Chapter 13 Forest of Death

Heading into the field we managed to head into a clearing with a lot of people but they were spread out. We spotted Choji and walked over to him as he was reading a form of some kind. I knew what it was but just for extra measure me and Ino walked up and asked if Choji could give us a run down as just when Choji finished reading what's left on the page I sign the one Choji gave me without hesitation. "Oh Shikamaru isn't that too fast." I just shrug my shoulders as her as both her and Choji sweatdrop at my nonchalant response.

"Heh it's whatever all the other rookies are already gotten a scroll and we are one of the last teams. At my pointing out the obvious Ino and Choji proceeded to finish sighing the page as we went to turn it in behind the closed curtain.

They gave us a Earth Scroll. Hmm alright then…what to do…what can we do…do we go after Team 7 or what…I don't know…between being a good person and passing guaranteed I-…don't know…I'll just I mean we'll just find out in the way.

We went into a gate it wasn't as close to Team 7 as I thought it was 2 or 3 gates away though I don't really know how far though I do know is that me and my team are heading for the river bank which is in the middle leading into the tower into the middle of the training ground. We all entered a gate at different times to prevent targeting from other teams yet how long until Team 7 gets into trouble hmm about like 2 hours in the Chunin Exams. Geez look at me I'm predetermined to head to help. And I still question why I don't go to the Hokage is that while a lot might happen it would be well as hell to sudden as if that happens then multiple things might not happen as Tsunade might never be recruited back into the village even with Naruto and Jiraiya's persuasion. Yea going to the Hokage is a no go. Plus he might not be as trustworthy as I think or with the people he's connected to that are the sketchy ones.

We see the gate close behind us as it was silent inside the cage holding us though I heard a multitude of sounds from the forest which included multiple sounds of animals and the sounds of the animals interacting with the trees all around. We heard a buzzer sound out as the gate opened as we launched through the gate heading into the greenery of the training field not looking back once…we were in and we were in deep.

"Shikamaru do you have an idea of where we're going." Choji asked while I was leading the pack of us I didn't myself had an idea of where we were going nor did I know much time had passed it didn't feel like much time had passed though from what I heard of Choji's explanation only 10 teams will be let through this time…hmm so Naruto really did help out with not opening his big mouth…heh that's kinda funny isn't it. Yeah a little.

"Well I was thinking that if we found or heard a river we might as well go to it though if we see any gate then we could turn the other way and be for sure that we're heading the right way." Though we didn't really have an adept tracker yet on our team we will probably have to take it off someone else as we make our way to the tower…hhhuuhhhh what the hell do we head to the tower or help Team 7 it's so weird decisions, decisions…whatever we…we might as well….Sasuke's Curse Mark is a problem and a right one at that so we might as well try to stop it…fuck how do we exactly….Shit

It was to the gates to the tower was a distance of 10 Km and 20 Km gate to other side of the gate on the other side which was…not even that fucking Far people in my world walk that in between 2 hours and that's a WALK while people running if you're fit is about an hour average…AVERAGE it won't take us much time to travel through the Forest of Death the only thing that waste our time is that we don't have a sense of direction so we're actually guessing where we're going but still isn't like 5 days a bit too much. Even for a survival test which can explain why Orochimaru found Team 7 as he did.

Getting attacked by numerous things like a multitude of snakes in this forest that are in the giant category as moving through the trees was the current fastest way to travel as we zoomed past multiple trees we came to a sudden stop when we heard a loud cry and a vacuum burst coming from a different direction and although it was faint…I mean very faint as you could only hear it this far if you didn't say or hear anything we quickly scouted where the sounds were coming from and deducted they were the way to our left. So we continued and turned left…I mean Team 7 have a Heaven Scroll…so that could help…why am I justifying this, this is stupid and dumb but that's what I am in the end huh.

"Beware we might not know who it might be so keep your guard up as we are bassically third partying these two teams." Hah I used a newer term these days never end do they? Ino and Choji flicked there attention to me at the term but just concluded it as an ambush and left me to myself.

