Daughter of Black
chapter 7

Sirius could be found sitting in the living room of Black Manor, sipping a glass of Brandy and staring into the fire, deep in thought. It was no secret he missed Harry and Lizzy. The children had already been gone for two days, and he still hadn't received a letter from Hogwarts. Tap tap tap. Sirius broke out of his reverie when he saw Lizzy's beautiful black owl, Obsidian hovering outside the window.
Grinning from ear to ear, he opened the window, allowing the owl entry into the home. The bird landed on the back of the chair, and stuck it's leg out, producing a letter from Lizzy. Sirius sat back down in his high-backed leather chair in front of the fire, and began to read Lizzy's letter.

Dear Daddy,
Please don't hate us, but Harry and i are in Slytherin. I know you're disappointed, but i had to tell you anyway. Harry is terrified that you are going to disown us, but i told him you would never do that. He's still beside himself though. Other than that, things are going great. Ive made a new friend, her name is Pansy Parkinson, and we do everything together. She has a little crush on Harry though, and that gets a bit annoying. I hope everything is going good over there. I would hate to have to leave school because you can't survive without my cooking. Love always.

- Lizzy-

Sirius put down his daughter's letter. It's true that he was a tiny bit disappointed, but he could never hate them. As far as he was concerned, they were the best kids in the world. He essentially wrote that in his reply. Then he tied the letter to the owls leg and gave Obsidian an owl treat as payment. The bird gave him an affectionate hoot, and took off, back into the night sky.
Sitting back down, he smiled, almost sadly at the thought that his kids didn't need him anymore. Then he realized that he was being stupid. Of course they were always going to need him. With that in mind, Sirius downed the last of his glass of fire-whisky, and went to bed.
