Chapter 14 Birthday Surprise
I had just dropped Henry off at school and was currently running my routes. Regina was going to Zelena's house so they could talk. She didn't want to go at all, but with some convincing on my part, she decided to go. I picked up my phone and called her.
Ring! Ring!
"Hello?"
"Hey, babe, I wanted to wish you luck and keep an open mind."
"Emma, do you know how hard it is for me to even think about forgiving her for everything she's done to me?"
I sighed in frustration and said, "I know. I was there, too, remember. I felt your heart break when she revealed her deception and that she was pregnant with Robin's baby. You and Robin's relationship changed, and it wasn't a good change. I don't think you completely trusted him after he left you and went off with Zelena disguised as Marion."
"You're right. Robin had to regain my trust, but I accepted him with open arms because I loved him. A large part of me still didn't trust him until the day he died, all because of his actions when he chose who we all thought was Marion over me. Huh, why am I doing this?"
I smiled and said, "So Robin and Katherine can have their aunts in their lives. So you and Zelena can mend what was broken and start fresh."
"What did I do to deserve you?"
"Being your smart ass, Evil Queen turned Savior self who is carrying our baby."
"I love you, Emma. Always had and always will."
"Love you, too, babe. Always until all the stars in the universe turn cold."
"Well, I've arrived at my destination. Wish me luck."
"Good luck, you got this."
We hung up, and I arrived at my destination.
-StoryBrooke Jewelry-
I opened the door and walked into the store. Happy came out, smiled, and greeted me.
"Good morning, Sheriff!"
I smiled and said, "Good morning, Happy."
"What can I help you with today?"
"I'm looking for something special, but you can't tell anyone."
He made a gesture signaling his lips were sealed. I continued, "I'm looking for a ring."
His mouth dropped, and I shushed him, "Yes, that type of ring, but you promised!"
"I know I did, so I will keep my mouth shut. Follow me."
He led me to the section with beautiful diamond rings in all shapes and sizes. I decided to go toward the sets rather than the individual ring. I looked at the square cuts and ruled against them because I couldn't see Regina wearing something like that. I looked at the round cuts and decided it wasn't Regina. I moved on toward the oval and pear-shaped rings.
"You are in the right section if you are looking to impress her."
I chuckled a little and said, "I want to wow her! I want her to be able to say yes instantly."
Happy picked out one oval-shaped set and one pear-shaped set. "If you want to take her breath away, I would go with the pear-shaped set."
I picked up the pear-shaped ring and admired the beautiful tear-drop diamond that looked like it had a diamond crown on top of the rounded part, and small diamonds outlined the big diamond and lined the two sides of the engagement and wedding band.
"I know her ring size if you don't…"
"Size six," I smiled and continued, "I'm a step ahead of you. I watched her order a ring online, and she put her size as a six. I'll take this one."
I didn't care about the price tag for the first time in my life. I knew this ring had to have cost over two thousand dollars, but I would pay whatever it took as long as I had the perfect ring that described Regina to me.
"I will call and let you know when it's ready."
I smiled and said, "Thanks, Happy. Remember, don't say a word to anyone!"
"My lips are sealed."
I smiled, tapped the display case, and turned to leave. "Have a good day, Happy."
"You, too, Sheriff!"
-In Car On Patrol-
I drove around, watching the streets of the town. The people went in and out of the shops, went in at Granny's to get her breakfast special or a cup of hot cocoa with cinnamon, and walked along the sidewalks chatting with one another. It's just a typical day in good ole StoryBrooke, Maine.
"Shit! I need to do those reports!"
I drove to the station, and my phone signaled I had a text. I picked it up, opened it, and read it.
Regina: It's Zelena! Regina is very weak and lying on my sofa. Come quick! She's on the verge of passing out!
Me: On my way!
"Shit! Shit! Shit!"
I put my light on top of my car, did a complete 180 spin, and turned on my siren. I floored it and sped down the road to go to Zelena's.
"Hold on, babe. Hang in there. I'm almost there."
-Zelena's House-
I slammed my brakes when I pulled up to the house. I parked the car, turned off the light, got out, and slammed the door. I ran up to the door and knocked.
"It's open!"
I opened the door, closed it behind me, and walked into the living room.
"Thank goodness, you made it! My magic isn't helping at all!"
I ran to the sofa, sat down, and moved her to where her head was in my lap. I placed both hands on her arms.
"I'm here, babe. You're fine."
"Emma," I looked at Zelena, and she continued, "you two are perfect together. I'm so happy you both found each other and are having a baby together. I know how the baby was conceived was not how you both wanted…"
"Zelena, it doesn't matter to me how Katherine was conceived. I'm just happy that in two months, she's going to be here, and we can't wait."
Regina started to move.
"Regina!"
"Regina, babe, talk to me!"
She opened her eyes, realizing she was lying on my lap, and Zelena still held her hand. She looked at Zelena and squeezed her hand.
"I want to try and rekindle what we had. I forgive you for tormenting me, impersonating Marion, rapping Robin in order for you to get pregnant, and rubbing it in that you could get pregnant and I couldn't. However, I won't forget it."
Zelena had tears in her eyes, bent down, and hugged Regina. Regina embraced her, and Zelena said, "You don't know how happy I am to hear that you forgive me!"
Regina smiled and said, "I know. Katherine does want Auntie Z and Cousin Robin in her life."
They both laughed, and I said, "I'm glad you two talked things through."
