The Final Battle Part 2
Kasef and Carol fought bitterly, the former gaining power over the latter. "You really think you can beat me, step-princess?" he goaded. He pushed her back a bit, weapon against weapon.
"Listen Kasef," Carol strained against him. "That mage has manipulated you,"
"More lies. Still believing in fairy tales like your dumb brother and sister,"
Carol roared and swiped at his leg knocking him down. Quickly he rolled back and got back up. She ran to a rock leapt off and 'Fulminus'. The lightning travelled down her hands to the tip of the spear and at the point she pierced the rock, it sent a powerful forcefield of lightning that knocked the prince back. He slammed against the rocks, groaning painfully. His weapon rolled away. She kicked it out of range and pointed the tip under his chin. "You will answer to King Ezran for your crimes. And when that happens, you will be imprisoned for conspiring to kill him and my sister,".
Janai was fighting swiftly when all of a sudden, a sun mage appeared in view. She narrowed her eyes recognising him instantly. Larius growled. They circled one another. "You made a big mistake coming here," she sneered.
"You and I have some unfinished business," he prepared some dark magic but Amaya came and stood beside Janai, knowing she couldn't fight him alone. "You!" She narrowed her eyes recognising him as one of the men who tried to kidnap her niece years ago. "I will destroy both of you!"
He cast spells but the women effectively dodged him, trying to swipe at him but he dodged their swipes with their sword and shield.
Delmar cursed from the rocks as he saw his brother taking on the Sunfire general to help him capture Caroline. He leapt down onto the platform of the plateau. Caelus saw him. "Attack!" they drew ruins but Delmar was too fast.
Carol still keeping the defeated Kasef at the tip of her spear, heard them scream. She turned around and saw Delmar charging towards her. Caelus and his men are frozen, lying limp on the rock surfaces and screaming. Delmar was drawing a ruin too but she reacted quicker, blowing 'Aspiro' at him, knocking him back. He restrained himself almost losing grip of his primal stone. He stood up bewildered by her connection to the Sky Arcanum. "Impossible,"
Carol pointed her spear at him. "What have you done to them?"
"Their blood is only frozen. But I suggest you come with us princess and none of your family will get hurt,"
"What does your cult want me with me?"
"You'll know soon enough," he sneered. "Now we can do this easy way or the hard way,"
"I'll take my chances," Carol spun her spear. "Aspiro Frigis!" she swiped at the ground and ice crawled towards him but he dodged out of the way. He tried a water spell but she dodged that as well. Hiding behind the ice she formed, she peeped out and saw him trying to find her. Quickly she cast the fog spell and Delmar couldn't see anything. But he was too late to react when she sprinted, pierced her spear into the ground, jumped again and whack!
Delmar was knocked off the platform. He landed below with a painful thud and his primal stone rolled out of his hand. He tried to grab it but saw a foot standing on it. Soren smirked. "Say goodbye to your magic Mr. Mage,"
"No!"
Soren stabbed the stone and it exploded into pieces. He was knocked back by the force but when he got up again to try and capture the former ocean mage, he had disappeared out of sight without a trace.
Lairus still couldn't get a clear shot on either of the women but he wasn't giving up. He cast another incantation when Amaya threw her shield and he was knocked back. Then she turned to Janai and nodded; she nodded back. She crouched down, holding her picked-up shield over her head and Janai sprinted, jumped and was hoisted into the air. Then with an accurate throw, she threw the sword straight into Lairus's chest. She landed gracefully down beside her prisoner and they smirked when they saw he was done for. They smiled at one another.
We make a good team. Amaya signed.
"I'll take what you signed as a compliment," Janai chuckled nervously. Their moment of victory was cut off when more elves were taken out by the men and begin
Carol helped the poor men up as the spell wore off. "Are you alright?"
"That was noble fighting, princess," complimented Caelus. They heard the shouts and screams of more soldiers. And then they heard Soren calling to them for help. They looked down and saw that the shield wall was falling down.
"Carol look out!" Soren cried.
Before Carol or the others could react, Kasef came charging back to them and before she could react, he grabbed her by the throat and was lifted up into the air. The Sky Patrol tried to cast spells but he shouted: "Tell your people and dragons to surrender or I squeeze the air out of her scrawny body!"
"Don't give in to him!" begged Sylwa. Her eyes darted right and she glimpsed Caldor being knocked down much to her horror. He was nearly stabbed by a deadly weapon until Warveth, Janai's loyal mage charged in, to protect him. But they were losing the battle. Kasef squeezed tighter, drawing her focus away. She couldn't see them give into him. "Don't do anything he says!"
