Zuko just joined team avatar, he isn’t trusted by everyone in the group yet. His only job (since his fire bending is weaker after changing sides) is to watch the fire. He knows how important it is to prove himself and so far he’s not doing a great job. When he starts to fall asleep while watching the fire it sparks a conversation between him and a not so understanding katara.

Master Yu and Xin Fu were not the only ones send by Toph's dad to 'rescue' her. Others hired fail to do so as well. Though Lao did say do whatever it take to bring Toph back, is he really willingly to pay that price when a mysterious man take the job

We all know and love Sokka, however... the main thing holding him back from being considered a powerful main character is his inability to use bending.
