Earth - Leaf village. Uzumaki Complex
Jane was sitting on the living room couch, looking at the photo album her stepmother had given her as a gift on the morning of her 11th birthday. She flipped through the pages, seeing images from her childhood. She smiled as she looked at photos from her previous birthdays. She remembered the happy moments she had with her family.
She also remembered the sad times when her mother could not be there. Her parents were not married, and her father was a Uzumaki branch member. They met in army training and spent a few nights together which resulted in her birth.
Her mother did not want to give up her career in the army and agreed that her father would take her to be raised within the Clan. But as soon as she turned 1, her father remarried and she gained a stepmother and a half-brother.
She remembered when she was younger, and always imagined living with her biological mother on a military base. Her mother was a soldier in the army and was always busy with her missions and training. She didn't have much time to visit her daughter, and sometimes she wouldn't send any messages to her for months. And Jane missed her mother.
She also felt anger and sadness because her mother didn't pay attention to her, didn't call her, or didn't visit her. She wondered if she loved her, if she cared for her if she missed her. She wanted to have a present mother, a loving mother, a mother who was her best friend.
She closed the photo album and hugged it to her chest. She looked at her stepmother, who was much more her mother than her biological mother, who was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. She got up and walked over to her, kissing her on the cheek.
"Mom, I love you so much. You are the best mom in the world." Her stepmother Yori was a kind and caring woman, who always treated her with love and for that reason, Jane always called her mother.
"I also love you very much, my daughter." She hugged Jane smiling. "Your chocolate cake is almost ready, I made it just the way you like it. Now go call your brother and father so we can have breakfast."
Jane smiled and ran upstairs. First, she went to her brother's room where he was watching a cartoon on television. He was holding a teddy bear that their father had given him for his seventh birthday. He was laughing as he watched the characters' adventures on screen.
Looking at this scene, Jane felt a pang in her chest as she remembered the situation of her brother who had been born with a serious case of Vrolik syndrome, which causes extreme fragility in the bones; he was born with serious fractures in his legs and even with modern medicine it is almost impossible for Jeff to be able to walk, which never bothered her parents who invested in studies of the disease to alleviate the fragility of his bones.
Because of the illness, her brother was very restricted from playing as he wanted and was always kept indoors with someone watching him to avoid any accidents.
However, with advances in the study of Vrolik syndrome, doctors were able to develop a treatment that strengthened his brother's bones. And like a true Uzumaki Jeff faced rehabilitation and never gave up until he was considered strong enough to no longer be closely monitored to prevent him from getting hurt.
The boy quickly adapted to his new situation and began to feel happy and free to do what he never could when he was younger. His family still kept in touch with doctors so they could monitor his brother's progress, which would help treat more people with Vrolik Syndrome.
She shook her head, coming back to reality. She looked at the teddy bear in the clown costume in her brother's arms and smiled again. The teddy bear was a gift that his father had given to his brother who named him "Buggy the Clown" and was his brother's favorite toy. It was also the cause of his new nickname "Joker" which suited his cheerful personality.
"Jeff, Mom is calling for breakfast," she said but her brother seemed very focused on the program.
"Hurry up, otherwise it will get cold!" - she insisted.
"I'm coming, Jane" Jeff replied and turned off the TV hugging his sister and said. "Congratulations, Jane! You're the best sister in the world."
"Thanks, Jeff, you're also the best brother in the world. Now go to the kitchen."
After calling her brother Jane went to call her father, who was in the office working on his clan's new security proposals. He was the security leader of the Uzumaki clan. His father Kenji was also a happy and fun man, who told him stories and jokes.
Entering the office she called him. "Dad, mom is calling to come and have breakfast."
"I'm coming, daughter! " he agreed. And he closed the computer and hugged his daughter. "Congratulations, Jane! You are my princess."
"Thanks, Dad."
When the two went downstairs they found their mother and brother sitting at the table with coffee already ready. Her mother had made toast, eggs, orange juice, and coffee. His mother had already offered a bowl of ramen and a bowl of tomato soup with rice cooked at the kamidana [Shinto home shrine].
But what caught our attention was the beautiful chocolate cake in the center of the table. Her mother hugged her.
"Congratulations, Jane, you are my light and I wish you to always light up my life."
"Thanks, Mom! The cake you made is incredible." Jane sat at the table with her father and began to eat.
In the middle of this, they started talking about their day and their plans for Jane's birthday.
"Jane, we're going to do everything the way you want, daughter. Just the four of us in the morning and then we're going to walk in the park and have a picnic with the rest of the clan." Her father said.
"Dad, thank you. I wanted to spend my birthday morning with just you guys today and then spend the rest of the day with the clan."
His mother smiled at his excitement and said. "Then we better eat soon to start the day."
...
After breakfast, as a form of worship to the two Gods, they took the bowls and ate, asking for blessings for the rest of the day.
Jane, Jeff, and their parents got ready to go to the park. They grabbed a basket with sandwiches, fruit, and Jane's cake. They headed to the park that was in the clan compound.
There, they met the other clan members, who were scattered throughout the park. They greeted Jane and gave her gifts. Some of the closest family members were her father and stepmother.
His paternal grandfather, Takashi, who was an elder of the clan, was wise and strong, and he loved teaching the traditions to the younger members of the clan.
His paternal aunt, Akiko, who was one of the strongest ninjas in the clan, was even part of Hogake's personal Anbu. She was brave and loyal and protected the clan from external dangers with her claws and teeth.
Her cousin, Haruki, who was Jane's best friend. And how she shared the same tastes and dreamed of being a doctor like Jane's mother.
Her maternal grandmother [Note/Are from Jane's stepmother's family.] Kimiko was an art dealer with a large gallery. She was kind and beautiful, and after retiring she taught art to children at the village orphanage.
Her maternal uncle, Kazuki, who was her mother's younger brother, had taken over her grandmother's business since his older sister had become a ninja doctor. He was fun and creative and took her grandmother's art gallery to a new level.
Her maternal grandfather Masato was an artist and the head of hee grandmother's gallery. And that was the reason the two fell in love.
Her clan had a big picnic under a Sakura tree. They ate, drank, talked, and laughed. They sang happy birthday to Jane and cut the cake.
The other children played with running, flying, hiding, and transforming. Jane had a great time.
It had been an incredible day that day. She had everything she wanted: her family, her clan. Her birthday was perfect.
She felt loved and special.
