Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon or it's characters... but I guess Spireon is mine.
Note: I wanna have a serious word with you guys before you read this story. First of all, I don't know how cannon any of this information is. I loved Pokemon: Indigo league when I was growing up , however it's been a hot minute since I last watched the show. I know that Pokemon is such a huge fandom, and I feel like I'm sorta of fish out of water for this kind of thing.
See, it's just that I normally, before I even get an idea for a fanfic, I finish up the whole show beforehand. You know, to see how they wrap up the series; if nothing else, I'm a sucker for a good ending. Anyways, my sister and I started playing Pokemon: Shield, and I remembered how much I use to love creating new Eevees. Now I don't have my old sketches or notes, so I'm gonna have to recreate them. Last night I recreated my Ghost-Eevee, Spireon.
I think to better understand my Eevees, I gotta write a story with them. Now I will not claim to be a expert in Pokemon. I can't even if I wanted to, I have trouble remembering all the details of Indigo League, to be completely honest. I hope that if you continue this story, you don't constantly correct me and complain about my story not being 100% accurate. I just thought it would be nice to give my Eevees a home. A place where they won't be forgotten again. And maybe you'll enjoy taking this journey with me.
Chapter 1,
There once was a young boy named Kuro. He lived in a small town named Mai, with his mother and father. His father worked in the fields, growing plenty of food for people and Pokemon alike. His mother helped at the local poke center, and he helped her whenever he could. From a young age, he loved learning about different Pokémon and their evolutions. But the one Pokemon he loved the most, was Eevees. It inspiring that something so normal could grow up to be a unique creature. Though in Mai, it wasn't that easy to find Eevees.
"One day I'm gonna grow up and be an Eevee Master." Young Kuro use to tell his mother, Ali. Her warm laughter rung in his ears.
"I've never heard of an Eevee Master. What does an Eevee Master do?" She asked and Kuro smiled boldly.
"First I will breed thousands of Eevees so people can adopt them. And once I have my shop all done, I'm gonna be an expert on evolving Eevees all over the globe." Kuro said.
"All over the globe? Isn't that sure a big job?" His mother asked and Kuro shrugged.
"Maybe, but Pokémon look different in each region. They are slightly different. Like the Galar Meowth looks different then a Alola Meowth, or a Kanto one, or a Unova one... Eeveea should look different depending on their region too." Kuro said and his mother giggled.
"Sweetie, I'm not sure Eevees work that way. Sure they can turn into Glaceon and Flareon, but I don't think they change depending on their region." His mother said and Kuro blinked.
"I think they would. I mean, how else can you get a dragon Eevee or a bug Eevee?" Kuro said and his mother ruffled his hair.
"I love your ambition. It's just that... as far as I know, Eevees can't evolve into dragon and bug type Pokémon. And I don't think their species changes in different regions either. I could be wrong, but I hope you're not putting too much pressure on the little guys. They already have a lot of people asking a lot of them." Ali said and Kuro blinked.
"What do you mean?" Kuro asked and she sighed.
"Well... sometimes people will get an Eevee so that they can get a specific evolution. Say they want to get a Sylveon, but their Eevee turns into Jolteon instead. They may give up on that Pokémon entirely, simply because they didn't get who they wanted. It's sad, really." She said and Kuro blinked.
"Oh. Well, I wouldn't do that. I would hate for an Eevee to feel unloved for turning into a different evolution their owners wanted." Kuro said and his mother smiled.
"That's good to know." She said.
Little Kuro was about 7 when this conversation happened. Since then, his love of caring for Pokemon only grew. The only thing he didn't really understand was why so many people had to fight to get their Pokemon. There was so many different Pokemon, Surely there must have been an easier way of collecting Pokemon. Not that he really knew how that would work, several wild Pokemon don't want to have owners. His father thought that he was insane for wanting to find a more friendly way capture Pokemon.
"You're ten years old now, Kuro! You got a license and no Pokemon, what kind of man are you?" His father, Cypher, said.
"I just think there has got to be a better way of collecting Pokemon." Kuro said.
"Better? This is the way we've been getting Pokemon for thousands of years. We love them, they love us, but we gotta fight to get them." Cypher said and Kuro shook his head.
"Just because it's traditional, doesn't mean that it's correct." Kuro said and Ali walked into the room.
"Cy, I think you've had a long day. Perhaps you should call it an early night." Ali said, gently placing her hand on Cypher's shoulder.
"Get you're hand off me woman!" Cypher said, pushing her away. Kuro gasped, but bit his lip to keep quite.
"Of course I'm tired. I had to go out and hunt down that stupid gift for my boy. Now after all of that work, I refuse to go to bed before I give him his present." Cypher said and he turned around. He reached behind the desk and grabbed a cage. When Cypher spun around, Kuro gasped. The cage contained a beat-up Eevee, who was too weak to lift his head.
"Cypher! What happened?" Ali said and Cypher glared at him.
"What happened is that you wanted to get Kuro here an Eevee for his birthday. As it so happens, this little thing has been ruining our crops for weeks. Imagine my luck when I realize that it's an Eevee. I hunted this thing for hours, before it got caught in a trap. Believe me boy, you want a Pokemon who can last in a fight. This little guy is sure to evolve into a real protector one day." Cypher said and Kuro's eyes watered when his father handed him the cage.
"M-mom? Is it gonna be ok?" Kuro asked.
"It ain't gonna die, if that's what you mean." Cypher said and Kuro glared at him.
