KC and Jaxon were sitting together in his truck. KC looked at him and smiled.

"Happy 16th," KC told Jaxon.

"Thank you, my beautiful wife," he said, returning the smile. "Are you sure you're up for the hike?"

"Yes," KC replied.

They got out of his truck and started on the trail. As they walked, KC ended up wandering off the path. Jaxon got to a stopping point and looked behind him and didn't her.

"KC?" He called out. He ran his hand through his hair as he said "Did I just lose my wife??"

"Hey," she said as she reached him. He jumped a bit. "Sorry, I was picking these for you." She held out her hand that was holding fresh-picked flowers.

He took them from her.

"Thank you," he told her. He smelled them. "I always appreciate these."

"Boys deserve to get flowers too," she told him. She strung her arm around his and held on. They continued walking and she picked more as they walked.

When they got home, he asked what she wanted to eat for dinner.

"Tacos," KC replied.

"That's kind of funny that it's a pregnancy craving for you," he said.

"Can we have them?" She pleaded. "Pleeeease."

"Anything you want," he told her.

He started making the food as his pregnant wife started watching a movie. She paused it.

"Do you want any help?" She questioned.

"No, I got it," he said as he was cooking the ground beef.

"It doesn't feel right not helping you," she stated.

"You took care of yourself for 6 years," he said. "You cooked for yourself and that asshole and did everything while he did nothing."

"Jax, you know it's not right to–"

"Curse against someone, I know," he acknowledged her, "but to me, it's warranted with him." He started cutting up the tomatoes for the pico de gallo. "Please let me take care of you and Lucas Aaron. You don't have to do anything all by yourself anymore."

"When are your mom and Lucas coming?"

"They should be here soon," he said.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. KC answered the door and saw her mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

"Hey," she greeted them with hugs.

"Hey, how are you doing?" Rachel questioned, referring to her pregnancy.

"I'm doing good," she replied, " we're doing good."

"What are we having?" Lucas inquired.

"Tacos," Jaxon replied.

"Is dad coming?"

"He got tied up at work," Jaxon replied. "We're gonna do something tomorrow."

"I think he just doesn't wanna see me," Lucas disagreed.

They sat at the table and started putting together their tacos.

"How's your first month of school been?" KC asked Lucas, changing the subject.

"Good, I guess," Lucas said.

"He's made some good friends," Rachel stated. "Including your sister." She pointed at KC.

"Really?"

"Yeah," Lucas confirmed. "Her, Riley, and Farkle."

"Farkle?" KC questioned. "Isn't that a dice game?"

"I know it's kind of a weird name," he said, "but it fits him."

"Well, there's a friend I think he may like more than the others," Rachel said. Lucas blushed.

"You have a crush?" KC asked. "It's not my sister is it?"

"No, it's her best friend, Riley," he replied.

"Are you gonna ask her out?" Jaxon inquired to his brother.

"I'm not you," Lucas stated.

"Well, yeah, it's not exactly common for a 9-year-old to get a girlfriend," Jaxon reflected, "but you're 13, that's a normal age to start dating." He looked at his mom. "At least that's how I think about it."

"Just don't marry her yet," Rachel joked. Everyone laughed. She looked at Jaxon. "I think he's just not ready for that."

"I don't know if I'm ready," Lucas admitted.

"Then you're probably not," KC said.

"Okay," Lucas replied. "I just like being friends for now."

"And that's okay," Rachel said. "I'm glad you expressed that to that girl a couple of weeks back."

"What girl?" KC asked.

"There's a girl that was in our class that transferred out of our class after I turned her down," Lucas said. Everyone was looking at him. "Her name was Missy. I think she was my age or maybe even KC's. I'm not sure. She kept trying to make moves on me, pretty much made me sit with her at lunch, and tried to take me away from my friends. She even pulled up her skirt to show me her leg."

"I'm sorry… what?!" KC questioned. "That is so inappropriate!"

"She wanted to take me to the movies," Lucas said. "But I told her if my friends couldn't go then I wasn't going either."

"Sounds like she wanted to do more than just go to a movie, Luke," Jaxon said.

"Like what?" Lucas innocently asked.

Silence settled in the room for about 15 seconds.

"How you, um….make a baby," Jaxon replied, motioning to his pregnant wife.

"Oh my God," he exclaimed. He looked at his mom. "I promise I wouldn't have."

"I know," Rachel replied. "Don't do that until you're ready."

"Yeah, we waited until then," KC replied. "I wouldn't want you with that girl even without that, she sounds really possessive and clingy."

"Yeah," Lucas agreed.

After a few hours, Lucas and Rachel left.

KC opened the fridge and saw a small cake.

"Jax!" She yelled.

"What's wrong?" He questioned hurrying over.

"We forgot the cake," she said.

He smiled and wrapped his arms around her.

"We'll just eat it together," he said.

" All of it?" She questioned.

"If you want," he shrugged. He let go of her and took the cake out. He took the top off as KC shut the fridge door. He got some of the frosting on his finger and put it on her nose. She smiled and giggled. She got some and traced it down his face. They both laughed.

Jax leaned down, towards her and they kissed. He held her by his arm wrapped around her waist, and he put the cover back on the cake. He pulled her to the living room and put some music on and they danced together. They kissed again, but this time, he picked her up went to their bedroom.

Later in the night, they were sitting in their bed, eating cake and cuddling.

"Happy birthday, Jaxon," KC told her husband.

"It was perfect," he told her.

August 10th, 2024

KC stared at her Eras Tour Taylor Swift ticket as they got to the stadium. She with Auggie, Ava, and Baily went to Austria which was pitched-in by everyone.

She sang with Ava as Taylor performed "Bigger Than The Whole Sky". Then a "Speak Now" vault track, "Timeless", followed. As she listened to Taylor sing, her mind went to Jaxon.

School lovers laughin' on the porch of their first house/ The kinda love that you only find once in a lifetime

KC walked down the aisle to Jaxon. She will always be the love of his life, and he will always be her first.

You would've been fine/ We would have been timeless

"Jax got in an accident…he's gone."

I had to smile when it caught my eye/ There was one of a teenage couple in the driveway/ Holdin' hands on the way to a dance

KC and Jaxon dancing when he turned 16 entered her mind.

Which brought me back to the first time I saw you/ Time stood still like somethin' in this old shop

"Hey, are you okay? What's your name? I'm Jaxon and this is my brother Lucas "

That's when I came upon a book covered in cobwebs/ Story of a romance torn apart by fate

His funeral resurfaced in her mind.

Time breaks down your mind and body/ Don't you let it touch your soul

KC touched her open heart necklace that had a picture of Farkle and her children on one half and a picture of Jaxon on the other and didn't remove it until the end of the song.