"Well," Regina started, smiled, and continued, "Katherine also did some persuasion on her part to help me change my mind."
Zelena's eyes widened, and questioned, "You can talk to the baby?" I nodded, and Regina clarified, "Not only do we get to talk to her, we get to see her. She summons us to a dream-like place where we talk to her as a child or as an adult. We also get to hold her when we're with her."
"That's one powerful baby! I've never heard of anything like it!"
Regina rubbed her belly and said, "Neither did I. Gold magic is new to everyone. No one has ever seen it in action or knew how it came about. We had to research. Gold is terrified of it."
"Wow! We finally know what scares the shit out of him."
We all shared a laugh, and Regina was the first one to say something.
"This is so nice that we are getting along and not at each other's throats."
I agreed, "Yeah, this is nice. I'm glad you two are reconnecting."
Zelena and I smiled at each other, and Zelena said, "I'm happy I have a sister again."
Regina took Zelena's hand and placed it on her belly. The baby moved to where Zelena's hand was. We all smiled at each other. Robin started crying, and Zelena got up.
"Get used to that sound, sis; it will be your turn in two months."
Regina and I laughed, and then I ran my fingers through her hair.
"Hey," she looked at me, and I continued, "Are you okay?"
She nodded, "I feel better now that you're here."
"Whenever you are ready to go, we can leave."
"Emma, I'm not in any shape to drive. What about my car?"
"I can use my magic to send it back to the house."
"Can we go pick out paint swatches?"
"Are you sure that you're well enough to do that?"
She turned to where she could see my face. "Yes, I feel well enough to do that."
Ding!
Regina took her phone and read the text. "Guess what's waiting at the door at home?"
My eyes widened. "Baby furniture?" She nodded, and I asked, "Can we go home?"
She laughed as Zelena walked back into the living room, holding Robin. Regina moved to where she could sit up. I got up and helped her.
"Well, Zelena, I enjoyed our visit. Emma and I have to go. We have important matters to attend to."
Zelena smiled and said, "Baby stuff, am I right?"
"Yep!" I continued, "First, it's off to get paint swatches to figure out what color to paint the baby's room, then it's to go home to bring in all the boxes of baby furniture."
"Go, enjoy it while you can before she gets here."
Regina stood up, walked over to Zelena, and kissed Robin's head. "Bye, sweetheart, Auntie Regina and Katherine love you very much."
Zelena and Regina hugged. I smiled because I'm so glad they put the past behind them and are starting fresh.
"Bye, Zelena," I walked up to her and looked into Robin's beautiful blue eyes. "Bye, kid. E will see you later, okay."
"I think Auntie Emma is trying to tell you goodbye," Zelena told little Robin, and I shook my head.
We walked toward the door, and I opened it. Regina walked out first, then me, and closed the door behind us. I waved my hand, and Regina's car disappeared.
"I can't believe you're risking your daughter's life in that yellow death trap you have!"
I laughed and said, "A death trap? How many times did we wreck in this car?"
"Zero."
"Exactly! So, it's not a death trap. Now, get in so we can go to the hardware store to find some paint."
We got into the car, closed the doors, and put on our seatbelts. I stuck the keys in the ignition, turned it, and the car roared to life. I put the car in reverse and backed out of the driveway.
-Sneezy's Hardware Store-
We walked into the store and turned to go toward the paint section. We made our way to the Valspar section of the paint colors. Regina started browsing, and I picked up every light purple swatch I could find.
"Alright, I found Watercolor Grape…"
"Oh no! Too light."
I put that one back and showed her another one. "What about Playful Petal?"
She looked at it. "Better. Hang on to that one."
"How about Purple Gala?"
"No, too purple."
"Purple Mist?"
"Hold on to that one, too."
"How about Simply Lavender?"
She looked at it and made a face. "Looks pinkish than on the purple side."
I put that one up and showed her Lilac Lane. She shook her head. "No."
I showed her Will O' the Wisp. "Maybe." I showed Whipped Plum. "Yes, hold that one."
"How about Purpling Dawn?"
"Alright, let me see," she looked at every swatch I didn't show her and said, "No to everything but Playful Petal, Purple Mist, Will O' the Wisp, Whipped Plum, Purpling Dawn, and Lavender Quartz."
I put all the swatches she didn't name back where they were and started looking at the grays.
"Emma, I will tell you now. I don't want anything dark."
I started pulling every light gray swatch I could find, and she did, too.
Regina looked at what I had and said, "I like the Summer and Cool Gray. I'm unsure about the White Sash and Mais Oui, but let's hang on to them. The rest are no."
I put all the other gray colors up, and she said, "I like what we have. Let's see if we can get samples of these."
Regina walked to the counter, and Sneezy came up to us. "Hello, Sheriff and Madam Mayor! What can I do for you?"
"I would like some samples of these paint colors, please."
He took the swatches and got started on making the samples. I picked up some paintbrushes and placed them on the counter.
"Emma, I need to lie down."
"Are you okay?"
She shook her head. "I'm very light-headed."
"Go home and get in the bed. Get your mind out of the gutter! I will be home after I pay for all this."
She laughed, shook her head, used her magic, and disappeared. Sneezy finished making all of the samples, and I paid for everything. Ding! I looked at my cellphone and saw a text from Regina.
Regina: You need to get home now! I'm bleeding!
Oh, shit! This is not good!
Me: On my way! Don't move!
I grabbed everything, ran to the car, opened it, and got in. I used my magic to transport me to the house.