Team 7 3rd POV

Naruto had just gone to the bathroom not even 20 minutes ago he only just returned to the group now…without the cut on his cheek and his kunai strap on the wrong side…Sasuke gave a kick to the imposter as he was sent tumbling into a tree forcefully as he grasped in front of him to stand back up. "Sasuke-Kun…wait…that's not Naru…who are you?" Sakura pulled out a kunai and stood protectively with Sasuke as the 'Fake' Naruto stood up as he grunted and grinned showing his teeth. "Oh Unlucky me." He dropped the transformation as he ran as he was one of the Fain Ninja eyeing Team 7 up especially as only a few people that Sasuke noticed looked at there team and Team 10 that way.

The rain Ninja ran straight at them so Sasuke inherently just did the hand signs of the Fire Style: Phoenix flower Jutsu as the shots of fire exploded on impact though the URN (Unidentified Rain Ninja) dodged the attacks swiftly jumping back occasionally to dodge some more fireballs his way.

"Heeeyyyy SASUKE!" Sasuke heard a scream that sounded oddly familiar so when he jumped up high enough he saw that Naruto was tied by a rope as he laid like a worm. Sasuke blanked at him but also threw kunai in his direction only cutting the ropes with Sasuke's precision shown at work as Sakura threw Kunai and Shuriken at the URN using the dust kick up to disguise the weapons through the pop up and they hit something that sounded like a person… the URN was hit with the weapons as he di movement when the Weapons hit him. Sasuke quickly activated his Sharingan as he ran at the URN until just before Sasuke could make anymore damage then the momentary stab would he caused the URN performed a frantic Substitution Jutsu.

While Sakura wanted to find the Rain nin Sasuke held her from going as it would be useless he could tell that guy was by himself and wasn't carrying a scroll with him.

After Naruto resumed his bathroom break he finnaly finished as he sighed in relief at having to hold it in for longer than needed that nin Sasuke and Sakura fought had to study Narutofrom when he want to the bathroom and still made mistakes. They were now huddled together on the floor as they began speaking on ways to identify the others. "Here we should make a passcode." Sasuke said and Sakura agreed with a quick nod but Naruto wanted to protest by was silenced by Sasuke's stare as he quieted down.

"Right umm how about…a ninja will strike when the time is right." Sasuke suggested and Sakura thought a bit extra before pumping her head in another nod as Naruto was trying to recount his words they felt a giant wind explode towards them. They all had to block the wind out of there eyes by shielding them with there arms only to see and capture Naruto by eating him whole while also taking him further through the Forest. "Naru-Kun!/Naruto!" They both yelled as they both looked at the direction the snake. Though they could chase the boy as something reminiscent of one of the genin from when they saw with the long tongue slither just like a snake up a tree to gain the high ground as the wind stop.

"Oh my you must be Sasuke-Kun." Sasuke's eyes widen as this girl knew him and had some sort of sick interest in him. He grabbed a kunai from his pouch and so did Sakura until they were hit with a wave of killing intent that stunned them as they shacked still in fear. They might have had a battle with two S-Rank Shinobi but one of them was Itachi Uchiha who Sasuke seethed with every fiber of his being but knew that at this point he was no match so he let Kakashi and Asuma-Sensei deal with him while the rest of the genin and Haku fought that sharkskin guy with the sword that absorbed chakra. They didn't have the numbers advantage well only three of them and this…thing just used a snake to take out Naruto. They both couldn't believe the feeling at the girl just looked at Sasuke especially. "We'll let's go."she rushed at Sasuke as Sakura stepped in front of Sasuke startling Sasuke as he broke out of his trance as Sakura reduced a experimental Technique. Sakura lumped her fist with Chakra ready exert a burst of Chakra to recreate what Lady Tsunade the Slug Sannin was able to do. That book Shikamaru gave her told her inferences of the Technique but not it exactly so she had to mark do with her own knowledge and the training for the Chunin Exams was the perfect time to try and experiment. Sakura reeled back and charged at the grass genin who overall didn't expect anything as they didn't move from there course in overconfidence they were caught off guard by a punch that missed there face but made a crater in the tree was more cracks in the wood started to appear where there face was. 'This girl…manage to replicate Tsunade's Chakra limb boosting although it's very toned down but for a genin who just graduated to have used something like that is very impressive.' The Grass nin thought as they jumped back on a branch to reassess the situation. 'Hmm these genin are quite interesting'

Outside Traning Ground 44 'Forest of Death'

Anko who walked outside of the gates with a smile on her face walked around as she heard the cry's of the kiddies she knew were going to have trouble after all they probably had no idea about this place. She giggled at another scream from the Forest that she almost missed the defaced figures in a ditch quite far away from we're all the genin were. 'O-oh no that bastards here' Anko jumped away to alert the others about the presence of Orochimaru in the Forest of Death.