"Kasef!" shouted Soren down below. "You don't have to do this!"
High above, still avoiding the ballistas, Willow and Pyrrah saw Kasef strangling her sister and she gasped.
"I do!" Kasef roared back down. He looked back at the Sky elves who didn't do anything out of fear of Carol being suffocated to death. "Now tell your people to surrender. Don't test me!" he squeezed tighter.
Ethari saw what was happening and pulled an arrow back again. But then…whoosh!
Kasef was struck in the throat by an arrow. He dropped Carol who Caelus pulled to her feet and they watched her attempted killer fall off the cliff. And in the distance, Carol's heart rose when she saw…. "Ezran!"
Ezran on his horse stood proud and strong with Amaya, armed with a bow beside him. "Ready!" she commanded. "Launch!". Spears and arrows came flying through the air in a loop and in mere seconds, a number of enemy soldiers were knocked down, giving the Sunfire elves a chance to stand back up. Everyone saw their armies approaching. Ezran's followers: Gren, Corvus, Barius, Opeli and the loyalists of Katolis. Aanya and Grark's armies. And the Skywing family and many elves and dragons standing to defend the Spire. Willow saw from below and hope filled her heart again. "Yes!" They had arrived. And just in time.
"Charge!" roared Ezran. They charged into battle aiding their allies. Corvus swung his hook. Gren swiped his sword. Barius threw blinding jelly tarts. Duren's horses knocked them down like pins. Thorten, Dovina and Surah soaring like eagles knocking more down. With fewer dragon-killing weapons, all the dragons that Willow and Ezran had individually brought were able to swoop down and fire again, taking many out.
"The tide is turning!" cheered Janai.
"I love it when you say that," cried out Soren.
"Now's our chance!" shouted Warveth. They roared and charged back into battle. The army was falling. But nothing was prepared for what was coming next.
The cult started making their way up the rocky trails to the plateau. Caldor saw them and started rushing to them. "Carol! Below you!". Quickly the sky patrol banded together and blew them away, shouting: "Fulminus" as well but they were outnumbered greatly. Caelus pushed Carol behind for extra protection. Caldor caught up to them. They recognised him, eying him with bitter hatred for his betrayal. "You will never get to that girl whilst I draw breath,"
Willow saw the confrontation down below and narrowed her eyes. "Nobody hurts my sister!" Pyrrah dived down and blew fire upon them aided by an acid-spitting, an ice-spewing, and a wind-blowing dragon. The cult members were taken down saving Caldor from being overwhelmed. Carol cheered for her sister. Soren, Ethari and Ibis aided them with their weapons, taking many of them down when they were distracted by the dragons. The tide was indeed turning.
Thorten flew over to Ezran, still on a horse, offering his hands. Ezran gladly took them and Thorten flew him to the plateau where he was immediately embraced by his older sister. "I'm so happy to see you!" he cried.
"You made it," she breathed. She then swung him around off his meet and he laughed with delight.
"Looks like we got here just in time," Thorten looked to the Sky patrol and nodded. The other elves cast wings and flew off to aid their allies.
"Thank you Thorten. I am forever in your debt," said Ezran.
Willow landed back beside them and the three children embraced one another. "I'm so proud of you both," Carol said. "And I know mum and dad are too. You've both grown up,"
"We owe all that to you, sis," said Ezran.
"I thought we were gonna lose you," Willow shed a tear. "When Kasef…"
"I'm alright," she promised. They stared at the battlefield and saw the dark armies falling into defeat. They smiled seeing all their elf and human allies and friends defeating a dark enemy together. They had won the battle. Caldor quickly got to them. "Caldor, are you okay?"
"Am I okay? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Thank you," she hugged him tightly and he hugged back.
"Go to Raylan," encouraged Willow. "We'll be okay. You need to get to him and the Dragon Prince. I fear this isn't over yet,"
"Go," encouraged Caldor. "We'll take care of everyone down here. Lairus has been dealt with. Delmar has lost his power. And Castor is down with that dark dragon. The only brother we need to worry about is Telmar. Still, we must look to make none of them have survived,"
"I will take you up," said Caelus. He bowed. "King Ezran,". A dragon came and he mounted pulling Carol, behind him. With a swoop of his wings, the dragon carried them high into the sky.
The sky was now orange and red. The smell of smoke filled the air. Many surviving dark humans were arrested. Amaya embraced Gren who was relieved to see her alive. Then she embraced Caldor who was elated that he had lost none of his friends. Willow and Ezran came before them on Pyrrah and they watched with happy faces as they saw humans helping elves, elves tending to humans, humans freeing dragons and making sure they weren't injured. Peace was prospering around them.
