Carly Black stared at the view before her. She stand on the ledge of a building. It was a beautiful view from there. It was a shame that she had to leave this place so quickly. Slowly, Carly prepared to do the deed. She took her boots off and placed them by her side. Carly took one last look at the sky. It swirled with blue and orange. A perfect sunset. This was it. This was the moment of truth. Carly closed her eyes...and jumped.

But the impact with the pavement never came.

Carly felt something tug onto her sweater.

She opened her eyes and saw a tree branch, having caught her sweater before the deadly impact.

Carly hadn't been too far from the pavement, just a few meters away.

She had been a few seconds away from dying.

"Dang it...stupid tree."

Carly moaned as she unhooked herself from the branch and landed "safely" on the ground.

Carly went back up the building and retrieved her shoes.

There was no point in trying again. By then, the class would notice her absence and soon everyone would be looking for her.

She grumbled as she went down the stairs, back to her hellish classroom.

"Carly Black. Why do you have leaves in your hair?"

Miss Jones asked as Carly came into the classroom and sat on her desk.

"Did you go to see the birdies?" A mean classmate named Lenny asked Carly, snickering. Carly remained silent.

"Ooh! I bet she thought she was a squirrel!" Another mean classmate named Anna snickered.

"Hey, don't be mean." A girl named Taylor said. She was probably one of the only people in Carly's class that was nice. "You don't know what she's been through."

Carly didn't want to even listen to their argument. She laid her head down on her desk and went to sleep.
