Chapter 4

Bat Bites & Tootharches

"Everyone ok?" i hear Keesha ask as we all got up from the ground, "Yes think so!" I say, "Yep! We must've disturbed the bats and now they are off to hunt for food!" Jyoti answers. Suddenly, there was a small gust of wind and the doors behind as slammed shut giving us all a almighty fight. We all wondered where that gust of wind came from as it was a still evening "Anyone else find that a little weird?" Keesha questions, "Yeah it had a magical feeling within it somehow! Shall we see if we can get out?" Jyoti then asks as they both look towards me "Alright i'll check!" i say as i walk towards the doors. I give them an almighty pull using all my muscle strength. It wasn't long until i realized that i was unable to open the doors, they had somehow locked themselves! "Right then now that we are in, lets start exploring!" i tell everyone as i turn around to lighten the mood "I am!" Jyoti says putting her hand up. "Ralphie? Are we locked in?" Keesha asks concerned, "Ummmmmmm" i say trying to think of a reasonable answer "Let's not worry about that now! Lets get our stuff out, i'll start by get out my notepad, pens and torch". Keesha and Jyoti did the same going through their bags for what they needed using the sunlight that remained around us. Keesha was looking at me with a blank face before she looked down to retrive her torch. She also got out a camera "Well i thought to take some pictures while there was still a little bit of sunlight within the castle as the camera will not work as well when its pitch dark" she says. We also decide to take some of our costumes off (we were still clothed) and stuffed them into our backpacks so we could move around a bit better (like hats, capes, long lab coat etc).

Then something court my eye, i looked up and noticed what looked like stratches on Keesha's arms "Keesha? Did the bats stratch you?" I asked her in concern. She looks at her arms "Oh, must've!" she answers "They are bleeding a little, i'll be fine!". I then look towards Jyoti and notice something on her neck "Jyoti? Looks like your bleeding from your neck!" I tell her. She looks at me with an expression on her face what red "What are you talking about?" and went to place her hand over her neck. She feels it for a few seconds before she pulls her hand away to see blood on her hand "I did feel a little prick like feeling on my neck as that swarm of bats flew past!". She then points to me "Ralphie...you have the same on your neck!". I then feel the side of my neck with my right hand and could feel wet-ness along what felt like 2 tiny puncture wound. Moving my hand away, i saw that i was bleeding too and had stratches on both tops of my hands!. Jyoti and i then looked towards Keesha "Guys, i think we have all been bitten!" she tells us as she was feeling her neck too, "Nonsense!" I say "We know that these bats are harmless and they do not drink blood!". "Thats not what you thought the first time we were here Ralphie!" Keesha yells to me but then starts to giggle, i then let out a huge breath and Jyoti starts questioning "But don't you think its a little weird that these bats have bitten us, if that's what they have done? Could they have drank our blood?". We all looked at each other and all agreed that it was a little weird "Oh no what if they have rabies!" she then continues. Keesha places one hand on Jyoti's shoulder to calm her down "Don't worry Jyoti, bats do not drink blood, they are mammals like you, me and Ralphie. They eat bugs, moths, drink water and milk particularly when they are young isn't that right Ralphie?" she asks me as she looks towards me. I agreed, it made me remember seeing the tiny pink baby bats drinking from their mothers milk that night. Hopefully we get to see that again tonight.

We got all our stuff out from our bags and Keesha began looking for some plasters and some cotton buds to patch us up "I never go far without some medical supplies!" Jyoti and I here her say in a happy voice "Anything in there for a toothache?" i ask her. For some reason my teeth were beginning to hurt "Just take out those fangs Ralphie!" Keesha tells me "Oh yeah! I forgot i was wearing them!" i answer back to her feeling stupid that i was still wearing them. When i went to remove them from my mouth, i began to notice something weird. They were stuck! I yanked and yanked it was like they had been glued on! I was for sure that i wouldn't have done something so stupid could i? Along with trying to get them out it, the pain got worst. "Ummm guys i cannot get them off!" i say while having my hand in my mouth "and it still hurts a little!", Jyoti and Keesha turn round to face me, "Funny enough i'm getting a toothache too!" Jyoti then answers placing her right hand over her mouth. Jyoti then continues to walk on as Keesha still digs around her bag "I did eat some candy before hand, that might've caused my toothache, maybe its the plastic fangs causing the pain for them too long!" she says to we while giggling. Keesha mentions nothing about her teeth or mouth apart from saying that she found the plasters "Found the plasters, now then are those wounds still bleeding? I'll still need to find the cotton buds!" Keesha said with a big grin. As i saw her grin i begin to notice something strange about her smile "Hey Keesh? I didn't know you were wearing vampire fangs too!" i asked her. She gave me a look "Are you trying to insult me Ralphie? Gosh you as bad as Carlos!" she angrliy answered to me. "Yeah Keesha, what's with your smile?" Jyoti then asks, Keesha then moves her hand towards her mouth and goes slient "Can't be!" she whispers "Oh bad! Oh bad! Oh bad bad bad!". Keesha then looks towards to Jyoti and points out her mouth too "Jyoti! You too!" she quietly shouts to her. "HA?" Jyoti answers in surprise, she too begins to place her hand over her mouth slowly. Thats when the expression on her face went from concerned to slightly uneasy "What's, what's happening?" she asks in a shaky voice. She then begins to walk backwards not realising that her backpack was within her path. Before Keesha and i could even warn her, Jyoti trips over the bag causing her to fall backwards hard onto the hard floor beneath her. "Jyoti!" Keesha and i scream "Are you alright?", "Yeah i think so! Don't think anythings broken, just might be a bit bruised tomorrow!" Jyoti answers bravely as she lies flat on the floor with her arms out in "L" shapes. Keesha and i both run towards her and both kneel beside her on the left and right "Did you hit your head? How many fingers am i holding?" Keesha asks questioning her. "Could this be magic?" Jyoti asks completely ignoring Keesha's question as she begins to sit herself up and rubs the back of her head, Keesha and I look at each other beginning to wonder too. We then began to look what was around us. It was getting darker but there was no Magic School Bus to be seen! Just stone walls, old cob webbed chandeliers & stair cases and warn down furniture. I then begin to examine a pool of light caused by the sunset peering through a window just behind from where Jyoti fell "I wonder..." i whisper to myself, "Ralphie? What's wrong?" Keesha asks in concern. I get up from kneeling beside Jyoti and begin to walk towards the sunlight "Ralphie? What are you doing?" Jyoti then asks also in concern, i didn't reply to them. I for once was curious and between you and me just a little excited to see what would happen if i stood in the sunlight. I came to the edge of what was left of the sunlight with my shoes just standing before it. I take a deep breath and made a glupping sound as i step into the light "Is it just me or are we turning into vampires?" i ask in question as notice that i was beginning to smoke and feel burning sensations on my skin.
