Naruto had gotten his tattoo and now stood in front of Sarutobi, who smiled at him, Naruto knew that he would now be placed onto an Anbu Team, they had been taught about the system of Anbu, there is only 3 ranks in Anbu, Anbu Black Ops, Anbu Squad Leaders (or captains depending on what you prefer) and the Anbu Commander.
In Anbu while you do often work with your Anbu Team, Mission teams were formed on the need for the mission, i.e. experience, skill, who you're most effective with, etc.
"Now then, Naruto, you are on Anbu Team Ro," said Sarutobi as Naruto's eyes widened beneath the porcelain mask on his face. Team Ro was the Anbu Unit which answered directly to the Hokage, it was said to host some of the leaf's best shinobi, he heard that it was originally lead by Kakashi Hatake, the most skilled Jounin in the hidden Leaf Village currently, and had former traitor Itachi Uchiha in it as well.
"Now then, you're Captain will be informed, you are to meet him tomorrow," said Sarutobi.
"I guess that's everything?" asked Naruto.
"No, I am afraid that you will need a codename to separate you from other Anbu wearing a similar panther mask," said Sarutobi as Naruto nodded, he knew no matter how much Naruto had matured, he still was the same, "since I am no idiot, I have chosen your code name."
"So what is it?" asked Naruto, as Sarutobi grinned.
"Ko," said Sarutobi.
"Is that it, old man?" asked Naruto, with shock evident.
"Indeed, Anbu Code names are often like this," said Sarutobi as he decided to begin on another topic, "onto another important topic, you're story for your career."
"Why would I need a story?" asked Naruto.
"Simple, it is to hide the fact that you are in Anbu, you will be working with one of our allies, running missions with them which are placed into your record, this is your cover story, if someone asks even more questions, just tell them what I told you, it's classified," explained Sarutobi, his voice calm and collected, showing off the Professor rather than the kind Grandfather figure, "you are a Jinchuriki, a person of military importance, without you the balance cannot be kept, if you don't appear in Konoha from time to time, then it will look like our tailed beast has disappeared, creating the impression of weakness."
"Alright," said Naruto, gaining even more understanding of his role in Konoha.
"In time, you will be trained to handle your power, also your Captain is known as 'Tenzo', go to the Anbu Headquarters," said Sarutobi as Naruto nodded, "you are excused."
Sarutobi watched Naruto disappear in a teleportation jutsu, after a few seconds let out a sigh, as he looked at a corner, from which the Commander appeared, a hand on his chin.
"I hope you realize what you've done," said Sarutobi, as he let out a smoke.
"We shall see..." said the 2nd most powerful shinobi in the village.
"I really hope that this doesn't come back to bite us in the ass," said Sarutobi.
"It won't, " said the Commander, as Sarutobi looked towards the photo of his successor.
"This isn't what Minato wanted for him," said Sarutobi, as he looked back at the Commander.
"The Fourth also wanted to raise his son," said the Commander, as he disappeared into a body flicker.
-The Next Day-
Naruto walked into the Anbu Headquarters and to the changing room, carrying his kit, where he found several men changing, they all seemed to be older than him, and were looking at him.
"Captain Tenzo?" asked Naruto, as a brown haired man wearing a happuri-styled forehead protector with a leaf emblem, at the end of the Changing Room.
"Oh yes, Naruto," said the man called Tenzo as Naruto walked over to him, "this is your locker."
"Okay," said Naruto as he changed into the traditional Uniform and mask that he had been wearing for the last 2 months.
"Grab the black cloak," said the Anbu Captain as they walked away, with Tenzo grabbing a white cloak.
"Is that really him?" asked one of the Anbu still in the changing room.
"Yep, Naruto Uzumaki, currently, the one with the highest in infiltration and assassination since Kakashi Hatake," said another of the Anbu.
"I would never have thought that kid was good enough for Anbu," said another one.
"Yeah but the Commander himself scouted him," said the Anbu as Anbu began to gossip.
"I really hope we don't get another Itachi on our hands," said another Anbu.
"Nah, the kid went through the training and passed the exams, the Uchiha just got placed into Anbu," said the Anbu, as they continued to gossip about his training and more.
As Naruto arrived at an area, he found himself in a room where 2 other Anbu were waiting, a brown haired girl with a dog mask, and a purple haired cat masked Anbu.
"Dog, Cat, meet our new member, 'Ko'," said the Captain as they both nodded towards Naruto.