"Anko-San what is the urgency." A Chunin running the paper stand for the participants asked recognizing her restless atitude.

"Orochimaru is here." Anko said frantically. That alerted the Chunin as his eyes widened.

"You tell the Hokage and me and the rest of the team here will enter." The Chunin immediately nodded and ran off at high speed through the severity of the situation.

'Why the hell is this bastard here and at the Chunin Exams…The Uchiha!' Anko stopped in her tracks and turned back at the vanishing Chunin as she took a deep breath and yelled. "Orochimaru is after the Uchiha! All other proctor's with Me!" Anko yelled as many Chunin proctor's jumped in front of her as she turned and jumped into the the Forest.

Back with Team 7 at the same time

"S-Sakura-C-Chan w-we need to go." Sasuke said as he stuttered her name as they were staring right at the grass nin. Sakura herself a bit scared when the grass nin dodged her attack that at least took 10% of her Chakra. Even then in these past months she's been training her capacity and gotten it to High genin so she couldn't just waste her punches.

Sasuke went to grab at his pouch until a sound stoped all people in there tracks. "Oi Sasuke, Sara-Chan" Naruto stood there a bit worse for wear but he was still alive.

"So you're that guy that sent that snake huh I'll kick you-" Naruto was cut off by a very strong shout from Sasuke.

"Naruto Shut Up! If we give you our scroll will you let us go." Sasuke grabbed at the scroll he kept in his bag as he held it up to present it as a real scroll.

"Ah the prey offer a deal when they know there outmatched." The grass nin smiled maliciously as the scroll was thrown by Sasuke.

The scroll flew in the air as Naruto jumped from his branch aiming for the scroll and was grasp length as Sasuke shouted Naruto's name. "Naruto!" Naruto passed the scroll as he landed on the branch and looked at Sasuke as the four ninja stare at each other and they see no one had the scroll.

"W-where's the scroll" Naruto asked blatantly as a voice cut through the air towards them as a figure was standing with there back towards them.

"Thanks for the scroll guys I really appreciate it." The ninja was Identified as Shikamaru Nara as Team 7 looked shocked at the arrival while the grass nin looked on more frustration filling there mind. 'More pests.'

'Shikamaru' POV

Running faster than Ino and Choji could muster I ran and intercepted the scroll before Naruto could get his hands on it. "Thanks for the scroll guys I really appreciate it." I looked at the shocked faces as I put the scroll in my pouch as I look at the Grass Nin or Orochimaru. I launch myself at him as I grab a kunai though there was something different about it though. Multiple arms extended with kunai that had electricity sparking through them all. 'Is this what Asuma-Sensei said about the clone' Naruto wondered as he was there as Asuma-Sensei explained the situation of his test he saw this and couldn't tell the right one. Sasuke and Sakura eyes widened at my display of the typical and almost useless clone jutsu after they seen Naruto's superior Shadow Clone Jutsu they pawned the Jutsu to the way side but I kept it in secret it could confuse an opponent other than one with a dojutsu like the Sharingan or Byakugan. I saw Orochimaru blink and blink again at the maneuver he did see the enlarged fist from Choji sending him into a tree. I grabbed another kunai as I used my improvised jutsu Lightning Style: Electric Wire and threw the kunai as the tree caught the wire as the Kunai got stuck on. The smoke updraft from his landing on the tree was as the only thing seen as the wire wrapped him down to the tree as Sasuke stepped up himself standing down for too long as Naruto jumps making a singular Shadow Clone the both scream out a Jutsu. "Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu/ Wind Style: Gale Palm." Sasuke and Both Naruto's said as the Fireball expanded by two and a half times as it impacted the tree with an explosion of blue and red on the edge of the flame turning blue. We all cover oursleves as with our hands of the bright light and heat as Sakura, Ino and Choji land on the branch we were on. "Is he…" Ino hesitated to ask but as all the smoke dispersed in the air revealing a heavily damaged Grass Ninja.

