A/N: If you want to you can read the chapters like episodes of the anime. So technically if you want you could think of it as all the evolution themes have their OSTs. For me, the OSTs would be like 02 where Armor evolution would have 'Break up!'

Jogress evolution would have 'Beat Hit'.

Jogress evolution to the mega level would be 'Target'.

Normal evolution would follow the 2020 soundtrack. So 'Be the Winners', 'X-treme fight' and 'break the chain'.

Also, if you really really want to get into the thought, the Armor evolution animation in my head would contain the mega forms of the respective 01 Digidestined. This is after all supposed to be a sequel to 2020.

Reply to Matsky: To answer the question of Mimi's role in this. I would have to say that… I'm not too sure honestly. My main motivation for writing this story was wondering how different 02 could be if the original Digidestined had access to their mega evolutions like in 2020. (so some things like the Digimon Kaiser arc won't change too much. But I do have some ideas to at least make some things different.) I also had my own concept which I want to implement in a much later chapter. Because of this I only had a few chapters properly thought out, but I didn't want to just post those chapters alone because it wouldn't make much sense. Hence, most of the chapters you see me write will be very very similar to 02 except obviously Tailmon isn't just useless. I'll try to see what I can do with the original 8 but be prepared for them to not have the biggest of roles in this story.

Chapter 2: The Love for Knowledge

Iori: 'Are we back?'

Koushiro: 'Looks like it. This is the computer room we used to set up my Digital Gate…'

Miyako: 'Finally! We are back from that cursed world.'

Iori: 'Izumi-senpai, is this really the Digital World that you and your friends enjoyed so much?'

Koushiro: 'Of course, That is the Digital World that my friends and I love. That first experience may not have been the best for you three, but maybe your perspective will change when you get your partner Digimon. Our partner Digimon are our best friends for life, and I know we would give our lives for each other right, Tentomon?'

Tentomon: 'Of course, Koushiro, I will protect you and fight against any threat to keep you safe!'

Iori: 'Mmm, thank you Izumi-senpai, I will think about it with Miyako and inform you if we want to continue going to the Digital World. Miyako, are you still able to come to my house to help fix my family's computer?'

Miyako: 'Err, yeah sure I can probably fix it, I think.'

Daisuke: 'Veemon, you were so cool back there when you fought that other Digimon!'

Veemon: 'You betcha, Daisuke!'

Miyako: 'Ehh!? The Digimon can come to our world so easily?! Doesn't that mean we aren't safe from them?' Miyako was in a panic upon hearing and seeing Veemon and the rest of the Digimon Partners with them.

Koushiro: 'Don't worry Miyako, my Digital gate can be closed at any time so we won't have a problem of a random Digimon coming through.'

Miyako: 'Thank goodness, Iori let's just go to your house and get your computer fixed up.'

The Digidestined left the school and started on their journey back to their homes. As Koushiro split from the group, Hikari and Takeru heard his voice over their earpieces.

Koushiro: 'Come to my office I would like to discuss this with the rest.'

Takeru: 'Got it. Daisuke, Miyako, Iori. You three go home first. Hika and I are gonna go off first. We need to err catch up since we have been away for so long.'

Miyako: 'Eh, Takeru you're taking Hikari on a date?!' Miyako had stars in her eyes.

Takeru and Hikari: 'Eh?! No no no. We're just best friends.' They both had a light blush from the statement.

Daisuke: 'You two better be just friends. Besides, Hikari is my Girl! I'm the only one who will go on dates with her!'

Takeru: 'You're dating Daisuke? What happened in the week I didn't contact you?'

Hikari pouted at Takeru while he chuckled at her.

Hikari: 'Where did you get that idea? He is too much like Onii-chan.'

Daisuke's face dropped as his whole world came crashing down.

Takeru: 'Didn't you have a brother complex when you were growing up?' Takeru answered teasingly.

Hikari: 'Takaishi. 5 seconds should be more than enough time for an athletic boy like you, right?' Hikari had an evil smile on her face that could scare even the evilest of Digimon.

Takeru gulped

Hikari: '5'

Takeru: 'It's not a date.'

Hikari: '4'

Takeru: 'Hika and I are just best friends!'

Hikari: '3'

Takeru: 'See you guys tomorrow-'

Hikari: '2'

Takeru: 'at Koushiro's office for the Digital World!'

