However, you still have a lot to learn kid." He pats her in the back as a job well done, despite Koi losing. The girl smiled softly in response.
"And before you ask, I'll be your teacher. You'll grow stronger in time with practice and with this old geezer, you'll master it in no time" He laughs as Koi felt relieved to have Joseph as her teacher. She would be a part of whatever this was going to be after all.
Suddenly, another voice came apparent as they said, "If you two are finished, we found out where this guy is hiding." It was Jotaro as he stuffed his hands in his pockets, walking towards the two.
"Oh hey Jotaro." Koi replied softly with a wave.
"Wait, how'd you three figure out where Dio was hiding? The room is super dark from that spirit photo?" Joseph asks curiously, rather puzzled how'd they managed to get a location just from a dark photo.
Jotaro nods "It was a dark room, yes. However, I was able to use my Stand; that's rather precise to draw a picture of what I saw in the background of the photo. "He explains as he shows the very accurate drawing of a fly.
Koi raised an eyebrow, pondering how a Stand could draw in the first place, but was also rather impressed as to how it looked. Joseph also looked rather impressed at how fast Jotaro accepted his Stand.
Koi broke the silence once more, walking towards him, "So, what kind of Fly is it exactly?" she questions to Jotaro curiously, looking to the rather accurate drawing in awe. Jotaro glanced to Koi as he answers, "A Nile Ue Ue Fly. Meaning Dio's in Egypt according to Avdol and his brief research."
Joseph was impressed. They all now had a location to get to Dio and his rough location, Egypt. Next step was to defeat him for good; A task easier said than done.
Koi suddenly lit up excited to tell the good news to her friend, "Oh Jotaro, your grandfather agreed to let me go with you guys to help deal with Dio." Koi smiles as Jotaro subtly chuckles in amusement; seeing his friend so excited to help.
The next morning, it felt strangely calm. Even a little too quiet in the Kujo residence. Koi had slept over that night, her mother reluctantly agreeing but worked with Holly; so Koi's Mother trusted Holly to keep Koi in line. Koi walked out with Jotaro to go to school like it was a usual day. However, it was not the case. Jotaro looked back and Koi stopped and looked back, "You okay Jotaro?" She asks suddenly, rather curious of Jotaro looking back in the dark halls of his house.
Jotaro's eyes narrowed in suspicion, "It's just odd, Mom usually stops me on the way out. She'd usually be up by now..." Jotaro answers softly. Now that Koi thought more on it, Holly seemed like an energetic early bird. She was able to take on anything with a smile on her face and furthermore, Holly Kujo definitely was the kind of Mother to wave her Son goodbye on the way to school. Something definitely felt wrong on this quiet morning.
Koi and Jotaro decided to investigate his mother's disappearance. Was she sick? Tired? Suspense filled every stop before they heard Avdol's panicked voice in the distance and that was enough to get them running to the kitchen to see Avdol holding Holly unconscious in his arms. Although he did not show it, Jotaro was stunned for words. Koi was shocked, eyes widened, walking towards Holly slowly. Koi took a deep breath to keep herself calm as she kneeled beside Avdol, hearing her shallow and heavy breathing. Everything was interrupted by Joseph's sudden cry of grief for his daughter getting inflicted with a sickness... knowing exactly the cause.
Koi felt her forehead gently knowing they needed to act or her fever would get worse. "Jotaro, you mind showing us Ms. Holly's room so we can get her comfortable? Also, I need a rag and cold water. We need to get her fever down, that's priority." Koi states as Joseph darts his attention to her in surprise at how she can be so calm, but also knew she had a point.
Joseph let go of Jotaro's jacket as he nods to Koi's question as Avdol picked up Holly's body to get her comfortable as soon as possible.