"Oh, don't give me that look. You wanted an Eevee, and now you got one. And I never could have gotten it from simply asking it to go home with me." Cypher said and Kuro huffed. He picked up the Eevee and tried to walk out of the room.
"Hey! Aren't you gonna thank your old man for that gift, big man?" Cypher said and Ali tucked some hair behind her ear.
"You want some birthday cake? You haven't had any yet?" Ali said and Kuro turned.
"Thank you for my present dad. And I think I would like to go to my room and play with my new Eevee. Maybe I'll have some cake later." Kuro said and then he walked to his room. He set the Pokemon on his bed and opened the cage door.
"You can leave if you're strong enough?" Kuro whispered. The Eevee looked at him, but didn't move at all. Kuro sighed and he went over to his backpack. He pulled out a container of Pokemon food.
"Mom lets me have some food so that I can feed some of the Pokemon in the park on my way home. This is suppose to be an all-around food. Normal, electric, fire. Maybe you will like some?" Kuro said. He pulled out some food and he held it up to the Eevee's mouth. The Eevee pursed his lips and Kuro sighed.
"I know my dad didn't make the greatest impression. I'm not like that. He just... has a hard time working a job he hates." Kuro said and he picked up a water bottle.
"Maybe you'd like something to drink instead?" Kuro asked. He filled the water cap with some water and handed to the Eevee. It opened it's mouth and Kuro reached in and helped the little creature eat.
"There you go." Kuro said, with a smile on his face. He poured another cap-fill and Eevee drank that as well. Then Kuro heard the Eevees stomach growl.
"Will you eat something now?" Kuro asked, he held the piece of food back up to the Eevee, but it was still reluctant.
"I know it may not be what you are use to. But quite honestly it's the only food I have on me right now. I can get something better tomorrow, but right now, this is the best I can do." Kuro said. This time when he gave the food to the Eevee, it took a bite.
"Honey?" Kuro turned and saw his mother walking over to him.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know your father would do that." She said and she bit her lip.
"We better take her down to the pokecenter. Those cuts don't look too bad, but we shouldn't risk them getting infected." Ali said, picking up the cage.
"It's a girl?" Kuro asked as they walked out of the house.
"Yeah. The tail is a dead give away." She said as they climbed into the car.
"How's that?" Kuro asked and Ali smiled.
"See it's tail? That white patch at the end. If the tail has a jagged pattern, then it's a boy. However yours has a curvy pattern, which means that it is a girl." She said and Kuro looked at the Eevee.
"You're gonna be ok little girl. I promise." Kuro said.
Kuro took care of Eevee for weeks. He and his mother nursed Eevee and cared for her until she was fully healed. Kuro even tried to release Eevee after she got better. But Eevee stayed with him. He would play with Eevee and then she would curl up on Ali's lap for a quick nap before Cypher got home. Eevee never did get friendly with him. Cypher always said that was fine, because Eevee wasn't his Pokemon. Not that he wanted some fluffy thing for a pet anyways. Kuro had grown distant from his father.
And this distant wasn't mended when his mother got sick. For months he took over Ali's shifts at the pokecenter, while Eevee kept Ali company. Eevee did her best to keep Ali comfortable. Bringing her food and drinks from the kitchen. Making sure she stayed warm while she slept. Eevee would even run into town on occasion to pick up some medication for Ali. Eevee cared for her, the same way Ali cared for her years ago. Though Ali's illness couldn't be healed. By the time Kuro was 13, he had to bury his mother.
"I'm sorry for your loss."
"I loved your mother very much."
"Ali will be missed."
"She was a light in this town."
Cypher couldn't handle the passing of his wife. He started drinking. Heavily. When he started causing accidents at the farm, he should have been fired. However, his boss was an old friend of Cypher and kept him around regardless of Cypher's behavior. Eevee was very sad as well. Their town didn't allow Pokemon in the graveyard, and so Eevee didn't get to the funeral. Kuro looked at Eevee, sitting sadly at the fireplace, and it broke Kuro's heart.
"Forget the rules, Eevee." Kuro said. He went over to Eevee and picked her up.
"You loved mom just as much as I did. You deserve a chance to say goodbye." Kuro said and Eevee's eyes watered. It was late. Most of the town was in bed. It was easy to walk through town unseen. He snuck past the cemetery groundskeeper, and down to Ali Shipton's grave.
"Here, Eev. Take as much time as you need." Kuro said and Eevee hesitantly walked over to Ali's tombstone. And before long, Eevee started to cry. She dropped several tears on the ground, and when a small puddle formed, she laid on top of it. She kept crying, and Kuro noticed a light coming from Eevee.
"Eev, are you ok?" Kuro asked and Eevee only wailed in sadness. Her whole body started to glow and Kuro realized that she was evolving. Kuro watched in bewilderment as his Eevee turned into a creature he's never seen before. Her skin turned blueish, the fur on her head turned into long purple hair that wrapped around her body. He even noticed that her ears had developed some sort of a white fabric on them. What kind of evolution was this?
"Eev?" Kuro asked and she finally turned to look at him. His eyes widened as he looked at her face. Her eyes were nearly black, except for a small portion of red that was her pupils. And her mouth seemed to be a pale purple cloud or mist. This was certainly an evolution that he's never seen before.
"Eev, you've transformed. But... w-... what are you?" Kuro asked and she looked down at herself.
"Spireon?" She said confused. Apparently she hadn't even realized that she evolved.
"Spireon." She said again and she looked at Kuro.
"I guess you're a... Spireon. What ever that is." Kuro said and he thought about this.
