Anthony walked into a restaurant with a 9-year-old KC. He leaned down and whispered in her ear.

"You do anything that will make me look bad, you'll pay for it," he threatened her.

He looked up and saw a man walking up to them.

"Hey, Tony," the man said.

"Hey, Bill," he said. "How are you?"

"Great," Bill replied. "How 'bout you?"

"I've been strugglin' actually," he responded with a lie. "Raising a girl on my own is hard. I wanted to take her out for breakfast, but I don't know if I'll be able to afford it, but I guess we'll see."

"Hey, how 'bout I buy you two breakfast," Bill offered.

"Thanks, Bill," Anthony told him.

They sat down.

"Get whatever you want, lil lady," Bill told KC.

"Thanks," she said in a genuine appreciative tone.

When the waitress came around, she took their drink orders.

"Dr. Pepper, please," KC said.

Anthony saw the eager look in the girl's eyes.

"No," he said in a nonchalant way, knowing she'd bend to whatever he said in public.

"Never mind…" KC said with a disappointed look in her eyes.

"Ah, come on, Tony," Bill said. "Soda once in a while isn't bad."

He looked at KC with a subtle glare that only she recognized.

"Sure," he said, looking at Bill, faking a smile.

After they got their drinks, they ordered and got their food. KC started eating her chocolate chip waffles, nearly drowning it in syrup, including her bacon.

"You must really like waffles," Bill commented. "Who makes your favorite?"

Without a thought, she replied, "Rachel."

"Who's Rachel?"

"My boyfriend's mom," she replied.

Anthony shot her a glare.

"Boyfriend?" Bill questioned with a laugh. "You must have your hands full, Tony."

"You have no idea," he said. "She's a very licentious little girl."

He was dog-whisting her, which means subtly saying something only the target would understand, in an attempt to trigger or offend the target; as he, just few days before, called her, a 9-year-old, a whore.

KC slammed her fork on her plate in anger, making a loud clanking noise. She looked around and saw some people staring at her. She looked at Anthony and could tell he was mad at her.

"Sorry," she apologized.

As they continued eating, the men talked.

"So, how'd you wind up getting custody of her, Tony?" Bill questioned.

"Her mom went crazy and got into drugs when she was really little and they had no choice but to give me custody," he flat out lied.

"Liar," KC said under her breath.

"What did you say, lil girl?" Bill questioned, innocently.

"KC!" She raised her voice. "My name is KC! And he's a LIAR! My mom is a nice woman. She doesn't do drugs! And he was calling me a WHORE."

People gasped at her language.

Anthony smirked before he reacted how he knew they would expect from him.

"I did not raise you to talk like that," he told her in an eerily calm but stern voice. "I'm sorry everyone. We're going home. Sorry for the scene."

Maybe you should pick up a hobby/ Another way of using your body/ That's not so mass destructive/ Head or heart crushing/ 'Cause that's not what love is

Once Anthony opened the front door, he shoved KC. She stumbled and fell to the floor.

"You're just like your mother, you don't know how to listen," he berated her. "I told you not to make me look bad."

"You were lying!" KC stated, raising her voice. "And you were dog-whistling me!"

"No one's going to believe a little girl that looks unhinged," he told her. "See, I can use big words too. You're not special."

"You're unhinged," she stated.

KC started getting tears in her eyes.

"I didn't yell and throw things," he stated. "I was calm. Who do you think they'd believe?"

"You do yell and throw things," she corrected.

"But I don't make a fool of myself in public," he countered her. "You tried to make me look bad." He grabbed her arm and pulled her up. Still holding her arm, he got in her face, "Now, you're gonna pay for it."

He punched her in her eye. He shoved her against the wall with heavy force, causing her to hit her head.

After the dizziness settled, she broke his grasp and ran to her room, shutting the door behind her. She hid in her closet. She heard her bedroom door open. He immediately opened the closet. She tried to leave, but he pushed her back into it, closing the door. He started tying a rope around the door handle.

"You better have filled up on those waffles," he told her, "because you're going to be in there for a few days."

"No daddy, please!" KC pleaded. "I'm sorry."

He fastened the rope, locking her in, and left the room.

Derrick and KC sat in his apartment, watching a movie. KC glanced at her phone, seeing it was already 10pm.

"I should probably get home," she said.

"Why not just stay the night?" He suggested.

"I don't think that would be a good idea," KC said.

"Why not?"

"Well, we haven't even been official for 2 weeks," she said. "And I promised Maya that we'd go to school together tomorrow."

"Let's at least finish the movie," he offered.

"That I can do."

After a bit, he leaned in, and they started kissing. He immediately turned it into a make out session, which she went along with, until he started to try to insert his tongue. She broke the kiss.

"I'm not ready for that," she said. "I'm okay with kissing, but not that far."

"Okay," he said, with a shrug.

They started kissing and started to try to unbutton her pants. She broke the kiss once again.

"What are you doing?" She questioned.

"Just let it happen," he said in more of a demanding tone.

He reached for her pants again.

"No," she said.

"We don't have to go all the way, just let me touch you," he told her.

"I'm not ready for that," she said.

"Please," he pleaded with her.

"No," she said more confidently.

"Maybe you don't like me as much as I thought," he said.

"Can we please just finish the movie?"

"Sure," he said.

After a bit, he pulled her onto his lap, facing her toward him. He raised his eyebrows at her with a mischievous smirk. She went to get off of him.