"H-how did you survive." Sasuke said though the all of us were speechless at this point.

"Hahahaha oh my that was a lot better then I thought it would be…especially you…Nara from what I heard of the rumors about you you're quite the spectacle." My eyes widen at this guy…how did this guy hear of me even I get Sasuke but me…oh god am I on this guy's radar….kill me…

But what I've seen just now was foul as he just threw himself up i reeled back and so did everyone else as I saw Sakura's eyes widen.

"Y-You're the trailer Orochimaru one of the legendary Sannin." Sakura stuttered as most people who had any idea of the level of these people stared much more cautiously.

"Seems like you know your stuff pinky." Orochimaru said as he rushed at us with at least Chunin speeds. I jumped up and rebounded off the tree and push myself off to give myself a bit of a boost as I grab another pair of Kunai and charge them with lightning Chakra. Meeting in the air as both of the Kunai's in the others hand clashed though I couldn't tell if Orochimaru felt the lightning that much or was just winding up an attack that caught me in the stomach making me cough up blood as it landed on Orochimaru's clothes and sent me flying straight into a tree snapping the bark into a Shikamaru size hole as the sound that made it sound even more deadly.

"Shikamaru!/Shikamaru-Kun!" Everyone screamed my name but they couldn't see me as the dust and bark covering the impact where I landed. I pride myself painfully off the bark and landed on a branch thankfully as I hunch over and cough more blood forcing itself out of my body. 'Good thing I stuffed my body with Chakra…' I looked over to see Sasuke, Naruto and Choji going in for a Taijutsu battle while Ino and Sakura help from the support and when Sakura saw me come from the rubble she rushed over to me. It's bad now we only have about what 4 front line fighters as Ino usually is more for capturing and interrogation and Sakura is learning more about medical Ninjutsu though they both have water style they at this moment know nothing they do will help maybe it'll harm them more if they tried.

Sakura laid her hands on my back as her hands started to glow green. "Shikamaru-Kun I-I was worried you would just leave us there you know…and I wouldn't have blamed you that guys a Sannin a Kage level Ninja…" I shushed her as she looked at me as I smiled at her.

"I looked cool right." I closed my eyes and chuckled at my own response I did I felt cool doing that and to tell you what that was insane that I managed to outspeed Naruto like that it made it greater. I looked back at the fight as Sasuke managed to keep up barely with the suppressed Orochimaru with his 2 tomoe Sharingan. As Naruto and Choji themselves having been flung by attacks as he meant to test Sasuke no the all of them. I saw Orochimaru make a disgusting dodge as he moved his body in ways I never wanted to see.

I stood up fully as Sakura looked up at me and I smile at her and send her a thumbs up.

Jumping into the battle with Sasuke and Orochimaru as he didn't expect me to be back on my feet he only barely evaded my kunai strike but was kicked away by Sasuke as we stood side by side.

"Oi Sasuke." I look over to him as I Saw Sakura jump to my side.

"Yea Shikamaru what would that be." Sasuke smirked as Ino jumped to Sasuke's side.

"I say we teach this traitor not to mess with us." I saw Naruto recover and stand next to Sakura as his eyes were different they were with the Kyubbi's Influence.

"My thoughts exactly." Sasuke said as Choji returned to Ino's side as Orochimaru took the time to rush only to be interrupted us jumping me and Sasuke up first. Naruto in the background performed a Shadow Clone Jutsu as over easily 250 Clones surrounded the Sannin. As either me or Sasuke attacked there would either be each other covering each others attacks or a Naruto clone. "Guys Move!" Me and Sasuke heard a yell as Choji used Human Bullet Tank to grow bigger as Multiple Naruto Clones pumped him with Gale Palm as he was sent Flying into Orochimaru as we move away just in time for him. They crashed into a tree as Choji rebounded off still enlarged as he bounced his way back as Orochimaru flashed behind me and Sasuke where we were as his mouth was enclosing Sasuke's neck. Though he stood still for a second…Sakura's Genjutsu! I performed my Shadow Imitation Jutsu as I saw Sakura finished with her Genjutsu Handsign. Cherry Blossom Spring. I felt a pulse of Chakra break Orochimaru's Genjutsu as Sasuke jumped away from Orochimaru…."hrrrgh pesky brats…" Orochimaru said as he started to sink into the ground. 'What the hell!'

