As Somber ran over to the small respite - a cobblestone wall - where he stood behind so that he wouldn't be burnt to a crisp by the drake, residing on top of the neighboring tower, he waited for the drake to come down so he could fight it.

He had never really thought about fighting a dragon before, but hey. First time for everything. As he thought of this, the drake suddenly took flight, and as it did so did Somber, meaning he took off, running to the place where the fire drake was intending to land. Only for it to be stabbed in its bottom by a very sharp broadsword. Satisfied with the wound he inflicted on the drake, Somber leapt back, as the dragon swiped at the place he stood only a second ago with its claws.

He rushed back into action, gracefully avoiding the strikes of the dragon as he ran next to its legs and jumped up, bringing his broadsword high above his head and bringing it down with his full strength onto the dragon's tail, severing it.

With a mighty cry, the dragon's tail fell off, and Somber noticed something in the corner of his eye; he paid it no mind as he went for the opening. The dragon was in agonizing pain. He leapt once again, stabbing the dragon in the leg, and delivering two calculated slices to its damaged limb.

He leaped back as the dragon breathed fire once more; then, once it was done, he ran back in and went for the kill. He jumped and impaled the dragon's belly on his broadsword as it fell limp, dead.

Somber began to breathe heavily as he had just used all his might to bring down the dragon, mostly unscathed. Aside from some burns on his sabatons, he was fine.

As he walked over to the dragon's tail lying there on the bridge, he fully took in what he had seen earlier. A large, black sword stuck out of it. Somber pulled on the sword and took it out of the flesh. The blade was covered in blood, which he swiped to the side. The blade felt perfectly balanced in his hand; it fit comfortably, as if it had always belonged there.

As he walked into the sunlit altar's interior, he glanced upon the statue but paid it no attention; instead, he lit the bonfire and then rested down beside it, eventually falling asleep.

After a couple of hours had passed, he woke up to an unpleasant feeling in his back. It was only to be expected from lying on bricks. He got up and stretched before walking over to the obvious lever and pulling it, opening the small gate next to it. As he walked up and battled the hordes of hollows and the armored boars, he found himself on top of the cathedral, seeing Solaire's bright summon sign, he decided to call upon him.

As Solaire's phantom appeared, it did a pose, which Somber found quite funny and snickered a bit behind his helm before continuing with Solaire to the rooftop of the cathedral.

As the duo walked across the rooftop, a gargoyle suddenly dropped down onto it and attacked them; however, Solaire and Somber quickly began to dispatch it. Solaire unleashed lightning spears at it while Somber evaded its attacks and used his new weapon against it.

As their relentless attack continued, a second gargoyle dropped down from the bell tower, this one seemed to breathe fire, which Somber found out the hard way, having his back burnt he let out a cry of pain, as he leapt forward, driving his sword hard on the ground, causing a black flame wall to spike from the site of the hit, and continuing through the first gargoyle finishing its life.

As he turned around to face the fire-breaking gargoyle, he looked over to Solaire as he threw another lightning spear over at the gargoyle, creating an opening. Somber quickly ran over and struck it with a devastating attack, killing it.

As the last gargoyle was slain and Solaire's phantom disappeared, Somber caught his breath and took a sip of estus; his burn wounds had been magically healed, and he continued into the tower, ringing the bell.

Somber made his way back to Firelink Shrine and told the crestfallen knight that he was the one who rang the bell. The knight made a sarcastic comment that Somber paid no attention to as he returned to the Undead Burg.

After wandering for some time, entering the lower undead burg, saving a few undead, fighting a demon and his dogs, entering the depths, slaying a disgusting creature akin to a dragon, and wandering around Blighttown, careful not to fall or get stabbed by the disgusting creatures that resided there, he found himself in Quelaag's Domain.

As he entered the cave, he took note of the hollows with disgusting egg sacs on their backs. He entered a rather large portion of the cave. He heard thumping coming from the opposite side of the cave; as a large spider, and a woman half-merged with it, came into view. Somber recoiled a bit at the sight, but after seeing the gaping maw of the dragon in the depths, he had become somewhat desensitized.

As he came closer to the Spider Lady, its spider began to spew hot lava everywhere, and the woman began to attack with a fiery sword of her own. Dodging the attacks and focusing on harming the woman instead of the spider, Somber managed to damage Quelaag enough for the spider to spew lava everywhere, creating distance between him and the lava as he backed away from getting melted.

Somber noticed this and attempted to get around to Quelaag once more, only to be hit with her straight sword attack; he had gotten too cocky. As he flew back, he took a large sip of Estus and ran back, following up with the black flame attack he had used on the Gargoyles. It appeared to be very effective as the Witch Quelaag fell.

Somber collapsed from all the movement and took a quick moment to catch his breath before continuing and ringing the second Bell of Awakening, then lighting a bonfire.

As he made his way back, he found himself in a small building, where a hammer clanked against steel as it struck the anvil. He descended the stairs to check it out and discovered a blacksmith. He handed the blacksmith his blade, which was reinforced with dragon scales, and continued on his way toward the large gate on the other side of the building.

As he reaches it, and enters he is met with two serpent warriors which he dispatches; moving on from the room he is met by a narrow bridge, three swinging blades and more serpent men.

Somber decides to just run past them, not intending to fight on the narrow bridge or around those large swinging blades. In his haste, he runs and is crushed by a boulder, breaking most of his ribs. He quickly heals with estus.

Once he reached the top of the fortress, he dispatched the hollows there and fought the smaller giant, which threw fireballs at him as he was making his way. After dispatching all the threats, he made his way onto the large battle arena to face the giant iron golem.

Somber's strategy is to throw the Iron Golem off-balance and knock him off of the fortress so that he falls to his death. Which he does effectively. And before he knows it, two Batwing Demons are carrying him high above the clouds.

A/N: For those who think I'm telling the story here too fast, just know that this is all just a flashback. We aren't even in the main story yet. (It was mentioned in the first line of the first chapter come on…)