After a stressful 20 minutes, Koi took a small sigh, sitting back gently, finishing helping Holly. It would be awhile before Holly woke up, that was certain. "How did you remain so calm while helping Holly?" Joseph breaks the tense silence. Koi looked back to Joseph, "I did panic when I first saw her, I'll be honest on that much. But, when someone has that high of a fever; time is precious Mr. Joestar." Koi answers his question calmly. Koi also added, "My Aunt Hitachi and Uncle Fuji work at Mitsui Memorial Hospital as a nurse and a doctor respectively.
Avdol nods, Koi's reasoning making sense. Medical personnel had to stay calm in high pressure situations. So it was natural for that to be taught to their niece.
Jotaro then breaks the silence once more, "So why did this happen?" he asks as Koi shrugs. However, Joseph and Avdol understood exactly what had happened.
"Holly manifested a Stand." Avdol answers. Koi and Jotaro looking rather surprised. "Isn't getting one a good thing though?" Koi questions.
Joseph sighs softly and shaking his head. "Not in Holly's case." Joseph answers. Avdol adds, "Stands are manifestations of one's will. You need a strong will in order to simply control one. Ms. Holly is a good-natured and gentle person. Although these traits normally are good, they are not good when you manifest a Stand."
Koi looked sadly to Holly as another set of footsteps were heard and it was Kakyoin that made an appearance. "Oh, Kakyoin, I see you're finally up." Joseph greets him.
Kakyoin gave a look of concern to Holly as well, as if he heard the chaos that unfolded minutes ago. Kakyoin remained by the door as he looked over the group.
"I'm not sure if this will make anyone feel better, but if I was old enough; I would marry Ms. Holly. She's a very kind woman Mr. Joestar." Kakyoin tries to break the silence. Joseph felt a little humbled, but was more concerned with his daughter's condition. He looked to Koi, "Koi, I need to ask you a favor. I need you to call someone for me." He states, handing her a phone number on a slip of paper.
Koi took it then looked to Joseph in confusion.
"It's the number for the Speedwagon Foundation. I need you to call them on my behalf so I can be here for Holly when she wakes up. If you wouldn't mind, they can take care of Holly while we are on the way to Egypt." Joseph explains as Koi stands up and goes to find a phone to call the Speedwagon Foundation.
Koi eventually found a phone and called the number that Joseph gave her. It was perplexing and there was so much more to this than Koi anticipated. She took a deep breath, dialing the number and hear it ring.
Within two rings, someone on the other line picks up, "Hello, This is the Speedwagon Foundation. I'm Tsuki, how can I help you?" She asks.
Koi was a little taken aback at the answer, "Oh Hi, I'm calling on behalf of Joseph Joestar. His daughter suddenly got sick and we need a medical team over ASAP." Koi replies.
"Alright, I just need an address to send one over and your name." Tsuki informs. Koi provides the address and her name to Tsuki and then they hang up.
Koi walked back to tell Joseph one was on the way, but also saw Holly was awake and seemed as lively as ever. Holly was smiling and happy as if nothing happened at all while spending time with her father. To Koi, this moment was bittersweet; however, was glad Holly could spend time with Joseph before the Medical Team arrived. Koi gave a subtle nod to Joseph to signal that a medical team was on the way. She then let them have their privacy by not entering the room.
A short while later, Joseph walked out and sighed as the medical team from The Speedwagon Foundation arrived and ran past the group in a hurry to get things set up.
"Oi Jotaro, would you mind if I named your Stand?" Avdol approaches him with a deck of Tarot Cards as Jotaro nods. Jotaro pulls the Major Arcana card, The Star.
"The Star represents Hope. But I will name your Stand, Star Platinum.
"That's such a cool name." Kakyoin replies upon hearing it.
Joseph nods in agreement, "Well everyone. We need to head to the airport to begin our journey" He states. Koi looked to Joseph in confusion, "Wait... we're not heading right to Egypt?" Koi questions. Joseph shakes his head, "We're taking the longest possible path to keep Dio off our trail. We're headed to Hong Kong, but we need to take a plane to get there first" He answers, informing the group as they all took their first steps on their expedition to Egypt.