Orochimaru sink into the ground as my shadow retracted to me as we went all of us back to back with Naruto's clones protecting us. Though that came up short when a Snake a very giant one demolished into the Clones dispelling a third in a fatal attack. " oh you've got to be kidding me…" I said full of despair thought as the Snake finished the rest of the clones as Orochimaru was on the Snake a sudden sound as a bell and a bunch of people.

'Wait is that the ANBU'

"Ino, Sakura" I called out there names as I started to run through the handsigns as they recognize them they start to get the idea and started to form handseals.

"Lightning Style: Lightning Bolt!/Water Style: Water Ball" we shouted as the lightning conducted with the water as Orochimaru prefers the Summon to charge as It took the collaboration Jutsu to the face for Orochimaru to extend his neck towards Sasuke until his neck was pulled back by snakes himself. It was Anko.

"Get out of here." We heard Anko as we took of in the area she and the incoming Chunin came from as another grunt sounded out and even a slash and a cry. We didn't stop running even when we were tired we didn't stop until we eventually made it to the little tree pocket in the original. We all camped here as we caught our breath.

"W-what the hell." I manage to say as I sat down catching my breath. Not only was my Chakra reserves almost spent but my body was ready to give up as the amount of Jutsu and amount of buffing my bodily I needed to not die in that one attack from Orochimaru took about 35% of my reserves gone in a quick burst. Along with Sasuke, Naruto and Choji who we were all hunched over not trying to draw more attention to ourselves as the girls went out to grab firewood from the already fallen trees.

"So you going to give us our scroll back…" I turn to Sasuke as he asks me as Naruto and Choji look over to us. I shrug my shoulders as I pass him the Heaven Scroll he had.

"Truce until we gain back out Chakra for like two days or so. We're about like halfway to the tower and it's about the dawn of the first day which is surprising." I let my intrusive thoughts out as Sasuke nodded as we both laid our head back on the tree as I sigh at the days events so far.

"Do you guys think anything will be normal." I ask casually as Sasuke looks at me strangely. Though after processing everything he too nodded. Yup today is such a pain sometimes I wish that it wasn't though.

"Where is Sasuke Uchiha." A voice sounded out from the outside of the field as we all went to check it out to see three genin. They had sound headbands on and looked specifically at Sasuke. They don't even look half or even a quarter as tired as us.

"Tch" Sasuke clicked his tongue as we looked at the three. One was a girl while the other two were guys as one was heavily bandaged and had a larger than normal arm. I looked at them and then sighed again this is so troublesome.

A kunai came from the forest as it sailed towards the sound genin until it was intercepted by a kunai by the girl of the group I think her name is Kin. They turn to the person who threw it as both Ino and Sakura came from the forest into the clearing with there hands on there weapons.

I step back in caution at the three genin look intimidatingly.

"We're only here for the Uchiha." They said again but nobody really budged.

"Hey everyone we got this." I heard Sakura say as Ino nodded while always worried about my friends sent them a warning look but they smiled and nodded and I backed down but not the other two.

"Sara-Chan these 3 don't have nothing on you so let me take care of them." I heard Naruto say arrogantly while pumping his fist to his hand. I blank at him while Sasuke just tightened the clench he held on his hand.

"Sakura-Chan these guys aren't worth your time and there after me let me take care of them." Sasuke said it while not as arrogantly as Naruto there was still the confidence there.

"We've got this and if we need help, you guys will have the energy to help." Ah she wanted us to rest before another fight while we did the main fighting Sakura and Ino didn't trace to use much Chakra just causing openings and being overall the medic or different on our teams they don't have jutsu for like direct damage or not really.