Soren helped free one. "Better to be on the side of unchaining things," he said. The dragon nuzzled him. He giggled. And the kids giggled too.
Ibis and the Skywing family landed before them. "Thank you Thorten," said Ezran gratefully.
"It was my pleasure King Ezran. Good to see you again Princess Willow,"
Ethari came forward with Yonas whose wings were still bruised. "Oh, Yonas…are you okay?" asked Willow as she stumbled towards him.
"I'm alright,"
"Where is Princess Caroline?" asked Dovina.
"She flew back up to join Raylan and Zym," she said. "But we must be aware. I know that this isn't over yet,"
"General Janai!" Warveth came jogging to them. "There is no sign of Viren or his daughter,"
"What of the cult mages?" Amaya signed, Gren translating for her again.
"We have not checked behind the hills or mounds for Castor and his dragon,"
"There's no way they could have survived," said Ethari. "They suffered fatal blows thanks to you princess and your dragon," he said proudly. "You and Pyrrah have such a strong bond which I admire very much,". Willow was quite surprised by his words.
Caldor knew they needed checking. "We have to make sure he's dead,"
"I agree totally," Willow said. "And as long as he's alive, Raylan and Carol will be in constant danger,"
"In the meantime, I will set up another defence around the Spire with the Patrol," Ibis flew off to gather scouts.
"Then we search the entire battle," Janai declared. "We cannot let anyone escape,"
"We still took down many members of the Cult," Caldor said. "Without them, none of my brothers who are still alive will be able to take us on,". Saleer was found and manacled. Opeli shoved him in front of the king and princess who glared at him, making him shrivel. He hadn't realised what strong people they really were.
"Look in our faces, Saleer," Ezran ordered with a soft voice but narrowed eyes. "The faces of the children you tried to kill,"
"King Ezran, what I did, I did for the good of Katolis,"
"He should be punished with death," Opeli insisted indignantly, Corvus and the baker nodding in agreement.
"Let's hang him," The tracker suggested.
"No," degreed Ezran. "I will not do to him what he tried to do to me and Willow. I would rather see him be imprisoned for life than be a bloodthirsty king like Viren wanted to be,"
As you wish," Opeli bowed and Saleer was escorted away by her and Corvus, leaving the others to start searching the entire battlement for the leaders of their enemies.
Raylan waited inside with Zym still at his mother's nest when he heard roaring outside. Quickly he and Felix sprinted towards the entrance hall and they saw Carol entering with a proud smile on her face. With a gleeful smile, he rushed to her and the moment they were in each other's arms, he swung her around and hugged her tightly. Caelus and the dragons remained outside, knowing they needed privacy.
"It's over Raylan," she breathed. "It's all over,"
Pyrrah sniffed around when she saw something that made her growl. Willow looked ahead and saw it was Claudia, cloaked and carrying the corrupted Sun Staff. "Claudia! Stop!" she shouted.
Claudia looked behind and saw the two kids and the dragon chasing her. They chased her behind a huge rock. But when Willow ran towards it, Viren stepped out in the light. She fell back in fright and held the pointy end of his staff over her.
"Don't!" shouted Ezran, the dragon roaring behind him but not making a move yet. "Let her go!"
"Surrender child-king and I will spare her life!"
"Don't listen to him. Finish him, Pyrrah!" begged Willow.
Viren raised the staff higher when Soren came charging onto the scene. "Drop the staff, Father! Leave the princess alone!"
Viren glared at him. "You betrayed me,"
Soren glared back at him. "You left me no choice,"
"Soren wait!" cried his sister. "You're making a mistake!"
"Why are you so loyal to him?" Soren demanded, outraged by her ignorance of Viren's true nature. "Look at everything he's done," he waved at all the fire, the bodies, the debris,
"Your brother's been telling you the truth all along, Claudia," Ezran stood up. "Your father's been filling your head with lies. But it's not too late. You can join us again,"
But Claudia would not listen. And Viren would not back down. "I am a Crownguard," Soren declared. "And I will defend the king and his family because I know exactly what kind of person you really are. You caused King Harrow's death, all the lives of all those humans whose lives you've waited for nothing. Now I am warning you…" he raised his blade higher, channelling all his hatred at the true villain of this war. "Drop your staff and surrender,".
His sister glared. Pyrrah roared at her. Viren growled and raised his staff.
"No!" cried the king but slice.
