"I'm here for a gym battle!" Ash proclaimed as he entered the gym, Cassie phasing through the swinging doors after him.
"Foolish trainer, you think you can best me, the sovereign of the skies, the whoosh of the wind, the master of the mighty flying type Pokemon?!" A voice called out from high above.
"I mean that's the hope." Ash commented.
"I AM FALKNER THE GYM LEADER OF VIOLET CITY PREPARE TO BE BESTED!" The boy said jumping down as a large bird caught him, the two reaching the ground eventually.
"A bit showy for my tastes, but alright." Cassie commented.
"Birds, flying types, easy enough." Ash said with a smirk.
"We'll see about that. In my gym we have three on three battles, you can make substitutions at any time, while I cannot." Falkner said. "Are these rules clear and do you accept them?"
"Yes, I accept." Ash said.
"Good, then meet my first Pokemon, let's go Jumpluff!" Falkner called out.
"Definitely not a bird, but is it a flying type?" Ash asked, pulling out his Pokedex.
"Jumpluff, the Cottonweed Pokemon, a Grass and Flying type." The Pokedex said.
"Looks easy to knock around, come on out Egguardo!" Ash called out.
"A fighting type in a flying gym, that's a new one." Falkner said. "Jumpluff use Cotton Spore!"
"Egguardo use Tackle!"
Egguardo rushed forward, getting covered in white fluff as he launched at Jumpluff.
"Jumpluff use Leech Seed!"
"Egguardo use Tackle!"
Egguardo rushed at Egguardo, his movements slowing down as he was wrapped up by the Leech Seed.
"Egguardo return! Pikachu use Quick Attack!"
"Jumpluff use Poison Powder!"
Pikachu's speed was fast enough to avoid the spores coming from Jumpluff, before slamming into the grass type and knocking it about.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"
"Jumpluff use Mega Drain!"
Pikachu sent out a bolt of electricity as he was pulled in by the draining attack.
"Now use Thunder!"
At such a close range, Jumpluff took the full force of the Thunder attack, causing their cotton spores to singe as they began to fall.
"Pikachu finish them with Quick Attack!"
Pikachu slammed into Jumpluff, knocking the grass type out.
"Jumpluff is unable to battle, the winner is Pikachu."
"Jumpluff return." Falkner said. "Well you beat Jumpluff, but I have plenty of other options. Come on out Gligar!"
Ash pulled out his Pokedex to look at what the new Pokemon was.
'Gligar, the Flyscorpion Pokemon, a Ground and Flying type.'
"Pikachu are you good to keep going?" Ash asked.
"Pika!" Pikachu exclaimed.
"Ash, the Pokedex said Gligar is a ground type, you know the type that takes no damage from electric attacks." Cassie pointed out.
"I know Pikachu is at a disadvantage but that hasn't stopped us yet! Pikachu use Quick Attack!"
"Gligar use Poison Sting!"
Pikachu raced across the arena as a flurry of stingers launched at him, tinging off of the ground.
"Gligar use Slash!"
"Pikachu use Mimic!"
Pikachu sliced his tail at Gligar's pincers, the two having a battle in the air.
"Gligar use Earthquake!"
Pikachu landed onto the ground and as soon as he touched down, he was thrown off of his feet and tossed about like a rag doll.
"Pikachu!" Ash exclaimed.
"Pi." Pikachu said, breathing heavily.
"Alright, use Quick Attack!"
"Gligar use Poison Sting!"
A flurry of needles shot from Gligar's tail, pelting Pikachu in the attack, and causing him to fall down without recovering.
"Pikachu is unable to battle, the winner is Gligar!" The gym guide declared.
"Great work Pikachu, take a well deserved rest." Ash said, setting Pikachu on his bag. "Egguardo come back out!"
"Gligar use Slash!"
"Egguardo use Tackle!"
Egguardo leapt at Gligar, tackling the Flyscorpion to the ground.
"Use Tackle again!"
"Gligar use Poison Sting!"
Egguardo slammed his arms into Gligar over and over again, as he avoided the stingers.
"Egguardo use Tackle!"
"Gligar use Guillotine!"
Gligar clamped one of his pincers around Egguardo until the fighting type stopped moving.
"Egguardo is unable to battle, the winner is Gligar!" The gym worker declared.
"No Egguardo, and no Pikachu. Vileplume isn't good against flying and Teddiursa is still too new. Rapidash is more than fast enough but she doesn't have the best of range. Come on out Dragonair!"
"Gligar use Slash!"
"Dragonair use Dragon Rage!"
Gligar rushed towards Dragonair only to get blasted by the blue flames, causing them to falter in their flight.
"Gligar use Poison Sting!"
"Dragonair use Hyper Beam!"
Dragonair's attack engulfed the poison sting and Gliagar in a bright light, blasting them into the wall of the arena.
"Gligar is unable to battle, the winner is Dragonair!"
"Great flying Gligar, take a well deserved rest." Falkner said. "Now for my final Pokemon, come on out Xatu! Use Shadow Ball!"
Still recovering from the Hyper Beam, Dragonair was prone to the attack hitting him and knocking him backwards.
"Dragonair use Slam!"
"Xatu use Peck!"
Xatu rushed at Dragonair, pecking them multiple times before the Dragon could even get off of the ground.
"Not good, Dragonair still hasn't mastered flying!" Cassie cried out.
"Dragonair use Dragon Rage!"
"Xatu use Future Sight!"
Dragonair prepped their Dragon Rage, only for it to backfire and then for them to get hit by the Future Sight.
"Dragonair!" Ash cried out at his injured Pokemon.
"Now Xatu use Shadow Ball!"
"Dragonair get out of there, you have to fly!" Ash called out.
The Shadow Ball launched at Dragonair, covering the arena floor in a cloud of smoke.
"No." Cassie said worriedly.
"Wait, where is it?" Falkner asked as the smoke cleared.
"DRAGO!" A roar cried as a large green blur slammed into Xatu from above, creating a crater on impact.
"What in the?" Cassie said in shock.
"DRAGONITE!" Ash exclaimed.
"Xatu use Shadow Ball!"
"Dragonite use Dragon Rage!"
Dragonite slammed his hands on the ground, unleashing a burst of blue flames that incinerated the Shadow Ball before striking Xatu.
"Xatu into the sky!"
"Dragonite after them with Fly!"
Dragonite rocketed into the air after Xatu, quickly catching up to the experienced flier.
"Now Dragonite use Hyper Beam!"
A bright light formed in Dragonite's mouth before unleashing the attack and engulfing Xatu in it.
"Xatu is unable to battle, the winners are Dragonite and Ash!" The gym trainer declared.
"Congratulations Ash, as proof of your victory I present you with these, the Zephyr Badge and a Technical Machine for the move Mud Slap." Falkner said.
"Thanks." Ash said. "And Dragonite you were AMAZING! You finally evolved!"
"Drago!" Dragonite cheered, tackling Ash to the ground and licking him.
"Alright, alright, I'm glad you're happy." Ash said, hugging his dragon.
