So this is what I meant in a previous author's note about the fic idea involving Team Prime experiencing Earth things for the first time. I'll post this as a separate fic and you all can request other things you want me to write the Bots experiencing for the first time! These won't be super long scenes, unless the request needs a longer scene to encompass their experience.
Also, as a reminder, you can request alternate scenes, such as if Robyn hadn't gotten kidnapped and was involved in rescuing Agent Fowler and protecting the kids on the warship. Or you can request scenes where Mayfly is present but Robyn isn't, such as when Mayfly went with Optimus and Ratchet and fought the undead Cybertronians.
But for now, I'll let you all read this short little scene.
Hope you like it!
God Bless and Good Day!
~The Lupine Sojourner
One thing I did not expect, though perhaps I should have, is the amount of explaining I have had to do while helping the Autobots get their base established. I've had to explain so many different phrases and words I have long lost count, not to mention the things we updated in the base (like a full bathroom, kitchenette, and entertainment center) so humans can comfortably use it alongside the Autobots. (I even had to explain what clothes are and why we wear them when they were confused why I had 'changed colors'.)
Thankfully, some of it can be explained by telling them to look it up and they ask any questions they have after they get the definition, but some things I just have to let them experience.
Take today, for example. When I arrived this morning at the base to help out, it was clear and bright outside, but by lunchtime, clouds had apparently rolled in and a thunderstorm started.
Of course, I didn't realize this until a thunderclap made the Autobots jump and bring out their blasters, thinking we were under attack.
"Wait, hold on! We're not under attack!" I explain. "It's just rain! A thunderstorm is perfectly normal!"
That only made them more skittish, however.
"Well, there goes my hopes of getting the antenna installed on the roof today." Ratchet grumbles as everyone shuffles awkwardly, mumbling about being stuck in the base and looking up at the ceiling worriedly.
I raise a brow. "Why are you stuck in the base? You'd short-circuit in the rain or something?" The Autobots pause what they're doing to stare at me like I had said something weird or wrong. "What?"
"Uh…I don't know what rain is like here on Earth," Bulkhead replies uncertainly, "but on Cybertron, it's very dangerous and corrosive. It could kill a Cybertronian if they're caught out in it too long."
I blink. "Whoa. There's some spots on Earth that get corrosive rain, but mostly it's harmless water. C'mon, I'll show you!" I jog toward the elevator that would take us up to the top of the silo.
No one has moved to join me.
"Are you sure?" Mayfly asks tentatively.
I try my best not to laugh as I nod. "I'm sure. I've been playing in the rain since I was a kid, but I haven't done it for a while. Now come on!" I wave them over. "Ratchet, if you want, you could probably bring the antenna and set it up."
Slowly, Mayfly enters the elevator, followed by Bumblebee. Bulkhead hesitates, but comes over when Optimus starts walking over.
"I believe it would be wise to experience more of life on Earth, since our stay here has become indefinite." He says as he ducks into the elevator.
Finally, Ratchet grabs a few tools and the antenna before, grumbling all the way, entering the elevator.
We arrive at the top and I jog out into the downpour, whooping and spinning to show it wasn't hurting me.
I turn to see the Autobots standing there, hands up, processing the feeling of rain without it hurting them.
"Isn't it great?" I spin again, letting my already wet hair down. "Feels like a shower!"
Yes, I'd told them what a shower was. I was told it's similar to an oil bath on Cybertron.
"If this is what a shower feels like, it's no wonder you stay in there for a long time." Mayfly chuckles.
"Hey! I resemble that remark, thank you very much!" I snap, hands on my hips, pretending to be offended.
Mayfly laughs. "You certainly do."
The rest of the Autobots kinda mill around, Ratchet grumpily walking over to the area the antenna was supposed to go, mumbling about rust.
"Relax a little, Ratch!" Bulkhead chuckles, jostling Ratchet's shoulder. "This is kinda nice, in a way. I like it!"
"Don't come to me when you start rusting too badly to move." Ratchet snaps in reply. "And don't call me Ratch!"
I sigh. "C'mon, let him work. He won't be happy til he's got the base set up."
"And even then he won't be happy." Mayfly teases softly, setting me on her shoulder. "Thanks for this, by the way. It's nice to experience new things."
I smile and lean against her head. "No problem. It's fun sharing my planet with you all."
"I like it here." Mayfly smiles, her hand up to catch raindrops that ping musically off her metal body. "It's so full of life and new experiences we never would have had if we hadn't left Cybertron."
I sit up. "True, even if the circumstances of you leaving weren't ideal."
Her eyes go sad and I regret bringing up Cybertron's current condition. "Hopefully, one day we can restore Cybertron."
"I feel confident you will." I assure her despite no idea how that could happen with them being stranded on Earth. I know Optimus wants to find a way to get back to Cybertron, but how that is going to happen is anyone's guess at this point.
"And when we do, we'll find a way to bring you to Cybertron and show you our home."
"I look forward to it."
