-Chapter 1-

"No More Sweets for You!"

The Baroness couldn't believe it. She always had a feeling that leaving Sugarland was a bad idea and will risk losing everything she had in her life. But, for some reason, she ignored this feeling and went to do it anyways. She decided to finally leave because she grew tired of waiting around for new children to come into Sugarland. The ones who did came after what felt like an eternity, was the worst visit she had ever gotten. They somehow manage to escape her grasp, despite all of her efforts of preventing that chance from happening, including the fact that they were turned into candy and should have slowed them down enough to reach them. As of now, she is facing the consequences of this decision of leaving the comfort and safety of her sugar-filled home, due to her growing impatience for her next victims to be easily tempted by her giant peppermint, that will lead them right into her trap.

She is currently in a jail cell, sitting on a cold, kinda hard bed, staring at her broken candy cane that was lying on the floor. She had snapped it from her fit of rage when she was thrown into this dark cell. What made it worse is that due to her unhealthy obsession of candy, the court decided that for her punishment, she will be prohibited from eating anything with sugar while she's in custody for her past crimes.

For the Baroness, that was complete torture because her main diet has always been sweet treats. She was even more irritated when a guard showed up earlier with her daily dose of healthy greens and decided to tease her, saying that she can keep her candy cane since it will be the very last sweet treat that she will ever eat in her life in prison. She was hesitant about it, but she ate her meal even though she was repulsed by it. When she finished her meal, she started to wonder how long it's been since she ate anything that wasn't made with sugar. Sadly, she couldn't remember. There's no clocks or calendars in Sugarland and it was always daytime there. Not only that, the weather doesn't even seem to exist there either. Also, it would be quite strange to see fruits and veggies growing in a world full of sugar anyways.

Well, the truth is that Sugarland was made for giving the children something that their parents or guardians don't approve of eating so much of. Which is candy of course. I mean, who wouldn't want to enjoy a tasty treat that you can have all to yourself? Which has to be the only reason why Sugarland existed in the first place, right? Wrong.

The Baroness knew why it existed. She is literally in charge of the whole place. She has the power to lead children there and offer them all the sweet treats they desire. Not only that, she can control her candy castle when she needed to chase some naughty children that had broke all the rules. But, she couldn't take all the credit, even though she really wanted to. That place would've never existed in Inkwell if it wasn't for him, the devil.

She grimaced at the memory. She still question to this day about how she was lucky enough to literally meet the devil himself. So lucky that she even lost something that can't be easily replaced, her soul. At first, it didn't seem like a big deal to give up it for made up world were she becomes powerful enough to be feared from those whom tried to mess with her. However, sitting alone in this cell with her own thoughts, made her realized that were she is now, is a cruel reminder of her past mistakes that she made due to her darkest desire for revenge on those who used to mistreated her. But, it wasn't just her soul that she lost, it was also her sanity along with it.

Ever since she made that deal with the devil, she lost control of who she used to be. Not only that, remembering the look of fear on her old friend's face. It was like he saw a monster instead of her true self. As those memories go through her mind, tears had came to the baroness eyes as she started feeling a bit of regret of losing someone that had been by her side before turning into the monster that she is today. What made her feel even worse was the fact when she was in Sugarland, she goes out of her way to put on a whole fake act of acting all friendly towards a young boy who had a cup for a head, by offering him all the sweet treats he desired, so that he can become tempted enough to break all the rules. As expected, he did anyways, but not only that, he brought his brother along too, which made the situation even worse for the both of them. At that very moment, she lost all her sanity, as if she didn't lose it before, started chasing after them when they turned into the very thing that she only eats. Sadly for her, but I guess lucky for them, they manage to escape. Of course she was upset at that time, but right now, she doesn't feel that upset as she was before. Probably, since she's becoming more sane as she spends more time in reality than in her isolated home. Which makes her wonder if she does get out of prison, will she return back home?

She doesn't have anywhere else to go, so what other choice is there? After what she had done, none would ever want to see her face. Again, this made her feel even more worse than what she was feeling at the moment. She doubt if anyone would forgive her for what she has done, even if she apologizes for something she couldn't control, but also could've prevented it from happening in the first place if she had given the deal a second thought. The baroness sighed, she wiped her tears away and decided to stop dwelling on the past mistakes she can't fix and try to fall asleep on her somewhat comfortable bed.