"Hrm so the little girl thinks she can play with the sound." I believe Zaku said that as he raised his fingers to release air. "Decapitating airways." He said blasting air at us that even took Naruto who was a bit light off the ground though I held onto him to keep him from flying away. He continued to unleash the air until a kunai was sent for his head but dodged as a light cut on the cheek was Ino's result. Zaku's gritted his teeth then went to aim at them as well. "Decapitating Air-" he was cut off by not being able to move anymore.

"W-What the hell…I can't move…" there was a kunai next to them extending my shadow to them. 'T-This might put me out of commission actually…oh god.' I finished my handsigns as I landed the last one "Shadow Stitching Jutsu" I said in a monotone as they stared at the shadow leading to me as Dosu's arm started to morph but just as it activated so did my shadow as dark spikes littered there body's killing them. I fell on my knees as I gasp from the Chakra exhaustion hitting me as the Shadow instead of retracting just dissipated in the distance.

"F-fuck." I felt a sound creeping up on me as I felt something approaching and soon I was hunched over throwing up my breakfast before with the last strength I had pushed myself to land away from the vomit as I collapsed on the floor Unconscious.

Recently collapsed Member of Team 10 3rd POV

"Shikamaru-Kun!" Sakura yelled as she and Ino ran to him as the rest of the boys just turn him over to check his pulse and his breath. After checking him over Sakura let out a sigh of relief. 'Just Chakra exhaustion and some damage that guy did with his arm.' Sakura looked at the impaled bodies as Sasuke got up and searched them eventually finding a Earth scroll and an Heaven Scroll. They had 2 already and now they could all go to the tower.

"They had Two we can all head to the tower!" Sasuke yelled as Choji started to get Shikamaru's unconscious body on his back and he put both scrolls in his pouch.

"Let's go!" Naruto yelled as they took off not at fast speeds due to Shikamaru's condition and also having to find a river. They were all dehydrated from the day and finnally finding the river was a godsend.

"Wait wasn't the river leading to the tower?" Choji questioned and the water Sakura was drinking was quickly inhaled. "That's Right!" With that they took off once again in a hurry for them only catching there breath for 20 minutes at the river before riding out the river until the saw the Tower and its door's.

They saw and were in front of the doors until a sound sounded out and 3 more figures came from the trees.

It was Kiba, Hinata and Shino. Looking alarmed the three teams looked at each other warningly. Until Kiba saw the unconscious body of Shikamaru on Choji's back.

"What the hell happened to you guys." He asked without taking his fist down as Akamaru popped his head from the jacket.

"A lot of shit ok!" Sasuke yelled this was frustrating for him they were just here and now another team was here they in Team 7 ran into A LEGENDARY SANNIN AND GUYS SENT TO KILL ME OR US THE TEAM 10 SHOW UP OUT OF NOWHERE THOUGH THEY HELPED US' Sasuke restrained himself as the tick mark on his head slowly went away.

"Hmm well if we look at you I believe we may be able to get rid of you now and forget the trouble later." Kiba said with a Malicious grin as Akamaru barked. All eyes went wide except Shino because of his goggles.

"K-Kiba-Kun are you sure that's necessary." Kiba turned to her then saw her look and relented as he growled.

"You're lucky I can kick all of your asses anyways." Kiba left following his team as they entered the doors first.

Everyone in the are let out a breath they were holding they were either going to fight what seemed like a fresh Team 8 that just appeared out of no where.

As a certain person would say….What a Pain…

Opening the door after they were certain no one was there as both teams read the wall they then tried to figure the small riddle until Sakura proposed the idea of the scrolls and the 4 scrolls were together 2 Heaven and 2 earth.

They activated the seal as there was summon of Iruka-Sensei and Asuma-Sensei standing there.

"Iruka-Sensei!" Naruto excitedly exclaimed as Iruka smiled a bit at the beaming blond. Asuma though walked up to the unconscious Shikamaru on Choji's back.

"It's just Chakra Exaustion and something that happened to his ear though I did hear that Sakura had managed to heal that." Ino reassured Asuma that nothing wrong was with there teammate but Asuma grabbed Shikamaru like a princess pose and walked through the hidden doors to enter the tower.
