Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – VGA 2011 Trailer
By Jamie Christopherson
"Our galaxy consists of some 300 billion stars. Around half are orbited by planets, and it is said that on average, conditions on two of a star's planets are suitable for life."
A teenage girl with braided violet hair is shown in a war-torn street, holding a combat knife in her quivering hand. Hiding behind a makeshift barricade, she waits for an enemy to expose themselves.
"No great leap of imagination is needed to believe the universe must be home to a myriad of life forms. But what sorts of intelligence would develop on these worlds? That is truly beyond our imagination."
The same girl from before, now a young adult, is within a virtual environment, shooting polygonal targets in some kind of training exercise. As time goes on, the movement of the targets becomes more complex and elaborate, but the woman adjusts to the change of pace.
"What's more, we cannot say that our universe is the only universe. At the quantum level, until a wavefunction collapses upon observation, Schrödinger's cat is alive and dead as a superposition of states."
The woman, now clad in a sneaking suit, is traversing the metal hallways of an industrial structure. Pistol in hand, she stealthily glides along the wall, checking for enemies and other hindrances to her mission. She takes aim at a soldier and pulls the trigger.
"The moment observation occurs, the two possibilities branch into separate worlds, with the universe continuing to split infinitely."
The woman, now sporting a cybernetic body, runs across a rooftop in a rural area. Jumping from building to building, she hopes to catch up with her objective before time runs out. She draws a blade at her hip and jumps down towards the mechanical bipedal walkers in the street below.
"If the universe splits without end, it's possible it could eventually recreate scenes from history. And if these moments played out differently, it wouldn't negate what happened in our reality – a paradox would simply mean another future."
The cyborg woman lands in the city streets, skyscrapers looming above. She hears the sound of sirens and prepares herself for battle. A voice behind her shouts.
"The following is one possible story in one possible universe, born of a paradox, where a person from another world takes the place of someone from ours."
She slashes behind her, the blade now stained red with blood. Her eye opens, revealing a sinister glare.
Raiden Shogun: "Let's get this over with."
The visor on the Raiden Shogun's head closes shut, and she rushes into the fight.
WHEN THUNDER ROARS
The Raiden Shogun is surrounded by enemy combatants, armed with blades of their own. She swiftly runs from one enemy to the next, delivering an onslaught of strikes from the sword she carries.
LIGHTNING WILL STRIKE
One of the enemies attempts to catch her off-guard, but his sword strike is parried, leaving him vulnerable. She proceeds to cut her opponent into pieces, seemingly in slow motion.
SPARKS WILL FLY
Now stuck between two combatants with blades, Raiden deflects their attacks while attempting her own counterattack. A mechanical walker charges into the battle and attempts its own attack with one of its legs, which is severed by the cyborg woman.
THE STORM APPROACHES
The Shogun is slicing another assailant to ribbons, ending her barrage of slices with an upwards slash that send her enemy's bloody pieces flying away. The walker from before, now vulnerable, is finished in a similar matter.
AND THE ENFORCER OF ETERNITY
A giant mechanical behemoth bursts out of an adjacent body of water, roaring as it lands.
WILL RISE TO THE CHALLENGE
Raiden Shogun runs toward the towering robot, which now has a blade extended from one of its arms.
Raiden Shogun: "This world is so vastly different from everything I've seen in Teyvat… And its terrors are unlike anything I have ever faced…"
The robot swings its enormous arm-blade, which is stopped by the Shogun with her own blade.
Raiden Shogun: "But my pursuit of Eternity will not end here. I shall overcome this trial, and find the answers I seek. And none shall stand in my way."
With the power of her cyborg body, Raiden deflects the giant blade before grabbing the arm it is attached to, then lifting the entire mecha off its feet. She then swings it by its arm and throws it in the air, jumping up onto its arm, and slicing it while running down. As she reaches the end of the robot's limb, she leaps once more before bringing her blade down on its joint, severing the mechanical limb.
METAL GEAR SHOGUN
BGM end
Cut to another scene, atop a historic building in a city. The Raiden Shogun is turned away.
?: "We meet again. It's been a while, hasn't it…?"
She looks in the direction of the voice.
?: "Jacqueline, my dear…!"
It's time for the start of a new FanFiction project! If you're wondering what happened to Quake: Semblance of Champions, I recently got a new job, and I simply lost my motivation for writing Q:SoC. However, I'm much more into the Metal Gear Solid games, including Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. While some of you may not like Genshin Impact or Raiden Shogun, I feel like this idea could be executed well depending on how it's handled. Another thing, I'm not gonna be able to get to the MGR stuff until much later, so just be patient. I'll actually try to write something this time around, so don't worry!