Hikari: '1, I'm coming to get you Takaishi!'

Takeru ran at the speed of light to Koushiro's office with Hikari trailing behind, shouting at him.

At Koushiro's office

Takeru: 'It's good to see you again, Sora, Joe, Onii-chan.'
Takeru said in between gasps. Hikari was behind him in an equally dishevelled state.

Sora: 'Eh?! You're back, Takeru? Why didn't you tell me anything about it, Yamato?!' Sora pouted at her boyfriend.

Yamato: 'Hey hey, don't look at me. It was his idea to surprise all of you. Even if he went about it in a horrible way… also why are you two so out of breath?'

Hikari giggled at Yamato's response. She knew he had been trying to act like a big brother figure for her ever since Taichi mysteriously disappeared. Honestly, like how Takeru sees Taichi as an older brother, she too sees Yamato as an older brother.

Takeru: 'I thought it would be funny to see everyone's surprised faces…'

Hikari: 'And someone over here thought it would be a good idea to bring up something between my brother and me. So, I chased him all the way over here.'

Takeru: 'Hey. It was funny.'

Hikari pouted at him as they took their place on Koushiro's office couch. 6 of the original 8 humans and Digimon were there, except for Taichi and Agumon, who had disappeared, and Mimi and Palmon who were in America.

Just then, Mimi's face appeared on one of Koushiro's monitors that was facing the group.

Mimi: 'Is it working Koushiro?'

Palmon: 'Hi, everyone!'

Koushiro: 'Yep, looks like it. Now that everyone is here, we can start the meeting. I'm going to start with what happened in the Digital World today.'

Koushiro gave a recap of the occurrences in the Digital World from the energy spike to Armor Evolution.

Yamato: 'Armor evolution… hmm and you say it appeared to be weaker than when our Digimon evolve…'

Gabumon: 'It's a shame we can't evolve normally because of this Digimon Kaiser, right Yamato?'

Yamato: 'Yeah, I would really like to be able to help defeat this guy. It's a shame you guys won't be able to do much without evolving.'
Yamato sighed at their inability to help the Digital World like they did before.

Tailmon: 'Hey, I'm able to fight them since I'm at a higher level.'

Koushiro: 'Yeah, it seems Hikari and Tailmon, Daisuke and Fladramon will be our best shots for now. Armor evolution seems to be weaker than normal evolution, but it seems to be better suited for combat.'

Sora: 'How are the new kids handling this?'

Takeru chuckled at Sora's statement. It reminded him of how Sora was always like the mother hen of their group.

Takeru: 'Daisuke seems to be handling it fine. Miyako and Iori might be reluctant to return. They did get quite a bad first impression. They didn't even get to meet their partners yet…'

Koushiro: 'You don't have to worry about Iori, Takeru. He spoke to me after we came back, and I think he would be willing to join us again. On the other hand, I'm unsure if Miyako will join us…'

Mimi: 'We can still go to the Digital World to help the new kids as we have more experience, right?'
Mimi's voice was filled with concern. She didn't want to abandon the Digital World especially after all their struggles to save it.

Koushiro: 'We definitely have to still go with them. They don't know enough about the Digital World to be there by themselves. So, who's coming tomorrow?'

Sora: 'I can come.'

Yamato: 'Sorry, I have band practice tomorrow.'
Yamato's voice showed little trace of emotion as always.

Joe: 'I have an exam. sorry.'

Koushiro: 'Ok, so that means Sora, Takeru, Hikari and I will go to the Digital World tomorrow.'

At Iori's home

Iori swung his kendo stick down.

Iori: 'The Digital World… it's dangerous but… I'm really interested in learning about it… I need to convince Miyako to come with us. Koushiro did say that we should at least meet our partners before we make a proper decision to continue going.'

Miyako: 'Iori, the computer is fixed. I should go home now, it's quite late.'

Iori: 'Wait, Miyako. I think you should join us tomorrow.'
Iori was as blunt as ever.

Miyako: 'I… I just don't know if we should go. It's so dangerous…'

Iori: 'Izumi-senpai said we should at least meet our partner Digimon first before we make a decision... please Miyako... I don't want to go without a good friend.'

Miyako was taken aback.
'Did Iori just say that? He's always so stoic... he has never shown this pleading side of him... maybe I should go I don't want to disappoint him…'

Miyako: 'I guess... I guess I could go with you... only until we meet our partner Digimon or whatever.'