Viren stumbled back, dropping his staff. Soren pulled back, horrified by what he had done. He dropped the sword stained with blood. Ezran rushed to Willow's side. Pyrrah leapt on Claudia and pinned her down. The children saw how crushed the Crownguard was. Ezran clasped his shoulder. "It wasn't your fault, Soren. He brought this on himself,"
"Thank you," said Willow. She is in debt to the boy. "It's over now. It's over,"
"Not quite," Claudia's voice echoed in their ears. But it wasn't coming from under Pyrrah's claws. They turned their heads and they saw her standing thirty paces away from them, smirking. They gasped. The forms of Viren and the Claudia under the claws of the confused dragon disappeared, revealing moon moths.
"Illusions!" cried Willow.
Quickly Soren picked up his sword again and pointed it towards her. "Where is he?"
"The real battle was never down here. It was up there. All of this was just a distraction,"
Ezran and Willow gasped. Carol and Raylan were in trouble. Before anyone could react, Claudia pulled something from her pocket, crushed it, shouted a spell and blew it over them. They became consumed by drowsiness and fell to the floor. Caldor arrived on the scene and saw what had happened. His heart trembled with fright.
Caelus and the dragons remained on the lookout. A shadow loomed close by.
Raylan checked on Carol to make sure she wasn't hurt when he saw red finger marks on her neck. "Are you…"
"I'm okay. A crazy prince nearly strangled me. But I'm alright," she assured, touching his cheek. They leaned to each other lips.
Carol. Zym chirped, accidentally interrupting their attempted kiss, and bounded over to her and into her arms along with Felix.
"I'm here buddies. It's over. It's all over," she promised. The Adoraburrs jumped for joy and Bait croaked happily.
"Not quite," spooked a booming voice. They turned around to see Viren entering the hallway. They were horrified when they saw him dump Caelus's unconscious body on the floor just in front of the entrance. Zym hid behind Felix who activated his heat mode and snarled at the approaching dark mage. Bait and the Adoraburrs huddled into a corner.
Raylan and Carol held out their blades. "Don't you come a step closer!" the elf warned.
"How pathetic you both are," Viren's eyes were glowing purple like the extremely long star-themed caterpillar coiled like a snake around his neck and chest as dark magic marred his face. "To risk your lives for a puny little dragon,"
"That dragon is more humane than you will ever be. And if you are still intent on doing him harm…then you will have to kill us first," Carol declared bravely.
"You're a disgrace to humanity you pathetic mongrel. The Dragon King killed your mother,". He pointed at Raylan who snarled at him. "Then this creature's kind killed your step-father who was foolish to spoil you, treat you like one of his own,"
"No. You killed him. With your hatred, your arrogance and your inability to recognise how your actions cause more pain than good,"
"Everything I have ever done has been for the good of our people,"
"You didn't bring this dark army just to keep humanity safe. This has everything to do with your addiction to cruelty and obscenity," Raylan acknowledged seeing how this man was a man who called himself 'a king' despite his wicked ways. "You will never get your hands on Zym. We will stop you, Viren. Just like my parents did,"
Viren was confused by his words but then realised something. "So, the only elves who stayed behind to try and stop me were your parents? I should have seen the resemblance. They didn't stop me from achieving anything. They failed and lost,"
"They fought to the end to save Zym. Just like we will," Carol stood her ground. Felix snarled more. Zym was petrified for his friends who were standing strong to protect him.
"Tell me what you did to them," demanded Raylan.
"I don't need to. You'll be joining them soon enough," Viren cackled.
Though he held his pose, Raylan felt tears burning in his eyes; were they gone? "No," he breathed hoarsely. "It can't be,"
Carol glared darker at Viren. "You're a monster," A tear dripped from her chin.
"I wanted to do this the easy way. But it seems like I have no choice," he declared. His staff glowed and the teens leapt into battle to defend the Dragon Prince.
"Guys!" Caldor found the others. "We have to hurry! Viren is up there!"
Amaya gasped, fearing for her niece. "Raylan," Ethari turned pale. He was facing the same dark mage that had battled his parents and certainly had something to do with his missing mate's fate. "I never should have left him,"
Ibis flapped his wings to gather the dragons.
"Warveth, find that girl!" ordered Janai to her mage.
Warveth nodded and shot off with several soldiers far behind him. Sunus and his dragon joined them as well. The former moon mage rushed back over to the sleeping twins and started looking through his bag for herbs.
"We have to hurry," panicked Ethari.
"What do you think I'm doing?" he argued. Ethari started helping him search for herbs till he finally found a magical waking-up herb that could wake them up instantly. They crushed it and blew its magical scent over the children and the dragon. And they woke up in seconds.
"You've got to get up to them!"