"Seriously? he seems like a whimp," said Dog as Naruto looked insulted beneath the mask.
"Hey!" shouted Naruto, insulted.
"The 'whimp' passed the training and exam just like the rest of us," said the Captain, as Naruto nodded.
"Alright, I'm Yugao Uzuki, you can call me cat with the mask on," said Yugao with a smile as they removed her mask.
"Hana Inuzuka, you can call me dog with the mask on," said Hana as Naruto realized where he had heard of her from, she's Kiba's sister, who he always talks about.
"I'm Naruto Uzumaki, but with the mask on, my code name is 'Ko'," said Naruto as he removed the mask.
"You're that brat in Kiba's class!" shouted Hana as she looked shocked, "you're supposed to be the deadlast!"
"Yeah, and you're Kiba's sister, with the Dogs," said Naruto as Hana nodded.
"Ninja Canine Companions," replied Hana, as Naruto looked unimpressed.
"Can you stop your brother from running his big mouth?" asked Naruto as Hana sighed.
"Don't tell me, he almost got into trouble again," said Hana, as she sighed.
"He started yelling in front of the Hokage," said Naruto as Hana let out a sigh.
"That's definitely my brother," said Hana, rhetorically, but decided to change the subject.
"How in the world did this kid pass the training and the final test?" asked Hana.
"He assassinated 2 targets and got the highest score in Assassination and Infiltration since Kakashi Hatake," answered Tenzo, as Hana looked at Naruto, shocked, as Naruto himself was shocked, he didn't know his own score, yet he had gotten the highest.
"Since that's done, today, we've been selected to guard the Hokage," said Tenzo as he put on his mask as did the rest of squad Ro. Naruto put on the black cloak and pulled the Hood up, hiding his hair as did the girls while Tenzo put on a white cloak with the hood up, hiding his identity from the rest of the world, they all disappeared into a teleportation jutsu as Team Ro appeared at different spots in and near the Hokage's office.
Naruto and Tenzo positioned themselves outside of the doors to the office as they stood their waiting. Naruto was told in the ettiqute class that Anbu ofteng guard important places and people, and will often quietly stand at different points, often times, you will be required to stand in a position for hours, without speaking or talking.
"I guess you know that this will be part of your duties for a while," said Tenzo as Naruto nodded.
"Good, at times, you will be required to go on missions but as a member of Team Ro, you're missions come directly from the Hokage," said Tenzo.
"Alright," said Naruto, as the two watched the Hokage leave the room.
"I believe I have done enough paperwork today, accompany me to the mission office," said Sarutobi as the two Anbu followed the Hokage, to the mission office where they then sat down, and began awaiting for Teams to arrive to ask for missions. First came Team 10, who looked at Naruto for a second, as they noticed his height.
"Umm, isn't he a bit young to be an Anbu, Lord Hokage?" asked Ino pointing towards Naruto.
"Oh, you mean, Ko, don't worry, he might be as young as you, but he is as skilled and as deadly as many of my other Anbu," said Sarutobi as Ino nodded, clearly shocked.
"Now then, here's your mission, you will have to paint the walls," said Sarutobi as he handed Asuma a mission scroll who noded. Next came in, Team 8, albiet with Kiba not yelling or talking, he clearly had learnt his lesson about yelling. Team 7 was the final group to arrive, a few hours later, clearly because of Kakashi's laziness.
They received their mission but then turned towards Naruto, to which Sasuke grew shocked, noticed by the slight widening of his. Naruto channeled chakra to his ears to hear their conversation.
"Kakashi-sensei, who was that, he seems to be younger than me, yet is in Anbu," said Sasuke.
"That is 'Ko', he's a member of the Hokage's personnel Anbu unit, known as Team Ro," replied Kakashi.
"Isn't he a bit young to be in Anbu?" asked Sakura.
"Anbu are decided by skill and ability rather than age, though there is age limit which the Commander decided to skip that this time," said Kakashi.
"Do we know him?" asked Sasuke.
"Maybe, maybe not," answered Kakashi mysteriously.
"How come, Sasuke's not in Anbu? he's obviously the most skilled Genin here," said Sakura, her fangirl tendency noticed.
"He's not as powerful as Ko, he might be as young as you, but in the shinobi world, age means very little, it doesn't determine skill or ability," explained Kakashi as Naruto cut off the chakra.
