The military's attempt to capture Dr. Walsh's creation left two people dead, several injured and the knowledge that their blasters fed it's energy reserves. Which meant that just as Xander had said, the Scooby Gang now had to deal with it.
"Xander do you still have the rocket launcher we used against the Judge?" Giles asked.
"No, I returned it. When they inventory the armory they can overlook missing ammunition, they can't overlook missing weapons. So we have to come up with a different way to take this thing out."
"What about Magic?" Willow suggested.
"Possibly." Jenny said. "But we need to be careful. There are demon parts in that thing and Magic has different effects on different demons and we don't know, besides the Pogara skewer that we saw it use on the soldiers, which demons. So broad spells would be best. But I don't have a lot of power. We'd be better off with multiple spellcasters."
"Amy still does Magic." Xander said. "She was born to it, so she can't just turn it off, even after what her mother did to her. She may be willing to help. I could ask her."
"Tara does Magic. She was born to it too." Willow said.
"Who's Tara?" Cordelia asked.
"She's a girl I met when the gentleman were here killing people, when we first found out about Riley. We hid in a commissary room together. She used Magic to shield us. I could asked her if she'd be willing to help."
"That's a good idea. Why don't you two go do that and we'll look up spells that might help." Giles suggested.
Xander and Willow left to do so and the others began searching for usable spells.
"What about a containment spell?" Cordelia asked. "This book has a lot of them listed. Maybe if we contain it, it'll buy us enough time to try a spell to fight it."
"Let me see." Jenny said, holding out her hand. "This one I know, Caroline's Grasp. It's quite powerful and should hold quite awhile, especially if three people are powering it. Yes, this is a good idea. Cordelia's right it could buy us time, especially since casting another spell will take time. At the very least, it'll hold it for a good long while, hopefully. So if our attempt to destroy it fails, we can try something else."
"Here's a spell that requires three people to do it." Faith said, holding out the book to Jenny.
"Kurzon Vanquishing Spell. I've never heard of this one. It's specific to a Kurzon, but we could modify it to this creature. Didn't they say that Dr. Walsh named it Adam?" Jenny asked.
"Yeah, Riley did." Buffy answered.
"Okay, so if I modify it to be specific to Adam in some way, this just might work. Let me see if I can modify it."
Xander and Willow arrived back with Amy and Tara in tow, both having agreed to help. Jenny showed them the spells and modification and they both agreed that they stood a good chance of working. Now they just needed to find Adam.
A visit to Willy brought the news that Adam was in a cave outside of town, so gathering their supplies and weapons, in case the spells didn't work or Adam had managed to gather minions, the gang set out to find him. Once they did, Jenny, Tara and Amy quickly cast the containment spell.
"Contrixi deficio." And threw the spell ingredients at him.
The gang watched as a semi transparent box formed around Adam. He tried to push against it and when that didn't work, hit it repeatedly, which also didn't work.
"Quick, try the vanquishing spell!" Giles said.
The spellcasters began to chant.
"Adam, human, demon and machine
Hell threw you from it's inner core
But Earth won't hold you anymore
Since Heaven cannot be your place
Your flesh and blood we now erase!"
And the gang watched, awed, as the demon and human parts disappeared, leaving the machine parts to drop to the ground. Which unfortunately, included a small nuclear powered battery that none of them had known was there.
Amy quickly called out another spell.
"Let the object of objection become but a dream
As I cause the scene to be unseen.
The battery she was looking at disappeared. Xander nudged his foot where had been and found nothing.
"Nicely done, ladies!" He congratulated them.
"Yes, indeed, very nicely done." Giles told them.
The gang helped their resident witches out of the caves, as they were drained after the castings.
They reported to Riley that they'd destroyed Adam. Mayor Finch's complaints regarding the military operating without authorization in Sunnydale led to the Initiative being shut down and several arrests, including the military personnel, who were court martialed. Mayor Finch told the gang, it was found that Dr. Walsh had been drugging them without their knowledge to increase their stamina and strength. Since the drugs weren't affecting their brains, it didn't mitigate their actions. They were all dishonorably discharged and sentenced to Leavenworth for their actions.
Buffy sourly noted that she seemed unable to find a non evil boyfriend or at least one that wasn't an idiot. Connie told her to try dating within her own age group, she might have better luck and that she still needed to work on her daddy issues.
A few weeks later, Willow surprised them all by announcing that she and Tara were now dating. Xander's response?
"Hey, if you're happy, we're happy. Welcome to the family, Tara."
She smiled her shy, quiet smile and thanked him.