"I'm going home," she said. He held her there. "Let me get off, please."

"Come on, you can't tell me you don't want to," he said. "At least with clothes on."

"I already said no," she told him. He let go and let her get off. She collected her things. "This isn't going to work out."

"I'm sorry," he lied. "I thought you were just trying to do 'hard to get'."

"I don't do that," she said. "I'm going home."

"I'm sorry that it hurt your feelings that I was trying to get intimate with you," he said. "Guess that makes me a bad guy."

"No, it doesn't," she said, putting her stuff down. "I'm sorry. Just listen when I say no. I'm not playing some game."

"Okay," he agreed. "I promise you're safe with me."

"I should really get home," she said. "It's already 10:45."

Thank God you're just a part of my *teens*/ Thank God we're not married with a family/ 'Cause I don't want my daughters/ Thinking it's normal/ It's not and never will be what love is

32-year-old KC stared at her daughters, Brooklyn and Cairistiona, playing together. She looked at her tattoos of angel wings with the texts

She looked back at her daughters. Her girls, that are 10 and 7-years-old, respectfully, at this point, were building a girl-cave out of blankets. Brooklyn went up KC.

"Where's Aaron?" She inquired to her mom.

"He's practicing with his band," she answered her.

"Is Ethan's cousin there?"

"Alex?" I questioned.

"Yeah," she said.

"He's probably at the Substation with his dad," she replied.

"Can I go?"

"I'll walk you over there," KC told her. "Cairi, come with us. We're going to the Waverly Sub Station."

Brooklyn got a big smile on her face. As they walked, Brooklyn spoke up.

"Mom?"

"Yeah, Brooke?" KC acknowledged her.

"Am I too young to date?"

"Is this about Alex?" She inquired.

"Well…he kissed me at school and asked me to be his girlfriend," Brooklyn informed her.

"Ew," Cairistiona exclaimed in disgust.

"Actually, I was younger when your brother's dad asked me to be his girlfriend," KC told her. "So, no, I don't necessarily think you're too young. Are you ready for that?"

"I think so," she said.

"Then, go for it, but if he ever mistreats you, you tell me, okay?"

"Okay," she replied. "I promise I will."

"So, is that why we're going over?" KC questioned. "So you can tell him your answer?"

"Yeah," she responded with a smile.

So tell me, did you have it, did you have it planned out?/ Tell me, did you know exactly when you'd let me down?/ No logical reason, you'll get off on the feeling/ Of preying on my weakness like that/ If I were you, I'd have some trouble getting sleep at night/ If you were me, you'd see why I think everything's a lie/ No logical reason, you'll get off on the feeling/ On preying on my weakness like that/ And that's not even the worst of it/ It's that you did it on purpose

35-year-old KC was discussing her autobiography Surviving the Duplicity on a TikTok livestream. She allowed people to join and ask her some questions.

"So, you say in your book that you wish you had seen the signs a lot earlier," on girl stated. "Why didn't you leave David when he first hit you?"

"I wanted to believe that he was nothing like the monster I grew up under," KC explained. "I essentially gaslit myself."

"Is that his real name, by the way?"

"No," KC replied. "I was not able to legally use his real name."

A young man joined next.

"Do you think that you staying had to do with your dad's abuse?" He asked.

"Yes, I think that it is directly linked," she confirmed.

"Is it just girls that you're advocating for in your book, or is it boys too?"

"It's both, as well as for non-binary people," she said. "Abuse does not discriminate."

"What was the worst abuse that you experienced in your opinion?"

"The emotional and psychological abuse," she replied. "The physical and sexual abuse were absolutely horrible, but having my life, and my family and friends' lives, threatened- as well as being belittled, called names, and manipulated- left a more lasting impression."

"So, does the sexual abuse from David not affect you anymore?"

"That couldn't be further from the truth," KC responded. "It does, greatly. The emotional and psychological abuse just left scars that I will never be able to heal completely."

Another girl joined the live.

"Was writing the book healing, or was it difficult?" She asked.

"Both," the 35-year-old answered. "Talking about it to someone- in this case, the readers- can be very healing, but writing this book brought up a lot of unwanted feeling, including feeling the pain again."

"Then why did you write it?" She questioned. "Did you know it would hurt you?"

"I anticipated the possibility of it," KC answered her, "but that doesn't dismiss the fact that sharing my story could help others." KC saw the time. "Looks like we're out of time. I'll be back on live sometime soon. Stay strong. Bye, Harmonizers."

With that KC ended the live and shut her laptop.

"Was that hard, mom?" Her 20-year-old son asked.

"Very," she said. "Where's your dad?"

"Taking Melanie to the zoo," he replied.

"That's nice," he said. "Just so you know, I read it."

"My book?"

"Yeah," he replied. "I'm sorry you went through all that, mom."

"Well, I had some good in there too," KC told him.

"Dad…Jaxon…sounds like he was a really good guy," he told his mom.

"He was," she said, turning her whole body toward him, now. "And you are just like he was. We may have had problems in the past, but you have such a kind heart and good intentions."

"Well, that's because of you my other dad too," he said. "I have really good parents."

She smiled at him.

"I love you, Aaron," she told him. "Can you go check on Brooklyn and Alex?"

"Sure, mom."

He left to check on his 14-year-old sister and her boyfriend.

KC looked over at her book and at her newer tattoos.
