A/N: A little longer chapter then the previous, the next chapter might be the end of this horrendously long flashback/introduction to the story, it MIGHT.
As the two batwing demons carry Somber high above Sen's fortress, he begins to wonder where they're taking him. As he ponders on, the batwing demons stop their ascend, and the picturesque view of the Anor Londo architecture comes into view.
Somber is left speechless after witnessing it, he's heard about the city of the gods from stories, but he has never seen it with his own eyes.
As the batwing demons let him go on a small platform, he begins to turn around, taking in more of the city's view. After observing the horizon for some time, Somber made his way down the staircase and turned left into a building, which led him down more stairs into a room with a bonfire and firekeeper.
After resting and chatting a bit with the firekeeper, he ascended the stairs once again and went straight to the elevator directly on the opposite side that he exited from.
After making his way through the gargoyle, multiple painting guardians while balancing on a small beam high above the ground, and dodging multiple arrows some silver knights shot his way as he made his way through the rooftops. He had made it into the main cathedral, where he found a bonfire, and sitting next to it was Solaire.
"Solaire!" Somber's voice rang out in the quiet cathedral.
"Friend! It's wonderful to see you again."
Somber went to sit aside from Solaire at the bonfire, and they began chatting more.
"Smooth summoning out there? Anytime you see my brilliantly shining signature, do not hesitate to call upon me. You've left me with quite an impression. I would relish a chance to assist you." Solaire said heartily.
"Oh please, I'm not a big figure requiring praise," Somber responded.
"After all I'm just a humble adventurer on a quest to link the flame."
"Well I'm sure your travels have been great, and what is that? A new weapon I see. How did you obtain it?" Solaire asked curiously.
"Oh, this?" Somber pointed to the Drake sword. "I got it from killing the fire Drake on the bridge in the undead parish," he responded casually.
"Wow friend, you seem to be a mighty warrior by my standards." Solaire perks up.
"Oh don't bother yourself with it, you're a great warrior also, I've seen you performing those miracles like it was nothing!"
"Oh, it's nothing friend! Hah hah hah!" The two of them shared a laugh.
"By the way, the name's Somber, Somber of Astora." Somber had just realized that he forgot to introduce himself properly to Solaire, hoping he wouldn't come off as rude.
"I'm grateful to hear your name, Somber. I was begging to wonder if you had forgotten it in the undead asylum!" Solaire joked.
"Hah hah. No, my memory isn't that bad!" he retorted back."
"You really are fond of chatting with me, aren't you? If I didn't know better, I'd think you had feelings for me!" Solaire responded jokingly, at least that's what Somber thought, as unbeknownst to him he began to blush under his helm a bit at the remark.
"Oh, no, dear me. Pretend you didn't hear that! Hah hah hah!" And the two of them laughed it off.
"Well, Solaire. I better get going, there's a flame to link." Somber said, getting up from his seat on the marble floor.
"Sure my friend, when you see my brightly shining signature, don't hesitate to call upon me! I won't bite!" Solaire joked as he waved goodbye to Somber who waved back and left the room.
As Somber made his his way through the countless silver knights of the cathedral, he stumbled upon Solaire's signature, he called Phantom Solaire and the two of them began dealing with the knights at the bottom of the room, after that the two of them climbed up a gigantic staircase and entered what looked like a large hall with pillars on each side of it and a balcony on the top right side.
As the two of them looked in awe they spotted the executioner, Smough as well as the Dragonslayer Ornstein, who dropped down from the balcony above. The two gave each other a nod and both went to fight separate opponents. Somber taking Smough and Solaire taking Ornstein.
Once the two of them had separated Smough and Ornstein, they got to work. Solaire dodges the attacks of Ornstein as the larger Demi-God attempts to stab at him with his spear, and Somber is attempting not to get smashed by Smough's hammer.
After dodging a particularly heavy attack from Smough, Somber found an opening in the executioner's guard as he was withdrawing his hammer from the ground. He went in for a special attack, he ran behind the executioner, brought his sword up, and slashed it down, creating the same black flame wall from before. Dealing damage to the executioner as he withdrew his weapon. Somber clearly proud of himself, began to slash more at Smough's back as he was promptly smashed by said executioner with a swipe of his hammer.
As Somber flies across the hall, Solaire dodges another swipe of the Dragonslayer's spear. The dragonslayer finally made a stop in his relentless barrage, only for him to begin charging a sunlight spear, Solaire drew his own and they threw the energy javelins at each other, both hitting their target. As Solaire takes a swig of estus to heal from the attack, Ornstein begins to throw another spear, which Solaire dodges and runs in for a running attack which surprisingly strikes the dragonslayer, who responds by stabbing his spear through Solaire's chest and throwing him across the room.
As Somber sees the executioner approaching, he takes a swig of Estus which heals his wounds and he gets up ready to fight once more. He sees Solaire flying directly in his direction. He catches Solaire, who unsurprisingly is way heavier than Somber, and Somber trips and falls to his back Solaire on top of him, taking a sip of Estus before the two get back on their feet and run off to each of their opponents.
Smough brings his hammer down only for it to be dodged by Somber, and he delivers a slash to the executioner's arm. Smough swipes his hammer at Somber which is dodged and another stab finds its way to the stomach of the executioner, who frantically jumps up and drops down in an attempt to crush Somber.