Iori: 'Thank you, Miyako.'

The following day

Takeru: 'Hey Miyako, Iori. You two going to Koushiro's office?'

Iori: 'Yeah. I want to meet my partner Digimon before I choose whether to continue going to this Digital World.'

Takeru: 'That's good. Our partner Digimon are our friends for life, right Patamon?

Patamon was perched on his signature spot… on top of Takeru's head.

Patamon: 'Yep! You two just didn't get to see the good of the Digital World on your first trip.'

The trio of Takeru, Miyako and Iori continued their way to Koushiro's office mostly in silence.

Takeru: 'Hey, good to see you all. Where's Daisuke?'

Hikari: 'Oh, don't worry about him, he is always late. Just give him a little while.'

As if on cue, Daisuke came in with Veemon.

Daisuke: 'Hey guys, did we miss anything?'

Koushiro: 'Nope, let's go. By the way, I haven't made enough earpieces for you guys so you will have to wait for a while before I can give them to you three.'

Daisuke: 'Aww man, I was kinda hoping you would have made those cool earpieces for the rest of us by now.'

The group of seven were transported to a nice open field on top of a small hill.

Koushiro: 'So today, we are aiming to find Miyako and Iori's Digimon. Daisuke got his when he lifted the Digimental of Courage. So, we should go around the Digital World and try to search for other Digimentals. If we roam around it would be easier for my computer to pick up on the energy spikes.'

Digimon Kaiser: 'So, you all have decided to come back. I do hope you worms actually have a plan. It would be no fun if you went down as easily as that other google-head.'

Hikari: 'What did you do to my brother?!' Hikari's eyes were burning with anger.

Digimon Kaiser: 'Oh? If you're his sister, I do hope worthlessness doesn't run in the family. Well, you want to know what I did to him? HAHA as if I would tell you pathetic worm!'

Takeru: 'Hey! You take that back! No one gets to talk to Hika like that!'

Daisuke: 'Veemon, let's do this. No one can talk to Hikari like that and get away with it!'
Daisuke had his fist balled up with anger.

Digimon Kaiser: 'I wouldn't be talking like that if I were you. You aren't the ones with power here, remember?'
The Digimon Kaiser snapped his fingers causing the ground below the Digidestined to shake. A Drimogemon appeared causing the ground below Veemon, Daisuke, Hikari and Tailmon to collapse. Luckily, Takeru, Patamon, Biyomon and Tentomon reacted fast enough and managed to catch Hikari and Tailmon.

Takeru: 'Hikari! Hold on tight. Patamon and I have got you.'

Tentomon: 'Tailmon, what have you been eating? You're so much heavier than before.'

Tailmon: 'Hey!'

Hikari and Tailmon were pulled up but Daisuke and Veemon unfortunately fell towards the Drimogemon.

Miyako: 'No… he's gone…' Miyako fell to the ground on her knees.

Iori: 'No, he can't be… no way…' Iori was shaking in fear.

Just then, they heard a wild buzzing noise. The ground was also shaking.

Piyomon: 'I'd recognise that buzzing noise anywhere! It's the same one from when I first met Sora!'

Digimon Kaiser: 'Say hello to my pets! Snimon and Mojyamon! You better be careful. You wouldn't want to get cut by Snimon's razor-sharp sickles! HAHAHA! Now, i best be going. I'm going to have some fun with your friend.'

The Snimon was headed straight for Sora.

Takeru: 'Sora, get down!' Takeru tackled Sora to the ground to avoid getting hit by the Snimon.

Sora: 'Thanks, Takeru.'

Takeru: 'Hey, no problem. Onii-chan would kill me if I didn't try to help you.'

Sora: 'Oh, so I'm just an obligation to you?' Sora replied in a teasing tone. Takeru smirked in response.

Piyomon: 'Magical fire!'

Tentomon: 'Petit thunder!'

Patamon: 'Air shot!'

Snimon weaved inbetween all the attacks and continued charging towards the Digidestined.

Tailmon: 'Neko punch!'
Tailmon's fist collided with Snimon causing it to momentarily recoil in pain. However, it quickly recovered and fired its Twin Sickles attack towards Tailmon. Being in the air Tailmon could do little to dodge but managed to move her body a little to reduce the damage. She fell to the ground with a thud and Hikari ran to her.