Solaire rushes at Ornstein, who attempts to lunge at Solaire only for it to be dodged by him and for Ornstein to be impaled instead. As Solaire withdraws his blade, he makes another attempt to Slash at Ornstein, who parties the attack and backsteps away in an attempt to lunge at Solaire again, who recognizes the pattern and repeats what he did. The dragonslayer now very injured, collapsed from his injuries as Smough recognized this opportunity to slam his hammer into the dragonslayer, who was crushed under the weight of the attack. Lightning begins to cover Smough's hammer, as it travels up the handle and onto the executioner's body as well, Somber backs out in fear of being electrocuted, as Smough finishes his stance and gets ready to fight once more.
Solaire and Somber rush to the executioner, the two of them rolling out of the way as the hammer is brought down on them, they rush at both sides of the executioner cutting him before rushing behind him and plunging their weapons into his back in sync.
After withdrawing their weapons and being met with a very angry slam of the hammer, the two drink their Estus and get back into the fight, Solaire throwing Lightning Spears at the executioner, which don't appear to be effective as Somber stabs and cuts at his stomach, dodging his attacks and occasionally getting hit, which he fixes by drinking his Estus. After a long fight, the executioner is finally brought down after Solaire and Somber unleash their Strongest attack on the executioner, killing him instantly with their blow.
After Smough falls, Solaire's phantom begins to fade away as Somber collapses onto his knees in exhaustion, slowly catching his breath.
After getting up and walking over to the elevator, he steps onto it and rides it up to the upper floor before lighting a bonfire right in front of a door one of the gigantic sort. He pushes the door open and witnesses a gorgeous figure, lying in the middle of the room as it begins to speak.
"Thou hast journey'd far, and overcome much, chosen Undead. Come hither, child..."
Somber approached the lady and knelt.
"O chosen Undead. I am Gwynevere. Daughter of Lord Gwyn; and Queen of Sunlight. Since the day Father his form did obscureth, I have await'd thee. I bequeath the Lordvessel to thee. And beseech thee. Succeed Lord Gwyn, and inheriteth the Fire of our world. Thou shall endeth this eternal twilight, and avert further Undead sacrifices." She spoke as Somber listened carefully.
"Since the day Father his form did obscureth, I have await'd thee. Once living, now Undead, and a fitting heir to father Gwyn thou art, and beseech thee succeed Lord Gwyn, and inheriteth the Fire of our world. A grave and arduous test of mettle, yea, it shall be. Indeed, we had felt the warmth of Fire, its radiance, and the life it sustaineth. Without Fire, all shall be a frigid and frightful Dark." She said, taking in a deep breath before continuing.
"Please. Father's role thou should assume, and inheriteth the Fire of our world. Thou shall endeth this eternal twilight, and avert further Undead sacrifices. Kingseeker Frampt, the primordial serpent, shall guide thee." Somber was at a loss for words, not knowing how to take all of this information in before the princess began to speak again.
"Now thou shalt go forth, chosen Undead. May thou be one with the sunlight for evermore."
"Farewell" is all that Somber could muster before taking the Lordvessel and running out of the room.
He stood at the bonfire for hours trying to figure out what the lordvessel did, and where he should go next, the princess said something about 'Kingseeker frampt' maybe he should see him out… he thought as he reached out a hand over the bonfire unknowingly and thought of where the individual might be before a stray thought flew into his mind "Firelink shrine" Then the space around him began to shift, throwing him across time and space before long landing him at the bonfire of fire link shrine.
Right after the initial shock of having just teleported wears off, Somber realizes how dizzy and nauseous the travel made him feel causing him to run over past the crestfallen warrior, onto the ledge of the shrine, and vomit off the side.
After having collected himself, he turned around only to receive a dozen snarky comments from the crestfallen warrior, which he chose to ignore as he passed him and headed in the direction of the loud snoring sound.
As he entered the ruined church, he saw a large serpent in the small pool of water, he drew his weapon and slowly approached it, nudging it with the tip of his sword which appeared to wake the serpent.
"Ahh, hello. Was it you who rang the Bell of Awakening? I am the Primordial Serpent, Kingseeker Frampt, close friend of the Great Lord Gwyn. Chosen Undead, who has rung the Bell of Awakening. I wish to elucidate your fate, and the very reason your kind have appeared. Chosen Undead, your fate... is to succeed the Great Lord Gwyn. So that you may link the Fire, cast away the Dark, and undo the curse of the Undead. Now, let us take that vessel on a journey. I assume you are ready. Now, be still!" The serpent said as he opened his large jaw and took Somber whole in his mouth before he had a chance to react.
As Somber lay there inside of the serpent's mouth, gagging at the whole concept of this ordeal, he soon is spat out in a place that only looks like a large altar and a large gate at the end of it.
"This is the Firelink Chamber, for the successor of Lord Gwyn. Now, place the Lordvessel on the altar." Frampt said, urging Somber to place the Lordvessel on the altar.
As Somber approached the altar and placed the Lordvessel upon it, he began to speak once more.
"Very well. As Kingseeker, I shall now instruct you, the Lord's successor, in your next task. To achieve your fate, fill the vessel with powerful souls, commensurate to the great soul of Gwyn. Scarce few possess such brilliant souls. Gravelord Nito, the Witch of Izalith, the Four Kings of New Londo, who inherited the shards of Gwyn's soul... and Lord Gwyn's former confidant, Seath the Scaleless. All of their souls are required to satiate the Lordvessel. ... Are you ready? Then we shall return. Stay still for a moment!" Frampt said as he took Somber into his mouth again and brought him outside of the chamber.
As Somber practically jumps out of Frampt's mouth, he begins to run away from him, utterly disgusted at the sight of his armor being covered in the saliva of the serpent as he desperately tries to think of a way to clean it all off.