Hikari: 'Tailmon! Don't try that again. You don't have the ability to save yourself from an attack while you're in the air.'

Tailmon: 'Yeah, Hikari, if only we could evolve. It would make this fight much easier.'

Just then Koushiro's laptop started beeping.

Koushiro: 'Guys! We need to move! It's an energy spike for Knowledge and Love!'

With that, Sora and Takeru quickly grabbed Miyako and Iori and started running with Koushiro.

Sora: 'Quick! Through the bushes, Snimon won't be able to follow us well through them!'

With nods and grunts of approval the Digidestined ran through the bushes.

The rest of the Digidestined were shocked as they came across a run-down temple.

Koushiro: 'Well, this is where that energy spike came from… guess we should go in.'

The group went into the temple and found two eggs. The Digimental of Knowledge and Love. Koushiro and Sora quickly went to their respective crests and tried to lift the eggs but with no success.

Takeru: 'Maybe Miyako and Iori should try.'

Hikari: 'Yeah, maybe they will be able to lift it, like Daisuke could lift the Digimental of Courage.'

Koushiro: 'That sounds plausible. Takeru and Hikari are right, Miyako, Iori you two should try it.'

Iori: 'Will this allow us to meet our partner Digimon?'

Koushiro: 'Probably, but there is only one way to find out.'

Miyako and Iori went to the Digimentals and attempted to pull them up. They both used very little strength and managed to lift them.

Miyako: 'Wow, Daisuke was right. These are very light.'

Just then two lights, one red and the other purple, burst forth. From the red light came a bird like creature. From the purple light came an armadillo like creature.

The bird spoke first.

Hawkmon: 'I am Hawkmon. I have been waiting for you Miyako.'

Miyako: 'W-wait what?'

Armadimon: 'Ahhh, I slept well. You're the one who woke me up, right? I've been waiting for you for a long time Iori.'

Iori: 'You must be my partner Digimon. It's nice to meet you uhh...'

Armadimon: 'The name's Armadimon.'

Iori: 'It's nice to meet you Armadimon.'

Hawkmon: 'Miyako, let us fight together.'

Miyako: 'Ehh? B-but…'

Sora smiled and walked over to Miyako.

Sora: 'Miyako, you don't have to worry about anything. Your Digimon will always be with you through thick and thin. When you fight with your Digimon to protect the Digital World, you will truly see how much there is to Love and protect here and you will be thankful for this Adventure.'

Miyako: 'Sora… Ok, I will help to protect the Digital World.'

Koushiro: 'So Iori, what do you think of the Digital World?'

Iori: 'What do I think? Well, Izumi-senpai, i haven't spent enough time here so I don't really know how to answer that…'

Koushiro: 'But you have something on your mind, don't you?'

Iori: 'Yeah… but all my theories just result in more questions that make me want to learn more.'

Koushiro: 'You have a curious mind, just as I thought. If you have any questions, you can just ask us. We're your friends and we will always try to help.'

Iori: 'Ok, thanks Izumi-senpai.'

Koushiro: 'Please, no need to be so formal, you can just call me Koushiro.'

Hawkmon: 'Now, Miyako, Iori, use the Digimentals!'

Miyako and Iori: 'Digimental Up!'

'Hawkmon, Armor evolve to… Holsmon! Wings of Love!'

'Armadimon, Armor evolve to… Digmon! Steel Knowledge!'

Holsmon: 'Now, let us help out comrades.'

Elsewhere…

Daisuke: 'Ugh… what on earth?'

Digimon Kaiser: 'Ah, I see the worm has finally awoken.'

Daisuke: 'You're the Digimon Kaiser, aren't you? Why are you doing this? You are a Digidestined like me.'

Digimon Kaiser: 'Like you? Don't make me laugh. You and your partner were so easy to capture.'

Across the mountainside Daisuke saw a panel flip. Veemon was bound to the panel similar to Daisuke.

Veemon: 'Sorry Daisuke, they got me.'

Daisuke: 'If only you could Armor evolve right now…'

Digimon Kaiser: 'But that's impossible. You are useless without these aren't you?'

The Digimon Kaiser held up Daisuke's D3 and phone Digivice.

Daisuke: 'Dammit! Give me back my Digivice and let Veemon go!'

Digimon Kaiser: 'And why would I do that? This is your punishment for trespassing in my area. I'll let you see as I turn your Digimon to my slave.'

Veemon: 'Heh, you can try but I'll never be your slave!'

Digimon Kaiser: 'What was that?'

Veemon: 'I've been waiting for a long time. I've been waiting to meet Daisuke. So, how could I become your slave now that I've finally met him?'

Daisuke: 'Veemon…'

Digimon Kaiser: 'Well let's see how good your determination will be against my dark rings.'

Daisuke: 'Noo! Stop! Don't you dare touch Veemon!'

Holsmon: 'Red sun!'

Digimon Kaiser: 'What?!'

Miyako and Holsmon came flying in destroying the dark ring with Holsmon's Red sun.

Digimon drilled through the mountain and managed to save Veemon.

Digimon Kaiser: 'Hmph.'

The Digimon Kaiser turned around to see Tailmon standing in his way.

Tailmon: 'You won't get past me.'

Just then a worm like Digimon ran in front of the Digimon Kaiser.

Wormmon: 'I won't let you hurt Ken!'

Tailmon: 'Neko punch!'

Tailmon's fist collided with Wormmon and he went flying into the Digimon Kaiser. He lost his grip on the Digivices and they went flying off the mountain, allowing Miyako and Holsmon to catch them.

Ken: 'Dammit, get out of my way!'

Ken swung his whip at Tailmon, who grabbed it mid swing. In response, he swung his whip back as fast as he could. Tailmon was sent over the edge they were standing on.

Ken: 'Snimon! Mojyamon! Drimogemon! Get them!'

Miyako: 'Here, your Digivices.'

Daisuke: 'Thanks, time for a counterattack. Digimental Up!'

'Veemon Armor evolve to… Fladramon! Burning Courage!

Fladramon: 'Break those dark rings. They'll go back to normal.'

Holsmon: 'Understood, hold on tight Miyako. Mach Impulse!'

The red beams hit the dark ring on Snimon, allowing him to regain control of himself.

Mojyamon: 'Icicle Rod!'

Fladramon: 'Fire against Ice?'
Fladramon grabbed the icicle Mojyamon threw at him. It melted as his gauntlet started to heat up.
Fladramon: 'Knuckle Fire!'

The fire enveloped Mojyamon, causing the dark ring to disintegrate from the heat.

Drimogemon dug underground with Digmon following close behind.

Digmon: 'Where do you think you're running off to? Gold Rush!'

Digmon fired off the drills on his arm towards Drimogemon's dark ring. The ring shattered easily.

The Digimon and their opponents gathered after the fight.

Veemon: 'Sorry if that fire hurt you.'

Mojyamon: 'It's not a problem. That pain was nothing compared to being a slave to the Digimon Kaiser.'

Takeru: Mojyamon, how is the village doing?'

Mojyamon: I'm afraid I can't answer that, Storabimon helped to evacuate the village while I distracted the Digimon Kaiser. Pardon me, but who are you?

Takeru: 'Ah, do you remember my brother Yamato and his partner Gabumon?"

Mojyamon: 'How could I forget the Gold Sword Fighter and his Human partner? So, you are his brother? Please send my regards to him and the Gold Sword Fighter.'

Takeru: 'Sure! I hope you can find Storabimon and the rest of your village soon.'

Hawkmon: 'So, Miyako, will you continue to help me?'

Miyako: 'Hmm, sure the Digital World has so much more to offer.'

Armadimon: 'I'm looking forward to fighting alongside you Iori!'

Iori: 'I look forward to it too Armadimon.'

Sora: 'I hope these new kids will do their best to replace us.'

Koushiro: 'No, Sora, we have more experience than them. We must do our best too even if we are unable to evolve our Digimon.'

Sora: 'I guess you're right about that.'

At the Digimon Kaiser's lair

Ken: 'Not bad… not bad at all. At least these kids can put up a fight. Looks like this might be fun after all. Let's see… what Digimon should I use next time…'

That's the end for Chapter 2! Honestly, I'm not sure if I'm doing the Digimon Kaiser properly. I might be overdoing his evil a little bit. I will also be referring to him as Ken now because honestly I think Tailmon is smart enough to hear Wormmon refer to him as Ken, and Tailmon would probably have told the group by now about it. I did change my writing format a bit so it's easier to see who is talking. I have made the changes to the prologue and Chapter 1 as well.
